  • Mac Mail  . . . Outgoing Mail Server shows all as (Offline)

Frustrating problem: I had to reconfigure Mail because it wasn't working.
My incoming works fine, but the outgoing doesn't. It shows any server as (Offline). Under 'Mail" on the menu bar 'Take All Accounts Online' is selected and dimmed.
ISP is ATT Yahoo, and both incoming and outgoing mail works fine when accessing email through my browser (Safari).
Any ideas on what to do?
    Many thanks,
    Ed in Dallas

    Hey Ed,
First thing is to check what the Connection Doctor is saying under the Window menu.
It'll take a few seconds but it should give you a good idea of the problem.
If you are selectiing using SSL, check if the provider offers this service.
If you don't know or can't find it use Applications->Utilities->Network Utility.
Then select Port Scan and enter the smtp.address.com of the service.
This will tell you for definite if the SSL service is offered.
I usually find that you get the Offline message if your service provider doesn't
offer the SSL service. Keep the setup simple and if it works then make it more
    complicated.

  • All Mail outgoing server are offline

All of my outgoing mail servers are claiming to be offline. The connection doctor says that they are connected to the server with no problem, but I can't send any outgoing mail. I can receive mail, but cannot respond.
    please help!

Just called apple support (no wait on hold! Once again, really good customer service...) and wouldn't you know it, while I was talking to the support staff, I fixed the problem myself. Then the mail specialist got online and told me to do something similar to what I had done. Here's the fix. Try THEIRS first:
Mine: Go to finder - home -- library -- preferences.
Find the file called "com.apple.mail.plist" and drag it to the trash and empty trash. Restart mail. You will have to re-enter all your account info and all your mail on your server will have to be downloaded again. I use IMAP and everything is stored, so that wasn't a big deal for me. Once I re-entered all the account info, outgoing worked again.
THEIRS: In preferences, open a new account (use the + sign in the accounts pane in "Preferences"). Give it a different name but put in all your info. See if it works. If it does, delete the other account.
Theirs is a little safer, I guess. Make sure you back up messages, though.
    Good luck.

  • I have two email accounts on my MacBook Pro and iPhone.  My iPhone continues to send messages from either account that I choose.  My MacBook says that one of my email account outgoing mail servers is Offline?  How can I get that working again?

I have two email accounts on my MacBook Pro and iPhone that I have been using for a few years.  My phone works perfectly for both accounts.  Now one of my email accounts on the MacBook says the outgoing server is Offline?  How can I fix that so that both accounts send and receive email.  I have tried various things in settings but nothing seems to work.

  • TS1307 my "outgoing Mail server is offline and I can't get it back online

I can send  and receive emails from my iphone, ipad and online mac account, but can not send emails on my mail from my macbook, it stopped working suddenly a few weeks ago and says all my outgoing smtp's are offline, how do i get them back online?

Thanks so much for the quick response.
I did repair permissions and tried Mail again, then decided to double check the Mail Prefs of my MB Pro (where Mail works fine) and the iMac (G5 I think?).  And do I feel stupid:  the outgoing mail server on the iMac was smtp.mac.com whereas the server on the MB Pro was smtp.me.com!  So I changed that and now Mail can be sent from the iMac.
Thanks so much, I love these forums.  Whenever I have a problem, I check the forums first!
    Cheers,

  • HT1277 how do you connect your outgoing mail, it says its constantly offline

I have tried disconnecting and connecting my mail account a number of times and everytime i have tried to do this the outgoing server says its offline.
How do i get it to stay online?
    Thanks

If the mail works for a while and then drops off, that's usually a problem with the network connection somewhere between the Mac and the mail server.   Could be a flaky WiFi, or a bad cable, a bad modem or a problem further along in the wiring to your ISP.  WiFi in villages and cities can encounter interference, for instance, and moving to a 5 GHz connection (if your equipment supports it) can help.  ISP connections can be flaky and drop.
If your mail is offline solidly and this is not a transitory problem, then there's usually problem with the username, password, port or server name settings, or a connection has switched to requiring SSL/TLS.  To test a connection that's entirely offline, use the Connection Doctor tool within Mail.app.  (Window > Connection Doctor)
Verify your credentials with your ISP web mail interface, if your ISP offers that.
There are two parts to a mail connection.  The incoming connection (usually POP or IMAP) that receives mail from the mail server, and the outgoing connection (SMTP or ESMTP) that sends the mail to the server.  Mail.app "hides" the latter settings; you have to select the "edit server list" option to get to the SMTP mail server configuration.  Check those against your particular ISP's requirements; you'll have to search for thiose.
If you're using a major ISP provider, post the name of the ISP, and somebody might be able to locate those mail server settings for you.  (Verizon is apparently rolling out a change to their settings, for instance.)
Apple offers a web-based email setup assistant that might help determine the settings, too.  That can help if you remove the existing account and re-add it, too.

  • Why has mail suddenly started saying that my outgoing mail server is offline?

Why has mail suddenly started saying that my outgoing mail server is offline?
I can receive mail from my ISP using Apple Mail but as of this morning I can't send via my ISP.
When I check Mail preferences, they say that my ISP's outgoing mail server is "offline".
I haven't changed any settings, so  what's gone wrong? I need a fix. At the moment I'm having to use Gmail.

If your email is hosted by Google then there are several known issues with Apple Mail under Mavericks accessing Gmail.  Using a web browser is a good backup.  In Apple Mail you can goto the menubar, choose Mailbox and choose take all accounts offline.  Then bring them back online.  Worst case you may need to delete and readd the account (usually if something was setup wrong) Menu bar - Mail > Accounts.
If you have turned on 2 step Google Authentication then you'll need to issue a specific email password for Apple Mail to use to bypass authentication.  Google the steps.
Best of luck in getting your mail server online.  Hopefully you can specify multiple servers in settings.

  • My outgoing mail server is always offline...

I am having a nightmare with mac mail.
It has worked fine for months since started using it and for past few weeks I've been unable to send mails from the account.
It says the outgoing acct is offline.
I have rekeyed in and checked preferences and tried numerous alternatives on ports and stuff [under guidance of cleverer people than me]
I have reset my BT Home Hub. I have tried under IMAP and POP and still no mails out.
Incoming is fine and outgoing works fine when I am on someone else's [anyone else's] wi-fi...
So I expect this is something specific to do with my mac and my router... but no idea what to do?
    ANy advice really gratefully received...
I just upgraded from Leopard to Mountain Lion on off chance it would sort it... it didn't!
    Thanks
