Outlook 2010, Windows 7, 32 bit can't launch adobe reader

I have a client with the following problem:
In windows, double click of a PDF shows... Adobe Reader X (this is a good thing)
In outlook 2010, double click of a PDF "goes to that dark place" -- actually Windows Media Player.  Which is useless.  There is no setting I can find to change this.  Reinstalling Adobe did not fix this.  Many of the similar problems I've seen are specific to 64 bit -- this one is on 32 bit.
How can I get Outlook 2010 to launch Adobe when a pdf is double-clicked on a 32 bit windows 7 computer?
(Norton 360 is the antivirus, so it's not a McAffee issue).

Hi guys, thanks for your responses.
What is this vboxnetflt for? Which modules are the essential modules for virtualbox? What I mean is: do those nice features like mouse point integration, full screen supportment etc... rely on vboxnetflt and vboxnetadp?
What I have in my configuration file is:
MOD_AUTOLOAD="yes"
#MOD_BLACKLIST=() #deprecated
MODULES=(vboxdrv vboxnetflt vboxnetadp)
I think vboxnetadp is used for networkiing. and vboxnetflt sounds like network filtering stuff. Can someone please confirm me? I think the problem was the sequence of upgrading. Firstly it updated the kernel and then installed the new version of virtualbox. I think if it could install the new version of virtualbox first and then the kernel, it would go without any problem, just my opinion as I said.
Let's keep tracked on this. Maybe someone will find a solution before virtualbox developers :-)

Explorer is a Microsoft, not an Adobe product. You can download it from
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/download-ie
For installing Reader, you may try downloading its full installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

  • Cannot print .pdf attachments in Outlook 2010 on local usb printer using the lastest Adobe Reader

We can't print pdf attachments from Outlook 2010 on a users local printer via usb with the latest Adobe Reader but it can print to a network copier. We can print from the local printer emails, webpages, regular pdf's on the hard drive.
    Please advise and thanks.

What is the behavior that you are seeing? Are you getting some error or is it simply failing to print with Reader 10.1.2.

When doing a quick print with a right click on the pdf attachment, it will print.
Also, please let me know that if a simple Right Click > Print operation is working, then what exactly is the operation that is failing.

  • Can't launch Adobe Reader 11.0.06: 'An internal error occurred'

Today I purchased a highly recommended e-book ('Rally All Around') which is available by download. Double clicking on its file brought up a message that I needed a newer version of Adobe Reader, and linked me directly to 11.0.06 (Mac) on the Adobe site, which I downloaded and installed. Unfortunately, this application refuses to launch: irrespective of whether I try to launch it directly, from the Applications Folder, or by double clicking the new book, I receive the 'An internal error occurred' error message and the program shuts down. I have followed the advice provided in this forum for a previous version of Reader: I deleted all existing versions of the program, as well as the Adobe Folder in my Library, then attempted to reinstall. I've also used 'Get Info' to ensure I have the required read/write permissions on the application, and the Adobe Library Folder. Unfortunately now I have lost the ability to open any PDF file at all!  I'm very unimpressed (to say the least!) that I have lost hours trying to troubleshoot this problem, as well as my money for the book and functionality on my machine! I am running Mac OS X 10.9.1 on an Intel Core i5. I'd be grateful for help, and advice, if you care to share. I'd like to count to 10 and try and fix this, before succumbing to the temptation to send a howler to the publisher.

I did eventually solve it, and I think it was using this advice I received on the Adobe Forums:
The error that you are facing might be due the reason that the user logged in doesn't have permissions to access the following directory: "~/Library/Application Support/Adobe". Can you please try the following steps with the user account in which you are facing the error:
    1. Remove the Adobe Reader from Applications directory by moving it to Trash.
    2. Now delete the following directory: "~/Library/Application Support/Adobe". Please note that this path is for the Library folder present inside the user directory that you are currently logged in.
    3. Restart the machine.
    4. Now re-install Adobe Reader XI.

I was running version 8 or 9 under windos 7 and it suddenly gave me a strange error message that the Core DLL failed to load.  I have never seen this happen before.  It's also asking me if I want to run protected mode off and I keep saying yes  please help!!

  • Can't launch adobe reader

Since I've upgraded to Lion , Adobe reader will not launch so I'm unable to read PDF files . Help!!?

You may need to to Adobe's website and download an updated version. Or, you could read your PDF files with Preview which is part of OS X.

Now I let the user to use Adobe Reader 9 but need to solve for him. As some pdf files are needed by newer Adobe Reader version.
Please help to fix.   Many thanks.

I have a similar problem - just posted this today, 5th July 2014. I get a message that says windows cannot find c:\programme files(x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\AcroRd 32.exe.  Tried several uninstall/reinstalls with special programmes to check that uninstall was complete. Oddly, a download trial of the full programme Adobe Pro works OK !  If an expert out there can sort this it would be much appreciated.

  • Can't download adobe reader 9

I have a new computer with Windows Vista and I can't download Adobe Reader. Whenever I click download it says I have a shortcut on my desktop to resume download and whenever I try to resume download from that shortcut it just closes the window.
    any suggestions?

I don't think the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility can do anything in this case. Download the full Adobe Reader 9 installer from http://download.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.0/enu/AdbeRdr90_en_US.exe then install it.

  • Windows 2008 windows service cannot launch Adobe Reader

I created a windows service that receives pdf files in one folder and should print them opening adobe reader. In my PC with Windows 7 it works just fine but when the application is deployed in Windows 2008 R2 server then the windows service is not able to
    launch Adobe Reader.
I searched on Internet and I found that it might be related to the Session 0 used by the services.
I tried multiple possible solutions without success.
Thank you in advance for any support with this issue

    Hi,
Are there any related error messages logged?
If not, I suggest you use Process Monitor to find out why exactly Windows cannot launch Adobe Reader.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9.4.5 | Outlook 2010  | Windows 64 bit

In other versions of Acrobat you were able to create PDF files of complete file folders within Outlook.  Originally when Office 2010 came out the Adobe Icon was not available and at that time I checked to see if there was a ‘fix / work around’ for it.  Yesterday, I looked once again and it appears this situation has not been rectified for Adobe Acrobat 9.4.5, Outlook 2010, Windows 64 bit.  After an extensively searching, it appears Nuance has a PDF program ‘Converter Professional 7’ which will convert the complete file folders within Outlook.  BUT I am wondering if Adobe ever fixed this & if not when do they plan on providing a patch with will?

    fwiw -
Adobe's Acrobat updates follow a quarterly release schedule.
That puts the next round of updates in the September time frame.
Aside from the product update page John provided, updates are tracked at this Adobe Blog:  http://blogs.adobe.com/psirt/
Keep in mind that Acrobat X is the current commercial release. Acrobat X at 10.1.0 provides some Windows 7 64-bit support via PDFMaker.
PDFMaker compatible applications, for Acrobat 6 through X are identified here:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/333/333504.html
As John posted, Windows 7 32-bit support (&, with 10.1.0 some 64-bit support) is provided by Acrobat X.
Looking at past practices I'd be rather surprised if any update to Acrobat 9.x, during the remainder of its support life, provided 64-bit support.
Acrobat's support life may be viewed here:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/products/enterprise/eol/eol_matrix.html#86
An unfortunate reality is that with migration to a new OS one has to also migrate to new applications sooner or later.
Navigated that tidal ebb & surge from Atari 1040STs & Amigas to DOS (of various flavors) & through the cyclic releases of Windows.
With that said one can always submit a request via Adobe's official request form at:

  • Will updating to iCloud 3.1 wipe out my *group* email contacts as happened before?  Using Outlook on Windows 7, 64 bit.

I have iCloud installed but when I first synced with it, some years ago, iCloud completely wiped out all my email groups that had been so carefully set up in Outlook.  (Windows 7, 64 bit)  It was devastating because some of those contacts were entered only there and could not be recovered.
I am getting notices to update to iCloud 3.1 and it seems to have some connection of signing in automatically to Outlook.  I am worried this will happen all over again, so I have avoided that particular part of the update.
(not to mention updating iTunes has become a holy nightmare)
What have been others' experiences with this?  How to avoid the wipe-out?

    Hello Mizoo,
Thank you for explaining your concern.  I definitely understand the importance of keeping your Contacts organized and the work that goes into it.
If you are hesitant to do the update, I recommend making an archive of your iCloud Contacts before running the update.  The following resource has steps to do this:

  • Can't Get Adobe Reader 8.1 to Open in Windows XP

All of a sudden, I can't get Adobe Reader to open in the Windows XP environment on my laptop. Message: "Adobe Reader 8.1 has encountered a problem and needs to close..." [Error Signature: AppName: acrord32.exe AppVer: 8.1.0.137 ModName: mvcr70.dl ModVer: 7.0.9466.0 Offset: 000013d6] Have tried everything I could think of: uninstalling previous versions, reinstalling 8.1 from the website, disabling Norton 360 protection while downloading. Anybody know what gives and how to fix it?

    >When this many people are having this many problems with the program, Adobe has a problem.
For every one person that's having a problem here, there could be fifty more that aren't.
The ones that aren't typically don't come here and talk about it.
    >If you read through the Adobe Bulletin Boards you can see that there are many, many people having trouble with Adobe Reader 8.1.
And if you read far enough to see the solutions, you'll notice a big trend in user errors.
I'm not saying Reader doesn't have it's issues (sure it does), just saying that there are no more issues with it than there are with any application.

  • Can't get adobe reader to install on my new laptop with windows 8

I can't get adobe reader to install onto my new laptop with windows 8. Basically what happens is that I start the download from the adobe screen by clicking the yellow download button, then I click run (I've also tried save and run), then I allow the program to make changes to my hard drive, and then finally a blank grey box appears in the in the middle of the screen, titled "adobe reader installer". After this box appears nothing else happens. I've let it sit for at least 30 minutes and still nothing. I've also disabled my pop up blocker, and set the security settings to default as suggested in other posts. Unfortunately this is the only pdf program that works for the site we have to use to write contracts, so I need to get this figured out asap. Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

    Try installing from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise
