Outgoing mail failure

I seem to have come across some sort of outgoing mail bug.  I can receive mail from all my accounts but every attempt to send mail from each account ends up with "server failure" and the message is placed eternally in the "outgoing" box.  I've checked all settings in Preferences and they seem correct.  Any thoughts?
thanks

It sounds like your Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) is not set up correctly.  I would suggest ypu open Mail>Preferences>Accounts>go down to the line on the lower right of the window that says "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)>click on the drop down arrows at the right end of that line, and click on the "Edit SMTP Server List..."> in the following two available windows make sure all the settings are correct as to Port, Password, Server Name, etc. as stated by your ISP.  Have you already done all this?

  • BT outgoing Mail failure

From the 12th July BT has taken over its mail business from Yahoo and now has mail.btinternet.com as both incoming and outgoing (SMTP) addresses. These work on my iPad but Mail cannot be sent using these settings on my iMac (10.6.8). I've talked to BT and they talk about recent outages, but as all is well on the iPad this can't be it. Help!

Thank you Rudegar, but could you explain a bit (for a layman). By the way, I can send mail using the BT settings on my Mac G4 PPC using 10.5.8. Is there anyone using an Intel Mac who has BT as ISP who can send mail? It would be useful to know.

  • Yahoo outgoing mail server not working.

My yahoo outgoing server not working on iPod touch or iPad it says apple.smtp.yahoo failed...incoming is ok so far...this outgoing mail failure just started about a couple of days back....anyone else having this problem?????what should I do?rediffmail account does not get set up either so just unable to use any of my emails. :(

Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.
I get 100% success pinging mail.adelphia.net, and if at your home venue where Adelphia is your ISP, then I think no separate Authentication is required. Port 25 would be the proper port. However, if you are not at home, and the provider of internet connection limits you to using only authenticated SMTP then you would not able to use mail.adelphia.net as the Outgoing Server.
Are you at the venue where Adelphia is the ISP?

  • Outgoing mail progress...

This has probably been covered elsewhere, but when I search the forum, the results page just hangs. Anyway, I just now have switched to Tiger and have so far been somewhat disappointed with the display issues in Mail [i.e. hard edge looks, mailboxes must be on left, etc.] but it drives me crazy that there doesn't seem to be an outgoing progress wheel or bar any longer. For incoming mail there is a wheel, very unobtrusively, next to the specific mailbox the mail is going into, but not the same for outgoing mail. Am I missing something? A preference?
    Thanks,
    JM
EDIT: sorry forgot to change signature OS

    Hello JM,
Same failure. Except when I sent a large mail to myself (8 mb) and during the sending type "apple-0" (zero) the activity-window appears. In percentage you can see the progress. At some point, no telling when, suddenly the "outgoing-icon" appears in the left drawer! It remains there untill I shut down and re-open Mail. Looks to me like a software glitch! This does not happen in previous versions of Mail an OS's.
Would like to hear from you if you have the same experience with the above mentioned method. I use Mail 2.0.7 (Dutch).

  • Changing Location and Outgoing mail server

When I change Location, I need to change the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) (my ISP blocks mail traffic). Is there a way to make the smtp server different for each Location you have defined? Right now, I have to manually switch the Mail.app preferences each time I connect to a new Location, or wait for Mail.app to try to send the mail at which point it puts up a failure dialog where I can change the outgoing server for that message.
    thanks.

It would be nice to define an SMTP server for each account depending on the ISP being used for connecting to the internet and even better, the computer determining the ISP being used for connecting to the internet and automatically making the appropriate SMTP server change for each account but computers aren't quite there or that smart yet.
There is a collection of AppleScripts called Mail Scripts you can download at this link.
    http://homepage.mac.com/aamann/Mail_Scripts.html
The script to use from the collection of scripts is Change SMTP Server (Mail) which provides for switching between different already defined SMTP servers or define a new one. This is especially useful if you are using your computer in more than one location and have to switch servers for several accounts at once.
At least this script makes it a little easier.

  • E71 Outgoing Mail Problem

Everything was working fine until upgrading the Nokia Messaging service a couple of months ago, I can no longer send email or reply to incoming email using the Nokia Messaging service - they all bounce back with a failure notice and the numbers "500". Incoming emails work fine.
I can send email using the standard email setup on the phone. Have uploaded latest firmware and reloaded everything today - no change.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hello,
I too was experiencing the exact same issue you are describing.  Not sure what's causing the problem, but It's a rather easy fix.  Try these steps:
    1. Log into your Nokia Messaging account on email.nokia.com.
    2. Click on "Edit Setttings" next to the affected email account.
    3. Click on "Change server settings".
    4. Remove the data from the "Outgoing mail server", "Outgoing server port" and disable the SSL setting if it's currently enabled.
    5. Click on "Save changes".
    6. Send an email from the affected email account via Nokia Messaging and you should be good to go now.
    Hope this helps.

  • Outgoing Mail Settings Not Showing

    Hello,
I recently purchased an iPhone 4s, and had a little trouble sending e-mail from it (Hotmail). I had the settings good to go, and was able to send/receive e-mail from my Hotmail account, but then last night I got the Delivery Failure notification when I tried to send an e-mail. No problem, I'll just check the outgoing mail settings to make sure everything is set correctly, but they're not there?? I go to Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>My Hotmail Account>Account, and it doesnt show the Outgoing or Incoming Mail settings. It only has my e-mail, password, description, and below that the S/MIME on/off setting. I cant find anything on where the settings went. Am I going crazy or does anyone know what's going on?

Update: I called in to Apple Support and they advised me to set up another e-mail account on the phone. I did this (gmail) and everything is fine. It appears to be an issue with Hotmail and iOS playing well together. I've seen this around the internet as well, but haven't come across a case where the Outgoing mail settings just disappeared.

  • My MacBook pro has stopped connecting to the outgoing mail server smpt (Tiscali) server, still receives mail fine, and connects to the web. Any suggestions welcome.

My MacbookPro has always worked fine, receiving and sending emails through my server,Tiscali.  I took it to France for a few days, and was able to receive emails and use the web (through the wireless router and server in our accomodation), although as usual when away from home, I couldn't send emails. I tried to set up a new outgoing email route using O2 (as suggested by a web article), but it didn't work, so I deleted it, and used Tiscali webmail to send emails.
When I returned home, I selected my usual outgoing server (Tiscali), but found to my great surprise, that I could no longer send emails - Mail timed out, 'unable to connect'. I noticed when clicking on: Mail - Preferences, that in the outgoing mail smpt box, Tiscali appeared, as usual, but now was followed by (Offline)
Receiving emails and web connections have remained fine.
I've checked with Tiscali, and they can't find any problem with their server or my settings.  Grateful for any suggestions about possible causes for this problem, and how to fix it.
    Joe

I have just tried attaching the ethernet cable to the MacBook to see what happens. The system is fine, but when starting Mail, it never opens and locks up. You eventually just have to force quit out of the program.

  • Since 10.5.6 outgoing mail slow ??

Since moving to 10.5.6 my outgoing mail is slower.
Previously if I sent just a simple email with just a few lines of text it would go instantly.
Now the same type of message seems to take anywhere up to 20 secs to go and during that time I get the spinning graphic next to the out folder or sent folder.
Not the spinning beach ball of death, just the normal spinning graphic which I expect to get when sending an email with a large attachment or lots of graphics.
Has anyone else noticed this ?

I am quite certain that I had the sound effects check box in system preferences activated prior to the 10.5.6 upgrade as I had the empty trash sounds activated. After the upgrade, something during the install process unselected this check box in system preferences because I noticed I had lost the internal Mail sounds as well as the sound for emptying the trash. When I checked preferences in Mail the check box for "play sounds in mail" was still checked but there were no more sounds. It seems odd to me that you now have to go to two different places to turn on the sound feature in Mail whereas before it was only one checkbox. How is it fixing a bug by requiring two steps instead of one? Minor point, but it is rather confusing and convoluted.

  • Outgoing mail server setup

    Hello everyone,
I am having problems with setting up the e-mail response.
How do you authenticate the smtp server from FCS?
In the outgoing mail server, I put "smtp.broadband.myISPprovider.com" - string I got from them. There is nowhere in FCS to put user name and password for authentication.
The e-mail response does not even show in the "View All jobs" window like every other response.
I tried every flavor of the string, including the port :587 , my e-mail address and such with no luck.
    What am I missing?
    If anyone could help, please.
    Thanks
    Radek

    Thanks Simon,
I've just spoken to Apple and sure enough, the outgoing mail needs to go through an open relay server for it to work. Well..., open relay servers are getting blacklisted by most ISPs because of all the spam. I also spoke to my ISP and they do not offer any open relay so I'm stuck. I don't want to leave our system vulnerable by going through some shady open mail server. Apple needs to figure out how to make the authentication possible from FCS.
    Thanks again
    Radek

  • Can I set my iCloud email as the outgoing mail server for my google apps email account in Mac Mail?

I have a google apps email account from an old client, all my work emails have been going to it for years. As I'm no longer affiliated with this client I'd like to make a transition to using my iCloud account for work. I asked people to use my iCloud address but as they've been using my google apps address for years it's what automatically comes up when they type my name.
I figure the easiest way to make a transition is if I reply to all the emails that arrive at my old address from my iCloud address and gradually they will start using my new address without realising it. But I can't find a simple way to do this.
In Mac Mail preferences > accounts > Google IMAP (my old account name) > Account information > Outgoing Mail server (SMTP) I'd like to set my iCloud SMTP server. But although my iCloud account uses its own outgoing mail server for its own account , it is not in the server list when I select my google account. I've tried to add it to the server list as smtp.mail.me.com but it caused my whole iCloud account to give me error messages until I force quit Mail...
    Any ideas?

In iCloud/Mail, have you tried going to Preferences (select with gear at lower left)/Composing and setting a Send from address there?

  • How do I change my password on the outgoing mail server?

Getting a "Cannot Send Mail.  The user name or password for "SMTP:[email protected]@smtp.aol.com" is incorrect" and I can not send any mail messages.  The Outgoing mail server data is greyed out so I can not make changes.  What do I do?

If you cannot access the SMTP server that way, then you need to remove the account from the phone and add it back again from scratch.

  • SSRS Subscription LastStatus "Failure sending mail: Failure sending mail."

    SSRS 2012, SQL 2012 SP2.
We have about 50 different daily subscriptions that go out.  In the last month or so, probably over 30% of SSRS subscriptions are getting this error and no e-mail is sent.  I have tested out the reports with the parameters and the reports run just
fine on demand for both the user and myself.  I'll change the subscription forward for testing, and it will intermittently work or fail even when no traffic is hitting our database so I dont think it's a matter of performance.
I see nothing in the error logs, and I see nothing in the logtable 2, or 3 in ssrs as suggested by a few MSDB sites.
The only spot I can even see this error, is when viewing the subscription. I have done LOTS of searching, and most people get a helpful error after "Failure sending mail" where as I only get 'Failure sending mail: Failure sending mail"
