Outgoing mail server rejected password - using microsoft exchange email

hi everybody,
so i have a microsoft exchange outlook email account from my school. i recently have started having troubles with apple mail sending messages. it rejects the password of my email account. i have gone to outlook.com several times and changed the passwords but to no avail. i know it used to work. i went on a trip to guatemala and came back and now it seems to hate me. i cant remember if the problem arose after my switch to snow leopard either..
i went to the help section on the outlook page after i log in but after i change to those settings its still rejects my outgoing mail password.
is there a bug with snow leopard? oh good as i am writing this mail just 'quit unexpectedly'..aww the joys of just having microsoft email- imagine a whole operating system based on such inadequacies (i must vent.. this is extremely annoying that i have to reply back to people with my gmail account)..
thanks in advance!

It is likely the Port setting for the SMTP has either gotten changed while you were away, or your provider has changed what settings are needed. Check the settings carefully. If you know exactly what Port should be used, change to Use Custom Port, enter the Port manually, and proceed to test again.

  • I want to use microsoft exchange email on my mac. What is the best way to do this?

I want to use microsoft exchange email on my mac. I currently have the Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63) operating system.  Is this compatible with microsoft exchange?  If not, what can I do to make this work?
    Thanks!

First, someone needs to offer that kind of service to you, i.e., your employer. Then, they have to allow you to access it.

  • SMTP Outgoing Mail Server does not use password so I can not send mail..

    Hi All
Can anyone help me with this?
My POP email accounts on Hosting.365.ie do not use a password to authenticate outgoing mail. They rely on a prior authenticated download to enable the outgoing mail server.
On my MacBook Pro there is an option in the SMTP server settings under authentication for "none' and all my accounts work perfectly on the MacBook.
However my iPhone4 (brand new) and iPad (both up to date) there is no option under the SMTP server settings for "none". I think this is the root of the problem. Has anyone else come across this or is there a workaround?
Many thanks if anyone has any insights.
    Peter

Yeah, I don't know why the difference. Interestingly for me, the iOS version in iOS4.2 is "better" than the OSX version of Mail because now I can have more than one Exchange account.
I am sympathetic with your need to separate your lives. I have a client that accidentally got one of my alternate email addresses and cannot/will not update his address book with the "correct" address, despite my requesting several times over the course of a year. In any case, I don't think there is any way around this other than completely changing your email address. (If not a second Gmail, then Yahoo, Hotmail or other email provider.)
The only time I've ever seen a "no password" SMTP server was as I previously said, it used a "network authentication" method. Many, many moons ago, SMTP servers often didn't have password authentication so would often be used for spam relaying. Before mobile users, "network authentication" by ISPs was fine since they could figure out which user was spamming since they could trace the IP addr, MAC addr, etc back through the physical link to the user. But with mobile users who change networks constantly, the general trend was to password authentication, even for wired ISPs since their users would want to have access to send mail while away from home. (e.g.: you're a RoadRunner customer, but want to send mail while using your laptop on vacation in Italy.) This "prior authenticated download" I've never heard of anyone else doing.

  • Mail: outgoing and now incoming mail server rejects password

Hello all. Hope you can help with this one.
I was using Mail as normal yesterday. I use the same incoming mail server and SMTP server (my university's Exchange server). Then sending mail suddenly failed. The error message I get is:
The SMTP server “exch.wlv.ac.uk” rejected the password for user “(null)”
Enter your password again or cancel.
The settings are port 995 for outgoing mail, using SSL and requiring password authentication.
I've verified my settings and passwords with IT support. They say they haven't altered anything, and nor have I.
I've tried Connection Doctor: it says Mail connected with the exch. server without any problems. However, under Account Information, the server says (offline).
I've changed ports (to 25 and 587): no success.
I've deleted my password from Keychain and Mail plist and reentered it. No success.
    I've verified and repaired permissions.
I'm now not getting incoming mail either: the error message is
There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “Staff POP” or try again.
The server returned the error: The connection to host exch.wlv.ac.uk on port 25 failed.
I can send and receive using web-based OWA.
Is there anything else I can do, or is it a server problem?
    Thanks,
    Aidan

May be no help to you Aidan except comfort in numbers. Mail has started behaving erratically for me in the past week. My inbox and account mail has disappeared and my accounts keep being rejected by the webmail host similar to your problem; password rejected etc.  Then Mail closes abruptly telling me there's a problem and offering to send a report to Apple. Mail is version 4.5 and the iMac is 10.6.8. Help!

  • Outgoing mail server rejects mail

    Hello,
My ISP's SMTP server started rejecting the outgoing mail I am trying to send through it.  I called them, but they checked the settings with me (which as far as I know had not changed).  They said they were OK and that I should call Apple.
Does anyone know what would cause this  I restarted the computer and the modem/network completely.  It still does it.  I have a pc on the same network which is able to send mail through the same SMPT server, so it does seem like something on this mac maybe.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks

  • What outgoing mail server should i use

I am trying to set up an icloud account on my mac and when i try to send emails i get a message that both incoming and outgoing mail servers are incorrect and are also showing offline even though i go to mail and "take all accounts on line"   if i go to the internet icloud.com i have my mail, but i can t get teh mail through mail app on new mac

As you have Mountain Lion your best bet is to sign out in System Preferences>iCloud and then sign back in again, enabling Mail and any other data types you want synced in the checklist there. This should set Mail up properly for you. Your data will disappear when you sign out but will reappear when you sign back in.
The correct email settings are listed here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864
but you shouldn't need to set them up manually.

  • Is there a way  that you can use microsoft exchange email without using a passcode

My company recently purchased 12 iPhone 4 and would like to add each person's email to each person phone.
We use Microsft Exchange - outlook.
Problem I'm having is whenever I setup this new email account in Microsoft Exchange is requires a passcode.
Is there a way that I can deactive passcode so each person can use their phone without entering a passcode everytime they turn phone off & on.
Under passcode the turn off is grayed out. And I have tired & tired to reset passcode to elimate the need to enter a passcode but nothing working.
    Advise me - please

That is a restriction placed on it by your company's IT department as imobl indicated.
Many companies, including mine, require the passcode for any device accessing the corporate Exchange system. Odds of them removing the requirement are extremely slim. In some cases, such as health care, this is a legal requirement.

  • ICloud SMTP as Freemail.hu's outgoing mail server "rejects sender address"

Using verified settings of iCloud's as outgoing server (smtp.me.com, working iCloud username and password, SSL on or off, password authentication, server port 587) as of my freemail.hu (hungarian mail service provider) account on my iPhone 4 iOS5, letters sent from my freemail account arrive in Outbox as Unsent Message with the error message "The sender address [email protected] was rejected by the server" - with checked working apple server at sending and otherwise perfect iCloud mail account. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance...

I realise you don't intend to send spam, but unfortunately there are plenty of spammers in this world who would happily use Apple's servers to send out spam. That's why Apple lock it down to @me.com and @mac.com addresses only.
GMail will allow you to send external email through their servers once you have performed some identity verification through your external email account. That may be an option for you.

  • Can't log in to my (mobileme) email on Mail/Server rejecting password, Can't log in to my (mobileme) email on Mail/Server rejecting password

    Hi all,
I went to check my email in mail last night and my mobileme account was offline. (Gmail account is online no problem). I clicked to take it back online, but it wouldn't accept my password. My parents also have this address on their mail (2 x macbook pros on lion, 2 x iphone 4, 1 x ipad4 -if this is relevant!) as its our main business account. The same situation was on their devices.
I came into the studio this morning and tried the following on my computer:
-Re-setting password on iforgot. (This took a few attempts as I can't use alternative email address as it doesn't work and is years old, and it kept telling me my security question (Bday) was wrong when it was correct...) I got there in the end and changed the password successfully.
-Went to remove keychain, but there was nothing there at all for the account
-Deleting account and re-setting up. This didnt work, as it wouldnt accept my password (new or old).
This happened a few weeks ago as well, and resetting the password and resetting the account worked.
I also did the same on my parents devices, and the new account was set up fine, so we can at least access the emails via their computers.
The differences between the computers, and what I'm guessing the problem is, I am on Snow leopard (10.6.8), on old version of mail (4.5) and obviously not connected to icloud. They are on lion and the latest versions of mail, and on icloud.
I desperately don't want to upgrade to lion as I run lots of expensive software off my machine, (photoshop, illustrator, indesign, after effects etc) and don't want lion to mess them up.
Do you think the fact i'm on such an old version is the problem? Why would the account have been taken offline on the other devices initally though?
I have had different messages popping up:
"The MobileMe IMAP server “mail.me.com” rejected the password for user...."
"Logging in to the MobileMe IMAP server “mail.me.com” failed. Make sure the user name and password you entered are correct, then click Continue. If the information isn’t correct, you cannot receive messages."
And something about the certificate not being secure.
Sorry, this has been all over the place - very behind now and rushing!! Hope it makes sense and someone can help soon, as I need to send a ton of emails this afternoon off my machine! :-) Thanks in advance!!

You can continue to run most PowerPC software in Mt. Lion by installing Snow Leopard Server into Parallels 8:

Apple is now selling Snow Leopard Server for $19.99 + sales tax & shipping costs at 1.800.MYAPPLE (1.800.692.7753) - Apple Part Number: MC588Z/A (telephone orders only).

  • Mail server rejected password

The SMTP server "smtp.mac.com" rejected the password for user "XXX" Please re-enter your password or cancel.
This is the error I am getting on my laptop and on my iphone. It started on June 5th and now I can't receive any emails.
I have OS 10.4.11 an my iphone version is 2.2.1
I have read other people recently having similar problem with their Yahoo accounts(and didn't find a working solution), but I am using only Apple's Mail.
    Thank you for any help.

Problem resolved after renewing my MobileMe account with a credit card that hadn't been canceled.

  • Which outgoing mail server

I can receive mail fine but cannot send.  Wondering what outgoing mail server I should use.  I have a verizon.net email

    From the Verison support website:
    Mail server settings
    Incoming mail server (POP3): incoming.verizon.net
    Incoming Server Port Numbers: 995
    Outgoing mail server (SMTP): outgoing.verizon.net
Outgoing Server Port Numbers: 465  Why is this important?
    Your Verizon Online user name
    Your Verizon Online password
Make sure "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" is checked.

  • Mail (outgoing mail server) defaults to an old incorrect entry.

Where are the mail (outgoing mail server) settings stored?
FOLLOW THIS THREAD: mail 2.1; preferences; accounts; Account information; Outgoing mail Server (SMTP); open this window and go to edit server list; highlight and delete all entries; then go back to account information; and select; server settings. This will open into a new window where you may type in the Outgoing mail server.
The outgoing mail server then in use. defaults into a previously incorrect outgoing mail server.
Where are these outgoing mail server settings stored and how do I delete them?

    Melvin,
There is a way to purge all Mail Preferences, and start over, but I am wondering if you have any messages stuck in the Outbox, and those may reference previously entered SMTP? Do you have any messages awaiting sending, or have you only tried with newly composed messages, after the change in SMTP entries?

  • HT4864 The Outgoing Mail Server drop down box in mail setup keeps reverting back to 'None' - anyone have any ideas why?

    Hi
I've been having difficulties with mail on my Mac and have checked all the settings.  I have three mail accounts, 2 iClouds (different acct names) and 1 bigpond account.
Whenever I change the outgoing mail server drop down boxes for the iCloud accts and save my changes, I go out of it then when I go back to the iCloud accts the drop down boxes for both iCloud accounts have reverted back to 'None'.
Is this of any relevance?  Is it 'normal'?
I've tried deleting all mail accounts and adding them all again but the same thing still happens.
I have been on Apple Support and followed the Mail Acct setup tutorial.
I'd appreciate any help on this matter thanks.

Thanks for your reply Winston Churchill.
Because I'd been having problems which had recently been resolved by AppleCare Support I decided to go through all my accounts and check their individual settings.  I found a Tutorial on Apple support for setting up or verifying email account settings and found mine were different so I changed it.
In any event I took your advice and just went with the option of automatically setting the iCloud accounts up and I haven't had anymore problems thus far - fingers crossed.
I do however note that my drop down box in account settings still says 'none' for the outgoing mail server and the 'use this server only' check box isn't ticked despite being ticked in the 'verify account' info on the tutorial, so hence my question to the community - did this matter and what was the difference?
I will let sleeping dogs lie I think and will see how I go.
    Many thanks for your help.

  • Mail 4.5 SMTP Server Rejecting Password for Outgoing Mail

I just set up Mail 4.5 and am receiving incoming mails but can't send out my emails. I get a message saying the SMTP server rejected the password. I know it's the correct password, have entered it a few times now. I'd appreciate any advice. thnx

    Hi Jan ...
From the Mail menu bar click Mail > Preferences then select the Accounts tab then the Account Information tab.
Select the account on the left.
Make sure the SMTP server is selected where you see:  Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
Quit then relaunch Mail to test.
If the correct server is already selected, open Keychain Access located in /Applications/Utilities
    Select Passwords on the left.
Use the search field top right corner of the window to find the email account. Then right or control click the keychain then click Delete.
Go back to the Account Information tab in Mail > Preferences. Type in the correct password. You should be prompted to save that password to a new keychain. Click Yes.

  • Cannot connect to an Exchange account in Outlook 2013 using "Microsoft Exchange Server or Compatible Service"

    Dear All,
I cannot connect to my Exchange account in Outlook 2013 using "Microsoft Exchange Server or Compatible Service".
    First I would like to present my network environment, I have 4 physical servers;
The first one is holding the Domain Controller 1, IP@: 192.168.1.10
The second server is holding the additional Domain Controller which it is DC2, IP@: 192.168.1.11
The third server is holding the Exchange 2013 Mailbox, IP@: 192.168.1.15
And the last server is holding the Exchange 2013 CAS-HT, IP@: 192.168.1.16
I am doing the steps below:
1-Creating a new profile in outlook and start configuring the exchange account by entering the IP address of the Exchange-CAS Server, 192.168.1.16
2-entering the account name: [email protected]
3-Go to "More Settings" > "Connection" > "Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP" > and entering the "Exchange Proxy Settings"
4-type the exchange CAS Server URL, https://192.168.1.16
5-Check the "Connect using SSL Only"
6-Authentication Settings: "NTLM Authentication", and pressing Apply
7-When I press the "Check Name" button, a message occurred> "The action cannot be completed. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action".
8-I go back to the "Exchange Proxy Settings" and I Uncheck the "Connect using SSL Only" and pressing Apply
9-i press the "Check Name" Button, a small window occurred to enter a Username and Password, so I enter the Administrator username and the administrator password and pressing "OK", but nothing is changed, I tried to enter my
username and password in the small window and I still got the same result.
I cannot verify the account name and I cannot complete the process.
    I appreciate you kind assistance.

    Hi,
To narrow down the cause, I’d like to recommend the following troubleshooting:
    1. Try to login the test account through OWA.
    2. Check the Autodiscover settings: get-clientaccessserver |fl autodiscoverserviceinternaluri
    3. Check the result of directly accessing the following URL:
    https://autodiscover.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
