Outgoing mail server off-line:

I have developed a problem with my MAIL email client. I cannot send out on either of my POP accounts but can receive. Outgoing mail goes via my gmail account server. I have checked the settings with Onetel and they are OK and also work using Mailzone. Outgoing also works using these settings on my iphone.

Using the password method is not a hassle you are assuming you need to input the password everytime you email, that isn't the case. You input the information once and from there it's automated. Here is how you do it:
Mail - Prefrences - Accounts Tab - highlight the account - click Outgoing Mail Server SMTP and choose Edit SMTP List - Click Advanced Tab - in Authentification choose Password and input the Username and PW info. Once that's done exit Preferences and send a test email to yourself.

Cannot receive or send mail.  Server off line  "ssl off " . how do I turn on ssl?

    Hello there, gillaf.
To turn adjust your SSL settings the following Knowledge Base article will be of assistance:
Mac OS X Mail: About Secure Email Communications (SSL)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA25586
    Setting up Mail for SSL
Important: These steps require Mac OS X 10.1.3 or later.
    1. Open the Mail application.
    2. Choose Preferences from the Mail application menu.
    3. Click Accounts.
    4. Select an account name, and click Edit.
    5. Click the Account Options tab.
    6. Click the Use SSL checkbox to enable this option.
Selecting the checkbox will auto-populate the default port numbers. If there is a non-default port number already present, it will not change. You can manually enter a number if your ISP gave you a different port number. Be sure you enter the correct port for your mail server here when selecting SSL, even if it auto-populates a default number.
Note: If SSL is accidentally set up when it should not be, or is configured using the incorrect port for your mail server, an alert box with a message similar to this may appear:
"Fetch Error: Couldn't connect to a POP host name mail.apple.com."
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Can't deactivate outgoing mail server on iOS

I can't deactivate my outgoing mail server for my Gmail account on iOS. I can slide the button to off, but I can't OK only Cancel and go back out.
The reason I'm interested in doing this, is just because I'm discontinuing this email. And just only want to be able to receive and not send emails. And I've I don't deactivate the outgoing mail server, I still end up by mistake sending emails from my Gmail account when replying etc. I KNOW I can't just opening my eyes and choose another account. But then the music plays I forget.
    I've attached a screenshot...

It may be that your settings have become corrupted. The first line of defense is to change something in there, close the preferences, quit mail, then open mail, change it back and close the preferences and see if that straightens it out.
The second step is more draconian. You will need to re-enter ALL your mail settings, so you first need to write them down somewhere for easy reference. Then you move the mail preference .plist files to the desktop and re-enter your preferences, in hopes of having the new one be correct.
There are a couple of similar post here in the last 90 days, which a search may uncover, or just post back and someone can point you to the files that contain those preferences, with out trashing the index to your stored emails.

  • Outlook 2007 - Outgoing mail server from a 3rd party

I tried to set up the outgoing mail server for my Outlook 2007 with a 3rd party mail server. e.g. mail.xxxx.com, and I could not send the e-mail at all. If I set up the  outgoing mail server as outgoing.verizon.net, I can send the email to everyone else but not to this 3rd party mail server mail.xxxx.com. I received the undeliverable message from Verizon that the mail was rejected due to not being able to log on to this 3r party mail server. I am working for this company from home and it requires me to set up this for my outgoing mail server. Does anyone know how to fix this, including specifying what needs to be done at the 3rd party mail server to change to accept emails sent from outgoing.verizon.net? Thank you in advance. Andy

Port 25 is the standard for SMTP, although some now use a submission port, 587. I know port 25 off network is blocked for residential users, I don't know if 587 is blocked off network because I have never tried it. I suspect it is. Verizon is by no means the only ISP to do this.
Business accounts do not have blocked ports as far as I know, so if you have a business account, you are free to communicate using port 25 anywhere.
Verizon has recently gone to non-standard port assignments for SMTP and POP servers. see

  • How do I fix my iPod touch's problem with hotmail outgoing mail server?

I have just received a new replacement iPod touch 8Gb.
On my old model I used the house wifi network to connect to HOTMAIL in the mail app it would set the account up immediately and work perfectly.
This time, when I tried to set the account up I had a long delay while it verified account details. Then after opting to set up account without using SSL an account was generated with an error message to say I may not be able to send or receive mail.
Incoming mail is OK, outgoing is not working.
The error message told me that I needed to configure my outgoing mail server.
My default outgoing server is set to smtp.live.com and works on port 587.
I have an additional server set to 'on', which is also smtp.live.com working on port 465, which was set up when I tried to alter the port number on the default server. Still no outgoing mail.
    Any suggestions?

Followed your instructions and again, account verification failed using SSL.
I chose to create without SSL and got the following message:
'The SMTP server 'smtp.live.com' is not responding'. I accepted the details,
the email Inbox populated, and everything looks normal.
    Same error is occuring:
'Connection to outgoing server 'smtp.live.com' failed. Additional outgoing mail servers can be configured in settings>mail, contacts and calendars'
    The settings are as follows:
    Incoming mail server
    Host Name: pop3.live.com
    username: is correct
    password: is correct
    Outgoing SMTP:
    Primary server
    host name: smtp.live.com
    username: is correct
password: is correct (has been re-entered just in case)
    Use SSL: OFF
    Authentication: password
    server port 587
I have duplicate SMTP servers listed under 'Other SMTP servers' with exactly the same details as above so it seems as if the iPod is retaining some settings even after I delete account.
Also, I wonder if there is anything I need to get the network administrator to do, because he did ask for the Wi-Fi address of my previous iPod touch could it just be a case of allowing it as a specific device on our network?

  • Outgoing mail server and WiFi Questions

DeepPurple23, thank you -- you solved my problem as well!
Can either of you tell me what's involved in choosing a Wi-Fi network? I'm trying to choose one, but don't know whether I'm DHCP, BootP or Static. DHCP is preselected, but then the only lines that allow me to fill in anything are DNS, Search Domains and Client ID. What should I put there? My IPS is earthlink, and I created a client id, but I'm not getting anywhere. Thanks for any help you can give.
Message was edited by: Host - branched to new thread for new issue

    nakoma,
EarthLink should allow you to user their outgoing mail server smtpauth.earthlink.net on port 587 on WiFi or EDGE. Cwmx.com is a work around that only works on EDGE.
As for choosing a WiFi network. Do you have a wireless router such as an Airport Base Station?
If so, you would connect to it, and it connects to your internet connection. Many places offer free WiFi or WiFi that they charge for. This can include restaurants, coffee shops, libraries, and even some cities are experimenting with it. To join one of those networks go to Settings -> WiFi, turn WiFi on, and it will search for WiFi networks that are within range.
Click on the wireless network you want to join. If there is a "lock" next to it that indicates whoever setup that wireless router or base station, and is likely paying for it to connect to the internet set it up to use encryption and a password. You would have to ask them for permission to use their network and the password to use.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

MobileMe & dot Mac will still work last I heard.

Don't delete your old account yet. Just setup a new one in Mail>Preferences>Accounts, little plus icon. Choose IMAP as account type, not ,mac or MobileMe.

  • Ipowerweb and outgoing mail server issues

getting my POP account on my iPhone to send mail successfully has proven to be difficult.
why is it that on my old Nokia E61 my incoming and outgoing mail server settings "mail.mydomain.net" worked regardless of whether i was on edge or wifi -- yet on my iPhone the only way i can send email is to turn wifi off, and input "cwmx.com" as my outgoing mail server and send sloooowly over edge?
i guess my question is, what is different about the way the iPhone connects to different servers, if my old phone did not have any issues with it at all - and how can i remedy this? shouldnt it be as simple as sycing the settings from my POP account on my G5? what am i missing here...and is this specific to ipowerweb hosting?
    thanks

    aegez,
As a point of clarification, if you are going to use Port 25 on EDGE you have to use cwmx.com. Many networks filter port 25 traffic because of port 25 traffic has been abused by people sending unsolicited bulk email (aka spam). AT&T's EDGE network is not the only network to filter port 25.
The iPhone in some situations will try other common ports, many of which will require authentication.
If you are using an outgoing mail server that requires authentication on a port besides port 25 it should work on both WiFi and EDGE in most situations. The exception would be on networks that filter traffic on all ports as a security major, such as some work environments.

  • Mac mail - SSL option for the SMTP outgoing mail server - Help!

Mac mail (Version 6.3 (1503)) will not let me "uncheck" the SSL option for the SMTP outgoing mail server - Help!
    Thanks!

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
    First, empty the Trash.
Triple-click the line below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 -o -acl \) 2> /dev/null | wc -l
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
The output of this command, on a line directly below what you entered, will be a number such as "41." Please post it in a reply.

  • Outgoing mail server failed to deliver this message

This message appeared. I have not sent 400 messages. What's the deal??
""The outgoing mail server “smto,mac.com:jones” failed to deliver this message. 4.0.0 You have exceeded 400 recipients in the last 24 hours. Try again later.""

    You're welcome.
If you're a .Mac member using Mac OS X version 10.2.1 or later, you can synchronize the contact information between the Address Book application on your computer and your .Mac Address Book on the web. You can also synchronize your contact information between multiple Mac OS computers.
If you're using a version of Mac OS X earlier than version 10.4, you must have iSync installed on your computer to synchronize the information. To download iSync, go to
    www.apple.com/support/downloads/isync.html
You can't synchronize the information in your .Mac Address Book if you have an email-only account.
To sync your .Mac Address Book:
    Do one of the following:
If you're using a version of Mac OS X earlier than version 10.4, open iSync and click the .Mac button. Register your .Mac account, turn on .Mac synchronization, and then click the Sync Now button.
(Note: If you are syncing contact information between multiple Mac OS computers, use iSync to register all the computers you want to keep synchronized. For more information, choose Help > iSync Help when iSync is open.)
After the sync has completed, go to www.mac.com and click Address Book on the .Mac tab.
Click Preferences, and then select the "Turn on .Mac Address Book
    Synchronization" checkbox.
    Click Save.
With Address Book synchronization turned on, the contact information in your .Mac Address Book on the web and the Address Book application on your computer will be updated with any changes each time you sync.
You can turn off synchronization between the Address Book application on your computer and your .Mac Address Book on the web by deselecting the "Turn on .Mac Address Book Synchronization" checkbox. While this checkbox is deselected, changes you make to either address book are saved until the next time you select this checkbox and click the Sync Now button on the .Mac pane or in iSync. (For example, if you delete an address from your .Mac Address Book with this checkbox deselected, this address will be deleted from the Address Book on your computer's hard disk the next time you sync with synchronization turned on.)
If your kid has his/her own computer login account, one way to transfer selected contacts from your Address Book to your kid's address book is to create a folder on the Desktop named Contacts or whatever you prefer. Launch Address Book and one at a time, select a contact's name to highlight it and then single click and drag the contact to the created Contacts folder on the Desktop. This will create a vCard copy of the contact.
Using the Finder, go to Home > Shared. Place the Contacts folder on the Desktop in the Shared folder.
When your kid logs in to his/her account, the Contacts folder will be available in his/her Shared folder at Home > Shared.
Launch Address Book and at the menu bar, go to File > Import and select vCards. Navigate to/within the Contacts folder in the Shared folder and the vCards in the Contacts folder will be imported to your kid's Address Book.

  • Trying to add my thunderbird work email account to my new iphone, how do I find my "incoming mail server" and "outgoing mail server" host names?

Got a new Iphone 6 and I need to add my work thunderbird email account onto the phone. It is asking me for the host name of my incoming and outgoing mail server and I have no idea what this means- please help!

First off there is no such thing as a Thunderbird email account. Email providers issue email accounts and Thunderbird is email client software and not a provider.
You can look at the server settings in Thunderbird to see the settings it is using or you could get a list from your provider.
In Thunderbird go to the menu bar and select Tools-Account Settings-Server Settings to see the Inbound settings and Tools-Server Settings-Outbging Server(SMTP) for Outbound settings.
No menu bar with Tools showing? Press the alt key.

  • Problems sending mail: some problem with the outgoing mail server SMTP?

I can't send e mails: some problem with the outgoing mail server SMTP?

I had this same problem with both my imac and mac book pro using hotmail via mac mail with bt as my internet provider. Suddenly 4 months ago out of nowhere i could receive emails but could not send them. I scoured all the threads followed all the fixes none of them worked. However I just phoned apple support and fixed it in a matter of minutes. I am SO happy. This is what the technician advised me:
Go to your apple icon and scroll down to system preferences. Then dependant on what machine you have it is different for my imac and mac book pro click on either air port/wifi then the advanced tab in the bottom right hand corner. Then click on the DNS tab. Hit the + sign on the left hand side and type in 8.8.8.8 then hit the + sign again on the left hand side it will create a new line underneathe and type 8.8.4.4 then hit okay on the bottom right and then hit apply, again on the bottom right. Then send a test email to check but it should be fixed.
Had to share this. Its been driving me mad for months.

  • Outgoing Mail server Problems

I have added my AOL accounts to my Mail app and it was working just fun, but all of a sudden when I tried to send mail from those addresses, this thing comes up:
    <<Cannot send from this server.
Use the pop-up menu below to try a different outgoing mail server. All messages will use this server until you quit Mail or change your network settings.>>
What's going on? Now it just puts everything in the outbox until I get it sorted. Thanks!

Do you have attachments on any of the mail you are sending?
The mail message might be too big or the server is busy with sending other messages or receiving mail- this could be why you are getting the “try a different outgoing mail server”

I have been trying for the last week or so to get my adelphia mail to send from Mail. I can receive mail no problem, but the outgoing mail server does not work. I have the settings as such:
    outgoing server: mail.adelphia.net
server port: 587 (also tried 25)
    SSL: off
    Password: none
The error that I get is that port 587 times out. When I switch it to port 25 I get "This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
Verify that you have addressed this message correctly. Check your SMTP server settings in Mail Preferences and verify any advanced settings with your system administrator."
I made sure my password is correct in keychain as well.
When I run a tracer route to find the ISP I get " gig2-1.clmascspv-rtr1.sc.rr.com, cable6-cha.edge.aol.com, son4-1-2.rlghncrdc-rtr3.nc.rr.com " as #2, 3, 4. I have tried to use these servers, but with no success.

Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.
I get 100% success pinging mail.adelphia.net, and if at your home venue where Adelphia is your ISP, then I think no separate Authentication is required. Port 25 would be the proper port. However, if you are not at home, and the provider of internet connection limits you to using only authenticated SMTP then you would not able to use mail.adelphia.net as the Outgoing Server.
Are you at the venue where Adelphia is the ISP?
