Outgoing mail not sending

For 2 days I am getting a message that states Recipient email is not recognized and the mail then goes to the outbox. I have checked my settings and reset the phone and mail still won't send. I recently updated to the newest version of the iPhone software if that matters.

Who is the email account provider for the account?
Have you tried deleting and recreating the account on your iPhone?

The outgoing email on my IMAC is not working - unable to send - my ISP has confirmed the settings are correct - incoming emails working properly.

    Hi Scanners67,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you're not able to send email from your ISPs mail server on your iMac.
There could be several causes of the behavior. I would start with the troubleshooting steps in the "Mail Connection Doctor shows one or more red dots in the account Status column" section of this article:
OS X Mail: Troubleshooting sending and receiving email messages
This article contains a variety of steps that can help resolve an issue like the one you're seeing.
    All the best,

  • 10.9.3: Not able to log onto other networks than mine at home and Go Daddy outgoing mail not sending (smtp)

A week ago my go daddy email stopped working as it would receive but not send. It's an imap account and hence it would not connect to the smtp server when attemting to send. Incoming imap server works well. When trying to use a network outside my home, I discovered that I cannot log into other networks than my own any longer. Email and wifi on my phone works all fine. I have been on the phone with Apple and Go Daddy for 3 hours altogher, tried different solutions such as deleting anti virus software, deleting and resetting email account, tried different port versions etc to no avail. Since I can still not log on to other networks, I am suspecting it be an operating system error? Has anyone experienced a similar problem or has a possible solution please?

    Thanks. here it is:

  • Outgoing mail not sending. Anyone tell me what settings should be?

Can recieve mail fine. Have tried to delete account & start from scratch but every time i open mail again its there.
So i need the correct settings or any advise how to sort it

Kappy's right - it's not a case of just helping your mates.
Spelling out the problem is everything - if I'd come across your message earlier without knowing it was a mobile.me problem I'd have pointed you to a general answer I've posted on a couple of threads about email not sending. But it may not have helped you, as it's aimed at landline based ISPs.
Kappy's right about having patience too - if you wait you'll get all the answers you need - there's a thread on here about not being able to send emails that has been running for 18 months and has 370 posts! I guess it just depends who feels like logging on and trouble shooting for someone else.
And don't tar yourself with the 'dummy' brush - Macs are sooooo sophisticated that no-one knows it all (I've been using Macs for nearly 20 years and the tricks they have stored away still amaze me!). And you found your own way to the solution and shared it - seems pretty smart to me.

  • Since moving to iCloud my mail not sending attachments any answers?

    Hi
Since moving to iCloud my mail not sending attachments any answers?

After the migration I started having problems with all NON Apple things.
Now, as of July, 6th this is my situation:
Lion devices and iOS5 devices (MacBook, MacPro, iPhone 4s and iPad I) - fine
have a look here for info:
AUTOMATIC SETUP FOR APPLE MAIL ON LION MACS
    http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/mac.html
Snow Leopard - set up after some trouble using these instructions:
OLDER SERVER FOR APPLE MAIL ON PRE OS 10.7 MACS

Non Apple clients should work with these instructions but I still cannot get MailForge to work:
    SERVERS FOR GENERIC EMAIL CLIENTS

With my HP (Palm) Pre 3 I am still figuring out why every single day they change the servers:
this however might help you as the Palm is more similar to the BB than the iPhone:
PALM PRE 3 SETTINGS: I also have updated the password on iCloud, deleted the old iCloud account on the Pre, created a new one. Please note that it now sends using the older server, I do not know for how long.

  • Out going mail not sending in mavericks

I've had this problem since upgrading to mavericks, mail not sending and the sntp server showing off line.
    I"VE FIXED IT!!!!
Guys hope this helps, the ports show default - 25, 465, 585 in edit smtp settings. Check the next box down - use this port and type in 25, I know its in the default list but its sent my mail when using the custom port.
Hope this helps, I spent all day yesterday on to my server supplier and onto chat with Apple in US but couldnt solve it.
    Best of luck!!

For the past few weeks, I have been noticing a similar problem: access to 11 email accounts, and three domains, is blocked on occasion. According to my web hosting company, this is happening because some process was attempting to connect via port 585, an insecure IMAP port; and that an automatic firewall rule was invoked to block those attempts. The blocking would last for about one hour after the last attempt was made to connect.
I'm running Mavericks. If I quit Mail, then restarted one hour later, the problem was resolved. UNTIL Mail attempted to connect to my mail servers, upon which the blocks were triggered again.
I downloaded Little Snitch. It told me, unsurprisingly at this point, that three email accounts were attempting to use port 585 to connect to their mail server. But I DON'T USE IMAP with those accounts! Why Mail is attempting to connect to a port which I haven't configured it to use is the puzzle.
The solution for me: tell Little Snitch to deny any access via port 585.

  • .Mac Account in mail not sending outgoing mail

It is receiving but not sending out. It worked fine in the UK, but I am now in Canada....would this make a difference ?
    Any help appreciated.

If the internet service provider you are using in Canada is different from the internet service provider used in the UK, yes.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for your .Mac account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings below for the .Mac SMTP server.
Enter 587 in place of 25 in the Server Port field and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting.
If you are already using 587 for the Server Port and/or this doesn't work, have you relocated to Canada or are you just traveling there?

  • Outgoing Mail not working with Mail.app in 10.5.7

I am helping my mom set up her email accounts on her new macbook laptop. It has 10.5.7
I have tried setting up two different email accounts in mail.app, one is a roadrunner webmail account, and the other is a gmail account. For the roadrunner account, I followed their instructions, which can be seen here: http://help.rr.com/HMSFaqs/eOSXmail.aspx
With the gmail account, mail.app was able to do the setup itself from the email address and password.
I know that the account information is partially correct because with both the accounts they were able to correctly download email onto the computer into mail.app. But both accounts have not been able to successfully send an email.
I can provide any other information about the settings used in the outgoing server or advanced information if it would be helpful.

This is so strange. The exact same thing happened to me yesterday. Suddenly, on my Mac and my PC, I was no longer able to SEND email. I am able to receive email...just not send. I too am a Comcast customer. I contacted Comcast and they, of course, said the problem had to do with the servers that my email client is trying to access and that it had nothing to do with them. We then set up my Comcast.net email account (which I never use) and it worked fine (sending and receiving).
So, I switched my other accounts to use Comcast's smtp server and that worked on the Mac only. I can now send email on my Mac but not on my PC.
This leads me to believe that it is not something wrong with my email client (since I have the problem on both my Mac and PC) but instead, something is up with Comcast.
I checked and it turns out that Comcast just implemented a new Acceptable Use Policy which specifically implements a NEW traffic management policy. This was JUST implemented this month. So, I am getting the sneaking suspicion that Comcast is somehow denying me access to those SMTP servers and I have to use their SMTP server instead.
Does this make any sense to anyone???? I am at a total loss here.
    Thanks,
    Susan

  • Why will mail not send when it will receive?

Mail receives correspondence on all accounts, but will not send on the grounds that the server forbids retransmission.  However it does work with wegbmail like yahoo and g accessed through safari.  How can I resolve this?

Did you check the outgoing mail server setting in each account? Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

  • Mail not sending - and sometimes even worse.

    Hello Everyone,
Sorry to bore you all with what is probably a very common issue. I have searched for this but I feel I am going to need personal help here.
My Dad has had his iMac for just over a year now and used Mac Mail to receive email from his two yahoo.co.uk email accounts. Never had a problem. He has a Powerbook G4 with the same two email accounts linked to Mac mail on that laptop too. No issues.
Last week he began to have trouble where by the outgoing mail would not send. It started on the iMac. The G4 was ok. By the following day the G4 was doing it too. It was, a few hundred miles away, happening to me also on my G4. I have a dot mac account and have done for years.
The iMac is still having this issue. It will not send mail. We have deleted the accounts and re attached them with no joy. the lap top appears to be working. As does mine.
Other than deleting the email account in Mails preferences, is there anything else that we should be doing to start a fresh? I really would appreciate some help here. This has completely stumped us!
    May thanks,
    Philip

    Thanks Carolyn,
I will try the cheat sheet to see if it helps. I must say the whole issue is highly strange. It's an issue that is affecting my Dad's computer, but the problem also affected me in exactly the same way at the same time, hundreds of miles away, and with totally different ISP's and ESP's. He has two Yahoo accounts and I have a Mac account!
The problem has just gone away for me but it continues to plague my poor Dad. I have been with Mac since 2004 and although it has only happened a handful of times, it has happened before and I could never get to the bottom of it. And eventually it also just went away. But it's been a couple of weeks now for my Father.
It must be something to do with Mac Mail or the operating system. We'll try the cheat sheet, but I'm quite certain his details are all correct. I even deleted all of the accounts and server address's over the weekend and started a fresh. It was ok for a day or so but has now started again.
I rarely criticise Mac, and am not really doing so now, but I think this is an issue they have and need to solve.
    Many thanks,
    Philip

  • Mail Not Sending; Recreate Account?

Comcast sent me an e-mail saying they had blocked the sending of email on port 25 (I was actually using 995), and that I should change my settings to send email on port 587. True, I could not send, but I could receive. When I switched to 587 (with password authentication and no SSL) I still could not send, and now get an alert saying "The connection to the server 'mail.comcast.net' on port 587 timed out." Note that it mentions the Incoming server as the problem, and not the Outgoing server, which is set to smtp.comcast.net. Now Comcast advises me to re-create the account. Is this the right thing to do, and how do I re-create an account without losing everything in mailboxes? Thanks.

Comcast sent me an e-mail saying they had blocked the sending of email on port 25 (I was actually using 995)
No, Port 995 is a receiving port, not a sending port.
Now Comcast advises me to re-create the account.
    Do this:
    1. Quit Mail if it's running.
    2. Go to ~/Library/Preferences and delete the com.apple.mail.plist file.
    3. Restart Mail, setup your account(s) again and wait for Mail to find your existing mailboxes. Then check to see if the problem persists.

  • Mail not sending and loads of spam

Worked forever yesterday trying to set up new ibook (and old imac) to filter and redirect some of this volumes of junk mail I have been receiving. I tried to set up a "rule" which redirected mail in which the sender was not in my contact book to another outside (my personal junk) email account because I wanted to recheck this to make sure it was working right. It appeared to be great, but then I could no longer send "any" emails unless I sent them to my .mac from an outside email. I worked forever on this, and this am got up and changed machines. My new error message states that "can not use this server as it exceeded 400 receipients in one day". Apparently when I created the new rule it sent everything stored in my email accounts to this forwarding address, which exceeded the daily limit.
My question is this: do I now just wait for 24 hours to elapse and everything will be OK? When exactly does the time frame end.
Second question, what is the deal with this stupid spam that everyone seems to be getting now? I have used dot mac for over 4 years and now it seems someone using different dot mac accts have "tricked" the server by using unique names each time.
Seems to me the dot mac people need to concentrate on these spammers more than on lil personal email account me who was just trying to "fix" a problem that they are not fixing at the host site.
    Comments...

.Mac has several safeguards in place to ensure that only .Mac members send messages with the Mac.com outgoing mail server. Among them are reasonable limitations on:
    * The number of messages that can be sent each day (200 messages)
    * The number of recipients that can be sent to each day (400 recipients)
    * The number of recipients a message can be addressed to at one time (100 recipients)
    * The size of outgoing messages
There is also a 10 MB maximum size for messages sent or received using the .Mac mail system.
Most ISPs and email account providers have identical or similar restrictions.
My question is this: do I now just wait for 24 hours to elapse
and everything will be OK? When exactly does the time frame end.
Yes and I believe the time frame is reset at midnight and is based on midnight to midnight each day.
Second question, what is the deal with this stupid spam that
everyone seems to be getting now?
Copied from How .Mac filters spam.
The .Mac mail servers filter spam, but some unwanted messages may still get through.
No single strategy is completely effective when it comes to managing Unsolicited Bulk Email (UBE), also known as "spam". People who are intent on sending spam are ingenious at coming up with ways around any filtration schemes.
In addition, see Why was I "spammed" at my .Mac Mail address? which applies to any email account and How HTML Email Messages Relate to Unsolicited Commercial Email ("spam") which applies to any email client such as the Mail.app.
The next step is for implementing and enforcing laws against spammers with huge fines and 20 years hard labor for those convicted should help.

  • Mail not sending while traveling

When I travel with my powerbook and use mac mail, none of my outgoing servers work. Shouldn't my me.com account work anywhere my mail works? Also, my comcast acct doesn't work, but it's a secondary account, so not as important as my 'me' account.
I've had to resort to logging in to my me.com account on the internet, and sending mail from there. It works, but it's not how I want things to operate.
Is there something I don't know about my outgoing mail servers? Why would they not work from anywhere but home?
    Thanks
    Bruce

    Hi Bruce,
It generally boils down to the fact that ISPs generally won't pass through email sending unless it uses the right Ports & Authentication.
SMTP and SMTP-SSL is on ports 25, 587 and 465. Port 587 has to be SSL, and port 465 is enforced TLS-wrapped and is generally used by Outlook users.
