Outlook 2013 S/MIME only version 1?

Hi,
I introduced myself into S/MIME signed/encrypted messaging. Got myself a certificate, installed it, set it up in outlook and wrote - myself - some messages for testing purposes, which worked really good.
When logging into the web interface of my free outlook.com address - out of curiosity - I had a look at the message source (code), which I have posted here.
What I found odd, is that it seems to me SMIME version 1 is used, whereas version 3 should be the latest to be supported (according to google searches).
Why? Is it because of the (free) outlook/hotmail servers? Is version 1 less secure than the latest version?
Cheers

Try to open the encrypted email message in Outlook 2013 and click File -> Info -> Properties, check the Internet headers box and see if the MIME-Version is 1.0.

  • Outlook 2013 Advances search only shows cached emails

    Hi all,
We have rolled out Outlook 2013 with cache mode on, we have set caching to only one month of data. We are using Outlook 365 as our exchange server.
Quick search works as it should and shows all the results. However, advanced find only shows results from the cached emails. IE nothing older than a month. I have run a re-index etc but still have had no joy. Is there something I am missing?
    Thanks

Just wanted to say hi and check if there is anything that I can do for you on this problem. If
so, please do not hesitate to let me know and I will be happy to help.

  • Outlook 2013 and read only IMAP database.

We use GFI Mailarchiver's IMAP Server to give our employees access to their archived items.  The IMAP server is read only mode as no one should be changing their archived mail.  This worked flawlessly under Outlook 2010 and prior.
We have now deployed our first 2013 client and have now found that it is trying to write to the read-only database when forwarding or replying to a message that was found in the archive.  My thoughts are that Outlook 2013 is try to modify the message in
the archive with the "you forwarded theis message on September 11, 2014 at 2:15pm"  this causes Outlook to give the message "You cannot make changes to contents of this read-only folder.".  The message seems like a nuisance only
but when you dismiss the message and try to close the forwarded or replied to message, you the the same message again and the only choice is to kill Outlook from the task manager.
Has anyone used Outlook 2013 in a read-only IMAP environment?  Is there a setting to turn of the updates that Outlook is trying to make to the mail store?
    Rob...

    Hi,
Since you are using GFI Mailarchiver's IMAP Server, I'm not able to reproduce the issue or provide accurate suggestions in this case.

  • Outlook 2013 OOF "Forward" rules not working against Exchange 2007

We have found that on Outlook 2013 clients (connecting to Exchange 2007) we cannot set forwarding rules in OOF (Out of Office / Facilities) if we select a recipient from the GAL. The error we get when trying to set the rule is:
"Changes to the rule cannot be saved"
However, if we manually type the SMTP address (without resolving it to the GAL) and click OK the rule is accepted.
We have tested the rule using other versions of Outlook and it appears that Outlook 2013 is the only client that has this problem.
    Any suggestions would be welcome.

The issue is know under OffBug 57619. A support case for this had been started in April but no customer pursued a fix yet.
Currently its status is low and no fix is intended. If this is a critical issue for you and to get it reconsidered, you'll need to open a support incident of your own, refer to OffBug 57619 and state your case as "high customer impact" (in case your not
a Premier customer) and request a Hotfix.

  • Outlook 2013: Your Automatic Reply Settings Cannot Be Displayed Because The Server Is Unavailable

When I configure the Outlook profile manually then receive warning "Your Automatic Reply Settings Cannot Be Displayed Because The Server Is Unavailable" when clicking "Automatic Replies (Out of Office)".
However if I use Autodiscover to configure the Outlook profile the above does not occur and "Automatic Replies (Out of Office)" works fine.
    Client: Outlook 2013 Click-to-Run version 15.0.4551.1011 on Windows 7 Pro SP1.
    Server: Exchange 2007 SP3 on Windows SBS 2008 SP2.

    Hi,
First of all, please make sure you have installed this Outlook 2013 hotfix package (December 10, 2013):
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2825652/en-us
    It may fix the issue.
If the hotfix doesn't help, please note, this problem can occur after your primary SMTP address changes. The problem occurs because your previous primary SMTP address is cached in the Windows registry under your Outlook profile and this information does
not get refreshed for 24-48 hours after the SMTP address change.
So please make sure you have configured smtp address correctly, or, we can find some workarounds from the link below:

  • Outlook 2013 with Exchange Server - Changed custom form for contacts is not shown

    Hello,
    Our infrastructure:
    Exchange Server 2010
    Outlook 2010
    Outlook 2013
Windows 7 Pro, Windows 8 Pro and Windows 8.1 Pro
    The situation:
We've used an old custom form for contacts, worked perfectly fine
I've updated the form (adding some new custom fields and checkboxes) using Outlook 2013 and publishing the form (with a new name) to the Exchange folder
I've set the form as default form in our contacts folder
I've used this Script to set the new form for the existing contacts  and the name of the new form is saved correctly
BUT if I open a contact in our Exchange contacts folder, Outlook 2013 (Outlook 2010) still shows the old form
    Steps I've taken so far:
    Cleared Outlook forms cache
Repeated the above steps 1-4 in Outlook 2010
Switched Cached Exchange Mode off and back on
Allowed Scripts in Trust Center Settings
Used a new clean Windows installation with a new Outlook 2013 installation
Used different Exchange users on different systems, but some behavior when opening contacts
I'm out of options I can think of, so maybe somebody else has some new view on this problem.
Thank you very much in advance!
    Greetings,
    Karl

    Hi,
Is the Exchange folder in which the custom form is published available to all users?
From the description, the script used to work for the old custom form, correct? Which version of Outlook did you use with the old custom contact form? Outlook 2010/Outlook 2013 or an earlier version? If you used the script with an earlier version of Outlook,
we can't make sure it will still work with Outlook 2010/Outlook 2013.
In addition we may also try creating a new contact form and test the steps to see if it will work.
Please let me know the result.

  • Extending Outlook 2013 to multiple instances and profiles under the same user

    Hello,
I understand that Outlook 2013 will only run one profile under a logged in user account. can i use Outlook Primary Interop Assembly
to add that ability to outlook 2013 ?
    Regards

    Hello,
Only one instance of Outlook can be run. You can choose the profile programmatically using the
Logon method of the Namespace class. Here is what MSDN states:
Use the Logon method only to log on to a specific profile when Outlook is not already running. This is because only one Outlook process can run at a time,
and that Outlook process uses only one profile and supports only one MAPI session. When users start Outlook a second time, that instance of Outlook runs within the same Outlook process, does not create a new process, and uses the same profile.
If Outlook is already running, using this method does not create a new Outlook session or change the current profile to a different one.

  • Problems with temperature (Outlook 2013)

    Hi guys,
Anyone had any problems with the temperature in Outlook as I have?

    Hi,
    We have the same Issue.
I have turned off the Exchange-Cache-Mode via accountsettings in Outlook. Restarted Outlook. Et voila! The Problem is gone. After that, I reenabled the Cache-Mode and the bug is still gone. But a few days later the bug happens again in the exact same way.
When I change the weather location there is no fix. Changing the location alters the file C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\RoamCache\Stream_Weather_randomhashvalue.dat. Deleting that file doesn't help either.
The Problem is definetly client-based. Outlook 2013 (32-Bit) only. It appeared after 14.10.2014 which was teh Patchday for this month. Maybe it is a bug in an update? Maybe this one?http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2889951
I'll try to uninstall this Hotfix.

  • Kb2837643 breaks free busy in Outlook 2013

I have proven quite clearly that http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2837643, when applied, breaks Free/Busy in Outlook 2013.
The only resolution we have found is to uninstall the hotfix and totally delete and recreate the Outlook profile.
Has anyone found a less devastating fix?

This is sooooo strange.  I deleted my profile with the Control Panel Mail applet but it wouldn't let me re-create it with the same name, citing "a profile by this name already exists".
It seems Office 2013 and/or Windows 8.1 does something differently now with mail profiles.  By using ProcMON I've found that several registry locations are now referenced for profile information.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Profiles
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Deleted Profiles
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles
All those keys seem to work together some how.. e.g. when I used the Mail applet to delete my profile in the beginning it left my profile in keys 1 and 3 above, but added a new item with my profile name in key #2.
It seems Office 2013/Windows 8.1 now uses keys #1 and #2, but if key #3 exists (say from a Windows upgrade) it imports information from that key.  I really don't know how it all works.. but I digress.
I ended up removing all profiles from all 3 keys above.  This allowed me to create a new profile as intended, but this is where the real oddity comes in.  After first opening Outlook I am able to see free/busy information.  I thought my issue
was fixed, but I realized if I checked it again, it no longer worked!!!
After multiple profile re-creations it seems I can see free/busy information for only about 30 seconds to 1 minute after launching Outlook, but then it stops working.  What is going on here?!?!?!
Note I was thinking it was cached mode so to remove that from the equation I've only been testing without cached mode.

  • Calendar Overlay Outlook 2010 vs Outlook 2013

I developed an Outlook 2010 add-in that allows a user to click a button and in that button it attempts to create a calendar overlay, it works great in Outlook 2010 however the same code in Outlook 2013 fails
The only error that I get is: The Operation failed.
    This is my original code:
    Outlook.Application ouApplication = new Outlook.Application();
    Outlook.Folder newFolder = ouApplication.GetNamespace("MAPI").OpenSharedFolder(calUrl) as Outlook.Folder;
I tried this code this morning and I get the same error
    Outlook.Folder newFolder = ouApplication.Session.OpenSharedFolder(calUrl, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing) as Outlook.Folder;
calUrl is the URL that we are attempting to add to Outlook as a secondary calendar.
What needs to be done to get this to work in Outlook 2013?

    Hello,
What is the actual value passed to the
    OpenSharedFolder method?
    MSDN states the following:
This method is used to access the following shared folder types:
    Webcal calendars (webcal://mysite/mycalendar)
    RSS feeds (feed://mysite/myfeed)
    Microsoft SharePoint Foundation folders (stssync://mysite/myfolder)
    iCalendar calendar (.ics) files
    vCard contact (.vcf) files
    Outlook message (.msg) files
This method does not support iCalendar appointment (.ics) files. To open iCalendar appointment files, you can use theOpenSharedItem method
    of the NameSpace object.
Be aware, you can use the GetSharedDefaultFolder method
of the Namespace object to share default folders, such as the Inbox folder, in Exchange. Have you tried to use it instead?

  • Outlook 2013 - Exchange Outlook anywhere

    Hi
I'm the admin of our own hosted Exchange 2010 server. We have 1 client access server and 1 mailbox server, both running Server 2008 Std and Exchange 2010.
Running Outlook 2010 and earlier, there's absolutely no problems, no popups whatsoever. I upgraded to Outlook 2013 as one of my clients did the same and started getting popups. When you open Outlook, I get a popup - "Windows Security - Microsoft Outlook
    - Connecting to my e-mail address". The OK is greyed out and when I click on Cancel, Outlook shows "Need Password" in the bottom right hand corner. When I click on that, Outlook connects and works perfectly from there. When I close
and re-open Outlook, same thing happens.
From other forums I checked for the two updates they mentioned, but I do not have them. I tried installing them to remove again, but they weren't even compatible with my setup. (Win 7 Ent, Office 2013 Pro). I checked the Autodiscover SSL settings under my CAS'
IIS and that is set to Ignore Client Certificates.
Are there any other things I can try?

  • Outlook 2013 slow to open attatchments

We have Exchange 2010 at our office and we have a few users having issues with Outlook taking over a minute to open up attachments. They are small file sizes around 100k or less usually .pdf, word, or excel files. The computers are running windows 8 and
have 8 gb ram and an i3 cpu so I doubt it's a hardware speed issue. They are using Outlook 2013 and it only seems to be users on 2013 having the issue 2010 users are not having this problem. Any ideas on what to check to get this problem resolved?
    Thank you

As Keith Langmead said, do they run your Outlook profile in Exchange cached mode? Do they is in Intranet which is connects Exchange against RPC/MAPI?
Disable antivirus programs, included mail scanner module and run Outlook in safe mode to check the result. ("Outlook.exe /safe")

  • Adding an S/MIME certificate to an existing contact in Outlook 2013

In previous versions of Outlook (e.g. 2010) when you received an S/MIME signed certificate from an external party you could right click on their name in the message and select "Add to Outlook Contacts". This would then store the cert in a contact
for future use. If a contact already existed then it would prompt you to
update the contact with the additional information including the certificate.
In Outlook 2013 this process appears to be broken (for
    existing contacts at least).
When right-clicking on their name in a signed message you don't get the "Add to Outlook Contacts" option. You only get "Edit Contact" which brings up the new "Contact Card" dialog which has no information about certificates.
If you make a change there and save then the certificate is not stored in the contact.
You can confirm this by right-clicking the sender in the signed email and selecting "Open Outlook Properties" (do not select "Open Contact Card"). In this view click the "Certificates" button in the header and you will see that
there are no certificates associated with the contact.
You can, I guess, export the certificate to disk and then import it into the contact via the Outlook Properties dialog but this is tedious.
Any ideas how to work around this and update an existing contact with an S/MIME certificate?
Any ideas why the certificate information is not accessible in the new Contact Card dialog? Seems unfortunate for those of us using S/MIME.

    Hi Barry,
As per the following article, http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/get-a-digital-id-HA102748952.aspx and specifically the following section:
Add a recipient's digital ID to your Contacts, the ability to see the Certificates depends on the view in which you are opening the Contact card.
In the People or Business Card view we cannot see the Certificates button.
In the Card, Phone or the List view we can see the Certificates tab where the Certificates can be seen.
So to work around this behavior, for new contacts you should Add to Outlook Contacts and then go into the People Pane and Check the Certificates tab to get the cert details.
If you already have the contact added then it becomes a little tricky.
In that case the Certificate is not updated on the "old contact". In such cases I would delete the existing contact and from the latest e-mail that I received, I would Add to Outlook Contacts and that should then get you the new Cert that you received.
If you still cannot access the Certificate information, I would call in and work with someone from the Outlook team to assist you further with this request.
    Hope this helps!

  • When connecting SharePoint Foundation 2013 contacts to Outlook 2013 in Outlook it is read only.
