Outlook 2007 on terminal services with server 2008 repeatedly crashes

I updated my clients server 2008 to SP2 from SP1 and it kills Outlook. I previously (a month ago) did a complete uninstall of SP2 along with all updates that were installed that day, re-installed Office 2007 Standard and it worked just fine.
I have turned off DEP, ran some registry items that ive found online and spent hours on this!  The server is working great as SP2 fixed a lot of "weird" issues. BUT Outlook and ONLY Outlook is crashing whenever you start the program.  It
will not even let me try and start a new message, reply, etc.  It stops at send/receive and usually at 66%
any help would be wonderful!

  • How to synchronize Outlook 2007 Calendar and Tasks with my iPhone through use of iCloud

How can I synchronize Outlook 2007 Calendar and Tasks with my iPhone through use of iCloud?

    Hello farar,
Thank you for the question.  It sounds like you are trying to synchronize your Outlook Calendar with your iPhone using iCloud.
If you have not setup iCloud, the following resource has steps you can take to set up iCloud on your computer and your iPhone:
iCloud -Learn how to set up iCloud on all your devices
    http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/
Once you have iCloud set up, you can enable the Calendar setting in the iCloud settings on both your computer and iPad to sync your Calendar events.  Use the following article for steps to enable this feature:

  • Outlook 2007 on Terminal Server cannot manage Public Folder Favorites after Migration to Exchange 2013

    Hi,
we are running a Server 2008 R2 as a Terminal Server with Outlook 2007 SP3 (incl Nov 2012 Update 12.0.6665.5000) which is known as fully supported with Exchange 2013.
With Exchange Server 2007 we did not have any issues. But after having successfully migrated to Exchange 2013 we cannot manage our public folders favorites from these clients anymore.
As we are running Outlook 2007 on a WTS we can not use Exchange Cache Mode and so we can also not download Public-Folders-Favorites as an option. Whenever we try to delete existing favorites or when we try to delete public folders with content or subfolders
there will be an error msg that says that it cannot be deleted and that there may be no sufficient permissions. But this IS NOT the issue NOR the solution as I have full admin rights and am owner of the public folders.
On single fat clients with Outlook 2007 with Exchange Cache Mode enabled we can manage the favorites and the public folders without problem.
We need to be able to manage the favorites of all users (circa 50-60 users) from the WTS with Outlookm 2007. I have no more ideas right now. Does anyone know how to get this settled?
    Thanks, Paula

    Hi,
Based on the description, users could access public folders successfully, but when they tried to manage public folder favorites or wanted to remove specified folders, they got error message of no sufficient permissions.
     Is it right?
You mentioned on single fat clients with Outlook 2007 with Exchange Cache Mode enabled, user can operate normally. Is this a WTS with Outlook 2007 installed?
If possible, please switch this Outlook client from cached mode to online mode to check result.
    Best regards,

  • Outlook 2007 opens wrong mailbox on Windows 2008 R2 RDSH

    Hi,
For a few weeks now we randomly receive messages from our users that they cannot access outlook 2007 (connecting to exchange 2010 sp3 ru5 using DAG). When investigating it turns out that outlook tries to open a different users mailbox. We never had this
    problem before.
Does anyone knows how to solve this. When adding the right credentials it works good. It seems like autodiscovering fails somewhere but I don't know for sure.
    Some help needed.
    best regards
    Sijtze van Dellen

Cached Exchange mode is possible within a TS environment on Windows Server 2003. It is also Possible with Windows Server 2008 R2. It is however not recommended.
Please note, the following instructions apply to the following products only (although can most likely apply to others). As always, edit the registry at your own risk, but I have not had any issues with this.
    -Server 2003 TS & Server 2008 R2 RDS
    -Outlook 2003/2007
    Server 2003 TS & Outlook 2003/2007:
1.) Open the registry editor on the account needing access to cached mode.
2.) Navigate to the following key:
    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\%profilename%\13dbb0c8aa05101a9bb000aa002fc45a
    3.) Edit the following key:
    00036601     (REG_BINARY)
4.) Depending on what you are after, change the value to one of the following:
    enabled value;  84 01 00 00
    enabled with Public Folders/Favorites: 84 05 00 00
    disabled value; 04 00 00 00
    Server 2008 R2 RDS & Outlook 2003/2007:
(Note - You will need to know how to identify user by SID. Instructions on this at the bottom)
(Note- User must be logged in to appear in HKEY_Users)
1.) Open the registry editor on the admin account.
2.) Navigate to the following key:
    HKEY_USERS\%userSID%\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\%profilename%\13dbb0c8aa05101a9bb000aa002fc45a
    3.) Edit the following key:
    00036601     (REG_BINARY)
4.) Depending on what you are after, change the value to one of the following:
    enabled value;  84 01 00 00
    enabled with Public Folders/Favorites: 84 05 00 00
    disabled value; 04 00 00 00
    How to identify User's SID:
1.) Open Registry Editor and navigate to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
2.) Under the ProfileList key, you will see the SIDs. By selecting each one individually, you can look at the value entry and see what user name is associated with that particular SID

  • Outlook 2007 doesn't sync with iphone 4

I run outlook 2007 on my desktop pc and had no problem syncing with my iphone 4.  Then I reformatted the computer and now outlook will not sync.  It goes through the motions but nothing happens.  I use outlook only for the calendar.

    Hey there cabgman,
It sounds like you are unable to sync your Outlook information to your iPhone after having reinstalled your OS. I would use the troubleshooting in the following article for Outlook syncing on Windows to help resolve the issue, named:
Troubleshooting Sync Services on Windows with Microsoft Outlook 2003, Outlook 2007, or Outlook 2010
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2776
Start with these steps, and work your way down the article as needed:
Which option are you using to store your data in Microsoft Outlook?
By default, your Outlook data is stored in Personal Folders format (PST) unless you are using an Exchange Server to access your data. If you are using Outlook with an Exchange Server, your data may be stored in an OST file if you have Cached Exchange Mode turned on. An iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch syncing via iTunes will sync with the default PST or OST file. When using an OST file, only information stored locally, or cached on your computer, will be available to sync.
Note: You may be able to sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch directly with your Exchange server. For more information on syncing directly with an Exchange server, contact your Exchange Administrator. There are resources for Exchange Administrators, including the iPhone Enterprise Deployment guide onwww.apple.com/support/iphone/enterprise.
    Back up your data
Refer to this Microsoft article for steps to back up the data in your PST file used by Microsoft Outlook 2003 or Microsoft Outlook 2007. This Microsoft article explains where the Microsoft Outlook 2010 data files are located.
For information about backing up the data in your OST file, contact your Exchange Administrator. Your OST file should be on the server and backed up when the server is backed up.
Before troubleshooting, it is recommended that you make a copy of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch backup in a safe place. For more information about where to find the backup and what information it contains, refer to About backups.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Powershell - SNMP Service Install (Server 2008)

Hello, so this is a follow up to the assistance that was provided to me yesterday about checking to see if the SNMP service was installed across multiple servers.  I was able to gather a list of devices that require the SNMP service to be installed,
and (thankfully) most of them are Server 2008 machines.  The pre-2008 machines I will just hit manually, since there are less than 20 of them, and to minimize confusion, and a lack of powershell knowledge from my side.
I have approximately 120 servers that will require the service to be installed onto them, and was looking to do this via powershell.  Luckily, I was able to find this great script online, and I have tested it with my own variables inserted, and it works
great (for one server, ran manually on it).  I was wondering if somebody could help me figure out how to get the script to do the following two things:
    1.  Install the SNMP service to multiple servers from a text file (I attempted this with the get-content).
    2.  Output the results to either a text file or a csv file (also tried this as can be seen below).
Here is the script, with what I tried (and failed).  The only two lines of code that are mine, are the very top one and the very bottom one, I will bold them to indicate that.  Thanks for any help that may be offered.

  • Outlook 2007 PDF preview on Windows Server 2003?

Simple question. Does the new (Reader 8.1) PDF Preview feature for Outlook 2007 work in Windows Server 2003? Or is it only for XP and Vista? The patch notes strongly suggest the latter, but in other places (such as a blog on this site) there are notes explicitly stating that the feature should work in server operating systems.
We happen to be running Citrix (PS4.5) on this server as well, but I'm not convinced that's material: the feature doesn't work running Outlook on the server's own console.
When I attempt to preview a PDF in Outlook 2007, I am told, "This file cannot be previewed because of an error with the following previewer: Adobe PDF Preview Handler".
Before I go much farther with troubleshooting this, can anyone confirm firsthand that PDF previewing works in Outlook 2007 on Server 2003?

I was using Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.2 and Outlook 2007 on Server 2003 SP2 and the Adobe PDF Preview Handler worked.
Unfortunately, it stopped working after some time and I'm pretty sure I did not make any changes to the system. However, I did try to uninstall, reinstall and update Adobe Acrobat but still, it does not work.
Any ideas why this is happening how to resolve it?
    Many thanks.

  • Exchange 2013 S/MIME with Server 2008 R2

So I am trying to configure S/MIME on my 2013 Exchange server, but the process in which I need to export the rootca is vague and only applies to Server 2012/Windows 8 because of the export-certificate command.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh848628.aspx
My domain consists of a single DC/CA and member server that hosts Exchange.  Both servers are on Server 2008 R2, and I have installed PowerShell v4.0 on my DC to try an export the certificate but it continues to fail with:
export-certificate : The term 'export-certificate' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file,
or operable program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and
    try again.
The examples given to set up the export are equally vague:
PS C:\>$cert= (Get-ChildItem -Path cert:\CurrentUser\My\EEDEF61D4FF6EDBAAD538BB08CCAADDC3EE28FF) <--What path is this referencing??If anybody has experience doing this I would greatly appreciate some guidance.Mike

I was able to figure out the export portion.  I needed to select both of my Root CA's certificates then run through the export wizard and export to .sst was available.  Now the problem I'm having is when attempt to import the certs into Exchange
    2013.
    [PS] C:\>Set-SmimeConfig -SMIMECertificateIssuingCA (Get-Content rootca1.sst -Encoding Byte)
Starting a command on the remote server failed with the following error message : The WinRM client sent a request to the remote WS-Management service and was notified that the request size exceeded the configured MaxEnvelopeSize quota.

  • Discover Terminal Services Licensing Server

    Hi,
We need to discover terminal server in our environment. There are some clients which are already using terminal services. Whenever we enable any new server to use terminal services it didn't discover it automatically. We even didn't have sufficient information
of terminal server, IP, computer name etc.
Is there any way we can find the information of terminal server from clients already using terminal services?

You can check this from a management console but the Instructions vary depending on what version of Windows Server you are running.
You could just check the following the registry setting on a machine that is already configured...
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Terminal Services\License Servers on 2008 R2 or HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TermService\Parameters\LicenseServers\SpecifiedLicenseServers on 2012 R2

Hoping for some help with a very frustrating issue!
I have been syncing calendar and contacts on my iPhone 5 and Outlook 2007 using iCloud  2.1.3 (my PC is running Vista). All was well until the events I entered on the phone were showing up in Outlook, but not the other way around. I’ve tried the usual recommended steps: deselecting calendar and contacts in the iCloud control panel and then re-selecting, signing out of the panel and back in, and repairing the Outlook installation in control panel.  I even uninstalled iCloud on the PC and downloaded it again (same version).
The furthest I’ve gotten is step 2 (and once, step 3) of 7 while performing “Outlook Setup For iCloud.” At that point I get, “Your setup couldn’t be started because of an unexpected error.”  After the first attempt at all this, all my calendar events disappeared from Outlook, although they are still in iCloud calendar and on my phone.
Sound familiar?  Any ideas on how to solve this iCloud/Outlook issue?  Thanks much in advance!

  • How do I use long path names ("\\?\UNC\...") with Server 2008 roaming profiles?

    Hey folks!
    I administrate a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Domain with about 40 users on
Windows 7 SP1 clients. Because the users often switch between the many PCs, I am using Roaming Profiles which tend to produce errors with different application-specific paths and files inside the users profiles.
As one of many example, our standard mail application Thunderbird produces paths and files according to folders/subfolders and mails in a user's mailbox. Another one is Microsoft Office's Auto Recovery files which reside in a user's profile and can
    get very long.
These paths and filenames often extend the allowed max. path of about 256 characters, when (on log on or off) the synchronization process between the client and the server takes place, leading to errors in the event log and a notification to the user about
    the conflict:
"Event ID 1509 - Windows cannot copy file \\server\share\users\user123.v2\AppData\Roaming\looooong to location C:\Users\user123\AppData\Roaming\looooong. DETAIL - The filename or extension is too long."
In the long run this leads to different file versions on different clients which - in the case of Thunderbird - leads to missing mails.
After extensive searches and lectures of forums - including this - I haven't found a solution for this problem.
So my question is if there's a way to use the extended max path with roaming profiles and if so how do I get it to work?
I tried changing the profile path of a test user in the Active Directory user preferences from "\\server\share\profiles\test_user" to something like "\\?\UNC\server\share\profiles\test_user" without any changes in the system's behavior.
Also I think that because this is such a fundamental problem somebody must have come up with a solution for it...
    Thanks in advance,
    Nico

    Hi,
    Thanks for your posting.
The Event 1509 can happen if the destination path of the users profile is on a server with a long name and share folder name. For detail information, please refer to:

  • Outlook 2007 no longer syncing with iPhone

My Outlook 2007 calendars were syncing properly with my iPhone 4, until one day my daughter used my computer (Windows 7) to sync to her iPhone under her login.  Ever since, even though I logged back into my account, my main calendar hasn't been syncing with my iPhone, but her calendar has.
