  • Mail: "outgoing mail server (smtp)" not being saved

    In Mail settings I have a default "outgoing mail server (smtp)" selected, but when I go to send mail, it changes to 'gmail'
    How can I get it to work the way it's supposed to.
    It's worked correctly for ever, but exhibited this new behavior recently.

    I think I have the same problem without Exchange involved. I have seven different email accounts and two of them are acting like you describe: changes like deleting doesn't reflect on other clients (like mobile phone email client and webmail).
    This also happens with read emails showing up unread so that if the email is been read and deleted same message can appear as new and when that message is deleted I can see two separate items of that same email message.
    Also all marks of reply, forward or flagged are gone when the email show up as new again.
    My service provider said that updates to Mail.app have previously made some big changes to way how it acts with email servers and thought that Mail is misbehaving with my two email systems.
    I am using IMAP protocol with all accounts.
    Thanks for any info and help!

  • Outgoing mail sever (SMTP) problem

    In the Accounts section of preferences, I have set up two Outgoing Mail Servers (SMTP), one for home (smtp.tiscali.co.uk) and one for work (mail.btinternet.com).
    Sending mail from home is okay.
    When I try and send mail from the office, I receive an error message as Mail cannot use smtp.tiscali.co.uk - which is fine. But, the drop-down menu "Send message using:" only contains a single item - the Tiscali server - not the BTInternet server.
    Any help?

    It's probable that Mail already tried the BTinternet server and failed which is why it only shows the Tiscali server as an alternative.
    As far as I'm aware this issue is peculiar to BTinternet. They are very picky about relaying email. Every other ISP I've come across will relay mail as long as you are connected to their network. However with BTinternet, if you are trying to send from a domain which isn't explicitly registered with them for sending email (which I believe they charge a fee for) they won't send it. E.g. if you are trying to send an email from your Tiscali address through BTinternet when you are at work.
    My advice would be to change your work ISP (if that's within your control. BT really do provide a poor service compared with most other ISP's.)
    You may be able to get the Tiscali server to send by enabling authentication on the Tiscali SMTP server in your Account settings and putting in your Tiscali username and password.
    There is one other way, but I'm afraid can't divulge it in a public discussion forum.

  • How can I attach a pdf file to outgoing mail without it opening up within the message?

    How can I attach a pdf file to outgoing mail without in opening up within the message?

    You can use the Share button on Preview's toolbar. Choosing Email pops open Mail with the PDF already iconified as an attachment. If it doesn't behave this nicely for you, select the PDF in Mail and choose the right contextual menu, where you will find View as Icon. I also have Send Windows-Friendly attachments enabled.

  • Problems sending mail: some problem with the outgoing mail server SMTP?

    I can't send e mails: some problem with the outgoing mail server SMTP?

    I had this same problem with both my imac and mac book pro using hotmail via mac mail with bt as my internet provider. Suddenly 4 months ago out of nowhere i could receive emails but could not send them. I scoured all the threads followed all the fixes none of them worked. However I just phoned apple support and fixed it in a matter of minutes. I am SO happy. This is what the technician advised me:
    Go to your apple icon and scroll down to system preferences. Then dependant on what machine you have it is different for my imac and mac book pro click on either air port/wifi then the advanced tab in the bottom right hand corner. Then click on the DNS tab. Hit the + sign on the left hand side and type in 8.8.8.8 then hit the + sign again on the left hand side it will create a new line underneathe and type 8.8.4.4 then hit okay on the bottom right and then hit apply, again on the bottom right. Then send a test email to check but it should be fixed.
    Had to share this. Its been driving me mad for months.

  • TS4002 How do you re-establish the outgoing mail server (SMTP)?

    I am trying to re-establish my outgoing mail server (smtp).  I can receive mail, but can't send any out.  I have tried all the listed options in the pull-down, but just can't make any of it work.

    If you are setting this up on your Mac using Snow Leopard, see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5330.  The outgoing mail server is smtp.me.com.

  • Outgoing Mail Server(SMTP)

    Does anyone know what the host name for the outgoing mail server is suppose to be, right now I have it listed as smtp1.attglobal.net, but it's saying cannot send out mail the connection to the outgoing server smtp1.attglobal.net failed. Can anyone give me the correct outgoing server.
    Jeff

    Try this first:
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/mailhelper/
    The Outgoing mail server depends on who your email provider is. You can usually get information on the provider's web site for settings, or check the settings on your computer; they will generally be the same. HOWEVER, if your ISP is your email provider they may not allow use of their outgoing mail server unless you are connected to their network. In this case you would be able to send mail connected to your home wireless network, but no from other wireless networks or using EDGE on the phone.
    If this is your situation you have several options:
    1. For EDGE use only, use cwmx.com as the outgoing mail server, no user id or password. This will not work when connected via a WiFi network.
    2. Create a gmail account and use their server; this requires user id and password.
    3. Us a paid SMTP site (e.g., godaddy.com)

  • Can I use iOS mail without SMTP?

    Greetings,
    I am using iPhone 5s and iPad Mini, both with iOS 8.3.
    My question is this: Can I use something other than the iCloud SMTP server in order to use the native iOS mail app on my iPhone and iPad? (i.e. [email protected])
    I work for a public company that offers free wifi to its customers. Our IT staff blocks email over SMTP so that people can't come in and use our wifi to send spam/junk mail through our servers. I have Gmail and Yahoo addresses that I would like to condense into my one iOS address. But since I spend a majority of my day at work, I am not able to send or receive messages due to the SMTP blockage. This does not affect iCloud.com which is accessed through a hard wired connection on my desk, but I am not always at my desk, hence the need for iOS mail portability.
    I've checked online for an answer and can't seem to find one. I was told by our IT staff to configure the mail setting to go through a cloud server instead of SMTP but I don't know if that's possible.
    I would appreciate any information or insight you can offer.
    Thanks and best wishes,
    -Jason

    You do not get to pick which servers to use when you subscribe to someone else's email service. Gmail, Apple, Yahoo, AOL, Hotmail, MS Live all use SMTP to send from their user accounts.  You can use any of those systems with the iOS mail app, but they all use SMTP relay to send from your device to their internal mail sending system (which may not use SMTP, but the only way for you to get an outgoing mail into their system is to use SMTP). If your company blocks all SMTP traffic, then you'll never be able to send from a subscriber email service on a wifi device with a dynamic IP.
    You also cannot "condense" (whatever that means - merge?) any other proprietary email service you use (like Gmail or Yahoo) with another proprietary email service like Apple's. These are separate services run by independent companies.
    You should be able to use your browser to use Gmail or Yahoo or another service via their web interface though. When logged in via the web page, you are not sending mail from your device at all, but directly from the service providers system.

  • Outgoing mail to SMTP server on Port 25 that requires authentication.

    I am not able to send email from my Droid X to company email smtp server. Anyone have any ideas. It is desirable to send email to clients from my company server.

    Do you have the $29.99 unlimited e-mail/ data plan?  The Corporate E-mail Feature is $44.99 monthly access and includes unlimited data transport for e-mail, web browsing and app usage. This service is designed for those who need access to their corporate e-mail and intranet, which seems to be what you need if you need to use your company server.  This feature can be changed via My Verizon or by calling Customer Service at 800-922-0204.

    Example
    The following example shows how to send an e-mail through an SMTP server that requires authentication server over the network by providing credentials in clear-text.
    using System;
    using System.Web.Mail;
    namespace SMTPAuthentication
    public class SMTPAuthenticationExample
      public static void SendMail()
       string smtpServer = "smtp.domain.com";
       string userName = "johnDoe";
       string password = "pass";
       int cdoBasic = 1;
       int cdoSendUsingPort = 2;
       MailMessage msg = new MailMessage();
       if (userName.Length > 0)
        msg.Fields.Add("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/smtpserver", smtpServer);
        msg.Fields.Add("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/smtpserverport", 25) ;
        msg.Fields.Add("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/sendusing", cdoSendUsingPort) ;
        msg.Fields.Add("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/smtpauthenticate", cdoBasic);
        msg.Fields.Add("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/sendusername", userName);
        msg.Fields.Add("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/sendpassword", password);
       msg.To = "[email protected]";
       msg.From = "[email protected]";
       msg.Subject = "Subject";
       msg.Body = "Message";
       SmtpMail.SmtpServer = smtpServer;

  • Mailing without SMTP-Server

    Hello Forum,
    in the cf8-Administrator I can configure a SMTP-Server with
    Username and Password for sending Mails via CF.
    Is there a way to connect to a simple Mail-Account with
    pop..... and smtp.... , because I don't want to administrate a
    mailserver on my webserver.
    Or do you now a free (or cheap) mailserver-provider, which I
    can configure with: smtp-server-name,etc.
    Thank you for any help!
    uwe

    Solution:
    Sorry for asking such a stupid question!!!
    I don't need a complete Mailserver. I have filled in the
    smtp-Server-address, accountname and password of my
    personal-mailbox at my provider.
    IT WORKS!

  • Cannot find outgoing mail server (smtp) for my email account.

    I am trying to set up my college email account and cannot find the smtp sever. I contacted IT at my school and they said they had no idea what I was talking about... I know that it uses microsoft outlook.. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could find the server. (I did however find the mailgate and entered my username and password)

    johnnyg713,
    It sounds like your school might be utilizing an Exchange server. You may want to ask if it is possible to access the server via IMAP, and if so what to use for incoming and outgoing server settings.
    This article has more information on setting up email on the iPhone:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305882
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.
