Outgoing server constant issues (IMAP)

i constantly seem to have problems with my outgoing email servers and i can't seem to figure out whether i should be setting a SINGLE outgoing server for each email address and/or if this HAS to be the same listing as that for my WEBSITE BASED EMAIL or if i can do something like send email from my website based email (or my iCloud email address for instance) from a GMAIL outgoing server.
i mean, is there some explanation somewhere as to how to set these things for a GMAIL email address, a iCLOUD email address and for a WEBSITE based email address (i.e. [email protected])?
my email always gets hung up going out and there are enough settings for this section to make the ability to try and fix it on my own about to have about 4 factorial combination that i have to try to get it correct.
TIA

Hi,
How many IMAP accounts in the org?
Does this issue occur randomly, specific time or all the time?
I suggest upgrading to the latest version of Exchange 2007 for testing.
Also suggest collecting Event logs for the further troubleshooting.
Thanks

Im having massive issues with my email... I cant receive emails for my work email... was working perfectly and now just wont connect, i assume that I need to use my home wifi as the outgoing server?? Please help

For your work email, do you use a well known server or do you use their own server? Their server IMAP and SMTP addresses might of changed or you entered them in wrong. It might be something with your router but unless you blocked every incoming connection, then it should work. I would talk to your tech guys at work to see if it is on their end.
Hope this helped a bit, Sean

  • Compatibility issue with outgoing server; they suggest downloading Thunderbird.  Any suggestions?

My internet provider says there is a compatibility issue with outgoing server and suggest downloading Thunderbird.   Any comments?

Not without some details from you.
    What version of OSX
    Who is the mail provider
If not iCloud mail what type is it (POP or Imap)
    That's a start.

  • Gmail outgoing server issues with Apple Mail

    Hi,
I'm currently running OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion, and trying to set up my gmail account in Apple Mail. I can recieve mail just fine, but am not able to send mail. for the outgoing server i typed "smtp.gmail.com." When i look at the Mail Connection Doctor it says that the imap incoming was able to login in and connect, as well as the smtp is succeeding with its connection to the server. However I keep getting the message that says "cannot send message using the server smtp.gmail.com"
With the connection doctor window still up, upon trying to send my letter again, an error comes up...even though the connections are still good. The error reads:

If anybody knows what the problem is or how to fix it, I'd be greatly appreciative. In addition, I do have this account being fed to my phone, to which it can send/receive mail just fine.
    Thanks

By default Mail should enter all the correct setting for Gmail.
    It's asking for authentication.
    Select to Edit SMTP settings.
Select your Gmail account from the list.
    Click on Advanced.
√ Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
Gmail likes port 465 but Apple default to all ports.
Make sure your password is entered.
Use the Connection doctor to test your settings. You should see green lights to show your receiving and sending settings are correct. Click on Show Details if you see a red light.

  • Use Yahoo! Push IMAP and GMail Outgoing Server

Hi. I use GMail as my primary email account, but I really like the Yahoo push IMAP capability.
I have setup my gmail account to forward to my free yahoo account.
How can I setup my iPhone to check my yahoo account (with push imap) but when I send, to use the GMail SMTP server? I can't find the outgoing server setting when I setup the yahoo account on my phone.

Read the reply post carefully people.
There is no mention of a magical new Yahoo account shortcut.
The reply post states that the only short cut that exist is when you set up an e-mail account.
The big one with Yahoo on it, the one you all would have had to of used already.
In other words their is no magic way of doing what you want to do.

  • Godaddy outgoing server issues on MacBook!

I use godaddy for my comany's email.  I have a few employees and we are all having problems with the outgoing server.  Incoming is no problem but outgoing keeps timing out.  We are all using differenct ISPs.  I spent 2 hours on the phone with godaddy and they're telling me the issue is on my end.  Anyone else experiencing anything similar?  My IPhone and IPad are sending without issues but my MacBook Pro sends sporaradically.  One of my employees is having problems on his Mac Book and IPad. The workspace login site is funtioning fine.  I'm at the end of my rope!  Any suggestions?

This is not a Mac problem.
We use Windows and are having the same / similar problem(s) with godaddy email. We use the Thunderbird mail client and early October is when we first started noticing the problems (had been fine before that) .
SMTP outbound fails intermittently and error messaes indicate  the SMTP server cannot be found or similar message.  It has failed in the middle of an outgoing batch several times (when SMTP server has obviously been "found" - and sometimes it will complete the batch and leave one or two sitting in the outbound folder.  Changing port settings has no effect on this intermittent problem.
Godaddy says there is no problem and suggests we use Godaddy webmail instead of Thunderbird - which is not convenient since we simultaneously manage 10 or so mailboxes for different domains - and the Godaddy webmail interface has become very slow to load.  We do access webmail from android phones and, except for the slowness, the outbound from webmail does function. If we find a resolution we'll share here since this does not feel like an OS or ISP issue.

  • My phone keeps saying that the IMAP and the outgoing server are failing.

For the past 3 days it has been saying either my IMAP is failing or my outgoing server is failing. I don't know what to do and I need my emails for school. I have a 4s but I just recently updated and it seems like it all started after that. I have internet and my emails work on the computer so it has to be something with my phone itself.

When you updated the phone it may have erased your passwords. It will do that if you don't have your backup encrypted and you upgraded using iTunes on your computer. So go to Settings/mail,contacts,calendars and reënter the passwords for both incoming and outgoing mail.
If that doesn't resolve the problem you should delete the email account in Settings/mail,contacts,calendars. Then reset the phone by holding the HOME and SLEEP buttons until an Apple logo appears (you will not lose any data), and finally recreate the account.

  • Can't send emails - outgoing server issues

Randomly my phone won't let me send an email. It sits in the Outbox unsent and never sends.
But strangely I'm able to receive emails. I have 3 email accounts set up on my phone, I've never had a problem until now - Over the weekend I updated to iOS 7.0.2 this may have changed something in the settings....
When I go to send it's says "CANNOT SEND MAIL, CHECK THE ACCOUNT SETTINGS FOR THE OUTGOING SERVER" - I've checked the settings, but don't know what i'm looking for
    Can anyone assist?
    thanks
    VB

Mail keeps information about outgoing servers in a separate list, independently of any specific mail account. The account settings just associate one of the available outgoing servers with each account. Deleting an account doesn't remove the outgoing server from the list. Orphaned or dangling outgoing server entries (i.e. not associated with any account) sometimes cause sending problems, so you may want to fix that, even though it could very well have nothing to do with your problem -- actually, it could very well be that you don't have a problem, and this is just a transient error.
Go to Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), choose Edit Server List from the popup menu, and delete any servers that shouldn't be there. The Edit Server List sheet shows the account each outgoing server is associated with.
Alternatively, Mail comes with some scripts available under the Script menu when that menu is enabled. There is a Manage SMTP Servers there that finds any unused outgoing mail servers and gives you the option to delete them. Type "Script Menu" in Mail Help for more information on this feature.

  • Mail does not use correct outgoing server

    Problem
Mail in Mavericks (and also IOS6 snf 7) does not use the outgoing smtp server associated with the account being used. This results in either a failure to send or mail being put into the wrong "Sent" folder.
    Background
I have most of my non-icloud mail pulled down to a home server from which my laptops and ios devices access various accounts using imap. The local home server also provides smtp and relays all mail to my ISP. Recently I have been switching from an old home server (Mac Mini) to a new one (Raspberry pi running the debian Raspbian version with fetchmail,  Dovecot and postfix setup).
While making the changeover I had access to both the old server and the new server enabled on my laptop. Naturally the majority of the settings (Name, email address etc) were the same although the name and address of the server to be used for both incoming and outgoing mail were different. This seemed tp work fine for incoming. However when I tested outgoing mail the copy that should appear in the "sentt" box  went missing. This usually indicates some mistake in the setting of the sent mail folder on the accounts but this all checked out.
I eventually found the missing outgoing mail intended to go through the new server in the sent box on the old server. Further trials showed that no matter what I did the outgoing would always default to the old (and therefore first set up) outgoing server.
Deleting the old account and the old outgoing server of course should cure the problem and will eventually be the solution for me when I kill the old server. But i wanted to get to the bottom of the problem in case it reappeared in other contexts. Checking the "use only this server" box produced failure to send rather than the correct result.
Trialing various alterntaive settings showed that the problem occurs when there are two outgoing servers with the email address in the settings and the user name on the outgoing server name being the same. I had assumed that changing the description field would distinguish between the various settings; however this did not work. Changing the Name Field did work eg by putting (O) after my name.
It appears therefore that mail selects the outgoing server on the basis of email address (with the full name included) and user name (trrespective of the actual server or the Description that shows in the smtp server listing. In some ways this is logical but it produces problems in the context I have described and would also be a difficulty if you wanted to use an alternative server when in a different location.
I have trawled support and elsewhere for any thing similar. Lots of mail problems (don't get me started on the way icloud loses outgoing each time you edit the list!) but I have not found any posts on precisiely this point.
IOS devices seem to have similar problems, but a quick attempt at a similar solution does not work, and I cannot be bothered  to test the options. I will simply clean them out and put in the new accounts.
    Advice
Grateful for any comments or advice from people who have encountered similar problems and whether my diagnosis if correct. Have I missed any obvious corrections that would clear this up. I do not know whether this is a Mavericks issue or also appears in earlier OSX versions.

    Peter,
Where ever the Sent and Trash folders show in the Sidebar, highlight first one, and then the other, followed by clicking on Mailbox in the Menubar, and choosing Use This Mailbox For, and choose the function.
Keep us posted on your progress.

  • Gmail outgoing server problems

I am currently experiencing gmail outbox issues that have only popped up recently. It is also happening to another person I know of.
Is anyone else finding the "failed to send smtp.gmail.com" coming up more often lately??? Is there something going on?

I'm not having any problem with Gmail at all.
What are the specific Incoming and Outgoing server settings for that Gmail account, and what is the exact text of the error message you get, if any? Is this a POP or IMAP account? When did this start happening and what did you do just prior to this problem starting?

  • Yahoo mail can't send - Outgoing server "(null)" failed

I can not send ONLY from MY Yahoo email address. When I try to send a message is says "Outgoing Server '(null)' failed."
I have tried changing my password to one without numbers or characters, deleting the account and re-adding, restoring the iPhone. Nothing.
Here is the wierd thing: any other Yahoo account works just fine. My wifes yahoo address works perfectly, I created a new one and it works perfectly as well. It is just my address. Has anyone else had this problem?

I have the same problem. The issue is IMAP vs. POP. Setting up the bizmail account with the pre-loaded "YahooMail" link in the Mail setup options sets up your bizmail account with IMAP settings. While this allows you to see all your storage folders from the server, for whatever reason, you can't receive mail as the incoming server "null" fails. I can send mail just fine, but I can't receive. Now the work-around was to set it up as an "other account," not using the YahooMail link. Then you have to select "POP", then use "pop.bizmail.yahoo.com" (ignore the quotes) for the incoming mail server with SSL turned OFF. For outgoing, you use "smtp.bizmail.yahoo.com:465", turn ON SSL. The 465 designates the correct port, so you should have that in there. This will allow you to both send and receive, but will NOT allow you to view your storage folders. The account would have to be set up as IMAP in order to see those folders, but I have been unsuccessful in getting that information from yahoo business support. They are as useless as the "geniuses" at the Apple Store. Hope this helps!

  • Mail.app mailbox selecting incorrect outgoing server

I have never run into this issue before and I am racking my brain trying to figure out how to fix it.
As of yesterday, my primary email account is using a secondary outgoing email server by default. The only way to prevent this is to manually select the primary email account after I open the email.
    For example:
My mailboxes look like this (four accounts, all iMAP):
    One
    Two
    Three
    Four
When I select "One", the new email window opens as if I have selected mailbox "Two". It's defualting to "Two". If I delete "Two's" outgoing smtp information, "One" will open as itself. If I open "Three" or "Four", they open as their own default mailboxes.
In Mail preferences > composing, I have it selected to "Open as selected account". When I change it to "Open as 'One'", then mailbox "One" will open as "One". When I change it back to "Open as selected account" it goes back to opening mailbox "One" as mailbox "Two".
All of my Account Settings in preferences are set up identically. They are 4 different iMap accounts using mail.smtp.com as their outgoing server with their own SSL and username/password authentication.
I have googled the issue in every way I can think to word it and have found similar issues, but none of the fixes for those seem to solve my problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have this same problem - and it is a big problem! Why can't I select the right mailbox for my email to come from any more either? Is someone from Apple looking at this?

  • I am unable to send mail on my IPad because the iPad ignores the single correctly configures outgoing server and instead looks for long since deleted outgoing server which is not listed in my settings at all.

Some time ago I used to use an outgoing mail server, which I will call 'XYZ'.  However I changed email providers and now have a new outgoing server which I will call 'ABC'. I tried deleting that old outgoing server when I changed email providers but had problems doing so.  So what I did was completely delete all email accounts from my iPad and then reinstalled the two new email accounts from scratch, complete with the new outgoing server 'ABC'.  That appeared to be successful, and I can receive email OK.  Also the new server 'ABC' is the ONLY outgoing server listed in my settings on either account
However despite the new server being the only one in my settings the iPad will not send mail and shows an error message saying that the settings for the OLD server 'XYZ' are incorrect.  I cannot amend or delete that server as it has already been deleted and is not listed in my settings.
It is like the iPad is somehow still remembering that old server and thinks it's the primary one.  Or it's getting old server info fron iCloud or something.
My iPhone has the same two email accounts and identical settings and does not have this issue.
Any ideas, other than a complete factory reset?
    Many thanks
    Rob
