Outgoing mail servers gone

All my email accounts got their outgoing mail server set to "none," and my smtp sever list is empty. How do I get them back? Help!
Mail still goes out from my iPad and iPhone.

No, they told me (among other less relevant things) that they could only help me if I pay them or that I could post my question in Apple support communities.
I don't understand: the list of outgoing mail servers is just emty, and I remember that it took me many weeks and phone calls to get it right when I got this laptop a little over a year ago. What dit I do wrong, and why won't Time Machine set it right again?
Apple Support also suggested to do a OS X Recovery, but than I was warned that it would erase all data from my laptop HD, and although I have Time Machine backups, this seemed too risky for such a futile problem. Can you help me, or do I have to call those awful internet service providers again?

A few days ago there was some trouble with Apple mail, and after that all my outgoing mail servers were gone, so I cannot send mail. (Receiving mail still goes fine.) Frustrating, because I don't know how to restore these outgoing mail servers or what caused the problem. My outgoing mail servers aren't working

Most of my outgoing mail servers, including one of my iCloud accounts, are not working. This has been an ongoing problem, and as I've gotten the error message, I've just redirected the outgoing message to use a reliable outgoing server.
Now, however, I've gotten a new computer, and the "reliable" outgoing server won't work anymore.
I've gone to every ISP's website and copied the settings exactly, but I'm getting the same error message on both of my computers, that the message could not send using ______ server.
On some of the ISP's message boards, I've seen the same issue from many Mac Mail.app users, but no satisfactory answers. (Most people just say, "you must have copied the settings wrong" and have no back-up answers if this isn't really the problem.)
Any thoughts? I hate using webmail!

I forgot to mention, I think, that this problem exists in Mail.app.
I just downloaded and tried to use Thunderbird, and the problem doesn't exist there!
This may be a temporary solution, although I prefer the Mail.app UI, where I can see all of the messages from every inbox in the same window.

Hotmail and Yahoo Incoming and Outgoing Mail Servers

Does anyone know what the incoming and outgoing mail servers are for hotmail and yahoo? I'm trying to put them into my mail account, and can't seem to figure out which one (pop or imap) to use.

If you are not using the paid (plus) accounts for Yahoo and Hotmail, they do not support access through email client applications like Mail, etc.
For Hotmail, you may have success with the HttpMail Plugin if your account is old enough.
For Yahoo-and Hotmail if it doesn't work with the plugin-you can use MacFreePOPs.

Did you follow the reinstall instructions?
To reinstall Mail, you must have a system installation disk. Here is the procedure for OS X 10.6, or 10.5.
1. Insert the Installation disk into the computer.
2. The disk will appear on the desktop.
3. Double click on the "Optional Installs" folder.
4. Double click on the "Optional Installs.mpkg."
5. Click on (Continue) in Introduction.
6. Click on (Continue) in Software License Agreement.
7. Click on (Agree) to agree to the terms of the software license agreement.
8. Click on the disclosure arrow ▶ next to Applications.
9. Select (✓) Mail.
10. Click (Continue).
11. After Mail has been reinstalled, download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1, for Snow Leopard or Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Updatefor Leopard to bring Mail up to the most recent version.

Multiple outgoing mail servers

Please,
Does anybody know if it is possible to visualize/change outgoing mail server instead of using preferences/accounts settings?
It would be nice to choose one of the outgoing mail servers in the new message window.
Any suggestion of mail-add on tools to facilitate this operation is welcome.

Unfortunately it is not what I am looking for. I would have the same work to do that: menu, run script, choose the server.
I am figuring out something like a toolbar icon or new message icon with an "outgoing server" dropping menu.
May be somebody know how to do that.

My outgoing mail servers will not connect now - ever sense the "cloud" launched I have had major issues! Is it the server names?

Did you have MobileMe before? If so, did you ever migrate to icloud? If not, then there's the problem - MobileMe has been terminated.
If you did, then did you ever remove your MobileMe account from your mail client? If not, then go into the mail program's preferences and delete that old account. Next add a new account for icloud using the old ID/password.

Why is mail erasing or resetting outgoing mail servers?

Yesterday morning, Mail had reset itself to have no outgoing mail servers. I manually reentered the outgoing mail server info, and Mail functioned properly until this morning. Today, Mail had reset the outgoin mail server onmy several email accounts to None--but it didn't "erase" the proper email servers' info. I've now manually changed the outgoing mail server for each of my email accounts, and Mail is functioning properly. I'd like to understand what's happenin and how to prevent the nuissance int he future. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Bill, I take it the Mac loses that info when logged out or restarted?
It sounds like your Main pref file is corrupted...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
Trouble is it holds almost everything, not sure if you'd like to quit Mail trash that file & setup Mail all over again, or if it'd be better to try trashing it once Mail is up & running & have it attempt to rebuild that file from what is in memory.
Do you have any backups of that file?

How to change my password and my incoming and outgoing mail servers

Hi I have used Outlook Express for years and I know how to configure "everything" I need within the settings pages because their settings pages are all "logical" with everything out in the open.
However, Thunderbird "hides" their settings behind buttons and confusing screens.
There are many tutorials that explain how to set up Thunderbird from the beginning, and show how to set up a new email account. But I have not been able to find a tutorial on how to change my email account password "after" I have been using Thunderbird for awhile.
I also see no way to change the incoming and outgoing servers. For example, I have changed from one hosting company to another hosting company and I need to use the new mail servers from the new hosting company and I do not see any tutorials anyplace that cover ongoing or day-to-day activities with Thunderbird.
Can you please change your settings screens to make Thunderbird easier for new people to find these normal and necessary items?
Also can you please point me to a tutorial that shows me how to change my email account password and change my incoming and outgoing servers?

If you wan to create an account, you must the delete the existing account.
So take backup of your emails if your using POP3

Trouble with all outgoing mail servers

Was there an update that would have knocked out my ability to send outgoing mail? I can still receive mail from gmail.com, live.com and a business email account that had all been working fine till about a week ago. I had not made any changes, but have since changed the outgoing port to 587, to no avail. I have also tried to Repair Disk Permissions using the Disk Utility. However, I still am not able to get the smtp servers to connect.
Any ideas?

I have cleared my outbox and resent a test email from one account to the other, which I know is receiving emails. I am using the Apple Mail application, which had been working just fine with all 3 accounts for the past 2 years.

You can delete the servers in Mail
Preferences -> Accounts
Pick any account and select the outgoing mail server drop down box.
At the bottom is Edit Server List
Choose the account you want to remove, then click remove server.

HT4519 Calendar from additional outgoing mail servers

I have an outlook account for work and I am unable to get the calendar assoicated with this email account to show on my Iphone. I've had no problem sending and receiving mail from this account the option of a calendar is just not there. How do I get it to show on my phone?

Outgoing Mail Servers HELP!

Ever since I first purchased my POP accounts and web hosting with 123 Reg, I have only ever been able to send out emails when I am connected to my home service provider; Tiscali. I have the outgoing smtp set to smtp.tiscali.co.uk and this works perfectly whilst I am connected at home. As soon as I wish to work remotely from other wifi networks I can no longer send emails using Mail application I have to work through webmail. The same goes for my iphone, this too cannot send out only retrieve incoming. This is ridiculous! What is the point in having devices that cannot be used as they are intended? Is there a universal outgoing mail server I can use that will always work as neither tiscali nor 123 reg will resolve this issue for me. Thanks

Hi Natasha, and a warm welcome to the forums!
No idea what is available in the UK, but here, the little ones generally allow that, but the bigger ones do not generally accept outgoing Mail to their Server from another ISP... to cut down on SPAM.
My little one here does in the USA, might even try it yourself, Dial-up account with 5 eMail addies, online storage, etc., $5 per month by the year, 30 day money back guarantee...
