Outgoing email sending in background

For a while, when I have MAIL open, I see in the MAIL ACTIVITY box in the lower left corner, outgoing emails sending. I usually notice it while I'm composing an email (not sure if that has anything to do with it). I have looked in my SENT box when this happens but it gives no indication an email has just sent.
What is this? My computer sending updates to Apple? Spyware? A ghost in the machine?

If you have an IMAP account and you have "Store draft messages on the server" option selected, Mail will save copies of the email you are drafting to the server at regular intervals.

Sometimes deleting the account and then re-creating it can solve this issue
Write down all the information in accounts before doing this
Highlight the account on the left and click the minus button
Then click the plus button to add the new account and follow the prompts

When sending email from the Mail App or through other Apps on my iPad, my default From: address will change when I enter a To: address.  This sometimes leads me to send the email from the wrong outgoing email account.  It is frustrating and poor design, especially since I had already checked the From: address.

3rd party email addresses have to be deleted on every synmced mac product, although I have 1and1.co.uk and my imac updatetes the mails in that account from mac mail.
Yahoo etc is a 2 step deleting process but good to get your emails pushed when on the go.

  • How to use Apple Mail to send outgoing emails only?

    Hello,
I haven't been able to find exactly what I'm looking for elsewhere on the interwebs.
I want to be able to set up the Apple Mail app on my Mac to send outgoing emails only from my Gmail account. I use the Gmail website and my iPhone for sending/receiving emails and I don't want or have a need for all of my Gmail emails to be downloaded into the Apple Mail app or for new emails to appear in the Mail app as they come in.
I just want to be able to send outgoing emails from the app so that I can send photos directly from iPhoto using the Email button. Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Great news, thanks!

  • TS3276 how does one select a folder for an outgoing email, prior to sending out that email?

I would like to know what I need to do to select a folder for my outgoing emails before I send them. In other words, if I am sending a message to someone, Outlook has the option to select the folder where you would like to save the outgoing email to. That way, you are able to document all of your important outgoing emails. I was wondering if Apple mail had the same option. I know you can set rules up, the challenge is that the rules do not always apply depending on the email messages.
    Thank you for your assistance.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • On launch Mail's first outgoing email takes 3 minutes to send.

Every time I launch Mail in Snow Leopard, the very first outgoing email takes FAR too long to get out. All the following emails seem to go out normally. This happens to all Mac's on my network that have upgraded to Snow Leopard. A friend running Tiger was able to send out his first email after launch immediately. Seems to be a Snow Leopard issue. All emails are going through the same SMTP server.
Anyone else have this issue and/or suggestions?

Hi Vertical Interactive & welcome to discussions...
    Two things you can try...
1.) Use the Mailbox menu to rebuild your inbox
2.) Find the /Library/Preferences folder in your user/Home folder and then locate and delete this file:
    com.apple.mail.plist
*Caution* - deleting the plist may clear your account settings so be sure to note those first in the event you are required to reconfigure, etc.

  • In sending an email, a picture appears on my email from photo browser. I do not want any picture on outgoing emails and have no idea hoew it got there, but more importantly, have no idea how to stop it. can anybody help me?

can anybody tell me how to turn off photo browser in email? there is a picture that appears on all outgoing email that i want gone?

My instructions are specific to signatures.  If you know that it's not a signature then they won't make any difference.  Thomas A Reed has suggested another explanation.  Do you know that this picture is going out with your e-mails?  Have you seen an e-mail you sent on a recipients computer?  Try setting up a googlemail or yahoo account and send an email to it.  Does the picture arrive in the e-mail?

  • Exchange server cannot send outgoing email

We are experiencing some issue with the outgoing email , we found out that some email cannot reach our client email.
if the customer is using exchange server, it seems there is no issue.
However, if customers use other server.. like lotus or notes,,etc, there are issues.

Can you send to a Gmail or Hotmail account?
Otherwise, SMTP traffic to outside clients should not depend on any sort of password replication.
Even if the partner was using something like mutual TLS (unlikely), that has to do with certificates, not passwords.
One thing you could do is enable protocol logging on the Send Connector to see what happens when your Exchange server attempts to talk to the client's messaging system.
Bharat Suneja (MVP) wrote an excellent article on how to enable this and where to find the resulting logs:
    http://exchangepedia.com/2007/05/exchange-server-2007-logging-smtp-protocol-activity.html
Directions for 2010 and 2013 are included.
Now, reading the log can be a challenge but if you need to get to the bottom of this, you may have to make this effort.
EDIT: Of course, if you need help with that, feel free to follow up.

  • Mac Mail No Longer Sends Outgoing Email

Has Verizon changed its email settings?  My Mac Mail program suddenly quit sending out my university email from home and says the outgoing verizon server rejected the password.  However, nothing has been changed in my email program and it won't accept any password to send the outgoing email.
The online instructions provided by Verizon for Entourage indicate changing the outgoing port setting to 587.   But that does not work.
Why can't the Mac Mail program send out email through Verizon any more?

Thanks for helping.  While the university has web mail for off campus access, our IT said that off campus users (i.e., when at home) using a dedicated email client (e.g., Mac Mail) should send outgoing email through their internet service provider.  I agree, it doesn't seem right to me, but that's what they have us do.
Settings that worked previously: The incoming server is a pop account, mail.cahnrs.wsu.edu with a user name and password.  The outgoing server is outgoing.verizon.net using port 587 with user name and password.
The university email is generally [email protected]  But it could also be [email protected]
Until about two days ago, these settings were working fine, so it seems like something changed somewhere.
Thanks very much for any help you can offer.
So when you're off-campus, are you still in Washington? If so, you're in an area that's been sold to Frontier, and it's entirely possible that your email access has been converted. You can contact Tech Support if you need help setting things up and/or verifying the status of your account. I was able to find this via Google, hopefully it will help you:
    http://www.frontierhelp.com/faq.cfm?qstid=1
Basically it says your SMTP server should be smtp.frontier.com, but there's also a link-off that appears to provide walk-throughs for configuring your client.
    Hope this helps!

  • My outgoing email suddenly quit working.  Settings are correct, but says server unable to send. Can receive fine.  This happened on both Iphone

My outgoing email suddendly stopped working.  Happened first on my IPhone, msgs were stuck in outbox.  This self-corrected, and now my Mac Pro will not send email.  It says server not able to send, but I can receive fine.  No changes were made.  Settings are correct.  Any ideas what's wrong?

OK, I thought you'd like to know that I figured it out!   Yea.
I reasoned since my iphone is now sending, I would check to see if the exact same settings in the advanced mail area were the same.
The port on my phone was 110, but in advanced mail area on the mac it was 995/SSL.
I clicked on that and it defaulted to 110.
But what is strange is the 110 port is supposed to be for incoming mail (which I was getting fine even tho it had the 995 port) and the smtp outgoing I thought was a defaulted 25 port.
Anyway, when I changed the mac to the 110 port in advanced area, the mail in outbox was immediately sent.
I have absolutely no idea how the port server was changed to 995 SSL on the mac, since no one but myself uses this computer and I certainly didn't change it.  Also, it doesn't at all explain the iphone doing the exact same thing a week ago, even tho that port said 110 when I checked.  Very strange indeed, but thanks for the help anyone who is reading this and I hope this helps anyone else having a similar problem....

  • I cant send outgoing emails out of no where.

(Please update Firefox to 17.0.1 [[Update Firefox to the latest version]])
This doesn't sound like a Firefox problem, Firefox is just a web browser and doesn't have anything to do with your email. I'd try to contact your Email providers (gmail, yahoo, whomever you have) and get help there.

  • My outgoing emails are labeled as No Sender.

Have noticed a lack of response to emails over past couple weeks, and have discovered that the mails all indicate No Sender, instead of my own name.  I have no clue why my outgoing email would have No Sender.  Any assistance appreciated.

Open Mail > Preferences > Accounts
Do you see your name listed in Full Name field? If not, add your name then click out of the account to save.

  • Mail suddenly stopped sending outgoing emails!

I have 4 email accounts in Mail that just stopped sending outgoing emails yesterday without changing anything!
I have another Mac (OS X 10.6) connected to the same router, I set up one of the email addresses on that with the same details and it works perfectly.
I've noticed there are a couple of other threads on here with the same thing and they don't appear to have answers, hopefully someone knows something!
    Help, very much appreciated!
    Mark

You likely have corrupted settings for your  "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)".  Open Mail>go to Mail's Preferences>Accounts>there set up your Outgoing Mail Server which will INCLUDE resetting up your Password, as its asking you to.  Click on "SMTP Outgoing Mail Server" near the bottom of the Accounts window while your mail account is highlighted in the left hand column.  When you click on SMTP... you will see a drop down box icon offered at the right side of the line.  Click it and then select at the bottom of the the list "Edit SMTP Mail Server".  Fill in the required settings for your ISP mail account using their recommended settings.
