Outgoing server errors keep coming back

does anyone happen to know why i keep getting errors on my mac pro (ethernet connection to internet and on Lion) related to Mail asking me to select a different outgoing server? i have two servers associated with my website domains, one for me.com and one for gmail and email is constantly getting hung up in mail on the mac pro so that i have to select a new server all the time and sometimes i awake in the morning to find that mail has not gone out. this is a major pain and i have tried to troubleshoot it with mac mulitple times as well as with my domain host and it keeps coming back.
i don't seem to have this problem on the macbookpro which is always on wifi and on Mountain Lion.
this problem has been going on for at least two years and always comes back after getting fixed.
TIA for any advice or technical expertise.

Hi streamworksaudio;
After you do that if this happens again, I would be really suspicious that drive is on the way out. I would be religious about backups and start checking around for a replacement.

  • Why does this error keep coming back every time I wish to download a rented movie? Err = -50.

I keep getting an error after renting a movie. It's usually Err = -50. I tried deleting my downloads folder (as instructed) which has only worked a few times now. The error keeps coming back. Also, I have a movie stuck in my downloads. It won't go away.

    Hi there
This often occurs if your computer does not meet the minimum system requirements for viewing HD content in iTunes. You can find more information, including system requirements, in the article below.

  • Disk Utility: Java VM Permission errors keep coming back

    Hello everyone,
I have a problem with my permissions. When I run Disk Utility I always get the same errors, I repair them and DU says they are repaired. Yet, if I run Disk Utility again (even right after a repair), there they are again.
It's a never-ending story: I repair them, DU says they are repaired, but they keep coming back at every scan (even when I run multiple scan/repair cycles in a row).

I checked them against the safe-to-ignore list on http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448 , but except for the last message (the SUID ARDAgent file) the other alerts regarding the JavaVM Framework seem not to be safe to ignore at all.
Does anybody know how to repair these permissions permanently (not just for three seconds)?
    Thank you,
    Daniele

Aha. Well, too much caution is better than none. I might suggest you skip the defragging unless you use very large files - 20 MBs and larger - with frequent changes. Unlike Windows OS X defrags files under 20 MBs on the fly to minimize fragmentation. Maintaining an adequate amount of free space on your hard drive will virtually eliminate fragmentation. We suggest 15 GBs or 10% of the hard drive's capacity, whichever is greater, should be maintained as free space. Fragmentation can become an issue as the amount of free space declines. The risks become greatest when free space drops to 5 GB or less.
We recommend repairing permissions and the hard drive prior to installing any new system updates. Repairing permissions after the installation is also a good idea since it's possible that fixes to Disk Utility may remove extraneous but innocuous "errors" being reported each time you repair permissions.
Some other occasional maintenance can't hurt. See the following:
Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility. For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. TechTool Pro provides additional repair options including file repair and recovery, system diagnostics, and disk defragmentation. TechTool Pro 4.5.1 or higher are Intel Mac compatible; Drive Genius is similar to TechTool Pro in terms of the various repair services provided. Versions 1.5.1 or later are Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep. Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts had been significantly reduced in Tiger and Leopard. These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defrags files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems.
I would also recommend downloading the shareware utility TinkerTool System that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old logfiles and archives, clearing caches, etc. Other utilities are also available such as Onyx, Leopard Cache Cleaner, CockTail, and Xupport, for example.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the commandline. Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    Backuplist
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    iBackup
    JaBack
    Silver Keeper
    MimMac
    Retrospect
    Super Flexible File Synchronizer
    ynchronizer
    SuperDuper!
    Synchronize Pro! X
    SyncTwoFolders
    Synk Pro
    Synk Standard
    Tri-Backup

  • Invalid Node Structure errors keep coming back,

    Hi people!
about 2 weeks I upgraded my internal HDD on my Mac Book 13" Unibody to a Western Digital Scorpion Blue 640gb... no big deal doing so. I booted up with the OX S 10.6 DVD and partitioned the drive into two and formatted each. I then installed OS X 10.6, then ran the software update. After every thing was complete I plugged in my USB 1TB drive and used Time Machine to create a backup.
After about a week of normal use I woke up one day to have my Mac Book take nearly 10min to boot, and when it did it was barely moving. I booted with the OS X DVD and ran Disk Utility and in reported Invalid Node Structure and I could not repair it. But the errors were only on the partition with OS X on it.
As I didn't have any files on that partition that I needed I did a Restore from Time Machine Backup that was on my USB drive. And all was good again. However this has happen about 3 times in the last 4-5 days. Each time I restore from the Time Machine backup and all is fine.
I thought I had it pinned down to a particular open source app that I was using but I restored the drive again last night and did not use that app this time... and this morning I am getting signs that something is going astray again (slow boot up times and slow shut down times etc). I am going to boot to the DVD and run Disk Utility again... but I am wondering is this software or can this new HDD be a dude? I never had this problem with the factory 160Gb Fujitsu drive that the Mac Book came with - although I never did partition that drive.
    Any thoughts?
    Cheers,
    Chris

i try to send e.mail off iphone 4 and message keeps coming back" recipient was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying"

This means that you did not enter a valid user ID and/or password for the Outgoing (SMTP) mail server when setting up the account. You must enter information for both the incoming and outgoing mail servers; they are separate settings.

Okay, folks, after a 3 1/2 hour phone call with a (very patient) telephone support person at Blackberry, here's what I learned.
You can check your USB drivers this way:
Plug in your phone into your USB drive. Assuming your Blackberry is "seen" by your computer...
Go into the Device Manager on your computer (control panel)
Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers item on the bottom of the list
Right-click on BlackBerry Smartphone and choose Properties
    Click on the Driver tab
Click on the Driver Details button
You should see one driver. I saw two. The one the BlackBerry likes is the RimUsb one.
So here's what NOT to do: We tossed the entire driver that was the "extra". This effectively made using my mouse and keyboard impossible, as they are USB, and sent my poor husband into the basement to find a million-year-old keyboard (and then a mouse) with the old fashioned kind of connectors (PS2). Bleh. Don't do that.
Here's what I did that worked (not saything this will work for you -- this modifies the Registry so better do a system backup with that backup and restore if you're nervous about this sort of thing):
From the start menu, choose run, and type regedit to get into the Registry editor.
Follow this file path: Computer, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SYSTEM, CurrentControlSet, Control, Class
    Click on: {36FCE60-C465-11CF-8056-4445535400000}
If there's an item on the right called "UpperFilters", delete it. (see pictures)
    Hope this helps someone.

check your account settings, possibly under advanced settings.
look for an option to check "remove messages from server" or similar.

I have several messages in my drafts mailbox that just keep coming back. I've deleted them several times over and even rebuilt my mailboxes (ALL of them!) to try and fix this issues. Anyone else seeing this?

That seems to have solved it. I turned off storing drafts on the server a couple days ago and they haven't come back. Thanks!

  • Can not delete Fox news icon from Safari Favorites Bar, keeps coming back

I can not delete "Fox news" icon from Safari Favorites Bar. Dogpile Search engine also.  Both keep coming back with icons upon new opening of Safari.
I have removed these icons from the Book Mark files and Favorites Bar menu and any reference in the LIbrary and replaced them with less spammy evercookie news and search engines 3 times to no avail.  I just upgraded Safari (April 2014) and it made no difference. These sites represent the paradigm I
no longer am putting energy into nor want which is why I have rid these increasing more corrupted and cookie agressive sites.  But now.....
they won't let me go!!  Any one no how?

Thank you for trying but no not the problem.  Had the same problem with Iphone 4S.  Would not connect to my mail server and tried to send me to fraudulent website in the UK/England.
I did a restore to factory restore to the phone with upgrade to newest operating system, my was up to date until OS 7 as I heard there were problems.  Now it has OS 7.
Neither I nor verizon could get the phone up and connected for service again.  Taking phone to
    apple store on Tues.
I am suspecting the "heart bleed"  vulnerability.

  • Why do my deleted emails keep coming back into my inbox?

I upgraded to Maverick last week and now I can't delete any of my emails.  They keep coming back into my inbox after I try to delete them.  Help!

  • How do I delete old email so it does not keep coming back into my inbox?

I am having so much trouble with my email on the iPad.  I cannot delete it.  It comes right back and floods my inbox.  I have now gone to webmail and removed it from the serve and it STILL comes back.  All the companies that I identified as SPAM with my server and do not come into my iMac inbox all come into my iPad inbox.  It is horrible.  I've tried everything...changing settings, etc. and the problem continues.  The way it is now, the email function is almost useless on my iPad and it really should not be.  I should be able to delete mail and have it stay deleted.

I've talked to Cox (my ISP) and they say this is the only way it can be set up.  Two different people at the Apple store in this area have said that Cox has an old server and that is causing the problem.  Cox says none of this is their problem,  and they do not deal with the iPad email, only the iMac email.
I just noticed that the trash on my iPad was filled with the mail that keeps coming back.  I deleted it...which I had never done because I didn't even know it was there. Nothing more has come back into the inbox (this could be purely accident, but it is the first time I've had an inbox with fewer than 24 old emails).  Should I be deleting the mail from the iPad trash every day?  Is there a setting for it to empty automatically..or does this not have anything to do with the problem?
I also did change the settings to add the 'west' but that probably doesn't matter.
Thanks for your help. The email is such a problem that I hardly bother using the iPad.  I'd really like to get it fixed.
Also should it be on 'push' or 'fetch?'

  • Mal/Phish-A threat from mail keeps coming back

I have been dealing with this Mal/Phish-A threat for a couple of months now. I keep getting a Sophos Alert to clean this Mal/Phish-A threat and when I clean it up, it pops up again. At first after a couple of days, now sometimes multiple times an hour. Needless to say this makes work very difficult, and I am also scared that the safety of my (professional) Mac is compromised. The threat appears to be an email attachment always called FullDetails.html. I read my mails using the Mac's Mail programme, and this particular account is a gmail account. I use the imap.gmail.com server to pull in email. The path of the threat is something like /Users/MYCOMPUTER/Library/Mail/[email protected]/[Gmail]/Alle berichten.imapmbox/Attachments/110344/2/FullDetails.html. I have tried the following: Clean up the threat using SophosScanning the computer (finding nothing every time) using Sophos after cleanupRemoving the attachments in FinderFinding emails containing FullDetails.thml and removing the mailsEmptying out my trash immediately after Threat keeps coming back. I don't know what to do. Please help!

Hi all,I would love to receive some more feedback on this issue. I am able to remove the threat from my computer, but I get new mails sent with this same virus every day, and I want to find a solution that does not involve me removing the mail after it's already downloaded to my computer. My Mac mail client downloads all mails and attachments to my computer, even if I don't open them. This means that the attachment I get sent everyday is downloaded automatically. I use gmail als mail client, but read all mails from the Mac mail client. Solution that's been suggested is 'catch' the email from gmail webmail, delete from there and after that open my mail client on the computer. However, this is not a real solution: I use the mail client on the Mac for reasons of efficiency and speed during my work and opening up and deleting mails from gmail everyday before the working day starts is not a real solution. I would like to hear if there is a way to prevent mails from arriving in my mail, or to permenantly delete mails upon arrival, without them being stored in inbox, trash or spam folder. Hope someone here has the solution!

"Verify your account. This Apple ID's email address cannot be verified. Change your apple ids email address at appleid.apple.com to sig into i cloud"
My apple id has been alive and in use for years on iTunes etc. I have tried a different address and password and still get the same result

If your email address is valid, just go to https://appleid.apple.com/, click "Manage your account" to the right, sign in, click  Name, ID, and Email Addresses to the left, then click "Verify now" next to your email address.  Apple will send you an email to this address with a verification link.  Otherwise add an alternate email address that can be verified.
