OUTLINE PHOTOS

Is there an easy way to put a white outline around a placed photo in Illustrator?

Also, if your image has a clipping path (made in photoshop or whatever) you can stroke it using the appearance palette. From the flyout menu, "add new stroke" and then move it below "contents" in the list below.

  • When using Alpha to outline photos in an ebook does it stay outlined across other platforms or programs

I am creating an ebook in Keynote with animation, and some movies. Then I plan on publishing it with iAuthor. Then I want to publish it with other book sellers, i.e. Amazon and others. What are the concerns with everything working in the other platforms and what do I need to do? Also, I'm concerned about using the Alpha programs to outline photos. It does not seem to work after Alpha to save them into iphoto for reuse. What happens to those photos when going to another device, program. Do they stay outlined? Any help you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks

    Tom -
In Keystone I have some art that apprear in the image and text and they stay there in playing after importing them into quicktime movie and placing them into iAuthor. When I preview them on the iPad they appear and then dissapear. The page goes back to the beginning after the movie is complete without the image. The page is to stay with the image while the reader finishes the page and then goes to the next. How can I get the  page to stat intact. All ideas appreciated.
    Thanks Jack

  • Remove white background from an outlined photo

I'm going crazy. I have a photo with a clipping path done in Photoshop CS3. All I want to do is place the photo in Illustrator CS3 on top of a colored background but every time I try, I get a white box around the photo. I've tried dragging from the PSD's, placing the photo with the background removed from Photoshop all to no avail. I thought if you made a Photoshop clipping path it would make everything outside the path transparent.
    Please, please help me.
    Marcia

Larry and Marcia it is not necessary to have the image on one layer and another layer below
that is also transparent. Just click on the background layer's name in photoshop to make it transparent then remove the unwanted areas of the image. save it as an unflattened .psd file and when you bring it into illustrator the image will remain transparent and you will be able to see objects below the areas of the image that are transparent.
I also think that the reason this did not work with the clipping path is that the clipping path was not a clipping path but just a path. Creating a path and saving the file as a .psd will do you know good unless you save the path and then make that saved path a clipping path using the commands from the path's panel drop down menu.
    User error.

  • Outline Photo

Haven't used Illustrator for a while, and struggling a bit. I want to import a picture and outline the details on a different layer, then get rid of the picture and print the outline for use on an overhead projector. Would like to do it in PS, but seems to be a pain being bit map orientated. Really just want to use a pencil tool or something (good with the pen tool, but don't want to spend the time) to quickly draw out a vector sketch. When I use the free form pencil tool, sometimes two lines/paths will combine unexpectedly. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Cin

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
What happens (not) if you DoubleClick the Pencil Tool and deselect Keep Selected?
It works, that's what happens!!  T hanks Jacob and Wade, there was no way I was going to find that one on my own, I wasn't even close. That's what's so nice about these forums. Sometimes Help, Search, Google, etc. just doesn't cut it like a real person. Thank you both again. Cin
PS. Is there a short cut to change the line size on the fly? In PS, it's the bracket keys, but they don't seem to work here. Not complaining, and just happy to have the other solved, but just wondering.

  • What software is included?

I went to the MacBook Pro's specs page and read on the included software list which is:
"Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger (includes Spotlight, Dashboard, Mail, iChat AV, Safari, Address Book, QuickTime, iCal, DVD Player, Xcode Developer Tools)
iLife ’06 (includes iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie HD, iDVD, iWeb, GarageBand), Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac Test Drive, iWork ’06 (30-day trial), QuickBooks for Mac New User Edition, Comic Life, FileMaker Pro trial, Omni Outliner
    Photo Booth
    Front Row.
My question is, does the MacBook Pro come with World Book '05/'06 or AppleWorks? And is the Comic Life, and OmniOutliner a trial or a full program? And if I have iWork '06 preinstalled will the trial still be installed?
    Thanks

My question is, does the MacBook Pro come with World

My macbook didn't come with World Book anything
And is the Comic Life, and OmniOutliner a trial or a full

OmniOutine is a feature restricted demo
Comic Life seems pretty fully functional
And if I have iWork '06 preinstalled will the trial still > be installed?
That I can't comment on, I got it after i'd used the trial.

  • Software include with MBP

What versions of the software come with your MBP? Eg, what version of omnioutliner? comic life? etc
    Thanks

This is what Apple says. I don't know if this specifically answers your question.

  • Some photos don't show in LIbrary view--just the outlines of them

Tonight I tried to transfer a bunch of digital photos from a CD my daughter burned into my iPhoto library, into the 2006 year folder.
I opened the CD and in the icon view, the pictures looked fine--jpeg files.
After I transferred them, these pictures don't show in my initial iPhoto window (the one that opens first when you click on iPhoto in the Dock, and shows all the pictures in my Library sorted by (in my case) roll/date.
Then photo thumbnails from years prior to 2005 show up, fine, but for the most recent year of pictures, all I get are the outlines of where the thumbnails ought to show. When I click on one of the blank thumbnails, of course I get a blank ...but the frame in the lower left shows the ID info for the picture and the picture counts, etc.
I can open the folders from the Pictures file and see them...they just won't show up in the overall Library window.
So...I moved the transferred ones out of the iPhoto library and just put them in the Pictures folder for now.
But what did I do? And how do I "fix it" to make all the thumbnails show up again? This is probably some simple thing...but I can't figure it out. I tried showing just the last 12 months...and I get all the blank outlines.
    G4 iBook   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Using iPhoto 5, 768MB RAM,

    Hi john,
First problem. You need to import photos into the iPhoto Library the correct way which is while iPhoto is open. Drag the photos out of where you put them (you already did) now you can import them into iPhoto from there.
Read on for more info....--First thing to know and remember is this...Do not drag any images, folder of images into the iPhoto Library in the Finder. Images have to be imported into iPhoto within the application. Do not scan images and save them into the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder. Save them to another location such as the Pictures folder or even the desktop. You can then import them into iPhoto.
If you have already put files/folders in the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder then you will also find out that if you try to import them into iPhoto you will get an error message. No worry, just drag them to the desktop and import from there.
--All images that you import are shown in the library view. You can choose how you want to view, by rolls, by date, by rating, etc. When you put images in an Album, slideshow, book, etc, you are actually just putting pointers to those images in the library. You are not adding more images. If you delete an image from the Album it will still be in the library. If you delete an image from the library it is deleted from iPhoto's database and your hard drive (unless you have it backed up somewhere else)
--You have a folder of images on your hard drive and want to import them into iPhoto. Drag the folder of images into an open iPhoto Library window and the folder of photos will be copied into the library, resulting in a new roll with the name of the folder. You now have two copies of those photos, the ones in iPhoto's database and the ones on your desktop. You can keep the ones on your desktop that you just imported as backup or you can delete that folder.
-- you scan a picture/pictures and save it in a folder. You cannot scan directly into iPhoto or the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder.
You want all your photos in iPhoto so you import them into iPhoto.
Now you have two copies of that picture/pictures, so you can delete the originals that were in the scanned folder and keep the one/ones that were imported into iPhoto.
-- You download pictures from your camera into iPhoto.
There is now one copy of each of the pictures. (DO NOT HAVE IPHOTO DELETE THE IMAGES FROM YOUR CAMERA! DELETE THEM MANUALLY WITH THE CAMERA-if something goes wrong with the import and they are never imported and then they are deleted from the camera you might end up losing those images)
You want to change something about a picture you imported, such as
cropping it or changing the size, or changing the orientation.
Once you do that to a picture, you now have two copies of the picture
in iPhoto, the original and the edited one. The edited one will be in the library organize view. The original is packed away in an Original folder in your iPhoto Library folder under the date of the roll. You can always revert to the original by control clicking on the photo and choose "revert to orginal" You will not have this choice if you used iPhoto Diet to get rid of the Originals.
(a quick note on cropping within iPhoto...when you are in edit mode, you automatically will be in the crop mode with cross hairs to highlight the crop area. To finish cropping you must click the crop button and then go back to library view and your cropped picture will be there.
3.You want to use Photoshop or another graphic program to edit a picture in your iPhoto library.
You can open up prefs for iPhoto and choose "when double clicking on
photo ..do" choose "other" and select Photoshop. Now you can edit all
pictures in your iPhoto library in PhotoShop by double clicking. If you save the photo with the same name and as a flattened file it will be saved right into iPhoto and you will see the changes. If you don't want to save it into iPhoto then do a "save as" and save to the desktop. You will then have the original photo still in iPhoto and your new edited photo on the desktop.
Or, with iPhoto open, you can drag a picture from the library window
to your desktop (you see a + sign on the pic you are dragging). You now
have two of the same picture, one in the iPhoto library and one on your desktop. You can open up the one on your desktop in any graphic program and work on it. The one in iPhoto stays the same. You can also share/export the picture/pictures to your desktop or folder to work on them or do batch processing, etc. You will still have the originals in your iPhoto Library.
Or, you can open up the ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library/folders and option drag any
picture out of the folder to your desktop. Notice that you will see a plus sign while dragging the photo. This is copying the file to your desktop
I would advise anyone not to do this as they might forget to use the option key and drag the photo out. Next time you open iPhoto the photo will be missing.

    About the iPhoto Library folder
Don't forget that in Library view you can Control click on any picture and get a contextual menu with many options. One is to revert to original.
Now to get to your next problem...do a "get info" on your iPhoto Library folder.

  • Many of my photos appear briefly as I scroll down the page then disappear leaving a box outlined with a broken-line.  The menu bar says that I have 300 pictures hidden, but I am unable to get them unhidden.

I am experiencing difficulty with iPhoto '11.  Some of more recent photos can not be accessed.  As I scroll down the page of photos, the most recent ones appear briefly, then disappear to be replaced with a box outlined by a broken-line.  The menu bar says that I have 317 photos hidden.  Hiding photos is not something that I normally do, can't imagine why these are hidden.  Anyway, when I try to unhide the photos, I can view them as an event, but if I click on a single photo, or try to move it into an album, the photo does not display.  Instead I get a dark exclamation point within a triangle.  Another problem with these same photos is on the event page there is no key photo for these events only a dark screen.  I can't find an answer to my problem.  Has anyone experienced this?  What is the problem and how can I correct it?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Outline of objects in photos are grainy when viewed at 16.67% but not at 25%.  Messes up editing

    Hello,
I have recently been having this problem where the outlines of objects in photos is grainy at certain magnifications.  It only started recently and I haven't made any setting changes in Photoshop nor have I changed my monitor or video card settings.  My last photos were shot with an ISO of 400.  I always shoot in Raw and the photos aren't grainy in the Raw viewer.  The graininess isn't only visible at 16.67% but also at 33.33%.  But everything is fine at 25% and everything higher than 33.33%.  The problem is just that 16.67% is the best size to use while editing the picture.  The picture on the left is the same file just viewed at 16.67% while the right is viewed at 25%.
Any help would be very appreciated.

  • Time Machine backup of external iPhoto library shows recent photos only as outline, no image. Any suggestions?

The Time Machine backup of my external iPhoto library shows all pictures 'now' but previous backups show the most recent pictures only as box outlines, some with a curled corner. How can I see all pictures to make sure TM has them? And if I would need to restore photos from TM can I do this one picture at a time or only the whole library? If I upgrade to iPhoto 11, a more recent OS, or both, do the answers to any of these questions change?
    Many thanks!

You can not use the iPhoto library while it is a TM backup - you must restore it to use it - and you must restore it all

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Creating photo book in previous version of iLife.  Text block outlines.

Creating photo book in previous version of iLife.  Want to leave the "default" photo information text block blank.  Can delete text, but block outline remains, albeit empty.  Will empty block outline print in final book?

The text block area will not show when the book is converted to a PDF file for uploading and printing.  Do as Terence suggested and create a PDF file of the book according to this Apple document, iPhoto, Aperture: Previewing an order in iPhoto or Aperture, and check the book before ordering.  Keep the file to compare with the printed copy when you receive it.

  • Import dialog shows iPhone twice, and photo list only shows outlines

In Aperture 2.1.2 I have been able to import photos from my iPhone until just recently. Now the import dialog shows three choices of import devices/locations, Local Disk, RJH iPhone and a second RJH iPhone. If I select either iPhone the main window displays outlines of 7 images but no picture information except for the filename. If I actually try to import the pics it says 'Import completed with errors, the following files were not imported' and it lists all the filenames. One of the iPhone devices shows up in the import list EVEN WHEN THE iPHONE IS NOT CONNECTED!
I'm sure there is a plist or something that has the list of import devices bu I have not been able to find it despite extended web and support searches.
    Anyone heard of this?

OK, I have since discovered that the second iPhone device is listed only when my iPhone is plugged into a DIFFERENT USB port on my MBP. If I plug it into the same port I usually use, it is only listed one. However, both Aperture and iPhoto still see one iPhone device whether it is plugged in or not, and both show images with outlines only and won't import photos. So strange
