Outgoing SMTP not working

I have Tiscali broadband and am having problems getting Mail to work on Leopard. I have been able to get my emails that were on the server, but am not able to send any messages. The error message I get is;
Connections to the server “smtp.tiscali.co.uk” on the default ports timed out.
Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
Connection and login to server succeeded. Trying to log into this smtp account failed. Please make sure user name and password are correct.
Of course, they ARE correct! Any ideas anyone? The weird thing is, I am getting my emails fine on my iphone, just not on my desktop.

What Port should it be using. In the update of Mail to 3.5, a new default list came into being -- it can make mistakes, sometimes. In Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information click on the arrows beside the name of the SMTP and choose Edit List. Then choose the Advance tab in that window, choose Use Custom Port and use the Port and type of Authentication you know it should be using.

  • Outgoing smtp not working on Pro

    Hello folks,
I have passed the last month talking with tech support from my service provider and from my email account with no luck so I turn to you. I have read all the post I could find and all the google searches I could think of and still nothing. My service provider has made me try to use 4 different smtp server without anyluck.
So first my phone and setting:
Palm Pro with WM6.1 AKU 1.4.4.0 Build 20765 Platform 2
    Provider is Bell in Canada
I have setup my email account and incoming mail (IMAP) works fine, however I run into a problem with my outgoing smtp. I can't seem to make any stmp server work other then gmail. I would use my gmail but then my business email recipents would see emails coming from a different address and this would cause to much confusion. I always get the following error when trying to send emails:
“The message could not be sent. Check that you have network coverage and that your account information is correct. Then try sending again.”
The most promissing articles I read are the following two:
    http://www.tracyandmatt.co.uk/blogs/index.php/2008/09/18/windows-mobile-6-1-smtp-issues
    http://www.tracyandmatt.co.uk/blogs/index.php/2008/10/15/windows-mobile-smtp-fix
However, I have had no luck with this.
I was wondering if you would have any other ideas of things I could try to slove my outgoing email problem?
     Thanks,
Post relates to: Treo Pro T850 (Bell)

Yes. I have deleted the account a billion times. (hehe) I also came so despirate that between changing setting I would delete the account, do a soft reset, and then try a new setting and still nothing.
There most be a problem with the software somewhere because even my service provider default smtp doesn't work. (mail.1xbell.ca)
    Any other ideas????

  • Mail SMTP (outgoing) does not work after Yosemite upgrade

I have just updated Yosemite on my Mac and MacBook Air and the outgoing mails cannot be sent - the SMTP-connection fails.
It worked fully Ok few seconds before the upgrade was started.
So, I wonder if anyone or Apple can help on getting the Outgoing mails to work again.

For those of you having email password issues, I'd suggest:
    1) Close your mail client (i.e. Apple Mail, Thunderbird, Outlook, etc).
    2) Launch "Applications" > "Utilities" > "Keychain Access.app"
    3) Select "login" from the sidebar top left area, then select "Passwords" in lower left area
    4) Click into the Search box in the upper right and search for your ISPs server names.  For example, type "aol" or "google" or "comcast", etc.
    5) Look through the search results for password entries related to your SMTP (outgoing) or IMAP/POP (incoming) mail servers.  Select them and delete them.
    6) Open your email client and try to receive mail, and then to send mail.  You should be prompted to enter your mail username and/or password.
Hopefully this might fix issues for those of you using mail clients that use Keychain for credential storage.

  • Outlook 2007 - hotmail not not populating in outlook - incoming/outgoing server not working

Hi - I am switching computers and have reinstalled Outlook 2007.  When I add my account  it asks for incoming/outgoing mail server information from my ISP.   I am unable to look on previous laptop set up as the "repair"
portion of account is not highlighted and I can't get to that level to see it. I contacted my ISP (Comcast) who provided: Incoming Server: mail.comcast.net and Outgoing Server: smtp.comcast.net.  They also provided incoming mail server: port
number 995 (POP3) 110 (POP3); and outgoing mail server: 465(SMTP) 587(SMTP).   This is not working.     Who has a solution?
P.S. Comcast is my new provider as of 3 weeks ago and no issues with old laptop--also that would not have been my incoming/outgoing server information then.  thank you

    Hi,
Apple have instructions here on how to setup MobileMe:
    http://www.apple.com/mobileme/setup/mac/
There should be a checkbox to 'automatically configure' according to the article.

  • Outgoing Mail Not Working in Yosemite

My outgoing mail server SMTP does not work now that I have updated my OS to Yosemite. I have checked all passwords and setting to be the same as they were in Maverick but no luck. I have tried to delete my mail account and start over but still no luck.

Here is a screen shot of the connection Doctor. Incoming emails work.

    Hi. Welcome to the forums.
Apologies for asking some questions below :-
Can you give some indication of the error messages you are receiving ?
It sounds like you have your own domain, using specific email address setup for each website ? Or perhaps different domains ? - would that be perhaps correct ? Do you have your own mail server name for these ?
What mail client are you using ?, and have you altered any of the account settings ?

  • Smtp not working

My wife's email can no longer send Mail. This happened last night.
Nothing has changed except it is not working.
I created a new user and then re-entered her mail information and it works under a new user.
But when I log back in, her SMTP is not working.
I deleted her SMTP settings and re-entered a new SMTP and it still not working.
I am lost on how I should handle this
    I do have TimeCapsule
Is there a way on what File in the System folder that I should re-install on her laptop?

  • Smtp not working on iOS

I recently moved to an ISP called greengeeks (good move), but I have had problems configuring mail on my Mac, iPad and iPhone.  Or rather, it works on the Mac but not on the iPad and iPhone. The message makes a wooshing noise, but it is neither in Sent or Outbox.
The configuration instructions for an iPhone are at http://kb.greengeeks.com/2188/how-to-setup-email-on-the-iphone/
    The key bits are
    host: mail.domainname
    SSL off
    Authentication: Password
    Server port 26
I'm wondering if the problem is authentication, because every time I go back to check the settings they seem to have lost the choice password, although this always appears at the top of the list of choises.
I've tried all the standard stuff like deleting the three email accounts affected and starting over again, deleting the smtp settings, rebooting my iPad. Since the settings work on my Mac but not on either iPad or iPhone, I'm wondering if it is an ios issue. (My iCloud mail smtp works OK, but then, iOS is set up to make this amazingly simple.)
Could anyone throw any light - or suggestions - on my problem? I don't think I can face another evening of reconfiguring and testing.

While you were typing I tried out putting in the -optional - username and password into smtp.  That does seem to have solved the problem of authentication disappearing (which is what you are referring to?).  Silly of me to have missed that!
But -smtp is still not working.  Still whooshing into the ether without trace.  I'll try some rebooting now.
Minutes later.  I've rebooted and its worked!
So, memo to self - read and reread the instructions (and dont rely on past knowledge) and final action: reboot.
Thank you for your quick response AmishCake.

This fixed it on mine.  In Mail.app:
    1) Mail menu | Preferences.
    2) Select problematic account in list on left.
    3) Select "Edit SMTP Server List..." from Outgoing Mail Server drop-down.
    4) Fix username by appending domain name
(append "@gmail.com" if standard account, or your own domain if apps user).
    5) Re-enter password.
    Save your preferences.

  • SMTP not working with ATT

Is AT&T stopping support for MacMail?
Reading email is fine, but connecting to the SMTP servers are not working.
Tech support tells me they are no longer supporting email clients and cannot help with this issue.

As far as I can tell from the communication between the mail client and the SMTP server the ATT SMTP servers does not respond to the client's liking to a HELO request. It is possible the ATT servers will not accept requests from a private IP, but that is not the normal computing environment for a home.

  • Impossible to delete POP accounts from iCloud keychain and SMTP not working

    Hello,
After an aborted Mavericks clean install, I reverted to Mountain Lion via Time Machine and started experimenting with iCloud Keychain on Mavericks using trashable Virtual Machines.
I am hitting two serious problems with email accounts :
    1. I turned on iCloud keychain ONLY on my Mavericks test installs (not on my iOS device)
    2. First time I turned it on and used my usual AppleID, the test install retrieved all my email accounts (I have many of all types)
    3. I could not make password SMTPS work on any IMAP accounts, so I decided to delete ALL email accounts from my iCloud Keychain
    4. When you ask to delete an email account, it asks if you want to delete it from ALL your accounts, whoch is what I did (make a clean slate)
    5. Of all the accounts I have, I have two old disabled POP3 accounts. I deleted them as every other one (including FB, Twitter, LinkedIN, Exchange, ...)
Every time I set up a new test install with iCloud keychain enabled, these two POP accounts continue to show up on the list.
Every time I delete them again from ALL keychains they disappear, but anytime I launch Mail they come back, and if I delete them again, and then I add a new email account they come back.
No way to delete them from ALL keychains
And BTW user/password SMTP on SSL for IMAP accounts does not work for me. It fails all the times on my postfix server.
    So, my issues are :
    - iCloud keychains seems unstable with email accounts (probably with POP accounts only)
    - SMTP over SSL with user/password doesn't seem to work
Anybody hit the issue ? For me is a severe showstopper for Mavericks and iCloud keychains
    Best
    Luca

Restore it as new.  Why wouldn't you do that when purchasing a used device from another individual?

Fortunately, Mail has a built-in tool called "Connection Doctor" that can give you further information about Mail's inability to send messages. This can be accessed from the Window menu -> Connection Doctor.

I have been unable to send emails from my Mail account as it continues to say SMTP server is offline.  Has only been happening in the last 2 weeks.  Any advice???

It sounds like your Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) is not set up correctly.  I would suggest ypu open Mail>Preferences>Accounts>go down to the line on the lower right of the window that says "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)>click on the drop down arrows at the right end of that line, and click on the "Edit SMTP Server List..."> in the following two available windows make sure all the settings are correct as to Port, Password, Server Name, etc. as stated by your ISP.
