  • Outlook 2011 Search - Reindex did not fix

I have an iMac running 10.6 with Outlook 2011 using an Exchange account.
Search has stopped working.  I have re-indexed the drive several times. Today, I completely removed the identity, rebooted, re-setup the identity and Exchange account, allowed all mail to download, re-indexed the entire hard drive, rebooted, and search still does not work.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Search problems in Outlook are by no means uncommon. There are some suggestions here that might help:

  • Outlook 2013 Search Problem.

    Hello friends,
My outlook 2013 search box gives no result. I cant find anything after I move pst file from D:\ to D:\outlook\ folder.
Actually there are many topics about this issue in technet and I check the related topics, so I found a little solution.
If I put a check to "allow this file have contents in addition the file" in pst file properties I going to rebuild index and restart outlook seach box working clearly.  But one day later, I see the pst file properties unchecked  So search
    box doesnt work again.
I create new profile but nothing changed.
Do you have any idea ? This is important so I cant find old emails. :(  Thank you all.

Brilliant! I have been looking for this solution for the last month! Apart from re-indexing/ repairing .pst files/ Re-installing .pst files / changing registry directories and setting defaults. Something as simple as de-selecting the "Microsoft Outlook"
worked finally. Thanks Emreoz! I can search my emails again

    Hello,
Although the lists and memberships are listed in the GAL (generated by the calendar server through LDAP calls to OID), there still aren't any 'hooks' into the email server to allow for DL management. We have plans to expose DL management in the future, but not in the short or middle term. For the time being, you'll have to go through webmail to manage DLs.
    Hope that helps,

  • Spotlight not indexing outlook 2011 files

I've found several articles on Outlook 2011 search not working and it pointing to issues with spotlight. I tried all the proposed fixes including the changes listed here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2473212. Nothing seems to be working though these are all geared towards Lion 10.7. Also, in spotlight on 10.8 I don't see a mail messages, I see Mail and Chats but it has a mail.app logo next to it which I'm assuming is looking at a different directory. How can remediate this problem? Not having search functionality is not acceptable. Please help.

    Hi,
Just found a solution to this problem and seems to be working.
    Open System preferences.
    Select Spotlight
    Select Privacy
Open a separate Finder window and select 'Documents'.
    Go find 'Microsoft User data'
    Then find 'Office 2011 Identities'.
Drag 'Office 2011 Identities' to the other window open "Privacy" amongst the spotlight settings.
What this does is tell spotlight to NOT search in outlook, the very opposite to what you want!
However, you then need to highlight the 'Office 2011 Identities' folder and click the - sign which removes it. Your now telling it you want to INCLUDE this folder for when spotlight searches.
By removing adding and removing it, its a bit like the classic IT solution of switch it off and on again. It forces the spotlight to re index everything and therefore including outlook for when searching using spotlight.
Depending on your outlook file size, it could take hours or even days so be patient. If you run a search for something to do with outlook in 'spotlight' you should see its indexing with a blue progress bar. Its working.
Lastly, incase your wondering why this answer involves spotlight and you just wanted a fix for the outlook search and filters, its because outlook for Mac actually uses spotlight behind the scenes.

  • Lion 10.7 clean install with Outlook 2011 mail search not working

Installed fresh copy of lion on my macbook pro 6,2.  Then installed office 2011 and did all the patches.  After the macbook pro finished its indexing I started to use my outlook 2011 email and noticed that email search did not work.  (Outlook 2011 14.1.2 / Lion 10.7)
I fixed it by forcing another index:
    sudo mdutil -E /
    sudo mdutil -i on /
    Now email search works.
    Cheers

I've had this problem since Tiger. Various solutions have been posted, but none have worked for me. It really cripples Mail--I've used emails as my personal database for years, kind of a history log, which worked great in Eudora but Eudora isn't being supported anymore.
After updating to X.5.5, I can search "entire message" for "All Mailboxes" and find everything including emails in the mailbox I was viewing (often finds 60,000 occurences, but doesn't take very long--it's just incredibly tedious to find the one I want from such an enormous set of results). I can also find everything using Spotlight, outside of Mail. But if I am looking at any mailbox, like Inbox, search "entire message" never finds anything at all. Searching for subjects etc works fine.

  • Outlook 2011 for MAC Email problems

    Good Evening,
I have recently purchased microsoft office and have been keen to set up Microsoft Outlook 2011 - although all my emails download initially I have encountered three problems (despite following the guide to set up outlook on mac for BT Mail) which I'm hoping someone may be able to advise on:
Firstly, all of my inbox folders do not download everything is just clumped together in the inbox (i.e. the folders within inbox such as "work" are not there)
Secondly, my emails are not being pushed through automatically I'm having to physically click send and receive in order to download any emails
And finally, when I delete an email in outlook when I log into my BT mail account online the email is still present?
Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Jack

    Hi,
Thanks for all of the responses - I have now done these suggested settings which has downloaded all of the separate inbox folders but I am still having a couple of errors:
1: If I delete an email on outlook 2011 it doesn't actually delete it from my email account
Are you 100% sure the account is now IMAP?
2: I am unable to send any emails I get an SMTP error?
Have you ticked the 'My outgoing server requires authentication' box in the outgoing server section.
3: I still have to click send/receive to receive any emails
This is for Outlook 2010 on Windows, but there will be something similar on your version. Go to File>Options>Advanced>Send/Receive where you should be able to set the parameters required.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

  • Problems setting up rules in office mac outlook 2011

I recently installed office mac 2011 with no problems.  I then installed Intego Personal Antispam which works very well with Mac Mail.  But when I tried to
install it with outlook, ran into problems with the rules.  The rule forms provided with outlook do not look like, nor behave as shown or stated in the
installation instructions.  Any and all help would be appreciated.                        J. Weigel

    Any luck?
I'm running into the same issue of not creating a CardDav - same error. Domain is .private (not sure if that makes a difference). Tried deleting, recreating certificates...trusting you name it w/no luck.

  • Outlook 2011 (Mac) Default Search Folder

This question is for Outlook 2011 (Mac)  Does anyone know how to change the default search folder from All Folders in the Contacts Search? I want to make the default folder my company's ldap directory. It works fine when you select it from the list,
but it would be a lot more convenient if it searched ldap by default. I've searched online and haven't seen an answer to this.
    Thanks.

  • Microsoft Outlook 2011 can't search emails

Since upgrading to Lion, I can't search emails in Microsoft Outlook 2011 (which I also had to upgrade to since Microsoft Office 2004 wasn't compatible with Lion).  Is this a software conflict that can be resolved, or a more serious issue?

  • Outlook 2011 problem syncing contacts with address book

I am aware that Lion has broken the sync ability of Outlook 2011 with Address Book. Hopefullly this will be fixed at some point.
So my problem is that I have decided to use a workaround to get my Address Book contents into Outlook 2011. I am not concerned with further syncing at this point. I just want to get my addresses into Outlook and hope a better fix is offered at some point.
About the only way I could figure out how to do this was to export my Address Book as vCard. I then imported the vCard file into Gmail and then exported that as a CSV file. It contained 550 addresses. I opened it in Excel and it contained 550 rows. Great so far.
I then Imported into Outlook 2011 and chose import a text file. When the mapping window opened, it showed over 890 files instead of 550 and the fields were not mapped correctly. I could not complete the import because it was so screwed up.
So I'm back to square one and very frustrated. There must be others who have the same issue and maybe have figured out a way to do this. Please help.

  • UAG problems with OSX - same problem with Mac Mail and Outlook 2011 (via EWS)

    Hi folks,
I'm trying to fix the last snagging issue I have with OSX clients in a UAG / Exchange 2010 deployment:
When trying to connect Mac Mail or Outlook 2011 the connections are very slow to start up, both at initial config and thereafter.
On connection I see lots of the same error re Session Cookies in UAG and no connection in the mail client. If I leave it for a few minutes, sometime many minutes, the errors stop and I eventually get a working connection.
    The error is:
"Sesson Attempted to Access Restricted Application"
User with source IP address x.x.x.x  tried to access application Exchange EWS that was restricted that was restricted for the session. This might indicate an intrusion attempt by misusing the session cookie.
Has anyone got any suggestions on how to fix this ?
    Many thanks
    Steve

Ruud, no, we didn't find a solution, or rather our solution (so far) is to tell users not to use Mac Mail and to use Outlook 2011 instead, which seems to work fine (after some Office updates!)...and we haven't upset anyone with that requirement
    (yet).
There are some very long discussions on Apple support forums about the whole Mavericks / Mac Mail / Exchange 2010 issues.
I do hope to have another go at this problem sometime soon, I'm sure there must be a solution (and my money says it relates our hardware load balancers).
