Outlook 2007 hangs when Calendar tab is clicked

I am using Windows Vista on a Sony Notebook with Outlook 2007 SP1 connected to exchange server 2003.  I had a problem that my outlook worked fine except for one thing: it hanged whenever I clicked on the calendar tab.  I then had to restart my outlook, there was no other way out of the problem.
Investigating the problem it occurred that when I clicked on individual dates on the calendar displayed on the front screen, the calendar did display EXCEPT when TODAY was selected.  Any other date worked fine except the current date.  This was true for any date, in such a manner that today would freeze up, but on the next day the same date (which was then yesterday) did not hang anymore.
After a long while I accidentally found the solution to this problem.  You will notice when the calendar is displayed in the default calendar view (month/week/day with preview), at the bottom of the screen there is also a part where today's tasks are displayed.  I edited the view and removed the display of tasks in the calendar screen, and suddenly the calendar did not hang anymore.  It appeared that some item amongst the tasks caused the crash, but when the tasks are displayed in the task tab, Outlook does not hang.
So, if your Outlook 2007 hangs whenever you click on the calendar tab, edit your calendar view and disable the display of the task/todo list in the calendar view.  This might solve your problem like it did for me.

If I could only get to the Calendar tab to check the settings again I would. But Outlook is hanging CONSTANTLY. I haven't been able to exit the application normally in more than 10 days - it's always via Task Manager after an application hang. This happened all the sudden - literally - in the last 10 days. I haven't changed anything but I do have automatic updates - wondering if there's something in one of the latest that is causing this? here's the text I pulled from the details:

I'm also having this same problem after trying everything in this thread! Am also using Windows 7 RC 64-Bit and Office 2007 SP1. Problem only started happening about 5 days ago, and it is driving me insane! I've done everything suggested and the problem remains - even after reinstalling the OS!
Please fix your broken software, Microsoft. I'm seriously considering moving to Thunderbird or something - anything - that works.

  • Outlook 2007 hangs when clicking the To button in a new email

    Hello,
I have a person whose Outlook 2007 hangs whenever they create a new email and click the To button to bring up the GAL.  By hangs, I mean it becomes unresponsive and you have to End Task the new email, which causes Outlook itself to crash.  I've tried the following:
    Repairing Office
    Uninstalling/Reinstalling Office
    Creating a new profile
The only thing that fixes it is running Outlook.exe /safe, but that's not an acceptable long term solution.  I have tried disabling all add-ons and running Outlook normally, but it still hangs.
If anyone has any ideas or can help in any way, I would really appreciate it.

Step 1: Disable the addins in Outlook 2007:
On the Tools menu, click Trust Center, and then click Add-ins.
In the Add-ins box, identify the add-in that you want to enable or disable and note the Add-in type located in the Type column.
Select the Add-in type in the Manage box and then click Go.
Select or clear the check box for the Add-in that you want enable or disable and then click OK.
Step 2: If you have bigger PST/OST files then it may take a while to load - during the time, it may become unresponsive. Just for testing, remove the PST file and reopen the
Step 3: Also you can try opening the Outlook in Online mode (if you currently use Outlook in Cached mode)
Step 4: Make sure Outlook 2007 is updated with Service Pack 2 - its known for performance improvements. FYI: you can refer the following blogpost: http://blogs.msdn.com/deva/archive/2009/04/28/download-microsoft-office-suite-service-pack-2.aspx
Step 5: You can control the running add-ins - which needs to run: By default, Outlook allows any installed add-in to run. You can restrict Outlook to run only those add-ins that are digitally signed by applying the Warnings for signed macros; all unsigned macros are disabled setting to add-ins, as follows:
On the Tools menu, click Trust Center.
In the left pane, click Macro Security.
Click Warnings for signed macros; all unsigned macros are disabled.
In the left pane, click Add-ins.
Select the Apply macro security settings to installed add-ins check box.
You can try the above steps and let me know whether this resolves the issue or not?

  • ICloud integration causes Outlook to hang when switching to Calendar for a LONG TIME?

I've been working on integrating iCloud (contacts and calendar) into outlook (tried 2007 & 2010).  With 3 kids I have to integrate our home and work calendars if we expect to have any chance of remembering anything.
I thought I had found a solution, using the basic windows iCloud control panel and then using a free piece of software from CodeTwo - http://www.codetwo.com/sync-for-icloud/ - which essentially just keeps any of your outlook folders (contacts, calendar, etc) in sync with one of the iCloud generated folders.  One way either direction or Two way.
This all worked just fine... except...through process of elimination I found that once the iCloud control panel has generated it's iCloud 'pst' and Outlook is opening it; that Outlook takes an excruciatingly long time (minutes) to switch into the Calendar.  I don't see this behavior when switching to Contacts or back to Mail.  This persists even if I turn syncing for anything outlook related off at the iCloud control panel, presumably because the iCloud folders are still present in outlook.  It isn't until I remove them, that things go back to normal.
Curiously, I'm doing this on two different pc's.  One has normal Outlook (local files) and all works fine, while the other has an Exchange Server account, it's the one that's hanging.
    windows 7 64bit
outlook 2007 & 2010 (with an exchange account)
iCloud control panel 1.1 (64 bit)

Yes, I do have all the latest updates.  I even ran a test where I exported all my appointments out of my calendar, then deleted them off the exchange server.  This still didn't help.
I was able to get a coworker to run the control panel on his work PC, and he did not see the problem.
Then, I added the exchange account to my home PC on Office 2007 (our exchange server can do this through the outlook web access server) and then the problem showed up there as well.
All I can figure is that there must be some key difference between my outlook account and his, although I can't imagine what that might be.  I'm not inclined to push our IT dept to investigate, it's just not worth the pain of trying to explain the problem to them, just to be told 'we don't support apple products'... i know, i know... just please check this for me.... anyway, not worth it.
I've since rolled everything back into a central gmail account (contacts, calendar) and am using that as the 'cloud' to keep things sync'd.  I'm using a relatively cheap piece of software called 'gsyncit' (http://www.fieldstonsoftware.com/software/gsyncit3/index.shtml) and it seems to be doing the job quite well.  In reality, this is no less integrated than iCloud since that required an extra service to keep things sync'd as well.
It's highly configurable, so i feel like I have much more control over what sync's to what.. no complaints so far.
thanks for the suggestions and attempts to help!

  • Outlook 2007 and iPhone Calendar All-Day events not displaying correctly

I recently took the 3.1.3 update for my iphone and have since noticed that syncing all-day events from my Outlook 2007 exchange environment to the iphone is not working correctly. The all-day flag on the iphone is not being checked, thus the event shows up all over the calendar instead of just a single item at the top of the calendar. This only happens for multi-day events. Single-day, all day events show fine. Here's the tests I did:
    1. Created a single day, all-day event for tomorrow June 18 in Outlook 2007. Made sure that they all-day checkbox was checked in Outlook. Waited for the sync and it shows up fine in iPhone calendar. There is a single line at the top of the "Day" view that lists the event. When you look at the event, the all-day checkbox is checked in iphone calendar.
    2. Next I updated the event in Outlook to make it a multi-day, all day event. I changed the end date to be June 19. I made sure to leave the all day checkbox checked in Outlook. Once synced, the all day checkbox on the iphone is now unchecked and as a result the event takes up the whole "Day" view for both days.
Is there a solution for this? Only seen this since I updated to the 3.1.3 firmware. All events show up the right way in Outlook. It is only the iPhone calendar that shows them wrong. Thanks in advance for any help.

    Same problem here.
All Day events entered in Outlook 2007 on my work machine that have ALL DAY checked and are only on that ONE Day, seem to come out fine. If however we have an all-day event that goes multiple days, then it enters it on my iphone taking up 00:00-00:00, which is very messy if you have two ALL-day envents on the same day (when tracking different personnel for example).
I have noticed the real annoying item though is that changing it on my iPhone 4 directly, that once I put in the right start and end dates, and choose ALL DAY, about 5 seconds later it actually changes the START DAY! This makes you go back to change the start day, then it changes the end day so you change that, and now finally all sorted.
This NEVER happened on my iPhone3G that I have used with Excahgne for over two years now. Only since I got my iPhone4.
    PLEASE Apple, fix this!!!!

  • Outlook 2007 Search emails disappear after single-click

    Greetings,
I have at least two users that have a peculiar problem. For each, when they perform a search of their emails via Outlook 2007 (against Exchange 2010) and receive the results, upon clicking on some emails, the email clicked on will disappear from the search
results instantly. There is almost no time for the user to read the email after selecting it from the search results because it disappears so fast. These are not unread emails and it doesn't happen to all emails they click on within the search results so I
am leaning away from there being a filter applied.
If they re-run the search, the emails show back up again so it doesn't appear that they are truly deleted in any way. The users are not using Cached Exchange Mode.
Again, this is only happening for emails that show up as a result of a search, not in the users' regular inbox or other folders.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
It doesn't sound like an expected experience in Outlook and I didn't reproduce it. Just confirm, are the users using Instant Search or Advanced Find? Please also confirm if the same problem persists on OWA.
I doubt if it's caused by any 3rd-party add-ins, we can start Outlook in Safe Mode:
Press Win + R and type “outlook.exe /safe” in the blank box, then press Enter.
If there’s no problem when searching in Safe Mode, disable the suspicious add-ins to verify which add-ins caused this issue.
We can also have the users start Outlook with the switch "/cleanviews", this will reset all custom views and change back to the default view, test if this helps.

  • Exchange/Outlook 2007 and Oracle Calendar Collaboration

    Hi Guys!
I have a situation here in my incoming migration project. Is it really possible that an Oracle Calendar and Exchange/Outlook 2007 Calendar will collaborate or synchronize with each other? I only know that theres an Oracle Connector for Outlook in Oracle Collaboration suite, which will synchronize to Exchange/outlook calendar, but i didnt heard if the Exchange/Outlook Calendar will synchronized to Oracle Calendar simulataneously.
Please let me know if its possible or if theres a work around on this since we preferred them both to exists.
Thanks and i look forward on your replies.

  • ITunes does not recognize Outlook 2007 contacts or calendar

I have a PC running Vista and Outlook 2007. I have Microsoft Exchange Server, and local Oulook with a Personal folder with contact and calendar groups. I do not have a business account on my new iPhone 3G. I just want to bring over my personal contacts and calendar. When I connect the phone (without being connected to MS Exchange Server), iTunes does not give me a choice of any of my personal contacts or calendar groups. It only shows me the Exchange Server "calendar" and "contacts". I went ahead and did a sunch of the calendar, and got the Exchange Server calendar. This is not what I wanted.
I would imagine other people have the same configuration and want to do the same thing, hoping someone solved this. iPhone tech support has not been able to solve it yet. It seems like iTunes can't recognize my personal folders.
I hope someone might have an answer. Thanks for reading my issue.

  • Outlook 2010 hangs when loading in "processing"

After upgrading from Windows 7 home to ultimate I am having problems with Outlook 2010.  When staring the program hanks up on "processing"
Any idea what I can do to resolve this problem?
    Pheresisman

    Hi,
First, I suggest you try to start Outlook 2010 in safe mode [hold ctrl key while startup] to see if this issue is caused by some add-ins.
If it works fine in this situation, try to disable add-ins.
Click the File menu –> Options link –> Navigate to Add-Ins options.
    Select
Disabled Items in the Manage dropdown and click the
Go button. This would display the following Disabled Items window using which you can see and also
re-enable the disabled add-in. You can select the ones you wish to re-enable and click the Enable button.
Second, ensure Outlook 2010 are not running in compatibility mode,
    Locate C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14 Outlook.exe
    Right-click
    Outlook.exe, and then click Properties.
    On the
Compatibility tab, click to clear the Run this program in compatibility mode for check box.
    Click
OK and try to start Outlook again.
    Hope that helps.

  • IE7 hangs when closing tab

I have an applet which has been functioning fine, but with the introduction of IE7 and tabs, I suddenly have an issue. We run a web site for our users, through which, they view PDF files. Simply, users view PDF files through a web browser (with the AcrobatReader plug-in), which are displayed via 'getAppletContext.showDocument(URL, "_blank")'. This is a fairly small user community, and we require that AcrobatReader is present on their machines. As I mentioned, this has been working fine with no issues until IE7. Now that users can configure their web browsers to open all pop-ups in a tab, rather than a new browser instance, we have constant reports of the browser 'hanging' when they try to close the tab containing the PDF viewer. Again, there is no issue if their browser is configured to open a new browser instance. Any ideas?

    DrClap wrote:
It's been a while since this happened, but I had a problem where Acrobat wouldn't start up, it would just hang with a blank screen. When I went and cleared out the temp directories that problem went away. The acrobat plugin has been broken for many, many, many years. Possibly forever.
It's not uncommon to launch IE. Open PDFs through IE. Close IE. Find one or even multiple orphaned acrobat processes running. When you get enough of these they will crash acrobat if you attempt to open new ones.

  • Calendar+iCloud to Outlook 2007 - not supported calendar message . ics

    Consider this
    Two new macs
    1. MacA set up with iCLoud to sync Calendars
    2. MacB set up not to use iCloud
Test on MacA (my Wifes) used for her work, across iPhone, iMac, MBP
Send invite from Calendar on the Mac to my work address  [email protected] and reciever on Outlook 2007 from MacA
gets Name has invited you to <Event Namre> but the attached .ics enty
has name "not supported calendar message.ics"
The attached body coantains a web page screen shot to interact with icloud
In additaion the reply address is [email protected] and an unintelligble email address
This mac has iCloud as the account in Calendar
Test on MacB used for fun - not connected to any work
Send invite from Calendar onthe Mac  to my work address  [email protected] from MacB
gets Event invitation <Event Name> and  the attached .ics enty
works as expected. Accept the invite and it gets put in your Outlook calendar as you would expert
Right reply address, right behavior on reply.
Ths imac has calander accounts to use gmail.
I kind of get why. But is there anyway solve the issue with with MacA.
My wife's invites for her work will not behave correctly to whoever her clients are.
But I want iCloud to sync Calendars - and send invites properly not add all the iCloud functionality over the top

Yes it is elsewhere, however I have a Vista 32-bit that doesn't work and a Windows/7 64bit that doesn't work.  I think it's just generally "bad code" and OBVIOUSLY the person that was supposed to test it didn't.  I can't uninstall on my Vista machine because it will break all my Contacts and Calendar sharing too.  Therefore, for now, I guess I will just have to give up on sharing pictures until they get it fixed.
Which, BTW, has been an AWFULLY LONG TIME already.  I installed v2 over a week ago and Apple hasn't even acknowledged anywhere I've seen that they have an issue.
'Bout time to start sending emails to the press:  Maybe they can goad Apple into doing something.
There are several articles expounding about how great it is:  I will be replying to all I can find that it DOES NOT WORK AND APPLE DOES NOT CARE.  They sold several million new phones, all made in China, and now they are fat, dumb and happy.

    Hello,
Using Exchange 2010 and Outlook 2007 client. User has access to a shared Calendar in Public Folder. She makes an Recurrence Appt in Public Folder and invites herself to Appt. If she changes one of the future apt (Location change or something like that) it

    thank you for any help.

    Hi Michael,
Please first make sure she has installed all available updates for Outlook 2007.
In addition, please have the user temporarily turn off his antivirus and test again.
If still no luck, we may try testing with a new Outlook profile. See:

  • FF hangs, does not launch ,hangs when new tab opened.

FF hangs when launched and when new tab is opened , same is the case when launched in safe mode ,I have reinstalled the browser but the issue persisits.
EDIT: Found a folder on my desktop "old firefox data"

Previous versions of Firefox used to cause web pages to hang, freezing everything. Firefox 15.0.1 has gone one step further /
It hangs immediately, as soon as the welcome message ( and the picture showing a kind of crop circle) appears.
This means having to Force quit... I have done just that ( and relaunched ) three times, without success. I've also trashed FF and reinstalled it three times. No joy.
There may be a "fix" of some sort, but it shouldn't be necessary : Safari, Chrome, Opera, Camino, and SeaMonkey work fine "straight out of the box". So why not Firefox?
Besides, a "fix" would be impossible since I'd have to launch FF to apply it, and as I said, it hangs/freezes immediately.
    I'm using a Mac, system 10.6.8.
