Outlook 2010 - Favorites disappear

I just upgraded Outlook 2007 to Outlook 2010. I had about 20 Favorites (all of them folders in various PST's). When I opened Outlook 2010 for the first time, they initially appeared correctly (meaning: as they did in Outlook 2007) but then
after Outlook finished opening, some just disappeared. So I added them back and closed and restarted Outlook. Same result and this time, they reordered.
So then I started Outlook from the Run Command Lin using the /resetnavpane switch.
I then added back some folders (15) and closed and restarted.
It went down to 13 folders. Closed and restarted.
It went down to 11 folders. Closed and restarted.
It went down to 9 folders. Closed and restarted.
It went down to 8 folders. Closed and restarted.
It went down to 7 folders. Getting the picture?
I have screen shots to validate this.
Any ideas any one?
Thanks in advance.

a) I can reproduce everything stated in this thread
b) if I change between cache and non cache modus the Outlook.xml file in users\xy\AppData\roaming\microsoft\outlook gets rewritten from scratch
c) if I copy the Outlook.xml file and delete it inbetween two Outlook sessions, I can "switch off and on" the favorites by copying it back
d) if I change from cached to non cached modus, I CAN NOT "switch off and on" the favorites. A look into the Outlook.xml file explains this behaviour: apparently the LID values are created ANEW and are no more compatible.
e) if I copy/rename an Outlook.xml file for the cache and another one for the non cached mode, I can use and reuse the correct one over and over again. It seems then that the LID values are correct or simply accepted/compatible.
So the question is IS THIS CHANGE OF THE LID values A BUG or is it a wanted "feature" of the programmers?? Or is it simply a side-effect nobody thought about. Then it should be corrected as soon as possible because many many users are still affected.
Here a comparison of LID values:

As said, maybe something corrupts this file or behaviour from time to time and causes the strange instabilities and irreproducible cases described here.

• All my appointments in Outlook 2010 have disappeared.

They're on my iPhone 5 and iPad 4 but won't even sync to Outlook - I have everything on iCloud. Started out of the blue about 5 weeks ago, mid-March 2014. With the contiuous little problems and now this MUCH BIGGER problem (for which there is no apparent fix) I'm seriously thinking of moving to a different tablet, different phone. I miss Steve Jobs.

None of the steps of troubleshooting said anything about updating ios. You can see them under heading about "on the windows pc".
Here are step by step.
If you're having trouble with iCloud Calendar on a PC (with Outlook 2007 or later), try each of these steps, testing after each to see if the issue is resolved.
Note: iCloud Control Panel does not support Outlook 2010 Personal Edition. When using iCloud Control Panel 2.0 and later, iCloud Calendar event descriptions in Outlook 2010 do not support text formatting (bold, italics, or underline), HTML, images, or attachments. The contextual menu (right-click) has also been disabled.
Verify that you are using a Windows configuration supported by iCloud.
Make sure that your computer is online. Attempt to view www.apple.com. If you can't connect to the Internet, your iCloud calendars and events will not update in Outlook. Learn about troubleshooting your Internet connection.
Open a secure website to test if ports 80 and 443 are accessible. Outlook requires port 443 access to iCloud to push and fetch updates to and from the iCloud Calendar servers.
Verify that your iCloud member name is entered into the iCloud Control Panel window. Learn about setting up iCloud on Windows.
Close and reopen the iCloud Control Panel.
Make sure that iCloud is not your default account in Outlook:
In Outlook 2013 and 2010, select File > Info > Account Settings > Data Files. If iCloud is listed as the default account in the Comments column, select a different account and click Set as Default.
In Outlook 2007, select File > Data File Management > Data Files. If iCloud is listed as the default account in the Comments column, select a different account and click Set as Default.
If you recently made changes in Outlook and they are not updating on your other devices or vice versa, click the Refresh button in Outlook.
Turn iCloud Calendar off and back on:
Close Outlook.
Open the iCloud Control Panel:
In Windows 8.1, go to the Start screen, click the down arrow in the lower-left corner, then click the iCloud app.
In Windows 8, go to the Start screen, then click the iCloud tile.
In Windows 7, choose Start menu > All Programs > iCloud > iCloud.
Deselect the checkbox next to Mail, Contacts, Calendars & Tasks, and click Apply. Wait a few seconds, then replace the checkmark and click Apply.
Open Outlook and test to see if the issue has been resolved.
Make sure that the iCloud Outlook Add-in is active within Outlook. (Learn more about managing Add-ins with Microsoft Outlook.)
Outlook 2013 and 2010:
Open Outlook 2013 or 2010.
Click the File menu.
Click Options in the left panel of the Outlook window.
Click Add-Ins in the left panel of the Outlook Options window.
Look at the list of add-ins beneath "Active Application Add-Ins" and verify that "iCloud Outlook Add-in" is listed.
Outlook 2007:
Open Outlook 2007.
From the Tools menu, choose Trust Center.
Select Add-ins from the left column.
Look at the list of add-ins beneath "Active Application Add-Ins" and verify that "iCloud Outlook Add-in" is listed.
Restart your computer. This may sound simple, but it reinitializes your network and application settings and can frequently resolve issues.
Note: When enabling Mail, Contacts, Calendars & Tasks in the iCloud Control Panel, part of the setup process is to copy your Calendars data from the default Outlook .pst file to iCloud, then remove the Calendars from the .pst file by placing them in the Deleted Items folder in Outlook. The Calendars data is then stored in the iCloud data set within Outlook so that changes can be pushed to and from Outlook by iCloud. Make sure that you're looking for your data within the iCloud folder in Outlook after enabling Calendars in the iCloud Control Panel. The deleted files can be seen by viewing Deleted Items within your Outlook Folder List. This is not iCloud removing your data. iCloud simply copies your data into the iCloud data set and then removes the local Calendars data by placing it in the Deleted Items folder.

• Images in Outlook 2010 messages disappeared (SOLVED)

Racking my brain on this one, and tried a ton of things found in googling. I have Outlook 2010 with both a work Microsoft Exchange and personal Gmail IMAP set up, and both have stopped showing pictures embedded in e-mails. They just show
a completely blank box (no red X). I've been through all the "Show pictures" settings in both Outlook and Word. I disabled, rebooted, and then re-enabled just to be sure something wasn't stuck. I've also tried clearing the Temporary Internet
folder. Even went so far as to create a dummy Admin account and completely DELETE the Temporary Internet folder so system could do a scratch rebuild. Similar steps on Gmail. Deleted the entire account from Outlook and created it as new.
All my IMAP messages pulled right back in, but still no images.
Any idea of other things I might try? At a loss here . . . . .
~Vol

Well, about the time I posted I found the answer to my own question. They are both things that I had tried, but I guess I had never tried them at the same time!
STEP 1:
- Close Outlook.
- Go to this registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Security
- Rename “OutlookSecureTempFolder” key as OutlookSecureTempFolder.old”
- Re-start Outlook
STEP 2:
- Create new email
- From e-mail compose screen, go to File / Options / Mail / Editor Options / Advanced and make sure that "Show picture placeholders" is NOT checked
- Close & re-start Outlook
Hopefully that tidbit helps someone else. Thanks!

• Favorites in Outlook 2010

I have multiple email accounts set up in Outlook 2010 and I have added the inboxes for each one to my Favorites list for ease of access. Outlook displays them all as "Inbox" but also kindly adds the name of the account next to each one. The only problem
is that the account name is in very light Grey and quite difficult to see. Is there any way I can change the color of the account name to something more prominent? I have tried changing the font but the account name remains in the light grey color.

Hi Robolovsky,
Per my knowledge, you cannot change the color of the account name, you can follow Diane’s suggestion to use a larger font.

• Public folder calendar will not add to favorites or users default view in Outlook 2010

I have created a shared public calendar in the public folders of our exchange server set-up (priovided by a popular cloud supplier). It appears under public folders in Outlook 2010 but right-clicking add to favorites does nothing and I cant make the calendar
show up in the normal calendar view (alongside other calendars) for the people that need to share it. What am I doing wrong?

Hi ,
This folder was added to the “public favorites” folder and then added to your favorites menu and don’t shows up in the Navigation Pane under “Other Contacts”.
1.If so , please check the calendar folder you initially added to the public folder as being available .
2.Open the Outlook E-mail account –more setting—chose Download Public Folder Favorites.
3.Add the “Show in Favorites” button to your Quick Access Toolbar at the top of your Outlook by expanding the menu next to it, choosing Customize, and
finding the “Show in Favorites” item under all commands.
4.Switch to Folder View and click to open your Public Foder in your main Outlook window.
5.Switch to Mail View but don’t click any folders. You should see that your “Show in Favorites”button turns from grey to colored. Click it and it will
add the public foder to your Favorites list.

• Shared mailboxes disappearing from Outlook 2010 profile

Ever since we upgraded to Exchange 2013 a few weeks back, one particular user keeps having to add her Shared Mailboxes to her Outlook 2010 profile every morning. She adds them and the next morning they'll be gone again.
She is the only user in a building of 50 who has this issue and it happens daily. I understand that it only takes a couple minutes to add them back, but it is starting to be more than an annoyance.
Sadly I haven't been able to find a solution.
Would someone here have an idea what could be going on?
Thanks,
Jake

Hi Jake,
From your description, only one user has an issue that shared mailbox disappears from her mailbox. I recommend her follow the steps below for troubleshooting:
1. Please use Exchange online mode to check if shared mailbox can appear.
2. Please create a new profile to verify if the issue persists.
If the issue persists, I recommend her install the latest Outlook 2010 Service Pack and check the result.
Hope it helps.

• Exchange 2013 with Outlook 2010 anywhere - Public Folders disappear from Outlook favourites

Hi,
we have a 3 server Exchange 2013 SP1 DAG published with Forefront TMG.
Outlook 2010 anywhere connection works fine (only anywhere connection is possible, there are no clients in the exchange server AD).
The users are adding public folders to their local Outlook favorites. In about 10% of the Outlook starts, those public folders are missing in the favorites. Local favorites folders are still there, public folders are connected.
After restarting the Outlook a few times, the favorites are back.
Deleting the outlook.xml brought no success, the favorites seem to be saved somewhere on the exchange server.
Outlook 2010 is up to date, all hotfixes are installed.
There are no related entries in servers or clients eventlogs, the logs of the TMG server are normal.
Does anyone have a simular behavior?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
According to your description,it is clear that something got corrupted, but it is hard to say directly what caused it. However, there are a few troubleshooting steps to determine what caused it and you can also make a backup of your Favorite Folders list
so you can easily restore it when it still happens.
Pleaser refer to the following article:
Favorite Folders empty upon restart

• Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2003 Signatures Disappearing

Hello,
we have a multiple domain controller environment with many locations. We run both Server 2003 and Server 2008 with Exchange 2003 being our main Mail server and Exchange 2007 running Webmail. When a workstation is first imaged, Office 2003 installs via
GP, and then the user can install Office 2010 through SCCM as an upgrade. We do not use roaming profiles, although we do redirect their "my documents." The problem is occuring for both users of Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2010. Our problem is that users
signatures are disappearing, meaning they create a signature, then they restart the computer and the signature is no longer in the signatures folder. We have tried recreating their Outlook profile, reimaging the computer, deleting their entire profile on the
computer, none of which has stopped this from happening. Every time after they create the signature, it will go away. Sometimes it will stay for a few days, and then disappear again. This is not happening for all users, only a random selection of users. These
users are not administrators on their physical workstations. Thank you
Joshua

Hi,
For signature information, it store in following location, make sure user can access this folder:

• Icloud sync button has disappeared from Outlook 2010 any suggestions welcomed

Hi the handy sync symbol at the top of Outlook 2010 has dissappeared and Id really like it back!
Any suggestions please?
I have "Calendar from Icloud" box checked in Outlook and "Icloud" checked is this correct?
Thanks in advance

Hi!
Just a few questions:
- What version of Outlook do you use?
- What version of DIS? I've found two different versions of oracle.com (the latest afaik is 8.2.0.959)
- Is the addin enabled?
There are also some diagnostics available in DIS. For the moment I can't remember how to enable them, but Oracle Support can provide you with this info.

• Online Archives in Outlook 2010 disappeared after Exchange 2010 SP3 upgrade

I have Exchange 2010 and noticed it has never been updated since having it in production for 3 years now. So I downloaded SP3 and installed it after hours. After the install was complete, rollups 5,6,7, showed up in Windows Update so I installed those too.
Before I did the upgrade to SP3, I had Online Archives visible on just my user account mailbox and have about 2 years worth of emails in there. Since the upgrade, it is no longer visible in my Outlook 2010. I have tried to fix to remove SELF and re add it
to the mailbox with no change to the issue. I have tried to disable Archive for my mailbox and re-add. Nothing. Don't really know what else to try. Any ideas?

Anyone?

• IPhone 4S Calendar will not synch to OutLook 2010 from 1 of 2 phones

Problem: iPhone 4S Calendar will not synch to OutLook 2010 from 1 of 2 phones. Contacts synch fine. Was no problem in the past until...
Sorry for the length. Trying to give all info I can.
Summary: Had to get motherboard fixed under factory warranty which included new hard drive, and reinstall everything on an HP DV7 laptop. So this is a clean installation of everything on the laptop (Win7). Configuring iTunes and Outlook 2010 for two iPhone 4S users (myself and wife) was my last step. Re-established each user account to iTunes. Calendar synch problem popped up on one of two iPhones that did not exist before.
Prior history: all synchs worked great prior to the clean install and I never had a problem.
Config: Windows 7, two iPhone 4S, Week Calendar apps on both. All software up-to-date on iPhones and Win7 (fanatic about that). Had OL2010 PST datafile backups and simply used them for the OL re-installs. OL2010 makes that easy. Each user has their own Win7 login to keep our stuff separate. Of course, OL has Calendar as part of its install.
Week Calendar apps on both are configured with same calendars (Calendar, Home, My Birthdays, Work). Verified each iPhone Calendars app, Calendar button: From My PC listing has all these checked: All From My PC, Calendar, Home, My Birthdays, Work; Other: Birthdays.
Difference: In using iTunes to synch, iTunes said the iPhone account was different from the OL account and asked to merge or replace. Apparently this is normal for iTunes on a new install (since basically it is) synching to prior synched stuff.
iTunes settings for both: Connect iPhone for each user and checked INFO settings for Contacts and Calendars.I used “selected calendars” and verified. Each user has all four calendars checked.
NOTE: Prior to each users first synch below, neither user had anything in OL2010 Calendar. Can't blame on recurring events problems in OL. ALL the events are on the iPhones and are being synched TO the PC to populate OL2010 Calendars.
Additional Note: Contacts was already loaded into OL from my backups so synching has no problem.
User 1 iPhone: Success 1st try.
In iTunes, selected “merge info” instead of replace.
Results: User 1 synched fine from iTunes to OL2010 including the 4 Calendars (Calendar, Home, My Birthdays, Work). 4 calendars showed up. No problems at all. Wonderful! expected behavoir.
User 2 iPhone: Still failing to synch.
In iTunes, selected “replace” instead of merge info. Apple’s dialog is incredibly confusing and non-explicit on what copies to what and what it does.
Results: User 2 synched fine from iTunes to OL2010 for Contacts. DID NOT synch the 4 Calendars (Calendar, Home, My Birthdays, Work). Only calendar that shows up in OL is Calendar and it doesn’t contain any data. iTunes has no errors and the synch status bar indicates everything went fine.
Tried: I deleted the PST files and copied the backup files back to OL to start over. ITUNES no longer gives me the merge info versus replace option. I’ve synched multiple times but the calendar data will not synch.
Not Tried: Creating the same remaining named calendars (Home, My Birthdays, Work) in OL and trying again.
ALL suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Ok, new info. This gets better and better.
In OL2010, the Calendar in the navigation pane had no arrow indicating it had subcalendars within it. I right clicked on Calendar and chose New Calendar. It gave me a list of the existing calendars that were missing !!
When I cancelled, there was an expand arrow next to Calendar in the Navigation pane !!!!!
Expanding it showed the unchecked missing calendars. I checked them and synched again.
WRONG THING TO DO! ALL my wife's calendar entries in her iPhone since the laptop went down 3 weeks ago DISAPPEARED. No warnings, nothing at any step of this process. The OL files overwrote the iPhone data.
I can't find any way to get them back as this **** iStuff relies on iTunes for everything.
Is there any way to get her files back from before this synch?
Is there no way to save data files off the iPhone w/o iTunes?
Why doesn't iTunes let you control the direction of data transfer?
I now have one very ****** off wife.

• How do i get my contacts back into outlook 2010

I plan to swap my IPHONE 5 for a BB- I know that this is blashemy to most of you, but I cannot get ICLOUD to properly sync my contacts and calendar.
I am fearful when I remove ICLOUD from my PC that all of my contacts will disappear as they are no longer in OUtlook 2010 but in ICLOUD only..

Why don't you backup Outlook before you do then.

• "From" presence not displaying in Outlook 2010

I've been working on a software product aiming presence and im integration with Microsoft Outlook using IMessenger API.
Integration works as expected with Outlook 2013. However, the presence indicator of the
"from" or sender does not display in Outlook 2010. The to, cc and bcc fields all display presence properly. In Outlook 2013 however, all of the from, to, cc and bcc fields display presence.
There is a similar discussion for Outlook 2013 on:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/a2500fec-fc3f-4295-bbe3-7620876a2d24/from-presence-not-displaying-in-outlook-2013
My problem is similar to this one except that I've the same problem with Outlook 2010 and I don't have this problem with Outlook 2013. It may be resolved in Outlook 2013 with a hotfix I don't know. Does anybody have the same issue and have a fix or workaround
for this situation? I have latest updates for Office 2010 already.
A strange thing is that when I set the registry value HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\IM\TurnOffPresenceIcon to 1, presence indicators are disappear from contact names as expected, however when I hover over the sender it
displays sender's presence correctly on tooltip. So integration seems ok when I look at this.
when I set the registry value HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\IM\TurnOffPresenceIcon to 2, presence indicators are disappear from both contact names and tool tips as expected.
when I set the registry value HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\IM\TurnOffPresenceIcon to 0, presence indicators are appear for contacts in to, cc, and bcc fields except "from" field, which is quite strange. After
I move around between messages, some of the sender's presence indicators starts displaying.
Does anybody know why the presence indicator is not displaying consistently for the "sender" contact in Outlook 2010 when TurnOffPresenceIcon has value 0? Does anybody have the same issue and have a fix or workaround for this situation?

Hi,
There is another registry value named TurnOffPresenceIntegration
which also have an effect on the presence indicator, please find the
Key in: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\IM
or Policy Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\Policies\microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\IM
and then check if the key value is set to 0.

• Outlook 2010 Mail Tips Could Not Be Retrieved / Out Of Office Doesn't work too.

Hi,
We have a small set up with 5 pc's and 1 server. All of the workstations are exactly the same.. specs,OS,software etc...
One of the users is currently experiencing "Mail Tips Could Not Be Retrieved" issue.
It shows up right above the SEND button when replying or sending a new e-mail.
Also Out Of Office / Automatic Replies function does not want to work as well. It asks me to try again later cause the server is not responding.
The funny thing is that this is happening only to a single user.
Here is what I've tried:
- Tested E-Mail AutoConfiguration - Autodiscovery works fine and points to the right directory.
- Deleted the profile and recreated it ... didn't work
- Added the same mailbox to another computer - IT WORKED
- Checked all the SSL settings for each virtual folder in IIS and they are all set to IGNORE the certificate.
The other strange thing is that when I try to download the OAB from the affected PC a credential window pops up and asks for the username/password
of the particular mailbox.. Once I enter them the "Mail Tips could not be retrieved" message disappears and Out Of Office is accessible and ready to be used.
Maybe Outlook 2010 setting or registry value ?

This sounds like an authentication issue for the Autodiscover/EWS URLs and your last paragraph basically confirmed it.
Is this PC domain joined and is this user logging on with his domain credentials and not locally to the computer?
Is the user able to access:
https://autodiscover.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
or
https://domain.com/autodicover/autodiscover.xml
An xml-page should be returned with ErrorCode 600 Invalid Request.
Is there a TMG or UAG server involved here?
Also check the proxy settings in Internet Options (if configured/required).
