Outgoing failures
Hi,
I have been using JES messaging server 6.2-3.04 (built Jul 15, 2005) as our corporate email server for a while without any problem. However, I have recently started getting the following postmaster reports for a specific domain for our outgoing email messages:
Temporary error from SMTP partner: smtp;421 abc.com SMTP incoming data timeout - closing connection.
Although it says temporary, it never succeeds to send, and eventually fails.
Any idea what might have gone wrong?

From the message you provided it does indeed appear that the abc.com mail-server is timing out attempting to process the data you have provided. Assuming you haven't changed anything recently this could be due to a number of reasons including:
-> networking issues, the data is taking too long to be transferred (does this problem happen for small emails e.g. < 1KB)
-> processing issues at the other end (e.g. spamfiltering/virusfiltering at the other end takes too long).
-> changes at their end (e.g. timeout changes)
To troubleshoot this issue, you will need to get in contact with the postmaster of the other server and see if they can work out why the messages are rejected. You may also want to get a snoop of the outgoing traffic to see at just what point the rejection occurs. That may help determine where the problem lays e.g. during the data send.

I seem to have come across some sort of outgoing mail bug. I can receive mail from all my accounts but every attempt to send mail from each account ends up with "server failure" and the message is placed eternally in the "outgoing" box. I've checked all settings in Preferences and they seem correct. Any thoughts?

Philadelphia, PAIt sounds like your Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) is not set up correctly. I would suggest ypu open Mail>Preferences>Accounts>go down to the line on the lower right of the window that says "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)>click on the drop down arrows at the right end of that line, and click on the "Edit SMTP Server List..."> in the following two available windows make sure all the settings are correct as to Port, Password, Server Name, etc. as stated by your ISP. Have you already done all this?

I Cannot send outgoing email from my Samsung fascinate in Roadrunner. Out going server setting SMTP-server.cinci.rr.com;

I have seen similar questions and have been informed that the Roadrunner Outgoing server will not work on the Verizon network.
I am told that I should use the Verizon outgoing server designation. What is it? Anybodyt been here already?

It was also suggested that you turn off your Wifi on the phone and use the settings above and just use the 3G. I have found that it has conflicts with my home system and RR -
I have a Toshiba Satellite A105-S4384 that has for some reason lost its ability to send via SMTP. I can receive mail but can't reply or generate a new email to send. I use Thunderbird. I did a total reinstall of the installation disks to no avail. I ran the diagnostics that toshiba supplys and did get a message that the modem failed.
Can someone tell me what to do next. I have the diagnostics file if it will help.

What ISP are you using, is it AOL? If so, are there more than one account setup for Thunderbird to handle? If you have multiple accounts then you have to assign a specific 'smtp' for Thunderbird to handle In/outgoing mails.
But since you can receive e-mails, that's unlikely the case and this can be the culprit....
Try this:
Open Thunderbird>Tools>Account Settings>Copies & Folders (under your account name, or each account name)
On the right pane: uncheck "Place a copy in"
You have to do this for all accounts to send mail.

Can't send email using Apple Mail. I've set up dozens of accounts so I know my settings are correct. Within a few seconds of sending a message the "Can't connect to the outgoing server" box pops up on the screen.
Could this be a corrupted file? Which one?

Thank you. I have checked and they all appear to be mapped correctly although I do notice whilst that the account information email address box shows both the .mac and the .me version when I go to 'edit SMTP' list it doesn't show the .mac server as being in use by my .mac account (it doesn't show any account). The .me version has in use by my account. Could this be part of the problem and if so what should I try doing. Thanks for you help by the way.

Connection to outgoing server failure
I have an iPhone and iPad and use my wifi in my house to check and send emails from both. Both are set the same to sync with my email settings on my PC. I can send and receive emails on the phone, but while I can receive emails on the iPad, I can't send emails. I keep getting a message that it could not connect with the outgoing mail server. However, the settings for the outgoing servers on the phone are exactly the same as the iPad. This is a new problem that just started; in the past I've been able to send emails on the iPad. Any ideas how to fix this? I assume something needs to be reset, but I've reset everything I can think of.
This seems to have worked for me.
Go to your iPhone Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Add Account>Other>Add Mail Account.
Type in your name, your usual Gmail email address, your password and description ( if needed ).

I was able to send out emails after this. looks like the "simple" way to add a Gmail account is not working properly - had to fully enter incoming / outgoing servers.

From the 12th July BT has taken over its mail business from Yahoo and now has mail.btinternet.com as both incoming and outgoing (SMTP) addresses. These work on my iPad but Mail cannot be sent using these settings on my iMac (10.6.8). I've talked to BT and they talk about recent outages, but as all is well on the iPad this can't be it. Help!
Thank you Rudegar, but could you explain a bit (for a layman). By the way, I can send mail using the BT settings on my Mac G4 PPC using 10.5.8. Is there anyone using an Intel Mac who has BT as ISP who can send mail? It would be useful to know.

Intermittent outgoing signal failure with Bluetooth
Now and then, randomly, the person I'm calling using Bluetooth can't hear me, though I can hear him/her. This occurs using both a Motorola headset and my Ford Sync system, so the problem seems to be with the phone's Bluetooth. It isn't predictable; it may work fine for one call, then exhibit the problem with the very next - same call conditions, nothing changed, phone in the same place. The phone in question is an iPhone 5, with the latest software installed. The problem also happened with the iPhone 4 I had previous to this one, with about the same degree of randomness, so it probably isn't associated with anyting unique to the 5. Anyone else seeing this, or have a solution?
Alright, just got to know from the user communities that this is a common problem across many users and for some, this got rectified by getting the phone replaced.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

We are configuring the CIN Settings for our client and at the time of testing, while saving the Out going excise invoice the system is giving the error as “Balance in Transaction Error” and when pressed enter the system displays the error as “ system failure during locking GL account 5555 by 13113910.”
We have configured Out going excise duty condition types in the SD pricing procedure
and
also maintained the same condition types as mentioned below in the path IMG / LOGISTICS GENERAL / TAX ON GOODS MOVEMENT / INDIA / BASIC SETTINGS/ DETERMINATION OF EXCISE DUTY / MAINTAIN EXCISE DEFAULTS
under the headings
AR BED Cond – JEXP
AR Cess Cond – JECS
ECS AR – JHEC
And also maintained the settings in the Path IMG / LOGISTICS GENERAL / TAX ON GOODS MOVEMENT / INDIA / SPECIFY EXCISE ACCOUNTS PER EXCISE TRANSACTION and also in SPECIFY G/L ACCOUNTS PER EXCISE TRANSACTION .
But still the above mentioned error is comming.
Note : error in not coming when I am removing the JHEC condition type from the path IMG / LOGISTICS GENERAL / TAX ON GOODS MOVEMENT / INDIA / BASIC SETTINGS/ DETERMINATION OF EXCISE DUTY / under the heading ECR AR, But we need the JHEC(ie. Higher education cess) also in out going excise invoice.
Please let me know what is the issue and how to resolve it.

For this kind of error firstly Check have you activated the Liable for AT1 indicator in(IMG>>Log.General>>Tax on goods Movement>>India>>Basic Settings>>Maintain Excise registrations)
Also Have you assigned Proper GL account in (IMG>>Log.General>>Tax on Good Movement>>>India>>>Account Determination>>Account determination per Excise transaction type.

Mail does not use correct outgoing server
Problem
Mail in Mavericks (and also IOS6 snf 7) does not use the outgoing smtp server associated with the account being used. This results in either a failure to send or mail being put into the wrong "Sent" folder.
Background
I have most of my non-icloud mail pulled down to a home server from which my laptops and ios devices access various accounts using imap. The local home server also provides smtp and relays all mail to my ISP. Recently I have been switching from an old home server (Mac Mini) to a new one (Raspberry pi running the debian Raspbian version with fetchmail, Dovecot and postfix setup).
While making the changeover I had access to both the old server and the new server enabled on my laptop. Naturally the majority of the settings (Name, email address etc) were the same although the name and address of the server to be used for both incoming and outgoing mail were different. This seemed tp work fine for incoming. However when I tested outgoing mail the copy that should appear in the "sentt" box went missing. This usually indicates some mistake in the setting of the sent mail folder on the accounts but this all checked out.
I eventually found the missing outgoing mail intended to go through the new server in the sent box on the old server. Further trials showed that no matter what I did the outgoing would always default to the old (and therefore first set up) outgoing server.
Deleting the old account and the old outgoing server of course should cure the problem and will eventually be the solution for me when I kill the old server. But i wanted to get to the bottom of the problem in case it reappeared in other contexts. Checking the "use only this server" box produced failure to send rather than the correct result.
Trialing various alterntaive settings showed that the problem occurs when there are two outgoing servers with the email address in the settings and the user name on the outgoing server name being the same. I had assumed that changing the description field would distinguish between the various settings; however this did not work. Changing the Name Field did work eg by putting (O) after my name.
It appears therefore that mail selects the outgoing server on the basis of email address (with the full name included) and user name (trrespective of the actual server or the Description that shows in the smtp server listing. In some ways this is logical but it produces problems in the context I have described and would also be a difficulty if you wanted to use an alternative server when in a different location.
I have trawled support and elsewhere for any thing similar. Lots of mail problems (don't get me started on the way icloud loses outgoing each time you edit the list!) but I have not found any posts on precisiely this point.
IOS devices seem to have similar problems, but a quick attempt at a similar solution does not work, and I cannot be bothered to test the options. I will simply clean them out and put in the new accounts.
Advice
Grateful for any comments or advice from people who have encountered similar problems and whether my diagnosis if correct. Have I missed any obvious corrections that would clear this up. I do not know whether this is a Mavericks issue or also appears in earlier OSX versions.

Where ever the Sent and Trash folders show in the Sidebar, highlight first one, and then the other, followed by clicking on Mailbox in the Menubar, and choosing Use This Mailbox For, and choose the function.

Firstly is this a UC-500 based CME? I am not aware of a 8.5 version for the UC-500 unless this is a pre-production release, as far as I am aware the UC-500 is only supported up to 8.1 at this stage.
It would also be good if you could provide a copy of your running configuration (With sensitive data removed like usernames and or passwords and peoples names and numbers), this will help us in understanding the system configuration.
It also seems that the system has not been configured with CCA as there are no identifying markers in the configuration you posted that would indicated this was a CCA build, which leads me to think that this is a CLI build right??
I am personally not very ofay with the Portugal carrier setup so I best not post up a configuration of what the Voice-Port looks like as it might not be compatible with your local carrier, but I am curious as to why your FXO ports start at 0/0/0 typically on a UC-500 system they would start at 0/1/0 as the first 4 voice ports are normally reserved for FXS (Unless of course this is different for your region), which again makes me wonder if this is a UC-500 system or maybe an ISR (2800 series or above)??
Please post up your configuration it will help out a tremendious amount.

Intermittent send failures in Outlook 2011 for MAC
Ever since Verizon changed its POP server settings, I am getting intermittent send failures from MS Outlook for MAC 2011 even though I made the correct port changes and SSL options in Outlook 2011. Everywhere I look for assistance, including Microsoft, Apple and Verizon, no one has found anything wrong other than Microsoft suspects that Verizon's server doesn't like too many logins and passwords in a set period of time. Apparently, every email that is sent, sends a User Name and Password to Verizon's server. MS suspects that the server doesn't like that and rejects messages within a certain time period. Furthermore, I cannot find any Verizon support for Outlook 2011 for the MAC! Once again this is "intermittent" such as 4 messages will go and then the 5th will not. If I leave it in the outbox, it will eventually send. I'm not sure that MS's theory is fully correct because sometimes I get the send failures on the first message sent. The error message says, "Outlook cannot find the server etc." "Error Code: 3170". All incoming messages come into Outlook 2011 correctly. Does Verizon support Outlook 2011 for the MAC?

I had the same issue. After talking to a Verizon FIOS technician from thier techinical support center, he said that no changes are needed for Outlook for Mac. That means the settings should be:
Incoming server: incoming.verizon.net
Incoming port: 110
Use SSL to connect: UNCHECKED
Outgoing server: outgoing.verizon.net
Outgoing port: 25
Use SSL to connect: UNCHECKED
Hope that helps others not waste an hour searching Verizon's website and trying to navigate their massive phone tree to actually speak to a technician. -

We seem to be having a problem with some users who are attempting to send e-mails from within the organisation to an external domain. Not all users are affected, and not all outgoing e-mails have this issue.
Some e-mails get stuck in the submission queue. This is the error message in Last Error : "A storage transient failure has occurred during content conversion."
Days later, the internal user who send the message gets a #550 4.4.7 QUEUE.Expired; message expired ## NDR.
We did have some initial configuration issues, but these were fixed more than a week ago :
- The external FQDN during EHLO was set to the wrong address, now pointing to the correct one.
- SPF record was updated with new IP adress.
Here is some additional information on the issue :
- Not on any blacklists - checked using dnsbl.info
- Telnet to remote servers works from exchange server, connections are accepted and can send mail.
- Outbound SMTP test ran using Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyser : Passed with both External (Static) and Smarthost IP.
- This seems to happen only with emails that have an attachment and that are transfered, but only for the affected users.
- If content from these e-mails is manually copied over to a new email, email is sent to destination without problem.
Configuration information :
- Exchange 2013 running on Windows 2012 Datacenter with all latest updates.
- Outgoing e-mail is sent via smarthost. Only one outbound transport rule is active.
- Using internal DNS server.
- There is only one mailbox database.

Within your organization I'm prety sure that messages will use TNEF.
What does the message contain at the external recipient's side?

Have you tried UNsetting TNEF on the remote domain?

That should leave it up to the client to determine the format. It's
probably not what you're after, but see it makes a difference in the

I've read some related issues about this on the forums, but I haven't found any helpful solutions.
I am a FiOS customer, but I already have email service set up with other providers, and have no interest in changing my e-mail address(s). In general this works fine.
Recently however I have found that some receipients, who use spamhaus, are blocking my messages - apparantly because Verizon said that the only way their clients are allowed to send e-mail is through their servers. The bounce looked something like this (personally identifying information, etc. edited):

When reading the information at Spamhaus, I said OK, sounds like I need to use a verizon.net server. So I set my outgoing server to outgoing.verizon.net, with appropriate credentials (I do have a verizon.net e-mail address, I just don't use it). This seemed to work, but today when sending to the same recipient, I got the following bounce:

Now first of all, I find it unacceptable that I need to use Verizon's outgoing mail servers rather than the provider of my choice. This means that if I have someone over who wants to connect their laptop to our network to send e-mail, they have to reconfigure their e-mail, and I have to give them my credentials, or else create an account for them on verizon.net. That's just bizzare!
But now it seems that Verizon is also not even keeping its own data straight with spamhaus!
Can anyone shed any light on this? Is there anything I can do to resolve these problems?
Thank you all!You don't need to change your INCOMING email address however you do need to change your outgoing email server address to be the Verizon server. If you don't do this your email may be refused and treated as spam because it will appear that you are using "relaying" to send mail from fake accounts.
You now appear to have hit the other problem that sometimes occurs. It seems that at some point in the past the dhcp address you recived from verizon was blacklisted for something and spamhaus is now rejecting the email. The simple answer to this is to reboot your verizon router to get a new address. You could then report the blacklisted address to Verizon who might fight the adress issue with spamhaus or you could di it yourself. Think I had this occur 3 times in the 5 years I had Verizon dsl on a pppoe connection which delivers dhcp address changes many more times than FiOS does.
