Outgoing server failing!

I have 4 email accounts on my iPhone. Seems like they have been inconsistently able to send email. Sometimes I can get one out but I can't figure out why or when. FYI all my .mac emails work fine.
I have a comcast and an eshcelon account that don't work very well.
I've tried the cwmx.com server with mixed results. and the servers provided by the providers also with mixed results.
Error message always reads -"the connection to the outgoing server "server.name.com" failed."
Any ideas???
thanks

atomic guy,
Per the Comcast help article that is linked to this Apple Kbase:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306074
Use smtp.comcast.net port 465 with SSL on.
For those in the UK or Germany with similar issues the common settings articles are linked in this article:

Hope this helps,
Nathan C.

Go to the email settings, and re-enter your Outgoing Server username and password.
Have you changed that recently, perhaps on the Incoming Server but not on the Outgoing server?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Can you send email from that account on another device?
    - You can try deleing the account from the iPod and reentering the settings.

I am having difficulty setting up my work email on my iphone 5
I can receive emails but cannot send.  An error comes up and says, The connection to the outgoing server [email protected] failed.  Additional Outgoing mail servers can be configured in settings....
My company name is CTS, so my email is [email protected]
Can you please guide me through the process?
    Thank you.

I am paying a major UK provider for authenticated SMTP access, and they confirm it should certainly work when out and about with the iPhone (as did British Telecom before them - BT insisted it should work "anywhere in the country"). The settings are correct. But it hardly ever works. With BT, the usual message was "No response from the server mail.btinternet.com". With my current provider, it's "The connecton to the outgoing server . . . failed". Very occasionally it does work, which presumably confirms that the settings are correct (which I know anyway).

  • TS1702 cannot send Mail   The connection to the outgoing server failed.  Additional Outgoing Mail Servers can be configured in Settings Mail, COntacts, Calendars

Cannot send outgoing messages from my IPhone.  Receive the following message:
                   Cannot Send Mail
The connection to the outgoing server"[email protected]" failed.  Additional OUtgoign Mail Servers can be configured in Settings> Mail, Contacts,                Calendar

See here for troubleshooting the SMTP settings (outgoing mail server on your carrier's servers)

Often removing a mail service from iPhone and resetting works

  • Outgoing server failed

I keep getting error messages saying that my iphone cannot connect to my incoming server and my outgoing server has failed.  I have checked all the settings against what my host provided and they are correct.  What is going on?  My iphone is on the Verizon network and it's iphone4.

whoa and behold guys, I have the same problem BUT I fixed it. I was up all night looking for answers. I wanted to reply back this morning from a guys email sent to my aol email stating to pray for a job promo. this morning newspaper he made headlines for the school district board of something I dunno..
So I wanted to reply congrats, but thats were I encountered the problem.
I figured I put in the USERNAME and PASSWORD, AGAIN in the outgoing mail server portion (smtp), which is the last portion. leave your advance settings the same as usual I think. for mines, use SSL on both incoming and outgoing, password authentication, and of course 993 port for incoming, 587 for the other..
I tested mailing from my gmail to my aol mail address, and I had my aol software open. I checked aol mail on my iphone, and while watching the aol screen the mailbox icon went away.. MAGIC!!
but thats not what you want to hear..... i replied BACK on my iphone.. and it SENT!!! i checked my gmail.. WHOA AND BEHOLD there it IS!!!! you guys will want to thank me badly LOZL

  • Connection to the outgoing server failed

My iPhone keeps saying connection to the outgoing server "smtp.mac.com" failed. I also have 2 unsent messages that have been trying to send for 2 weeks. I have 2 questions:
    1) How do I get rid of the connection failure?
    2) Where are the unsent messages and how do I delete them?
    Thanks for any advice

  • .mac outgoing server fail

outgoing mail for my .mac and .me accounts is failing to send for two days.  It will randomly work for a few sends and then hang.
trying outgoing port swaps no luck, tried rebooting everything, no luck.  Sends OK from gmail account.  current status: not sending.

Setup your .Mac Mail account preferences to use the GMAIL outgoing mail server.  You may be seeing a side effect of .Mac moving to iCloud.

  • Outgoing server keeps failing

Randomly when I try to send mail my outgoing server fails. The drop down window invites me to try again with selected server or change servers .... none of which work!
At the same time the window wanting me to sign in with my password appears.... Help!!

My problem is similar.  Using Mac OS Mail. Every so often (random, no pattern) out of the blue the SMTP server (mediacombb) is forgotten. I don't have multiple outgoing servers, so it just asks me 'which one' I want to use.  And of course there's only one listed, so I use that, and it sends just fine.  WHY does it keep forgetting to use the one server I have listed?  Makes no sense.

  • Connection to outgoing mail server failed only while on WiFi

I can only send emails out when I am not on a wifi connection (ie Wifi turned off). When it is on it say the "connection to outgoing mail server failed" smtp-server.satx.rr.com
Is there a fix for this?

Enter your userID and password for the SMTP server smtp-server.satx.rr.com even though it says "optional".

  • Yahoo mail can't send - Outgoing server "(null)" failed

I can not send ONLY from MY Yahoo email address. When I try to send a message is says "Outgoing Server '(null)' failed."
I have tried changing my password to one without numbers or characters, deleting the account and re-adding, restoring the iPhone. Nothing.
Here is the wierd thing: any other Yahoo account works just fine. My wifes yahoo address works perfectly, I created a new one and it works perfectly as well. It is just my address. Has anyone else had this problem?

I have the same problem. The issue is IMAP vs. POP. Setting up the bizmail account with the pre-loaded "YahooMail" link in the Mail setup options sets up your bizmail account with IMAP settings. While this allows you to see all your storage folders from the server, for whatever reason, you can't receive mail as the incoming server "null" fails. I can send mail just fine, but I can't receive. Now the work-around was to set it up as an "other account," not using the YahooMail link. Then you have to select "POP", then use "pop.bizmail.yahoo.com" (ignore the quotes) for the incoming mail server with SSL turned OFF. For outgoing, you use "smtp.bizmail.yahoo.com:465", turn ON SSL. The 465 designates the correct port, so you should have that in there. This will allow you to both send and receive, but will NOT allow you to view your storage folders. The account would have to be set up as IMAP in order to see those folders, but I have been unsuccessful in getting that information from yahoo business support. They are as useless as the "geniuses" at the Apple Store. Hope this helps!

  • Outgoing Mail - sending to server failed

A few computers in my office have had periodic trouble sending mail. This is the error message:
    *Message delivery failed.*
The server response was: Temporary local problem - please try later
You can try to send using a different server…
I've researched this a little and found suggestions to send on different ports or change the MTU from 1500 to 1492. I haven't tried this yet, because the problem is not consistent. It only effects 2 of 11 employees on the same network, and those 2 employees only get the error periodically. I am stumped. If the server response is "Temporary local problem" does that mean the problem is with our ISP or the machine?

According to the error message, the problem is local to the server and temporary, so it should be no surprise that it happens sometimes only. Do all the users send through the same outgoing server?

  • My phone keeps saying that the IMAP and the outgoing server are failing.

For the past 3 days it has been saying either my IMAP is failing or my outgoing server is failing. I don't know what to do and I need my emails for school. I have a 4s but I just recently updated and it seems like it all started after that. I have internet and my emails work on the computer so it has to be something with my phone itself.

When you updated the phone it may have erased your passwords. It will do that if you don't have your backup encrypted and you upgraded using iTunes on your computer. So go to Settings/mail,contacts,calendars and reënter the passwords for both incoming and outgoing mail.
If that doesn't resolve the problem you should delete the email account in Settings/mail,contacts,calendars. Then reset the phone by holding the HOME and SLEEP buttons until an Apple logo appears (you will not lose any data), and finally recreate the account.

  • Yahoo Biz mail can't send - Outgoing server "(null)" failed

I recently purchased the iPhone and can't get my Yahoo biz mail account to send mail, it only receives. I have read the other thread on this topic and reported it via the Apple feed back site but I still have not seen anyone post a reply that has found a solution for this other than using POP3 which then limits folder access only to the inbox. Does anyone have a success story for this issue and a way to solve the problem? Please reply if you have any info. Thanks!

Try cwmx.com as the host name on outgoing server under mail. I don't use Yahoo biz mail , but it solved my problem last week

  • Cannot send email from my Touch (connection to smtp server fails)

    Hello,
I have a new iPod Touch with 1.1.4 and the January apps. I am having a problem setting the Mail application.
I am trying to connect to the IMAP/SMTP servers at my university. I am using the exact same settings and passwords I use on my laptop, which works fine. I can receive email fine on my Touch, but every time I try to send one it fails tellings me "the connection to the outgoing server smtp.myuniversity.edu failed".
If I on purpose write a wrong password for the outgoing mail, the error message I get is different ("check the account settings for the outgoing server smtp.myuniversity.edu").
The university IT people confirmed my settings, and told me that there is nothing blocking any handheld device from using the server.
Does anyone know why this would happen?
    Thanks,
    Marcelo

Thank you very much for your responses
    1) the link to mail setup is (sorry, it's quite long)
    http://www.knowledgepak.com/kpaksonline/kpol.asp?PiAlias=kpolpi17&k2dockey=04096 3251575739@kpol17&ViewLink=true&SkipHeader=false&printformat=true
    2) I am indeed using SSL, as instructed by IT
    3) I do use port 587 instead of 25 (25 does not work either)
    Any ideas? Thanks again.
