Outgoing POP email on HTC Incredible

I am getting a "server not responding" error when trying to set up outgoing mail server on my POP.
I have verified the settings with my ISP provider, but still getting the error.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Anything unique about the HTC Incredible and using POP email with Verizon?
Please help!
Thanks.

jgs....that's what vzn initially told me too. they said that cox did not allow sending through their network except from the device that you actually set up with them (usually your home pc) for spam prevention reasons. i actually went so far as to set up a dummy hotmail account, just to use the uotgoing server settings. so i had cox incoming and the hotmail outgoing (but i named the account on my phone with my cox email so it appeared it was coming from my cox email). that worked except that the email app changes the username and password on the outgoing to match the incoming every time you close it (it assumes you are using the same account). so i could send this way, but had to manually put in my outgong hotmail info each time. then i found the correct cox outgoing (or at least, it's worked so far). unless cox is set up differently in different regions, you should be able to do it.

  • CANNOT SEE EMAILS WITH EMBEDDED LINKS ON MY HTC INCREDIBLE

I recently linked my Outlook account through a POP3 on my HTC Incredible.  For some reason I'm not able to view messages with embedded links in the body of the email or the senders signature.  For example - If someone sends me an email and they have a FB icon embeded in their signature, I'm unable to view the email.  I can see who it's coming from but cannot see the text in the body of the email.  Does anyone have any work throughs for this issue?  Thanks!

    Hello,
Please try the troubleshooting step provided below:
Touch the Email icon from the Home Screen.
    Touch Mail size limit option.
    Touch No limit.

  • Htc incredible & comcast email notification

I just got the HTC incredible.  My question is that when I am at work I have the phone on vibrate. After 1 minute the screen goes into the sleep mode.  How do I get the phone to alert me (via flashing green light and vibration) when I receive an email.  My carrier is comcast.  It seems as though I have to unlock the phone every 15 minutes to get the notification.  Shouldn't I be alerted even when the phone is in sleep mode?  I do get text notifications when the phone is in sleep mode.  Just an FYI if the email is sent to the gmail account the notification works in the sleep mode, for some reason it just doesn't work for the comcast account. Thanks

I would call comcast on that one.  They will more thna likely have you login to your email via internet explorer.  They will have forward mail options, but the only thing is how there's works.  They may have a forward all mail option as opposed to store and forward.  If they do the first that means you will get your mail through your gmail account only and then it deletes it off their server.
Now you can also setup gmail to download pop3 email directly.  Logo on to your gmail account via internet explorer.  Click on "Settings" located in the upper right hand corner. Then click on the "Accounts and Import" tab.  Goto the "Check mail using POP3:" section and click on "add POP3 email account"  You will need the settings from comcast you used to setup on your phone email application.  I haven't added it this way because I own my email server so I could do it on mine with no problem how I wanted.  How ever, there should be an option to leave the email on the server.  Select that, you may have to search for that one.
I have a total of 4 different emails I access on my phone, 3 of the 4 I access through my gmail by having two of them forwarded.  Then I have a lotus email from work and I have an app for that.
Hope the above helps you get setup.  If you get tuck on a page, post a note here and I will get it.

Here is a link to basic setup instructions for gmail access to pop3 accounts:

There is the option about leaving the email on their server on the above link under "Leave a copy of retrieved messages on the server"  section.  It tells you what to do there.

  • Slow outgoing Pop mail with Lion- is anyone else having this problem?  Email without attachments can take 10 minutes or more to go.

Outgoing pop mail is very slow - at times 10 - 20 minutes and more, even on messges with no attachments.  This has happened since my upgrade to Lion.  My DSL line tests out ok, but Apple says it must be a slow line.  Any one else have problems?

POP is only used for incoming mail.   Some POP servers are the same as SMTP servers.
Check to make sure your internet service provider can either give you an SMTP server, or that you are using password authentication to get to an outside line with the proper port.  Outside SMTP servers are often on one of the  ports 587, 2626, 2662, and often use your full e-mail address for username authentication.

  • HTC Incredible reboot fix that works and does NOT require hard reset

Like many of you unfortunate souls out there I have had my HTC Incredible go into a rebooting loop over the last month or so. The following recounts some observations and and a solution which appears to work.
First off, my son and I both have the same phone and software versions and apps. He does NOT get email on his phone because he does not want to. I do. His phone has NEVER rebooted. Mine has done so numerous times. My business partner also has the identical phone and software version, lives within 200 yards of me,  and uses the email and has had numerous reboots and has gotten them even sooner than I saw them at first. My partner and I have set up email attachments and downloads to go to the SD card. So much for background info. Here is what I did to fix the problem followed by some other observations:
Open up the case of the phone and remove the battery
Remove the SD card from the phone.
Put it into an adapter that allows you to access files directly on your computer. In my case this was a Windows PC running Windows 7.
Mount the SD card in your computer and open up the browser to see the files on the SD card.
Look for a folder called ".Mail"
If your phone is like mine you will see hundreds of files, some of zero length. This was even though I had deleted most of the emails I received on my phone.
Proceed to directly delete any of the zero length files. For that matter, you may have other files like jpg's laying around of uncertain origin. I got rid of these and other strange files that seemed attached to no documents at all.
Remove the SD card and reinsert into your phone. Put the battery back in and the cover on then restart the phone. Your phone should run properly and you should not see any negative consequences from the files you deleted previously.
Some other observations relevant to this solution that bolsters my theory that this problem has something to do with the email application and also a problem with file system corruption on the SD card as a consequence of it.
I had previously seen the email application put some mail from a different account I was using into my main account. The files could not be deleted and even trying to do so would cause the mail app to force close.
My son has never seen the problem despite being in the same environment with the same phone and software. Relevant difference to me was that he was NOT using email and I was.
The email app clearly has bugs if it is leaving behind hundreds of files even if you delete the emails. Why? As a software engineer my first instinct would be to look to see if the file system locks were properly synchronized when the email app is writing to the flash file system. I am not conversant in Android OS programming nor the app code itself so this is speculative on my part. I would also look for a timeout on reboots if file system enumerations take too long. Lots of files on a system might trigger a premature timeout and reboot. Once again, this is speculative on my part but I sure wish I had the code to debug this myself.
These issues seem to coincide with a rapid rise in network traffic most likely because of the iPad 2/iPhone support by Verizon. I wonder if this additional traffic load on the network is opening up timing holes in the software because of backoff and retry intervals for certain apps. Once again I suspect the email app especially because it is vulnerable to network traffic issues as it tries to get email account updates.
I could be wrong about my theory as to why the problem is happening. My solution seems to work. As far as pulling the battery and putting it near your AC in the car, that did NOT work for me at all. Leaving the phone out of its protective case also had no effect. Only screwing with the files on the SD card mattered.
    I hope this helps.

This problem has been seen for MONTHS now by people besides myself. My business partner is about to put a bullet in his phone because this has been happening for far longer than mine. I have little confidence in a fix anytime soon because this problem has been persistent for some time and there is a lot of denial in the field by Verizon. Verizon has to depend on HTC and Google besides themselves for fixes. How much would you like to wager on how this business relationship is working out? The first step in any solution is for a company to take some responsibility for it and so far no company has.

  • The Skinny on IMAP vs POP Email and work arounds

It took me a while to figure out email so I figured I'd share what I've learned so far.  Do feel free to reply with more useful tips for us all if anyone has some.
First email accounts are either IMAP or POP and the first step was figuring out the difference:
    IMAP
       Mirror of the server
What is done one place is done everywhere because you are looking at the server.
Advantage: can access email from multiple devices/locations
Disadvantage: May have to mark as read individually when adding to a new device
    POP
       Independent of the server
What is done one place stays that place because you have moved it from the server.
Advantage: once it's delivered the mail can be viewed offline
Disadvantage: where ever it is delivered once, the other divices do no have access to the mail
Think of the server as a huge mailbox as big as a room!
       IMAP
With IMAP the mail stays in the mailbox until you delete it permenently,
but once it is deleted it has moved out of the main part of the huge mailbox into the trash can in the room of the huge mailbox (the trash folder settings decide when the trash gets taken out and deleted permenently) when deleted permenently it is no longer in the trash can in the huge mailbox it has been taken out the the dump.
If you read it then it's like opening the mail but leaving it in the huge mailbox.
If you move it to another folder then it's like moving it to the desk in the room but still in the mailbox.
       POP
With POP the mail is taken out of the mailbox and moved to the computer (in the other room)
Once you request/download your mail it is taken off of the server and whatever is done with the mail the server no longer has access to it
If you read it (or move it to a folder) it is the same thing as Mom taking the mail out of the huge mailbox and putting it in the car, if Dad checks the mailbox the mail may have been delivered by Dad is not going to find it because it is no longer in the mailbox it is with Mom in the car.
Here a link that helped me figure it out:
    http://www.office.mvps.org/glossary/pop_imap.html
So after you decide wether you want to use IMAP or POP which email carrier is which?
    Microsoft Exchange is IMAP
    MobileMe is IMAP
    Yahoo! mail is IMAP
    Hotmail is IMAP
Gmail is IMAP can be set up as POP
         see here for that:  https://discussions.apple.com/message/8149520#8149520
~Most web-based email is IMAP (if it is designed to be accessed via the web by ANY computer it's likely IMAP)
         settings for incomming/outgoing servers:   http://www.emailaddressmanager.com/tips/mail-settings.html
AOL is POP can be set up as IMAP (origanally intended to be used with only one computer via the ISP)
see here for that: http://email.about.com/od/aoltips/qt/Access_an_AOL_Email_Account_with_any_POP_IM AP_Email_Program.htm
    Comcast is POP
    Qwest is POP
    Earthlink is POP
~Most ISP (internet service providers) email from a cable/internet company of a business specific email is a POP account
Use this chart HT1277 ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1277 ) for contacting your service provider or IT department to acquire the proper settings for your email account!
Finally, as promised, work around for your email:
If you only have access to a POP email account and it won't work on your iPhone or want it to act like an IMAP account, then follow these steps~
    1)   Get a free IMAP email account (using Gmail for this example)
    2)  Sign in to your Gmail account
    3)  Click the gear icon in the upper-right
    4)  Select Gmail settings
    5)  Select the Accounts and Import tab
    6)  Under Send mail as, click Add another email address
    7)  In the 'Email address' field, Enter your name and alternate email address (ie the POP address)
    8)  Choose use Gmail's servers to send your mail
    9)  Click Next Step>>
    10) Click Send Verification
(Gmail will send a verification message to your alternate email address to confirm that you own it)
    11) Open your other account and click the link in the message Gmail sent
    12) Add your new Gmail account to your iphone
You will be able to send, receive, reply, forward, delete, and manage folders of your other address through your Gmail address on your phone and it will appear to the recipients as though it came from your other address.

Allan, I have run into questions in this area recently since I got my iPhone. I have a long time Charter ISP POP email account which I've accessed with Apple Mail. This has worked fine. I also have a Yahoo web based account which I've also used separately.
Now when I set up my Yahoo account on my iPhone it worked great. But when I set up the Charter account it resulted in an IMAP account with incoming and outgoing servers being mobile.charter.net. Charter website implies that all email accounts on all mobile devices must be set up like this. My question is whether I can, or should, try to set up the account manually as a POP on my iPhone so it will behave similarly to the Charter POP account in my iMac?
I've run into some conflicts after using my iPhone to access my Charter email. My inbox on my desktop iMac in Apple Mail will give me the message that another client is accessing the email account when I try to get new mail soon after my iPhone has been accessing the Charter account. I've wondered whether this is a conflict between IMAP and POP?
    Confusing. Thanks.
    Steve M.

  • I cannot add a new pop email account in my "iphone 6"

I cannot add a new pop email account in my iphone, when i confirmed "saving account" it is automatically being closed and kick-out me from?
It is iPhone 6 and the system is iOS 8.1
I am going to select "Others" and then my user name, password and "next".
Then IMAP and POP settings screen is coming. I am going to select "POP" with my incoming and outgoing server details.
And finally I am going to proceed with "save".... So... pupff........ it is going, closing, kicking me out. Maybe 20-25 times since yesterday I try it but no win.
What should I do for these my friends. This is my business email... It was working before in iPhone 5s and afte iPhone 6 I make reset for 5s.
I try later on for 5s again. It make me the same thing also. They are not allowing me to add a new pop email address.

    Is it your own domain?
Have you tried setting up as Exchange?

  • Making POP email not authenticate outbound

I'm trying to get my iPhone to work with my company's POP email server. I can get email fine; can't send. When I try to send I get this error:
    'Cannot Send Mail
The SMTP server 'mymailservername.com' doesn't support authentication. Please check your account settings and try again.'
When I set up the account, under Advanced, iPhone defaults to Authenicating by Password, which is the third option in the list below:
    MD5 Challenge-Response,
    NTLM, and
    Password (checked)
I looked at the email setup for the same account on my Treo 650 and the box re authenticating for (Incoming) Use Authentication (APOP) is unchecked, as is the (Outgoing) Use Authentication (ESMTP).
I've tried to set Advanced>Authentication to both of the other options, but when I do I get the same error but when I go look at the settings, it has Password selected, not either of the other two options I tried changing it to...
Any ideas on how to make this work???
    Thanks

Don't think the company POP server is the issue; it works fine with my Treo... I also can check mail via a browser-based webmail URL.
Re EDGE or WiFi, I think it depends on whether there is Wifi where I am, and also (based on posts I've seen) whether iPhone 'tries' EDGE or WiFi first (the posts I'm referring to say that iPhone uses EDGE sometimes even when there is an available WiFi connection, which makes no sense since WiFi is much faster. I've been at home a number of times where I have WiFi that iPhone is set up to use and I've seen it connecting and running very slow via EDGE--makes no sense but it seems to happen to others too).
Will the cwcx.com approach just work via EDGE? Seems like we'd all really prefer to use WiFi when available assuming the issue above gets worked out. That's the only reason I'm hesitant to use this approach...
My treo has port 25 for the Outgoing mail server--is that a standard port? I just tried putting ':25' at the end of the Outbound server address and that didn't fix anything...
    Thanks

  • Problems with IPhone 4S and pop email

    Hi
I'd be very grateful if someone here is able to help me
I recently bought an IPhone 4S and am having problems with the two pop email accounts I need to put on it.
When I use these settings below (sent to me by my web hosting company) I get the message
The POP server "mail.myemailaddress.com" is not responding. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the "Incoming Mail Server" field
When I try and send out emails I get the message
    Cannot Send Mail
The connection to the outgoing server "smtp.myemailaddress.com" failed
    I've also had the message
    CANNOT SEND MAIL
a copy has been placed in your outbox. The recipient (email address) was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying.
    Settings I've put in are
    Pop Account
    Incoming mail server
    Host name  mail.myemailaddress
    User name  my email address
    Password    my password
    Outgoing
    SMTP smtp.myemailaddress
    Advanced
    Use SSL off
    authentication - password
    server port 25
I've also tried using port 26, port 110 and port 995 with SSL enabled and no luck with any of them
I've contacted my web hosting comapny but they can't help so anyting suggested here will be very gratefully received

Some folks think the problem is due to poor solder connections of the WiFi chip on the card. Heating may expand the joints to cause temporary connectivity. The chip itself could be of low tolerance, and the iOS update causes it to fail the threshold. If you have tried the software resets, then the cure is to reflow the solder of the chip to the WiFi card, or to replace the WiFi card. Apple will not "own" this problem, even though it seems to be widespread. Apple offers to renew your contract for a new iPhone at $199. Certain repair shops will tackle this problem, although many local shops will not. In the US try iFix Miami Beach. See them on eBay <http://www.ebay.com/itm/iPhone-4S-Grayed-Out-Wifi-Wireless-Fix-Repair-Service-Tr usted-Specialists-/161160765436?ssPageName=ADME:L:OU:US:1120> for a $69 fix. They fixed my iPhone 4S and returned within a week (even over the Memorial Day holiday weekend). In Europe, I have read about, but have not tried PodMod <http://www.podmod.org>

  • "Outgoing" - only, Email problem ..

    -
    hello.
Just got off the phone with "Earthlink".
Had had a problem (and still do - ultimately) with my "outgoing" - only, Email. / (send).
With "Earthlink" rep., .. found a minor mistake in my "SMTP" setting, .. adjusted for this mistake, .. but found a "repeated" request for my may account "password" upon trying to "send" - following.
(This with additionally, reverting to main "settings / Server settings", to re-enter all password fields. And, with the repeated password request popping up, additionally - subsequently, also after "Restarting".
A final check with "Earthlink", at (or going through) their main "Web-Mail" site, .. @ has shown, that "send" is in fact possible - where considering the (my) main email settings configuration, as it stands at this point.
So, .. the question that has come up - between the "Earthlink" rep. and myself / with all of this, has been whether or not "it may be" ...
    — (with my having recently entered all new information / and general settings -"more system wide" / with a recent complete re-installing of my computer's main OS) —
.. perhaps something that I may have done, more "Administratively", to have caused this block to my (own) outgoing mail.
Don't won't to destroy the mail that I accumulated - just recently.
So I'm "checking" in, here, before proceeding with what I might next.

    resolved.

  • Trouble setting up POP email account

I am trying to set up my POP email account on my iPhone and it is not recognizing the outgoing SMTP server. I have the settings correct. My mail server is mail.adelphia.net for both incoming and outgoing mail. Any suggestions?

update: decided just to change my password with the server when I realized that it was user error- the wrong password was in fact being typed in blush. So now I don't get the any errors. I guess it works, no email on the phone yet, but the computer is on with outlook running, and I do believe it takes the mail off the server when it downloads it- so I don't think there's mail there for the iPhone to see.
Now, do you think you could help me with another iPhone question I have? It's really simple. It deals with when I activated yesterday- I got booted out of the activation sequence due to an incoming call from some random person looking for the owner of the old number i'd JUST been assigned and had JUST gone active (I have a post on the board about it) and I didn't get to do anything that comes up on the iTunes screen after it gives you your phone number. Therefore, I didn't get to name my iPhone or sync with outlook. My two questions are these:
Can I still name the iPhone, or do I have to somehow reset it? And if I have to reset it- do I loose all the contacts I entered (they're not in outlook, they were in my other phone) or can I somehow sync to iTunes and have the contacts saved before restoring?
Next, the iPhone doesn't sync to Outlook (i have 2003 on Vista) at all. Because I was booted out of activation, I had to try a manual sync. I can get emails because that was just fixed, but it doesn't give me my contacts or calendar. The syncs for bookmarks off IE worked. I haven't tried a sync to transfer music and videos yet. Is there something I'm not doing right as to why it won't give me Outlook? I notice that there is only one Apple add-in running in outlook, and someone said something about needing two? Plus, Vista gives me an error that the Outlook sync server has quit every time I try to sync.
Can you help with any of that?

  • POP email iPad setup mystery and misery

Wow...it was easy on my macs and my iphone, but I've spent the better part of a day trying to create one successful POP email address on my iPad (for an existing account I use right at my desk) through my company server, with my ISP as secondary server. It begins with difficulties verifying at creation of account under "Other", then it asks if I want to try without SSL, I do, it can't verify, but I set up anyways, and then go to the settings and begin trying every darn possibility and variable under names, usernames, passwords, ports, etc. I swear I'd pay someone $100 bucks right about now to whisper the secret solution in my ear. I've deleted the account, started new, called my ISP liaison to verify their secondary server information, etc. It just shoudn't be this hard. I'm now in one of my every three years or so hating apple modes...a regular occurence since, well, 1984. Any thoughts or questions would be appreciated, and I'll feedback with settings, etc. It's gotta be one tiny little thing that I'm missing.

In case this will help anyone else with this issue.
Friendly folks at applecare helped walk me through what I'd been trying. Same setup attempts and settings were put in place. Same result. Then he suggested I go to work....and sync my e-mail accounts through iTunes. I did that after deleting all failed POP accounts I tried to set up, and deleting my outgoing POP servers on my iPad mail accounts settings.
Did that this morning. Went to my local bagel shop, hopped on WiFi. Bingo...all is well. So, in theory, my home wifi connection SHOULD have allowed me to set up new POP e-mail accounts. But I banged my head on that wall. And it didn't work.
So...if it helps. Sync through iTunes to set up existing POP email accounts you have, THEN join a wifi network and see if all is good, if you're having the trouble I experienced.

  • Can't download POP email from GMail - HELP!!!!

Just upgraded to a Macbook Pro from a 1.67Ghz G4 Powerbook.
I've set my Macbook up from scratch with a completely new install and no matter what I do I CANNOT get Mail to download my POP email from GMail.
I've deleted and completely reinstalled the account, set up a new user account and tried that, stopped the POP in GMail and renabled it and all I get is the lightning symbol for a problem with the account.
    Outgoing mail goes fine.
I'm tearing my hair out. I fired my Powerbook up and it worked fine so it's definitely something on here....

I'm embarassed to say that I had put the SMTP server port number in as the POP server port which explains why it didn't work.
After 3 years of supporting people using macs I should know better but it just shows that if you think you've done everything right you can stare straight past something....
Thanks for the help and sorry for being such a dimwit....
