Outline around .png files

I created a .png file by taking a screen shot and sent the file to someone who opened it on a pc. On the pc, the file opened with a boxed outline around the image.
does anyone know why that happened and how to prevent it from happening?
thanks, sandy

Thanks for clarifying that windoze can render pngs. I understand about the lower quality, but the suggestion was to determine if those same PCs showed the black border when viewing your jpeg version.

  • Can't  drag around PNG files

Hi, I just got Windows CS3 and have discovered I can't drag png files into other file windows in CS3. I can drag jpg's, psd pieces from different layers, tif's - but not png's. I could in 7.0. What am I forgeting?

Nothing. File format has nothing to do with the image once it is loaded into photoshop. Is it a background layer? Maybe locked? Have you tried selecting the entire image? (ctrl-a) If you can select it you can copy and paste it.
Another possibility is you found some kind of bug. Did you try trashing the configuration files? In the Faq of this forum it should tell you how.
    Good luck,

  • Help! How do I get rid of this annoying outline around text after exporting to a PNG

I designed a text document in illustrator and it looks great...in illustrator. As soon as I export it to a PNG, an annoying outline around text appears. What do I do?????

For text or 1-color items you can try the .gif format for sharper edges.
Try changing the color of your matte to what the colro of the background is. The image will lok bad, unless you put that on top of your background.

  • How to fix black borders around transparent PNG files?

    Hello,
Recently, iMovie has started putting black borders around transparent PNGs. How can I fix this?

Any way to fix the alpha transparency when importing PNG files to iMovie 09?
I just know the two options - wrong (8bit) png or that plugin, which in an older version destroyed transparency..
what also make transparent-to-black is, when you 'manipulate' the imported png, esp. adding a *KenBurns Effect* - that kills transparency instantly.
    for test purposes:
    • create a new project
    • create a new png with some traansparency
    • add new png to new project - same result?
and just to avoid EVERY problem: your sys preferences/Monitor is set to 'million colors'?

  • Problem in using PNG files....

    Hi everybody...
    Whenever i use ImageIo.read(filename) function to read a PNG file....it returns a bufferedImage with Type = 0....
and i cannot use this type of image to perform convolution operations....
    how can i solve this??....
Another problem is that whenever i save it using the write method....the size of the new file is way too large than original image.
    ( ex - 250 kb(source image) - 1.5Mb(saved image))
    how can i solve this??
    plzz someone help me...
    itz urgent!!

I'm making educated guesses here but I suspect you may be loading a palettised (ie <16M color) file and convolution probably requires true color - you can convert by creating a new image and rendering into it.
As for writing out, you can adjust the write settings by tailoring the relevant ImageWriteParams... there should be plenty of info around if you Google.

  • Png files referenced in css not displaying in Chrome & Firefox after after PUT

I'm new to dreamweaver but I've got a techy / software background so feel free to speak geek.
I've been tasked to create a simple splash screen for an existing intrenal website for my company.
I've been able to put page together in DW and sucessfully preview in Chrome, Firefox, & IE.  After I PUT files on the webserver (under an existing virtual directory in IIS) I'm bumping into a problem where I'm not able to see a the three png files I've got embedded into the .css sytle sheet fro the header, container, and footer sections.  Here's a look at the html & css for the page.  Any recommendations on how I could code this better or fix the problem?  Your help will be very much appreciated.

    1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the div. The elements within this div have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box model math". Keep in mind, if you add any side padding or border to the div itself, it will be added to the width you define to create the *total* width. You may also choose to remove the padding on the element in the div and place a second div within it with no width and the padding necessary for your design.

CSS for images coded on the Web page itself is pathed relative to that Web page. CSS for images used by the external CSS file is pathed relative to the CSS file location.
If this is the link to the css file from the Web page... go to "CognosSplashScreen" subfolder and get the "oneColFixCtrHdr.css"
    <link href="/CognosSplashScreen/oneColFixCtrHdr.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
.... and you don't need the leading "/" by the way.
then relative to that css file, which is already in the "CognosSplashScreen" subfolder, the path to the "HeaderBubbles_02.png" is just
    background-image: url(HeaderBubbles_02.png);
    not:
    background-image: url(/CognosSplashScreen/HeaderBubbles_02.png);
and so forth for other image paths.

  • White outline around images in pdf

Ok I've searched google for help and have not found any tips. I'm using CS4. I'm creating a document in indesign. I've placed some psd files into the document. In photoshop they are an object with a transparent background.
Now they look fine when printing and when viewing in indesign. But when i output as a ps from indesign, then take it into distiller it creates a pdf with a white outline around the image. Why is this happening? See attachement. Outline is on the bottom, it's a really thin line.
I do file print, select adobe pdf 8.0 then i pick the postscript option, then hit print to save the pdf. I've tried changing from CMYK to leave unchanged for color options. Please help!!!

Try searching for the term stitching. That should give you plenty.
In short, what you're seeing is the result of your archaic workflow causing the transparency to be flattened. The preferred and recommended method for PDF creation is through direct export, maintaining all transparency in the document.

  • Best Practice for Many Complex Elements In One PNG File

I use Fireworks all the time, but I'm still embarrasingly ignorant on how to do some things property.
For instance, when I do mockups of a new customers homepage, there may be many small or medium sized complex objects on the page.  By "objects" I mean like lots of modules advertising their different services, and each module has its own graphics, text, backgrounds, etc all with lots of different effects applied.
Should all of these things reside in one large png file, or does Fireworks offer some way for me to create some of these as separate png files and just drop an "instance" of them into the main file?  I read something about adding files to the Common Library, but I will only need these files for one single customer so that may be overkill.
Or do I even need to worry about separating them at all and should just continue having everything for a single customer in one big single png file?
Please let me know if my question is not clear.

In reading a bit further, it looks like a good option for me might be to just select everything that makes up a specific module and just "group" it. That way I can move it around and turn it off and on easier.
So I'm thinking that unless theres something Im going to reusing more than once in a document (which in this case I'm not) then its fine to have everything all in one png?  And the only time I use the Common/Document Library is when i'm reusing things?
I'm just trying to wrap my head around what all my options are in Fireworks, as so far my experience is limited to just dragging around rectangles and shapes and stuff on one single canvas to create website mockups.

  • Photoshop CC 2014 Crashes When Opening or Saving PNG Files

I'm having an issue where opening or saving PNG files causes my copy of Photoshop CC 2014 to crash.
I've updated to the latest version, restarted my computer and have no plugins installed. I have also re-installed the program from the Creative Cloud application, although I haven't tried a full uninstall/reinstall sequence.
I'm running an x64 version of Windows and have tried both the 64 and 32 bit versions of Photoshop - neither works.
Other file formats don't appear to cause any issue - the problem is specific to PNG files (does Adobe Photoshop depend on any PNG library like LibPNG? Perhaps an older version has been installed by a different application?)
This issue seems to have occured in the past on the Adobe forums, but there is no clear resolution.

  • Photoshop CC can´t open .PNG files?

I can´t seem to open .PNG files with Photoshop CC.
Looking around the net for answers i found out that resetting your Photoshop preferences might be able to solve the probem.
This unfortunatly creates a new problem, how do i reset the preferences in Photoshop CC? - all the guides/tutorials i found was for CS6 or older versions.
So how do i solve this problem?
    Best regards
    Jannik

  • Extracting resourse like .ai & png files from a flash project

Hi! I have been assined the task of extracting the images from old flash projects and am having a devil of a time doing so.
There are lots of programs that you can extract info out of the swf files, but these don't give you the original .ai Ilustrator files that may have been used to create the presentation with, or png files with transparent backgrounds.
Is there a plug-in in Flash that allows you to capture these items in the document?  when I drag the item from the library (lets say a .ai file) to the stage and right click and copy it, it only gives me part of the item when I paste it back into illustrator... and when I drag the PNG resource to photoshop I get it with a background I do not want.
any help on this would be great!!!!
I have both cs3 and cs4 so a solution in either one would be great!

Well that is kinda what I've been doing, only its not quite that simple as doing it that way makes an image of what is on the entire stage.  What I have to do is create a new project copy over all my library items to the new project, and pull over each one individually and do it that way.... if you have a lot of items in your library (which I do a lot of times since these contain a lot of animation sequenced into individual frames) this process can be quite tedious.  Yes you can save out to .ai illustrator files this way as well.
I was hoping for something a little more... automatic or at least where I don't have to drop each item individually on a stage, reposition, ect...
But yes, the previous post is one way of doing it with some fooling around with.

  • Flattened png. files only render in black and white

    Hi,
I have been working with fireworks on a daily basis for over
a year now, and I have never come across this problem. I think it's
either a setting, or I have some sort of bug. But here's whats
going on: I design websites and so I use lots of .png files
(flattened of course) Recently all of flattened png files are
rendering only in black and white. By that I mean I save them in
color, and then when I save them they turn black and white, and I
can only tell this once I reopen them. Even if I go into the
options section when you are saving a doc, and I can choose the
format, and then underneath that the palette, the palette itself is
somehow always set to grayscale, and so I will change it to web
adaptive which is my usual setting. Has anyone had this problem
before. The only way around it that I have found is by first saving
my project as a jpg, and then going back into fireworks and then
saving it as a flattened png.

When installing the new cartridges, did you get the message "Original HP cartridges have been installed"?
Can you check the ink levels and actually see the been color displayed?
Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

Apple Mail isn't going to change the format of any of your attachments. it isn't going to corrupt them either.
Exchange is a transport protocol and server. The issue you describe is not related to Exchange.
There are many different versions of Microsoft Outlook in use and they all have e-mail bugs. Different versions have different bugs. Some Apple Mail hack to get around a bug in Outlook 2003 may cause the same message to be problematic in Outlook 2000. Fix them both and another issue will cause trouble in Outlook 2007. You can't fix this. Apple can't fix this. Microsoft can and has but that is irrelevant if your recipients are using older versions.
One specific problem is that Apple Mail always sends image attachments inline, as images, not as iconized files. You can change this with Attachment Tamer. Just be aware that use of this software will break other things such as Stationery. E-mail is just a disaster. To date, no one outside of Apple has ever implemented the e-mail standards from 1993. Apple has continually changed its e-mail software to be more compatible with the de-facto standards that Netscape and Microsoft have unilaterally defined and people documented as "standards" after the fact. The e-mail messages that Apple Mail sends are 100% correct and do not violate any of the original standards from 1993 or the Microsoft/Netscape modifications. The problem is entirely bugs and limitations in various versions of Outlook.

  • IWeb sites are slow to upload. text columns turn to heavy png files

    Hi!
Yes I've noticed that iweb sites for some odd reason are slower to load on any browser. No matter what the hosting is. I use Me.com for a few years and iWeb as I don't have the time or patience to bother with Dreamweaver. I use Me.com for hosting as well as another web hosting server. If there is graphic material on the page, it takes so long to open. Apple must do something about it for sure.
The program iWeb itself doesn't open up fast enough if you have more than 3 pages on it (which any normal site would have). I'm glad Apple made good changes in iWeb09, but it needs to do something about the speed of the program, the sites it makes and how it processes simple matter on it.
Even though, I have come across some good examples of iWeb made sites that are easy and relatively faster to open or they open at a normal speed. The authors also have used flash material on their iWeb sites. I have a non-registered program (web site Maestro) that claims to ease up and streamline the graphic and other heavy content on a iWeb site to make it lighter with loading.
But the unregistered version works on 70 percent files only. And I don't really notice any difference with it either. So I'm doubtful of buying the full version.
Any thoughts? Solutions? Would really appreciate.
ANOTHER ISSUE that I have discovered while making iWeb site is that a text column put on a shape after publishing turns into a heavy PNG picture file that can weight almost upto 1 whole megabyte!!!
And you keep wondering why the darn page is so slow to open!!! Cuz a simple text could've been just about 50kb. But it turns into a 900kb picture in png!!! Is there a way to change this?? I guess, taking out the picture from the published site folder and reediting it in - say - Photoshop reducing its size may help. But its so cumbersome and arduous to go into every darn folder and open all the text now converted into pics and re-edit them!! And then their reduced quality will make the text look feeble and bad quality too.
This is a problem that APPLE iWEB experts Must work on. iWeb gives a certain flexibility as its like a free flowing canvas. But then its also a known fact that iWeb sites are exceptionally heavier to open, unless you know many other tweaks here and there to make it work right. But again, this is contrary to the purpose of iWeb, cuz its made for amateur site makers.
I wish there is a work around this thing really.
ANY SUGGESTIONS FRIENDS?? WOULD LOVE TO HEAR. PLEASE SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS AND SOLUTIONS.
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Nitesh

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Shapes by their very nature are graphic elements that end up a png file whether there's text in them or not. You should try adding the text in a text box above the shape and see if there's any difference. Just be sure to use a Web Safe Font and not add any enhancements that will turn it into a image file:
You may not notice a difference with loading with WSM but those with Internet Explorer should. Have you tested your site with and without WSM on a PC?
In WSM you can set the amount of optimizing for graphics. I've set it at about 60% (moderate) and haven't tested other settings for image quality. I'm sure a lower quality level, i.e. more compression, will have a impact on file loading. I just don't have a feel for the greatest amount of compression that will still have acceptable image quality. You'll just have to experiment.
If your site is a commercial site then using a commercial hosting server is the best option. Also, it's reported that using a Text Based Navbar instead of iWeb's java based one will help dark side compatibility.
Be sure to put in feature requests for the improvements that you see necessary to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html.
