Outgoing mail does not send embedded images

When I send an embedded image the recipient only receives the text. The Image is stripped from the email. There are NO blank boxes with an x in it.

Sounds like your sending text.

  • Outgoing mail does not send, times out

I have two macs, one wireless and the other connected by ethernet to the internet both through a DSL modem. There are two users, each has an account on each mac. Each user has a yahoo plus mail account. I have been using Tiger and OS X mail without trouble since last year. Mail is setup to work with the Yahoo server as a POP server. The arrangement is nice since all mail stays on the server and is accessible from any internet site anywhere. In addition, there is the tight integration with OSX from Mail.
Recently one user could not send from the wireless mac. The other user could. Reading mail was OK. Performance on the ethernet mac was OK. Creating a new user and directing that user to the POP account allowed sending.
I tried alot of things as sugggested in some of the other topics here, including the drastic move of deleting the mail folder in the affected user's library and setting up a new account.
It turned out the problem was fixed by re specifying the outgoing mail server in the mail preferences. The server was incorrectly specified as smpt.mail.yahoo.com. The correct specification is smtp....
I had presumed I had made the dyslexic typo error when re establishing the account info on the affected mac.
However, about a week later, the other user account on the other mac behaved the same way. In fact, the outgoing server specification had the same error of smpt...
Once changing back to smtp... all was well, even with reboots and the other users logged off. The fix was simply to add the correct outgoing server URL, select it as the one to use and delete the incorrect one.
Explanation? I can think of two possiblities:
1)the error was always present in these two Mail account specifications on just those macs and the service that interprets the URL allowed it, but changed recently so it would not accomodate the error.
2)something changed the URL, but I can't think of how I could possibly have done it in the second instance. Is there anyway some kind of virus would cause this trouble?
So, I offer this tale in case someone else is experiencing the same difficulty. Judging from some of the other threads in the forum this may be a help.

It could not have been caused by a virus, since there are no viruses for Mac OS X. I would guess it was a typo when you first setup the account, and when you set it up again, a user may have gone to Preferences and selected the Outgoing mail server drop down menu and inadvertently selected the typo'd server entry.

  • Mail does not send email

My problem is simply that Mail does not send email.
I have just migrated from iMac G5 to iMac Intel by using Migration Assistant. Everything else works just fine and I can receive email. However, if I try to reply, forward or send a new email message, Mail just does not do anything - no error message, nothing.
The fixes I have tried so far are removing the Mail plist file, repairing disk permissions and mailboxes. Of course, I have checked the account settings, especially outgoing server settings. I also reinstalled Mail application with Pacifist. None of this has solved the problem. I have tried sending email with Thunderbird and it works with no problems.
Does anybody have any suggestions how to fix this issue?
The OS is 10.4.8, Mail Version 2.0.6 (749.2/752.3), all the suggested software updates done.
    iMac Core Duo 20" 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Reinstalling Mail is rarely necessary or appropriate to solve a problem. It certainly cannot fix anything that could be wrong within your home folder or at the server or with the network, and may even introduce new issues if not done properly. Moreover, in Mac OS X 10.4 you don’t need Pacifist to reinstall Mail, you could also do it as described in the following article:
Custom installs in Mac OS X 10.4
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, if the version of the system software on your install disks is earlier than what you’re using now (and only in that case), then you must also reinstall the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you’re using, to bring Mail back in sync with the rest of the system:
About the Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update
Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update for PPC
Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update for Intel
The above won’t solve the problem. It’s just to ensure that you’ve properly reinstalled Mail, which you shouldn’t have done, and which apparently you didn’t do properly -- the version of Mail on your system should be 2.1.1, not 2.0.6.
The original problem could be caused by some Launch Services cache or preferences corruption. The following article describes how to manually reset Launch Services -- the notes at the bottom of the article also provide information about the side effects of deleting each of the files involved:
    Resetting Launch Services
If you prefer using a cache cleaning utility instead of following the manual procedure described in the previous article, this other article provides links to some utilities that can be used for troubleshooting and cache cleaning:
Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption
It seems that the most appropriate utility for solving this particular problem is Tiger Cache Cleaner, but you may also want to consider other utilities, such as OnyX, or Cache Out X, which are free. Whatever utility you choose, be sure to read this first:
Side effects of System cache cleaning
As an example, this is how you should proceed with OnyX:
    1. Quit all applications.
    2. Launch OnyX and enter your administrator password.
    3. Click Maintenance. In the Reset section, check LaunchServices database.
    4. You may uncheck any other pre-checked options if you wish.
    5. Click the Execute button.
    6. Restart the computer.

  • Mail 6.0 does not display embedded images

This was true in the prior version as well, but now I'm about to give up on the product.
While HTML emails do display images ("Display remote images in HTML messages" is checked in preferences), those with embedded images do not.  Instead, I get a series of attachments, which I can go through with QuickLook (but alphabetically by filename, not in the order in which they're embedded in the email).
This can't be how it's supposed to work.
FWIW, the emails do display properly in other mail clients.
    All suggestions much appreciated.

I was beginning to think I was the only one having this problem. I can view animated GIF's in my Verizon Yahoo account with Safari but not in Mail 3.0. Can also view it in my .mac account only if I go on the web to view my mail. Cannot view them in my .mac. account with Mail. All my settings are correct also. It sounds like there is something buggy with Mail 3.0. Mail 2.x worked fine with animated GIF's with me.

My iCloud mail is now working after my doing nothing. • Work mail does not send (receiving no problem)

In Apple mail, my e-mail address from work does no longer send e-mails (although receiving is not a problem).
Up until a few weeks ago everything worked fine but something must have gone wrong in the settings I suppose. Logging in to the browserversion works fine, so the username and password are correct. This is what the connection doctor states:
The problem appears to be that the outgoing mail server is offline. Any clues on what the problem might be? Many thanks in advance.

Ok it was solved by changing the outgoing port after contacting my mailprovider.

  • Outgoing mail server not sending mail?

Out of nowhere, my iPhone 5 stopped sending mail. It recieves fine but won't send. I did a hard reboot and also shut it off and on again and nothing has worked.
I tried creating a new acct. and that would not work either. Any idea's on how to fix this issue? Thanks!

Please check your outgoing mail folder to see if you have an email stuck in outgoing mail. This will definately stop outgoing mail.
    Good luck

  • Mail does not send when several accounts active

    Hi,
Finally I got Tiger, as I had to have Google Earth for Mac (another story anyway) that only runs on Tiger.
Of course several things stopped working like PHP local, Postfix, and so on. These were remedied (but the new .conf files had a strange date, well, again, another story).
Now I am a bit stuck on the following problem :
I cannot anymore sent mail when I have several mail accounts configured. (I can when there is only one).
At first I thought it was SpamSieve, but it seems not, as I have removed it (it does not run and the plugin is gone). Then I rechecked my Postfix cf files, but they're ok and I send mail from localhost when using Thunderbird where several accounts are set up.
It does not matter whether I use localhost or any of the smtp servers I can use, and when beginning a new message, I cannot use the popup which lets me choose an originating account. Neither can I write anything in the message content box.
Of course I checked everything in the Preferences dialogs.
    Well, well. Any hints ?

It turns out I cannot eliminate Spamsieve as a possible culprit.
I have erased all accounts (rm /Users/myUID/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist) and SpamSieve plugin (rm -r /Users/myUID/Library/Mail/Bundles/Spamsieve*)
Then I reconstructed 5 accounts using the wizard (File->Add account) rather than reimporting from a saved plist or building from the prefs panel (seems that does not work and using the wizard at least to name the accounts is required).
Then I test the send button and it works on all accounts.
Then I reinstall SpamSieve which breaks sending mail on all accounts.
I am back with operational accounts and no SpamSieve.
I cannot explain this, I just observe.
Any idea ? Anyone made similar observations ?
I'd like to put SpamSieve back on, it is efficient.
Note : perms are fixed, caches lean, periodic tasks have run.

  • OS X Mavericks - Update 10.9.2 Mail does not send png files

I updated my macbook pro on Saturday with the 10.9.2 OS X Mavericks update and since then I cannot send a .png file (screenshots etc) by mail, it is not recognized and to the recipient it just arrives like a tone of characters.
Is there any way I can fix that as I really use mail a lot to send files like that. I even saved the .png file as jpg and still does not recognize it. Actual photos I had on my computer were sent fine.

    Hi Katering,
This week, I had the same problem.
I don't know if is the solution... so, i put the name extension to "on" and my .png file are recognize with hotmail...
    Do this with your mac:
From the Mac OS X Desktop, pull down the “Finder” menu and choose “Finder Preferences”
Click on the “Advanced” tab (gear icon)
Check the box next to “Show all filename extensions”

  • Mail does not send unless I close out and reopen it.

Usually if I do not close out of an email session, when I go to check my messages later my mailboxes show a "!" symbol, indicating there is an issue; additionally, messages that I am trying to send do not go.  Once I close out and sign back in I am able to receive and send messages with no problem.
This is only on an issue when I am using the mail function on my iMac - not when I am checking from other computers; and
This is not a password problem.  The only thing I need to do to receive messages is close and reopen the application - once I do that, messages are received (and sent) without problems.
I don't recall if I have this issue when checking mail from me.com on my home computer or others, as I rarely check messages from there.
I have an iMac 7.1 with OS 10.6.8 (not 10.4.11 as mistakenly checked off below).  This has been happening for several weeks, if not months, but since closing out and getting back into Mail was not a problem I haven't reported the issue until now.  Thank you very much for any assistance you can provide.

As a follow up, I've discovered that this is happening in IE on the same websites. When I log into a different computer and test the same scenarios, the cookies do not disappear. It seems to be a problem on my computer. However, if anyone knows how to fix this, I'd be glad to hear it.

  • Mail does not send out mail / builds loads of drafts of the same message

The problem described above I had for quite a while. Mail I send disappeared and I could find them back in the outbox under prefs/mail/outbox the outbox in mail.app was empty. Having to check your send items every time you have sen out an email is not an option :P
This made me follow a tip I found here to delete mail folder and the .plist files restart my MBP and reopen mail and let everything be restored from me.com
Unfortunately after a week problems are reoccurring.

No Mobile me works fine. And with fine I mean the problems with Mail.app are related to mobile me or leopard.
With leopard; mail got to do and task witch are only half implemented, adding a note to a task can only be done in calender.
Mobile me; sins the change of .mac to me I have been having issues
Unfortunately leopart and then especially mail and mobile me are both buggy.
Hope this will be addressed and throughout tested with a next update.

You can do that, but you should know another SMTP server to put in there, that works independently from wherever you find yourself in the world.
