Outgoing server problem

Why can't I use Mail (8.2) to send mail from an account that is hosted with Adobe's Business Catalyst. I set up the outgoing server as mail.imageprep.net but cannot ever send email from this account. The outgoing server is always offline.
I also don't understand why I set the incoming mail to ALWAYS TRUST a given server, but it makes me validate that "trusted" server several times a day.
Thanks.
iMac 24 running 10.10.2

This isn't a solution. I have the same problem. I created another user for my login and created a new mail for that user. All worked. I don't know what to do next since the smtp works for one user and not the other. At least this way I know it's not my smtp but something within the MAC. The mail box settings are the same in both. Any ideas?

  • Outgoing Server Problem with Apple Mail

I have multiple accounts set up in Apple Mail (two IMAP's a gmail and an exchange).  The Exchange account receives and sends fine, but the problem is that the Exchange account will not stay listed as the outgoing mail server, despite have it listed as the outgoing server in preferences for that account and is checked as "use only this server."  When I try to complse a new message when that account is selected, it defaults to one of the other accounts.  I can change in the message to the exchange account and it sends fine.  But having to change everytime I send a message is REALLY annoying.  Someone please tell me what I'm missing.

    Hi
I have a similar problem here i have work accounts which do not need the SSL ticked but when I uncheck the box and in a  few seconds the tick is back up again sometimes I have to click about 10 times or so for it to stay off. I tried to do your sollution it did not work on your suggested port but seemed to work on the 25 port . Also I found i only have the problem when I am at work were we are on a PC network and firewall. It seemed to work fine on a normal home line. Also it only happens on Mountain Lion I have a older macbook with snowleopard and there i have not problems sending messages
as right it was said Apple needs to look into that ASAP as it is very frustrating

  • Gmail outgoing server problems

I am currently experiencing gmail outbox issues that have only popped up recently. It is also happening to another person I know of.
Is anyone else finding the "failed to send smtp.gmail.com" coming up more often lately??? Is there something going on?

I'm not having any problem with Gmail at all.
What are the specific Incoming and Outgoing server settings for that Gmail account, and what is the exact text of the error message you get, if any? Is this a POP or IMAP account? When did this start happening and what did you do just prior to this problem starting?

  • Outgoing server problems?

Is anybody experiecing problems with theit @me.com outgoing server? My macbook pro is stating it is offline but it wont let me put it back online. Any ideas how to solve it please

Could be something like that, but my Mozilla ap (on a different machine) uses port 25 for the outgoing server as well, and I've had zero problems with it.
But I'll take your advice and investigate switching ports and see if that makes a difference.
I might say, though, that I've found Mail to be a much more finicky program than my Mozilla mail client. It (Mail) seems to take certain accounts off and on line for no apparent reason. I've used the Mozilla mail feature for years and it is rock solid (which is why I still use it today: it is my wife that uses Mail and her account giving us the problems).

  • Outgoing server problems in Mail

I am having trouble with my outgoing server in Mail. It basically will not allow me to send mail. But it is the same server setting I have always used. I can receive mail wih no problem. This applies to several different accounts, all using the same server settings. I would think it could be my ISP's mail server, but I can send mail with no problems from the same server when using the email client in Mozilla (on a different machine). The outgoing server name and port all match from the machine that works to the one that doesn't, so I'm wondering if it's just an issue with Mail?
    Anybody got any suggestions?

  • Can't send mail - outgoing server problem

I am using Mail. OS X.4.6. Yesterday I used Mail with no problem. Today when I 'sent' an email, a pop up told me I couldn't use the outgoing server (the server in the email account selected), and suggested two others (one of which is no longer an account). The outgoing server for the email account selected has not changed.

Mail keeps information about outgoing servers in a separate list, independently of any specific mail account. The account settings just associate one of the available outgoing servers with each account. Deleting an account doesn't remove the outgoing server from the list. Orphaned or dangling outgoing server entries (i.e. not associated with any account) sometimes cause sending problems, so you may want to fix that, even though it could very well have nothing to do with your problem -- actually, it could very well be that you don't have a problem, and this is just a transient error.
Go to Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), choose Edit Server List from the popup menu, and delete any servers that shouldn't be there. The Edit Server List sheet shows the account each outgoing server is associated with.
Alternatively, Mail comes with some scripts available under the Script menu when that menu is enabled. There is a Manage SMTP Servers there that finds any unused outgoing mail servers and gives you the option to delete them. Type "Script Menu" in Mail Help for more information on this feature.

  • Outgoing server problem (STARTTLS)

    Hi,
I have an email account which Outgoing server doesn't work on Apple Mail (Version 4.2 (1078)), and it works on Mozzila Thunderbird (Version 3.0.4).
    The server settings are:
    Settings:
    Server name: mail.xxx.xxx.xx
    Port: 465
    Security and Authentication:
    Ask for user and pass;
    And connection security is: STARTTLS
These are the working settings for Thunderbir. In Apple Mail I tested all the possible Authentication methods and ports and nothing worked...
What should I do? Migrate to Thunderbird?
    Thank you!

This doesn't seem to have anything to do with icloud, but you can verify your mail settings using http://www.apple.com/support/macosx/mailassistant/ .

  • Anyone else having sudden Mail Outgoing Exchange Server problems?

I have a Microsoft Exchange account for work that I have been accessing on Mail for about 2 yrs w/o any problems until last weekend. Then, suddenly, I can't send emails from that account if I originate the email, but I can send it w/o difficulty if I'm replying to an email from that account!
Also, when I do open a new email on that acct, it opens as an iCloud mail, and I have to select my Exchange server in the dropdown. When I do this, it doesn't add in my Signature for that acct, although it does when I'm replying to an email.
I've made no changes to my account or server settings, nor has our Administrator. My Lion/Mail versions are UTD. When I check the Outgoing server info, I notice it keeps deleting it, and marking the server as Offline.
I can log in as a webmail (owa) acct, and can also log in on my PC--same PW, etc.
VERY strange--have been searching Discussions/Help/Knowledge Base since then and trying everything I can think of (with 22+ yrs Mac experience)--to no avail.
Any thoughts from the Mail Gurus out there?

Same thing. I'm in Mexico City right now and Mail stopped working two days into the trip. I reset all my email accounts in Mail and it still wouldn't work. I had to switch to Entourage to recieve and send emails (worked perfectly).  I prefer Mail but I've had this problem before with emails getting hung up. What's going on here?

  • Outgoing server port configuring not in Mail 3.5 - problems sending mail?

I recently upgraded from Tiger to Leopard and one of the things I noticed is that in Mail 3.5 undere Mail>Preferences>Accounts under the Account Information tab, there is no longer the ability to select or change ports for the Outgoing Server.
In Mail 2.x, there was an Advanced button that would let you choose a different port and select SSL (or not). In Mail 3.5, this feature is missing. Does anyone know if the outgoing server port can be changed? The reason I ask is that when I travel, my ISP will not accept any of my outgoing mail because I'm not using my home IP address (especially with .mac). This is usually remedied by changing to a different, less common port for the outgoing server. If I'm unable to change outgoing server ports in Mail 3.5, is this going to cause problems sending mail when I'm on the road? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
    Ed

If you pull down the bar in the outgoing mail server, you should be able to select "edit server list" and the window shows up where you can set up port.

  • Smtp-server (outgoing mail) problem on MAIL

Time Warner/road runner technician cannot figure out m youtgoing (smtp) email connection. No way of authenticating the smtp-server.nyc.rr.com. The Apple=software on my new Mac mini is too advanced for TW help site. They told me to solve "smtp-server problem" though MAC mini help site.
How can I get the smtp server to work so that I can send out my emails on my mac-MAIL program
    Irene Schmied

what is the smtp server info they have told you to use?
in Mail>preferences>accounts, make sure your TW account is selected in the left hand side of the window, then go to the Account Information tab, then go to the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) option at the bottom of that window, click on it, and go to Edit Server List, what is showing as server name? an if you click on Advanced, what is the server port, is SSL checked, and is authentication set to password, and if so do you have the user name and password entered?
    let me know

  • Comcast outgoing mail server problems

I have seen this problem posted for other ISPs but I am having the same problem with Comcast. I complete the mail set-up but when I go to send mail I recieve the "cannot send mail using smtp.comcast.com outgoing server" pop-up. Any suggestions.
    iMac/iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I use Comcast as well and I'm not having any problems. How do you have your server settings set?
    Mine is set as follows:
    Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.comcast.net
    Server Port: 25
    Use SSL: Yes (checked)
    Authentication: None

  • MAIL problem - telefonica smtp outgoing server

First sorry this is on the safari board. Couldn't find the one for mail!
I am on holiday and the ISP I can find (public) is Telefonica. I have tried the standard smtp outgoing server (smtp.telefonica.net) but even on this I keep getting a "address rejected by server'. I've tried different servers but I think telefonica is fairly tight about that sort of stuff. I think the problem is a password and username is needed however I can't get these.
Is there any way around this, perhaps setting up a personal smtp server, or someway of bypassing their outgoing mail restrictions? This is my first mac so I'm a little bit stuck...
    hope you can help!

Ok fixed it. For anyone else having the problem of a not being able to send outgoing mail with a public ISP do the following.
    1) setup a gmail account and record password and username.
    2) Set up a new server in mail: "mail/preferences/accounts/outgoingmail server (drop down)/edit server list"
    3) add a new server by clicking on 'plus'
    4) server name is 'smtp.gmail.com'. check 'use custom port' and enter 587. check use ssl box.
    5) in Authentication drop down, choose password then enter your gmail username and password.
All this worked for me after fannying around with loads and loads of far more complicated things! Hope this helps someone like it did me!
