Outlook 2010 to Exchange 2010 connectivity problem

We have a single Exchange 2010 server running DB, CAS, and HT this lives at our Corp HQ. We have 12 offices connected across MPLS and 2 offices connected across a Metro-e 100mb connection. We have had this environment in place for almost 2 years with no
issues.
Today in the office connected across the 100mb metro-e connection had a momentary network hiccup where all uses lost data momentarily.   Connectivity to data and network resources restore immediately, but after that time, none of those users could
connect to Outlook 2010.   When they try to connect outlook times out with an error that it cannot connect to the server.
I can ping the exchange server by name and ip.   Response times are less than 7ms.  Utilization on that connection is less than 10%.  DNS is resolving.
Users can connect to OWA and get access to email.
The problem is only happening in only the one office.  All other remote sites are functioning fine.
Users can access all other network resources with no issues, including OWA and Intranet/Internet sites both HTTP and HTTPS.
I believe that it may be something is blocking the RPC connection.   If I try to run the Connection which also fails to connect.
I have rebooted the Exchange server
I have rebooted the local DC in the remote office with the problem.  Also reset DNS.   And on clients tried flush/register DNS.
No server changes have been made on any of the servers involved.
Only changes taken place prior to the network "hiccup" happening was network admins implemented QOS on the routers to give priority to SIP/voice traffic.  According to them, this will have no impact on other data.
Any ideas or suggestions on next steps for troubleshooting?

Hi
Did you they not make any routing changes? Can you ask them to check that all ports for exchange are open and also ask them if they made any other changes?
Hope this helps. Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

    Hi!
    Some info:
    2x AD/DC Windows 2003 Native.
Previous Exchange 2003 installed, but now cleanly as it gets uninstalled.
    Exchange 2013CU2v2 Aka Version 15.0 (Build 712.24)
Office 2010 with Outlook 2010 (Latest SP, and WU)
Outlook-prf configured for Outlook Anywhere. (i've also tried to configure manually, no difference)
Exchange: SAN Cert. GUI requested from ECP. This one covers all possible host names the server can use. autodiscover, owa, mail, "netbios"-name. Self issued from the internal CA. CA distributed to clients with GPO. I get NO certificate warnings
    surfing to OWA, ECP.
Exchange: ECP/Server/Outlook Anywhere; Auth set to NTLM (not Negotiate)
Ping inside host names resolves to the Exchange server.
Starting Outlook.exe with /rpcdiag show two connections for a while. One of the type catalog and one of the type redirect.
    Problem:
When starting Outlook you see "Loading profile" for about 30-40 seconds. /rpcdiag show two connections CID "9","11"; SERVERNAME "---","[GUID]@thedomain", AUTH and ENCRYPT is empty.
The the a dialog comes up that says that the server isn't available?!
Clicking "Retry" makes Outlook connect as it should. Everything from there works like a charm! /rpcdiag windows show that it has connection as it should.
Tried to click "Reconnect" in /rpcdiag. It also takes about 30 sec before it regains the conneciton. The part hanging there is the Type: Redirect.
So, does anyone have a clue for why it doesn't work and then does?
Can it be something wrong with the autodiscover?

    Hello,
Do you mean the issue occurs when you select manually configure outlook exchange account or automatically configure outlook exchange account? If so, please make sure whether all users have the issue.
I recommend you check if there exists redirection on your rpc virtual directory.
I recommend you use "test e-mail autoconfiguration" tool to check if your autodiscover is correct.
Besides, I recommend you to enable global and advanced logging for outlook to check RPC trace events.

  • Outlook 2010 connecting to Exchange 2013 and 2007 ... delivery fails

    Hello,
we are having a problem with a few Outlook 2010 Clients that have two Exchange accounts setup in one profile. One account is connecting to the company's Exchange 2013 Server, the second account is connecting to an external provider's Exchange 2007 infrastructure
    using Outlook Anywhere.
The companies Exchange 2013 was recently migrated from Exchange 2010 and this is the point where the problem started.
Some users are no longer able to send using the external Exchange 2007 account. When they try they are receiving an NDR with the following error message:
    #554 5.6.0 STOREDRV.Deliver; Corrupt message content##  from the external provider's servers.
When I setup a profile containing only the external provider's mailbox everything works fine until I am adding the company's Exchange 2013 back in at which point the same error appears.
We have no problems using the company's Exchange 2013 servers.
Does anyone have an idea what causes this and how to resolve it? The external provider is uncooperative in troubleshooting so we are left with the problem.
    Thank you
    Sascha

    Hi,
The problem should be related to the External Exchange 2007.
Please refer to this kb below:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2203381/en-us
This problem occurs when the email message is a multipart/mixed MIME message which contains a text/plain body and an application/applefile body.  If the corresponding body is not a real application/applefile body, the Exchange Server 2007 server considers
that the email message is invalid. Therefore, it generates the NDR. However, Exchange Server 2010 can deliver this kind of email message successfully.
To resolve this problem, you should let the External Provider install the following update rollup:
2279665 Description of Update Rollup 1 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 3
    Hope this helps.

  • Outlook 2010 has problems dealing with in-line attachment (not an Exchange issue!)

    Hi all...
Is there an official way to have this bug looked at?
(Note -- it is *not* the Exchange/PDF bug that has been semi-addressed with the very-recentInterim Update for Exchange 2007...)
If I set up Outlook 2010 to use an IMAP server account (not an Exchange account) and send that account a message from Apple's Mail.app program -- that contains an in-line attachment -- Outlook 2010 displays the e-mail incorrectly.
If I send e-mail using Apple Mail of the form:
    <some text>
attachment  (and in this case I've tried .pdf, .docx, .xls, etc. -- it seems not to matter what the attachment is...)
    <additional text>
    <signature>
Outlook 2010 displays the resulting e-mail with a problem:
The received e-mail will look like this
    <some text>
then *two* attachments -- the attached file *and* an "Untitled Attachment" that contains the <additional text> and <signature> parts of the e-mail (!)
The reproducible bug (at least here) is that Outlook 2010 should display the remaining text after the in-line attachment within the *body* of the e-mail message.
Again, this is *not* the recent Exchange issue with .pdf files -- this is strictly an Outlook issue.
    Any thoughts/help on this one?
    - Steve

    Hello,
In order to get a better understanding of your issue I have a few questions:
1: You mention that the sending client is an Apple mail application. Do you see this issue when sending from a non-Apple email client?
2: Which version of Apple Mail app are you using?
3: If you send the same mail to an Outlook 2007 or earlier version of Outlook do you see the same issue?
4:  What is the format of the Email when being sent from the Apple mail client, is it HTML; Plain Text or Rich Text? Additionally, what happens if you send the same email but change the format.
5: If you send an Inline attachment to the Apple Mail application from Outlook 2010, what happens?
6: As per the Post you are attaching a single Inline attachment with text before and after the attachment before sending the email, but when you receive the mail in Outlook you get two attachments. Are these attachments still inline attachments?
7: The second file attachment; next to the remaining text and the signature does it contain any other text? Like some error added by the server?
9: Instead of .pdf, .docx, .xls file if you send an image as an inline attachment from the Apple mail application, then so you see the issue?
10: If you send the files as normal attachment not inline does everything work?
Below is an article which may be applicable to your issue although it pertains to an earlier version of Outlook:
‘Outlook renders inline message information as an attachment’
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814111
I also came across a user who experience similar issue and they suggested, setting the apple mail application to Always insert attachment at the end of the message.
View->Attachments and select "Always Insert Attachments at End of Message
Let me know what the results are using that setting.
Do let me know if you have any queries regarding the same and I shall try my best to address it as far as possible.
    Regards,
    Harveyy - MSFT

  • Outlook 2010 connected to Exchange 2013 prior to coexistence

I installed Exchange 2013 into the environment (Exchange 2010 SP3) and left it at that (ie no additional config).  I noticed Outlook 2010 client connected to Exchange 2013 somehow (it got a cert warning).  Why would Outlook connect to the new
Exchange 2013 server like that?  Although I enabled Outlook Anywhere, it is not trying RPC/HTTP first, but rather RPC/TCP.

    Hi,
By design, if the user mailbox located in Exchange 2010 server, the Outlook client will connect to Exchange 2010 server automatically.
According to your description, I found that we have nothing additional configuration on Exchange 2013. So, only server name and internal services' URLs are configured automatically during the Exchange 2013 server installation.
If it has no mailbox located in Exchange 2013, it is odd that Outlook client connect Exchange 2013 first.
I suggest running "Test E-mail AutoConfiguration" in Outlook to verify which Exchange server the Outlook connected.
    Thanks

  • Outlook 2010 - connect headers only

I'm using outlook 2010 and it says 'connected to microsoft exchange headers'. I think this is giving me a strange thing that searching for emails is only returning emails that I've read.

udenit, I'll bet if you were to go into the 'Download Preferences' and uncheck 'On Slow Connections Download Only Headers' then it will return to Connected to Microsoft Exchange.

  • ITunes 10.1, Outlook 2010 Sync-Problem

    Dear Apple community,
My name is Thomas, I'm 27 years old, come from Austria and i am new here.
As it´s most, I came to this forum in search of a problem solution.
Unfortunately, I have not found this solution yet, so I opened this thread.
    Here is my problem:
I use a PC with Windows 7 Business, Outlook 2010 and iTunes 10.1.
Now I would like to synchronize my Outlook contacts using iTunes on my iPhone.
But in Outlook, I have several contact folders, as well as Private, professional, etc.
With Outlook 2007, I was able to synchronize the contacts folders i want with iTunes.
In Outlook 2010 the option to select the contact folders i want no longer appears in iTunes. I can only select the option to synchronize all contacts.
    So my question:
Are there any known problems when you synchronize multiple contact folders with Outlook 2010 and iTunes 10.1?
Is there a trick, that I can see my individual Outlook contact folders in iTunes again?
    Thank you for your help.
    Regards,
    Thomas

This was reported months ago, but Apple don't care enough to fix it.
If it was just Outlook 2010, I could understand the problem was with Microsoft, but I have experienced the same problem with Outlook 2007. I have even gone back to using iTunes 9.2.1.5, and still I can't sync my calendar with Outlook, which has rendered my iPod Touch useless since I have to use my old iPaq Pocket PC.
Had this bug been fixed, I would have bought an iPhone.

  • CONTACTING SEVER FOR INFORMATION OUTLOOK 2010 -2013 problem single user

I have the contacting server problem that popped up in Outlook 2010 after a long time without the issue.  Upgraded to 2013 2 weeks ago and same issue.
THIS IS A STAND ALONE COMPUTER.  Weeks of sorting through the thousands of post on this issue that Microsoft obviously has no serious intent to correct.  Tired of reading the maybe this will work answers relating to servers or requiring safe modes
and other fun things most home users know nothing about and should not have to if Microsoft would fix issues.  Not an issue to them after they have the money.
Again, stand alone high end Dell with maxed out ram and over 2 1/2 T HD space on a couple of drives.  NEVER had this issue with Office / Outlook 200, 2003 and for a long while with 2010.
Yes I do have a bad attitude about this issue.  Mighty tired of MS Software released with known issues since the first package came out.  Anyone really think Gates cares one iota about sold packages?

Thank you for the shot sat the Microsoft Error.
This message" contacting server for data" happens when I am opening mail
in Outlook.  There is not a constant.  Sometimes it does it on every mail as it is opened and sometimes it doesn't.,  There are many times when this message will not appear when a message is opened but will appear when the
    same message is opened later.
Message for=mats from my friends who flew helicopters in Vietnam with me are the same as they have been for many years.  Many years that this popup was not an issue.  No themes ever and only a few with signatures of the sender as always.
We have always had the many pictures of Vietnam an other things like the US Presidents crotch salutes to OUR flag  Never a problem until now on occasion and we use to never use pictures as attachments unless there were a lot of them at one time.
Running the same Virus Software I have ran for many years, McAfee.  Aside from having this issue come out of the blue with Outlook 2010 and continue to survive when I upgraded to 2013.
Bottom line is I have changed nothing aside from having this irritating bug crop up in 2010 yet not in any of the previous releases or over a year of using 2010.  What ever happened in 2010 was persistent enough to survive the upgrade to 2013.
One last thing,  I have my internet speed increased by Comcast which based on timing could not have created the issue.
    Thank you.

  • Outlook 2010 print problems

I cannot seem to turn off the print preview option in Outlook 2010.  Since my email which I send hundreds a day of all have attachments when trying to print preview each it create a long lag time,  each has its own tray requirements and when you
switch to the different tray it again tries to print preview and again creates more lag time.  I am considering restoring 2007 because of the large amount of lag time is causing a back log of work to be completed creating overtime.  I have tried
turning off the "live preview" option but this does not seem to help. Our company techs are also baffled as to why this option is not only cause such lag time but also does not seem to have an option to turn it off.

I too am really annoyed with this new 'feature.' What used to take a few minutes is now taking a half hour because every email I want to print has to load a 'preview' first (which I do not want or need).
Microsoft needs to give us a way to turn off the 'automatic print preview' FEATURE (I use the term loosely) in all of the Office apps. Simple enough to make this an 'option' and give us back two separate commands for "PRINT" and "PRINT PREVIEW."
This is a definite negative productivity hit!

  • Outlook 2010 Calendar Problem, Cannot see acceptance

    Hello
I'm having a problem, It can be a permission problem.
    User01
    User02
    User03
    User01 creates a Meeting and invites User02 and User03.
How Can User02 and User03 see which ones have Accepted the Meeting request or Declined, User01 can see who accepted and declined because he created the Meeting, but how can I manage so others can see who clicked on Accept/Decline.
    Have a good day

    Hello
About the Tracking, that doesn't help if you are not the Meeting Organizer Jimmy, that's what I have thought out my self.
as Ultra_cool also describes the Tracking seems only to be available as Meeting Organizer.
I way to solve this is by permissions, grant permissions to a user on the meeting organizers calendar.
It's not a perfect way, but It's still a way to manage this and you can manage what type of Permissions you want to give to the user/users, so they can't delete anything from your Calendar and only be able to see the information.
If you are a group in a company that always have meetings you can probably set up a group and give them permissions to the meeting organizer and have less job to do.
Thanks alot for the answers! and have a good day

  • Outlook 2010 (Exchange) after iCloud installation hangs

    Hi there,
i have Outlook and use it with a Exchange Connection. I installed the iCloud Software for Windows to Sync with Outlook. But after a while Outlook hang at the start. I tried many things Office repair, icloud Software repair and reinstallation nothing changed. But if i deinstall the iCloud Softwar everthing works well.
Wehen i start Outlook with installed iCloud Software in Safemode it runs, but i get no reminder from iCloud Tasks/Events. And i get a messe to put a SmartCard in!??? After i click on Aboard i can Work with Outlook.
    Can somebody help me!?
    Matthias Berndt

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but I have exactly the same problem. And after countless searching on these forums and the internet this is the closest I have seen to my problem.
    My devices:
Home: PC, Windows 7 64-bit. Outlook 2010 with SP1, all updated with MS service packs and hotfixes.
I converted [some time ago] all my home/personal contacts to iCloud. I'm fine with that.
    iPhone4: syncs contacts with iCloud
    iPad2: syncs contacts with iCloud
iTunes shows that contacts are being syncd with iCloud and NOT itunes.
    Everything is syncing just fine.
    BUT....
I would like to see my iCloud contacts, using Outlook 2010 (connecting to Corporate Exchange Server) using my work laptop.
Just to be clear, I don't want to sync my contacts between Exchange and iCloud, I'm quite happy to keep work contacts in Exchange and personal contacts in iCloud. All I want to do is see iCloud - Contacts in Outlook on my work laptop.
Firstly, I made a backup of the contacts in corporate Outlook, then manually deleted them from within Outlook. I did this to avoid the iCloud applet from attempting to copy/merg contacts from Outlook/Exchange into iCloud - potentially causing duplicates.
I then installed the iCloud Control Panel applet successfully, signed in with my Apple ID. All looks good so far.
I then fired up Outlook 2010 on the laptop....which just sits there displaying the splash screen and doesn't load up the main application window.
    Cancelled the process.
    Uninstalled iCloud applet.
Started Outlook again on the laptop, application works fine.
I have read the Apple article on Exchange and iCloud...and I don't believe I am doing anything different to what the expected functionality should be. i.e. it should be possible to run Outlook connecting to Exchange, and have iCloud connectivity too, yet of course both sync to their respective servers.
    Any advice or help?

  • Exchange 2013 + Outlook 2010, Security Alert

A small customer has Outlook 2010 connecting to Exchange Server 2013 on a Windows 2008
R2 server at a remote site. Recently, the users began receiving a security
alert ("The identity of this web site or the integrity of this connection
cannot be verified", "The name on the security certificate is invalid
or does not match the name of the site"). This occurs every time a user
opens Outlook, and when they click on "Yes" they are able to use
    Outlook normally. <o:p></o:p>
This problem began not long after 1) the wildcard ssl certificate was renewed and 2)
Exchange 2013 was updated to the most recent SP and CU. It is noteworthy that
the PCs being used are not members of the domain. The users also receive this
error if they use Outlook to connect from their home PCs. <o:p></o:p>
The Exchange server passes connectivity and autodiscover tests. I have checked all the URLs
in Exchange Server. I have tried changing authentication, re-enabling the the
*.domain.ca certificate, I have not been able to reproduce the error on my own
laptop from the customer's site. <o:p></o:p>
This problem is not critical, but it is annoying for the users, and I have tried
just about everything I can find on the Internet to resolve it. <o:p></o:p>
    Any suggestions? <o:p></o:p>

    Hi,
Please run the following command to set the CertPrincipalName parameter which specifies the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate principal name required for connecting to Exchange from an external location to have a try:
    Set-OutlookProvider EXPR -CertPrincipalName msstd:*.domain.ca
If the issue persists, please follow the steps below to check Exchange services for the problematic users :
Open Outlook - press CTRL key - right click on the Outlook icon from right bottom corner taskbar -
Test Email AutoConfiguration. Put your email address - uncheck use guessmart and secure guessmart authentication - click Test to check your Autodiscover service.
Please collect the information in the Log tab and Results tab.

  • Outlook 2010 keeps prompting for password every morning

    Hi,
We run Exchange 2007 on Windows server 2008. All SP and updates are up to date.
About a month ago, two users got prompt for user credential in Outlook every morning, but other users in the domain are fine. Below are what I have tried but no help.
    1. Deleted user credential for Outlook in Credential Manager
    2. Recreated Outlook profile
    3. Disjoin and rejoin their computers to the domain
I can repeat the problem on another computer with the user's account log in.
The problem only happens in the morning, once the user entered the credential, Outlook starts to update new email and it will be fine for the rest of the day.
Only two users have this problem. I can't figure out if they have anything in common. Since I can repeat the problem on another computer, I assume this problem should be related to user account.
    I need help!
    Thanks in advance!
    Grace

    Hi,
As per the information and details provided by you, to solve the Outlook 2010 password problem, please follow these steps: -
    Firstly, you try to
    change the profile.
Open Control panel/Mail/Select the profile and click Properties.
Select the mailbox and click the
    Change button.
When inside the profile you will see tabs at top for
    connection and security.
Please make sure you have selected
Negotiate authentication, and have unchecked the box that states
    Always prompt for login credentials.
Then check if you are using
HTTP to connect with exchange, if so uncheck this and apply the changes.
Close Outlook if open and reopen Outlook.
I hope this information will be helpful for you.
    Thanks and regards
    Shweta@G
    Hi Goyal,
Thank you very much for your reply. The Outlook settings are the same as you described. We do use HTTP to connect to Exchange. I unchecked it and see what happens tomorrow. but just FYI. All Outlook has the same settings with HTTP connection checked. Only
two specific accounts have the credential issue.
    Will update you tomorrow.
    Thanks,
    Grace

  • Outlook 2010 - Delegate creates meetings on someone elses behalf

    To start here's our environment:
Workstations are Windows 7 Pro using Outlook 2010 connecting to an Exchange 2010 Server.
Here's the problem:A delegate (Person A) of someone elses calendar creates a meeting for them in that person's calendar (Person B). Person A has delegate permissions (editor permissions) to Person B's calendar. After the meeting is created and sent out on
Person B's behalf, Person B receives an email about the meeting in what looks like plain text format. Person B normally doesn't get an email after a meeting is created but every couple of days this seems to happen. Person B then tends to contact Person A asking
why they received that email and then asks if the meeting has been scheduled when it has.
Any ideas why Person B receives these emails after Person A creates these meetings from Person B's calendar?
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi,
Please check the delegate settings in Person B’s Outlook client:
Click File > Account Settings > Delegate Access. Click Person A and check whether “My delegates and me” is checked in the delegate settings:
It is recommended to select the first one. If the settings is correct, please check Person A’s Sent Items whether A also added Person B as an attendee in the meeting request.
