Outlook 2010 and 2013 hang on when starting up after recent Windows Updates (April 2014)
Hello all,
I have roughly 140 or so installs of Outlook in my organization and I have been getting reports of Outlook hanging on startup. It seems to be associated with a windows update but I don't know which one. I have had success resolving the issue
by rolling back the recent updates (using system restore), but in this one case, there were 30 or so updates that were rolled back. Unfortunately, I had move quick on that computer. I had another computer yesterday with the same issue and have
a report of yet another today. I need to figure this out before it becomes and epidemic! Anyone else seeing this? It does not appear to effect everyone.
Hi,
If you are sure that recent Windows Updates caused this issue, We recommend you to remove the newly installed updates.
You don't have to roll back using system restore, just go to Control panel>Program and features>View installed updates and uninstall newly installed updates.
I currently haven't observed any user report the same issue. If this is confirmed by Microsoft that some recently released updates cause Outlook hangs problem, there will be a fixed version published later on; either a newer version or a new KB article.
Thanks,
Ethan Hua CHN

OWA receives mail long before Outlook (Exchange 2013 with Outlook 2010 and 2013)
I recently upgraded my Exchange environment to Exchange 2013 SP1. The Outlook users are now experiencing a delay when receiving email. When they do arrive they appear in batches, often 20-45 minutes after they were sent, from a mailbox on the same server.
Additionally, the mail appears instantly when you monitor the inbox using OWA. The users are experiencing this on both Outlook 2010 and 2013 clients configured in both cached and non-cached modes. This appears to be a problem with Outlook connecting to Exchange.
Any suggestion about how to correct this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!Hi,
From your description, when users use OWA, they can receive emails normally. But if they use Outlook 2010 or Outlook 2013, there is a delay in receiving emails.
I recommend you use the Outlook safe mode to determine whether the problem is caused by add-ins. Also, please make sure users have installed the Outlook latest Service Pack.
If the issue persist, please create a new profile and check the result.
Hope it helps.
Best regards,
Amy Wang

Outlook 2010 and 2013 are unable to connect but OWA (and mail routing) works fine
Hi-
Not sure why but this past Sunday (just after DST adjustment) outlook clients (using 2010 and 2013) were unable to connect to an Exchange 2013 server. OWA and mail routing (internal and external) is working fine. I've even tried on multiple machines
and all of them experience the same issue. On a new machine with a fresh version of outlook 2013 installed here is what happens:
Click on Outlook 2013
Click Next until the account setup is displayed.
Name and email is auto-populated
Established network connection is good
Searching for email address settings is good (once the self-signed exchange 2013 cert is accepted)
And then the logging onto the mail server fails. The first pop-up is:
The Connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.
Clicking "OK" is followed up with a window with the Microsoft Exchange connection info.
It lists Microsoft Exchange server which is populated with: GUID@<domain suffix>
Mailbox which is populated with: =SMTP:<Valid Email address>
On the Exchange Server I have noticed that the Web Management Service (WMSVC) is stopped and will not start. Starting the service outputs:
EventID 7024
"The Web Management Service terminated with the following service-specific error: Unspecified error"
Not really helpful :)
Since this is only happening with Outlook on multiple clients I'm expecting something with Exchange or the ability for outlook to connect to exchange.
Thanks in advance!Hi
I know this is an old post, but I'm having a very similar issue. I have CU6 installed and all other client connectivity apart from internal Outlook connectivity is working fine. I have distributed the new Self-Signed Certificate and the tested to verify
the clients trust it. I have tried on multiple machine with multiple accounts and none of them connect.
I'm at the stage of reinstalling, but I would rather troubleshoot the problem, just in case ever hit the same wall in the future. I have run Test-OutlookConnectivity with the following output;

Outlook 2010 "Server is unavailable" error when starting remote app
All,
I have recently built and configured a new server to run Remote Desktop Services. It in on Server 2008 R2 Standard 64-bit.
I have published numerous applications (e.g. Adobe, Visio, Project, etc. as well as Office 2010) to the host server. Everything works with the exception of Outlook 2010 (client of an Exchange 2010 server). When I or any of my users try to bring
it up in the RDS portal, it goes through the normal start-up of any Outlook first use and looks for an existing email account. As it is trying to load the user profile, an error pops up saying "The server is unavailable." Clicking "Retry" does
not work at all.
When I run Outlook directly from the RDS host server itself, it loads up and runs fine so I know the RDS server can contact the Exchange server.
Any ideas on why the Outlook application works on the host server but will not work when trying to run it through the RDS Web Access portal?
Thanks.

There are a couple of patches that you need to install and then a registry key that you have to add.

I am having issues trying to start up with Mountain Lion on my 2010 Mac Mini. Here's the scenario:
1) After starting up, I get the usual gray screen with Apple logo.
2) After a few minutes, a darker gray screen scrolls down and in the middle of this is a black dialogue box with reversed (white) text. This text, in multiple languages, reads: "You need to restart your computer." Then it goes on to instruct on how to shut it down and restart it.
3) I follow this instruction, but get the same dialogue box over and over agin.
Any ideas?
Thanks and best wishes. If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all. Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is on a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. If you're able to boot, launch the Console application in any of the following ways: ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.) ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens. ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid. Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the entire contents — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports. -
I can't find any tool to change this setting.
Before Firefox update, I had control over the screen setting. Now the page is double wide.It is possible that the screen is too wide.<br />
Open the system menu via Alt+Space and see if you can resize that window.<br />
If that works then close Firefox (File > Exit/Quit) to save that setting.<br />

I stumbled across a funny little problem yesterday after a rash of users calling wanting to know why rooms were declining their meeting requests..
The rooms were declining for perfectly legitimate reasons.. Conflicts or no end date but the accept/decline reply messages the rooms were sending out had no details in the message body when viewed from Outlook 2010 or 2013.
If message preview is enabled in Outlook 2013 you can read a few lines of the body in the inbox view but it's still blank when you open the message.
Reading pane is also blank.
Opening the message from OWA or my phone shows the complete message body.
Very odd. It reminds me of the bug in Exchange 2013 CU2 where meeting invites to external users were sent blank unless they were sent as iCalendar.
Maybe this will resolve itself when I load SP1 in a few weeks.
Any one else seeing this?
We are running 2013 CU 3Hi Scott,
I have tested in my Exchange 2013 CU1 environment and I can reproduce your issue in Outlook online mode. Please check whether the problematic users are using Outlook Online mode in Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013.
The issue doesn’t happen in OWA and Outlook Cached mode. Therefore, I recommend users can change their Outlook client to Cached mode as a workaround. To do it, we can:
Open Outlook, click File > Account Settings > Account Settings. Double-click the account, check Use Cached Exchange Mode > Next and finish it. Restart Outlook to use it in cached mode.
Thanks,
Winnie Liang

Hi All,
I migrated from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013. I have configured expired password reset and it works fine on OWA (for both internally and externally accessed users) and all computers joined to my domain running MS Outlook clients. However, my users wants
it to work for all MS Outlook client of computers not joined to my domain.
How can I go about this? Does expired password reset work on MS Outlook client (2007, 2010 and 2013) computers not joined to the domain?
Please, helpHello,
Based on my known, I'm afraid that there is no way to reset expired password if your Outlook client computers not joined to the domain.
For external users, we only reset password via owa.

Hebrew typing problem in Word 2010 and 2013 in Windows 7 64bit
Hello,
When I am trying in Word (2010 and 2013 32bit installation) to edit a line (inserting a new word for instance in the middle of the line) or start a new line in RTL or LTR Hebrew paragraph I must first type the SPACE char and then to type any other letter. When
I try firs to type a regular letter it is not typed.
It happens only if the Word is installed on a Windows 7 professional 64bit version on my HP 8570p laptop. I formatted the laptop and installed the same OS but 32bit, installed the Office 2010 and the Word works perfect in any language. I formatted the Laptop
again, re-installed again the 64bit OS, installed the Office 2010 again and same symptom - cant type Hebrew letters if not starting with SPACE. If I try to edit the same paragraph with English letters it works OK. When I start a new line with English letters
it works OK. It seem that this symptom happens when the type direction is right-to-left (after ALT-right SHIFT stroke).
This symptom is only in Word. In PowerPoint, in Excel or any other Office application it works fine.
When using Word 365 (not installed localy even I have a local Word 2013 installation) the Hebrew typing is working fine.
I didn't change the default setting options of the Word not after installing the 32bit OS nor the 64bit OS.
I prefer to use the 64bit OS and not the 32bit OS so I do not consider moving to 32bit OS.Hello,

went to empty my trash on the IMac and it contains folders between 2010 and 2013 called Mackintosh HD. Eac folder shows lots of other folders. It stated there were 118 files but when I started to empty the trash it was going up to over 127,009 files before I cancelled it. Am scared that if this trash emptying is done it is going to wipe the whole computer.
Can anyone help please?I restored the macbook from a time machine backup. Everything seems to work fine. Disk scans don't show errors and the weird sounds during shutdown are gone...
I still don't really trust the hard drive, though. -
Outlook 2010 vs 2013 - BITS + OAB download
Has the process/protocol by which Outlook downloads the OAB from Exchange via send/recv >> send/recv groups >> download address book changed from Outlook 2010 to 2013? I stumbled onto the fact that our BITS policy was actually killing OAB
downloads and leading to send/recv progress bar stalling indefinitely depending on Outlook version. if we have BITS throttled to 0 (disabled) during business hours via group policy, a manual OAB download attempt will just hang indefinitely in Outlook
2010 with nothing populating @ C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\Offline Address Books\alphanumeric\*.oab

I havent done exhaustive testing, but it appears that both 2010 & 2013 will fail to get OAB automatically while BITS policy is throttling/disabling the xfers but the manual download works on 2013. For my own info, how is this happening?

Exchange 2010 and 2013 coexistence Internal and external URL
Hi all,
been reading alot of threads about Outlook anywhere and virtual directories in co-existence exchange 2010 and 2013.
Still i dont get any smarter.
Here is scenario:
Exchange 2010
Cas1
Cas2
Mailbox1
Mailbox2
Casarray is Exchange.casarray, com ( internal dns pointed to CAS1 in exchange 2010).Seems like by default both exchange 2013 cas servers are added to the casarray.
Exchange 2013
CAS+Mailbox
Cas+Mailbox
DNS
mail.exchange.com pointing to VIP (kemp loadbalancer)
Autodiscover ( pointed to same vip ,kemp load balancer)
Outlook anywhere on all servers (2010 and 2013)
Internal ( pointing to VIP on Kemp)
External ( pointing to external IP,then it passes firewall that again passes to kemp)
Problem we are having is when migrating users from Exchange 2010 - 2013.
Users using Outlook 2010
restart of outlook and mail works fine.
OWA works fine
Active sync fails ( need to inherit permission of users AD object),wait couple of hours then mobile can sync again.)
Users using Outlook 2013
Outlook in disconnected status, only fix is to create new profile.
OWA works fine
Active sync fails ( need to inherit permission of users AD object),wait couple of hours then mobile can sync again.)
Question is,what should be set for internal and external url (active sync, owa, ews)on 2010 and 2013 servers?
Where is the config wrong?
Thanks!

Sharing calendars between 2010 and 2013
Is there an incompatibility issue when sharing calendars from Office 2010 and Office 2013?
Hi Dave,
I'm not quite sure what kind of incompatibility issue you mean here. But as far as I know, there is not so much difference with the Calendar function between Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013.
Calendars that shared from Outlook 2010 should work well in Outlook 2013 and vice versa.
If you have any specific issues regarding sharing calendars between Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013, please feel free to post a question in our forum, we'll be happy to help you with it.

Outlook 2010 and Adobe Acrobat 9
I just purchase 3 licences of Adobe Acrobat 9 two days ago, and i notice that i can't create PDF with all methadata, and all attachment on it (like what i was able to do with Adobe Acrobat 9 + Outlook 2007 and 2003).
So my question is : Is there a fix somewhere, or coming that will make this work ?
I purchase these licence for three 60yrs old user that can use the little "Adobe Icon" on Outlook to create PDF, but will be completly lost if i ask to "print" and choose where...
Also, it as been purchase for legal issue : it keep all metha data and all attached document, in their native format.
So my latest question is : do i ask for refund (Adobe will do it, because i purchase that from them) or this will be fixed soon, and i only need to wait ?Win7, Outlook 2010 and Acrobat Standard 9 are working on one of my laptops. I was helping someone else install who is having an issue with Outlook 2010 crashings. I was looking for the difference. On my laptop, I did not have the .dll add-in installed in Outlook, so when I print, I print to the Adobe printer.
I went to the non-working Adobe printer on the other laptop. I went to change to get a new driver. When the driver windo popped up, I noticed there were 2 options available. One of them was a newer date and said that it was for a 64 bit operating system. I selected that driver and it fixed my issue of not being able to print from Outlook to the Adobe printer. It will now allow me to print and save the .PDF file during the printing process.
I do not know how Outlook 2010 is supposed to work with the add-in as I have never got that working. So I do not know the difference. So if you do have the add-in in Outlook and you are crashing even when it is disabled. I would first suggest going to the re-install option when you boot from the installation CD and select modify. Then go in and remove the Outlook add-in. Then do what I have described above. It works printing to the Adobe printer. -
Running Win 7, Outlook 2010 and FF 3.6.15. I used to have no problem clicking URLs in Outlook messages, but now, when FF is default browser, I get message: "General Failure. The url was: "http://.....". An error occurred sending the command to the application." Link opens OK if I copy url to FF. Also works when IE is default browser.
Every single time that I have to do an update on Firefox I then have to go back into the regedit and follow the directions again in order to prevent this error. The issue should be corrected by Mozilla on their next update. To be honest, it is kind of annoying!! This has been an issue for several months, and I am tired of having to fix their mistakes!''' MOZILLA!!! PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE!!!'''
I HAVE ATTACHED A SCREEN SHOT OF THE ERROR THAT I AM GETTING.
