Outgoing mail on desktop doesnt work

when use my main mail on the desktop or whatever i can recieve emails fine but i cant send mail. i dont know why i tried somethings but nothing really worked. does anyone know how to change this. thanks.

Are you also accessing an email account and SMTP server that is provided by your internet service provider with the Mail.app and if so, are you able to send messages with this account?
It has been a while since I've used Jaguar Mail but these directions should be the same or similar.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for your .Mac account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings button below for the .Mac SMTP server.
Enter 587 in place of 25 in the Server Port field and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting.
If this doesn't work, what is the error message provided?

I am a teacher and have my own iPad with a data plan.  We also have a router in teh classroom for wifi, and it has a very strong signal.  On Safari, the ipads can connect to the internet.  But when in applications such as Keynote and HTML Egg, I try to e-mail presentat. or post website to web, it doesnt work.  I tried re-setting the proxies and the router, no luck.  Please Help!  I am a teacher and want my students to be able to post their websites on to the web, and e-mail themselves and their parents their Keynote Presentations.

Try this. Turn your iPad Off. Then disconnect the power going to the router for 30 seconds or longer. Then replug the power to the router (allow it to initialize) and turn On the iPad. Hopefully everything will connect. If not, see below.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Outgoing mail server doesn't work

    Hi,
2 hours on the phone with Verizon and they couldn't help me....
I moved to a new apartment, and from Comcast to Verizon. Now, it's not recognizing my Outgoing Mail Server.
I changed it to the SMTP that Verizon recommended - nothing.
I tried the solution suggested elsewhere in this board, for changing the port from 25 to 587, and - nothing. Same problem.
Any ideas? I'm at my wits end here.

Huh, I don't know what just happened....I tried your suggestion by instead of just having my verizon username as the outgoing username, having the entire email address ([email protected]). Still didn't work, but then i tried removing the password authentication -- which I'd already tried before -- and the mail sent. Very strange...Glad that's working now!
Now I need to get my AirPort to work with Verizon - the other one of my challenges...See my message under AirPort express, if you care to offer any thoughts

  • Outgoing mail (SMTP) won't work

Setting up mail in new Imac and having problems with outgoing mail. Using SBC Global.net, (AT&T) have previously not had problems on prior system. Lost all previous settings, etc. on other so could not just transfer. Incoming mail seems to work find, but when trying to send keep getting msg. that the smtp server rejected the password. Have went to keychain and verified password, checked settings mail preferences, nothing seems to work, any ideas appreciated!

I think I may have just figured out a part of this puzzle. I have more than just my att account set up in Mail. Even though all of my accounts are setup to use the ATT SMTP server only (with the appropriate ATT login info) I am getting the same rejection notices as everyone else.
I noticed that in the rejection notice though, that it was saying I was sending mail from my other main account, not my sbcglobal (ATT) account. I thought that was strange since I set up all my accounts to use the SBC (ATT) login info for ATT's SMTP Server. So obviously it is a problem in Mail. Mail is somehow confused and sending some wrong piece of info to the SMTP server. When I changed the sender from my other account to my SBCGLOBAL account, the mail went right out with no other problems.
So this isn't a solution for those of you who are struggling with only an ATT account, but I think it points to a possible problem within Mail. The answer might be to delete the accounts in Mail and set them back up again. It's looking like Apple might need to make a tweak to Mail to fix this if indeed this is the correct cause. Hope this helps someone.

  • My outgoing mail servers aren't working

Most of my outgoing mail servers, including one of my iCloud accounts, are not working. This has been an ongoing problem, and as I've gotten the error message, I've just redirected the outgoing message to use a reliable outgoing server.
Now, however, I've gotten a new computer, and the "reliable" outgoing server won't work anymore.
I've gone to every ISP's website and copied the settings exactly, but I'm getting the same error message on both of my computers, that the message could not send using ______ server.
On some of the ISP's message boards, I've seen the same issue from many Mac Mail.app users, but no satisfactory answers. (Most people just say, "you must have copied the settings wrong" and have no back-up answers if this isn't really the problem.)
Any thoughts? I hate using webmail!
    Thanks!

I forgot to mention, I think, that this problem exists in Mail.app.
I just downloaded and tried to use Thunderbird, and the problem doesn't exist there!
This may be a temporary solution, although I prefer the Mail.app UI, where I can see all of the messages from every inbox in the same window.

  • The aplication mail in mac doesnt work

the mail in the mac stopped working yesterday. and when I tried to solve it, I unchecked the mail at preferences and the  checked it back, and now I've lost all mails. Is still working in Iphone and IPad. Please help me.

Back up all data. Quit Preview if it's running.
Hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar. From the Library folder, delete the following items, if they exist:
              Containers/com.apple.Preview
              Group Containers/com.apple.Preview
              Preferences/com.apple.Preview.LSSharedFileList.plist
              Preferences/com.apple.Preview.SandboxedPersistentURLs.LSSharedFileList.plist
              Saved Application State/com.apple.Preview.savedState
Log out and log back in. Launch the application and test.

  • Outgoing mail server won't work! Help

I've had a perfectly working .mac email account for over a year. Suddenly Mail refuses to send my outgoing email from the default <smtp.mac.com:my.name> server. I have to use a server from my other email account to get the mails out.
Has something happened? I have not received any info about changed preferences.
    Please help, it is annoying.
    Thanks!

Very likely that your ISP has changed policy with regard to allowing third party SMTP on Port 25. Switch to Port 587, and test -- see:

  • Mail 2.1.3 Outgoing Mail Server suddenly stop working

Recently I had some problems every time I send an email, but I would restart Mail and the emails on the outbox folder would send after a few seconds. Now is not sending at all. "Can not send massage using the server smtpout...." This server is the same and has not been change so I don't understand why is not working. Please help!!!

Both my husband and I are having the same problem, and it's not just the account situation. I am having a ton of difficulty sending. I keep hitting the "Try with selected server" until it sends. And in actuality EVERYTHING is slower and ponderous on the whole machine. Typing is bad. Internet seems slower. Honestly, I'm upset about it. I still have a few months of Apple Care and will call tomorrow, but I think Apple wants me to get rid of my laptop for the latest model. Anyway, two questions: 1. Is there anything else I can do to fix this mail problem? 2. What do you think: Do I need to buy a new machine? Or is everything crashing? Oh drat. I hate this.

  • "E-mail report" feature doesnt work as it supposed to ?

    hi,
I've created a custom public report in OEM and i'm scheduling it with email sending. However, the mail i'm receiving is:
From : wrong value -> it contains the value from 'reply to' field in the schedule folder
the content is just a link to the OEM login page !!!!
i thought at least i will have a link to the report and even the report output in the mail received.
Is it a bug or is it the normal behavior ???
    Thanks for your replies
    Christophe

Apart from the fact that you need to set the "Schedule report" checkbox and E-Mail recipient in the Report Definition you don't need to do any additional setup.
So in the report definition go to the Schedule Page
    Check "Schedule Report"
Check "E-mail report each time the scheduled report completes"
Enter the "Reply To" (Senders address)
Enter the "To" (Recipient to receive the e-mail)
    Regards

  • System Pref "Desktop" doesnt work

    Hey guys,
In my desktop prefs where i change my desktop wallpaper, everytime i add a new folder to select pictures from, they always add as "aperture projects" and it loads my aperture library. How can i reset this and use an actual folder???

    LMBvideo wrote:
Ok, I did that but i was only able to find 2 of them.
    com.apple.preference.desktopscreeneffect.plist
    com.apple.desktop.plist
I moved those like you said, did a restart, but am still having the same problem. Could aperture be to blame?? I saw an aperture preference file but didnt do anything with it. What else could i try?? thanks a ton too.
It could be the aperture pref file. Dragging it to the desktop simply forces the system to create a new, default one, so the worst thing is you have to reset your preferences again.
That might be the one, or it could be some other obscure .plist.
It might even be the plist for Finder itself.
If you want, you can experiment and drag them, one at a time to the desktop and reboot.
As noted, no guarantee, but I am sure it's one of these .plists.
Maybe someone here knows which one or has a good idea of which ones.
After rebooting, if the problem is fixed or not, if everything else is normal, you can safely trash the .plist files on your desktop.

  • Outgoing Mail with Yosemite still does not work

My SMTP outgoing mail still will not work since I upgraded to Yosemite. It worked fine with Maverick. I have tried deleting the mail and starting over unchecking different things and retyping the password.

this helped immediately: i changed the DNS (network settings) to the google DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 – all emails went out in the same second.

  • Me outgoing mail server not working from iPhone / Reply to email address

Hi, I have MM sent up on my iPhone and Mac, the SMTP outgoing mail server does not work from the iPhone but does from the Mac, to get around this I changed the outgoing server on the iPhone to my optusnet outgoing server, that has been working fine, the problem I have is if someone reply's to a email from the phone it gets bounced back becuase the reply to email address for me is @mac.com not from @me.com
I have tried to change the reply to email address in the phone but it only allows you to change the name not the @mac.com
I have only ever had a Me account not a .Mac account so I dont know why its locked to @mac

I deleted the MM account on the phone and reinstalled it again. Now it is working.
