Outlook 2013 slow to open attatchments

We have Exchange 2010 at our office and we have a few users having issues with Outlook taking over a minute to open up attachments. They are small file sizes around 100k or less usually .pdf, word, or excel files. The computers are running windows 8 and
have 8 gb ram and an i3 cpu so I doubt it's a hardware speed issue. They are using Outlook 2013 and it only seems to be users on 2013 having the issue 2010 users are not having this problem. Any ideas on what to check to get this problem resolved?
Thank you

As Keith Langmead said, do they run your Outlook profile in Exchange cached mode? Do they is in Intranet which is connects Exchange against RPC/MAPI?
Disable antivirus programs, included mail scanner module and run Outlook in safe mode to check the result. ("Outlook.exe /safe")

  • Outlook 2013 crashes when opening Calendar search result

I have a user who uses her Outlook 2013 calendar extensively, mainly to note for herself when she has spoken to a customer, and creating appointments for when she needs to speak to them again. (This is outside of our policy to note the contact in
MS CRM.) She can have scores of such Calendar items each day.
When seraching for these appointments in her Calendar, she gets the list of results, but Oulook crashes when she tries to open any of them. Sometimes Outlook restarts on its own, sometimes she must relaunch it herself.
Related threads reference a wwlib.dll error, but she is not getting that. It is Outlook.exe itself that is crashing. There are other threads that reference other open windows, or items containing webpages or tables, but these do not apply to her, either.

On answers.microsoft.com, Girish M (Support Engineer who eventally directed me here), asked me to run Scanpst.exe. I would paste the results here, but this window does not seem to allow pasting. A summary description of what it found on her .ost file (no
.pst in use) is basically this:
    **Beginning NDB recovery
      **Attempting to open database
      **Attempting to validate header
      **Attempting to validate AMap
      **Attempting to validate BBT
      **Attempting to validate NBT
      **Attempting to validate BBT refcounts
??Couldint find BBT entry in the RBT (E025CC)
**Attempting to validate header NID high-water marks
    **Beginning PST/OST recovery
**Attempting to recover all top-level objects
        **Store created by biuld: 15.4517
      **Attempting to walk all folders
Failed to add row to the FLT, RowID = 719
Failed to add row to the FLT, RowID = 6CD
Failed to add row to the FLT, RowID = 6DE
Failed to add row to the FLT, RowID = 6D8
and so on, and so on, with a few hundred more FLT RowID errors, finally ending with:
**Attempting to locate any orphaned folders/messages
      **Performing Final HMP validation
**Attempting to check top-level objects for consistency
      **Updating folder hierarchy
      **Verifying message moves
My understanding of the Scanpst.exe process is that it also disables any addons which might cause crashing, but the issue is still being experienced. Running Scanpst.exe a second time (appending the previous log, although it seemed to actually prepend the
file) only returned a few lines from the top of the result above ending with "Attempting to validate BBT."
Fixes not attempted yet that I have found performing searches include running the Office Repair tool, or checking for KB2817631 (a Word update that is apparently having adverse affects on Outlook, not attempted yet because it seems to be related to the wwlib.dll
error, which is not happening here).
    Any thoughts out there? Thanks!

    Mavis,
Thanks for the reply. Running Outlook using /cleansharing and
/cleanroamedprefs did not have any effect when used individually or in combination with each other.
Running the Search Index Rebuild option also did not seem to do anything, as the pop-up message indicated that it may take a long time to finish, and yet seemed to finish instantaneously, not giving any indication that the indexing took place. The option
window immediately said "Indexing complete" for 23,755 items.
As to the Outlook Forum, they are the ones who directed me to this forum (you can see the thread on the Answers support page under Office - Office 2013 - Microsoft Office Outlook - Office on Windows 7, under the title "Outlook 2013 restarts when
opening Calendar Search result item" first posted on Dec 11, 2013), as Girish M felt that it might be due to Exchange, and not Outlook. (I have no reports of any of our other users on the same Exchange server having the problem with their Outlook, but
they also do not use it the way this user has been.)
I can repost the issue there, or continue the same thread, if you think the issue lies with them. Was the "Answers" site the improper place to post, perhaps? Should it go in a different thread on Technet instead?
    Thanks for your assistance!

  • Outlook 2013 slow to start with Outlook 365 on Windows 7

    Hi,
I get to work, start up my PC. It's windows 7.
The first thing I do is kick off Outlook 2013 which piggy backs off office 365.
It takes a minute for the splash screen to appear, another minute of watch dots fly across the splash page then a minute while add-ins get applied.
Why does it take so long for the first two phases to complete?
What add ins do I actually need? I've disabled those I think surplus to requirements, but in reality if Outlook 2013/0ffice 365 need them why do they need to be added in at all?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
According to your description, outlook 2013 connects to Exchange online server very slowly.
If yes, we can try the following methods to narrow down the cause of the slow performance:
    1. Try start your Outlook in  safe mode, and check the launch speed;
    2. Check if you have enabled  Cache Exchange Mode, if no, enable it and try start Outlook, and check the launch speed;
    3. Create a new profile with no email account, try start Outlook, and check the launch speed;
    4. Create a new Profile with the other email account, try start Outlook, and check the launch speed;
Since the issue is related to Exchange online, I recommend you ask for help on our Exchange online forum:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/msonline/en-US/home?forum=onlineservicesexchange
Thanks for your understanding in advance.
If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.

  • Outlook 2013 won't open Word and Excel attachments

Had a new PC set up with MS Office 2013 programs.  Outlook 2013 Word and Excel attachments do not open.  Program opens, but to a blank screen.  This includes my attachments created on the same computer.  Boxes in "Trust Center"
are unchecked.  Problem persists.  It is possible to save the attachment, then open Word or Excel and see the saved file, but this is time consuming and annoying.  Outlook 2013 should just open its attachments from the message without a thousand
    extra steps.  Thank you.

    Hi Gish,
    Thank you for your question.
Did this issue occur in OWA?
We could open outlook->File->option->Trust Center ->Microsoft Outlook Trust Center->Trust Center Setting->Attachment Handing->Attachment and Document Preview…
Then we make sure all option have check. And didn’t uncheck “Turn off Attachment Preview”, or rebuild the profile to check if the issue persist.
If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.
    Best Regard,
    Jim

  • Outlook 2013 will not open correctly

So I have just installed Office 2013 on a new install of Windows 7 as part of some evaluation work, my issue is when I open Outlook 2013, I get one, sometimes two blank windows with the title WORD either infront or sometimes behind the outlook window, and
outlook doesn't display the preview of the email correctly. I have tried a repair option but that didn't help.
I also looked in task manager and sure enough along with Outlook there are two instances of word, these all close if I exit outlook
What I have found is if I have outlook full screen, the two word windows open infront of the outlook GUI, I can hit the X to close those and then I see outlook but the preview screen is not working, I have to open the email to see the body. If I put outlook
in window mode (not max full screen) the two outlook windows open behind and I do get the preview screen and can not close them with the x button...

    HI
I have the same issue with Office 2013 Outlook 2013, but with W8, Outlook crasjes after starting upp.(Same problem with Lync 2013)
After investigating, I found out that the driver to Matrox M9138, the WDM one, was causing this. I found out, if I used the std driver in win8, Outlook worked. A soon as I uppdated to 4.03.00.147
WDDM NoWHQL W8 Beta, Outlook 2013 krasjet.
Without the Matrox 4.03 xxx drivers, I can't use the 2 other screens, so this is not a option.
It seems that its not the power desk app that is the issue, but the drivers....
Not sure if this is something that must be solved in the Matrox driver, or Outlook 2013.
My solution for this problem, was to dropp Office 2013, and  for 2010.....
I hope this helps you guys to find a solution to this problem.....
I just came aware of that, the Matrox driver is in Beta... maybe the will solve this the next driver(been waiting since dec 2012)

  • Outlook 2013 are not opening and showing pst files are not closed properly

    Hi
Outlook 2007 has stopped working and showing close the program. Again,we re-started then outlook 2007 and it has opened and taken the backup of pst files in a separate hard drive.
The pst file was repaired in scanpst.exe and again i have tried to put the pst file back in outlook 2007.It was hanging and suddenly i have uninstalled 2007 and started installing outlook 2013.
2013 applications like word, excel, power point are opening and outlook 2013 are not able to open and showing pst files were not closed properly.
Again i have un-installed and re-installed the outlook 2013.still we are not able to open the outlook.
Need your support at the earliest to fix the issue.
    Thanks

    Hi,
What's the .pst file used for? Archive? Or you set up a POP3 account and want to import the emails from the .pst file?
Another question, you mentioned you installed Outlook 2013 and it didn't open either. Was this from the beginning right after you installed Outlook 2013, or after you did something such as create a new Profile, set up a new account and tried to import the
    .pst file?
Kindly answer my questions so I can understand the situation better.
I've seen some of this issue caused by the anti-malware software, check your anti-malware software to see if it's trying to interfere with Outlook - things like real time email checking can sometimes cause these kinds of problems. To troubleshoot, we can
simply disable the anti-malware software temporarily to see the result.

  • Outlook 2013 won't open calendar items created on Outlook 2007

I have a user that recently got office 2013 pro plus on his computer.  We created a new profile and connected him to exchange 2010.  Now when he tries to open up a calendar item that was created prior to the 2013 install it just spins and you have
to cancel outlook.  He can create new calendar items and then open them up again but any item that was created with 2007 locks up.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hi Jason,
I agreed with ED's point. If everything in your mailbox can work well in OWA and Outlook 2007, the mailbox in your server side should be healthy and configured properly.
Personal opinion, I suggest that we can try another computer with Outlook 2013 to check whether the issue persists. Also start Outlook by using Outlook /safe and Outlook /cleanprofile switches to have a try.

  • CRM OUTLOOK 2013, slow performance

estimates, installing Outlook 2013 on my workstation, the team's performance is significantly degraded, to the point that the user can not operate normally, Outlook loading for the first time too you delay, how I can help solve the problem ?

    Hi,
Please start Outlook in Safe Mode, check if the performance is better:
Press Win + R, type "outlook.exe /safe" in the blank box, press Enter.
If the performance is much better in Outlook Safe Mode, I suspect there may be some add-ins that cause Outlook to perform slow, disable the suspicious add-ins to verify which one caused the issue.
Another possible cause that makes Outlook slow, is that the users' mailboxes are too large, check if the performance issue is gone to cache fewer emails:
In Outlook 2013, click FILE -> Account Settings -> Account Settings -> Double click on the Account Name, select "1 month" or "3 months", after all the items are synced, check the performance.
One last thing, Office 2013 now relies on higher system requirements than previous versions, the performance is also related to the hardware device. Please refer to this link below to check the system requirements for Office 2013 including Outlook 2013.

  • Outlook 2013: can't open inline attachments

Hi, a colleague of mine has in Inbox an email with inline attachments that I can see in the body of the message:
He said he could open these attachments with Outlook 2007. A few days ago we upgraded to Outlook 2013 and now he can't open them. A security popup shows, because outlook identifies it as an external content unsafe, but if he proceeds Word tries to open and
then crashes. If he tries to open with another application (such as notepad) it says "I cannot find the file C:\temp\cid:a0d0" etc etc
I tried to extract the attachment with a third party software but on this email it doesn't discover any attachment.
I cannot guarantee at 100% that these files could be opened with Outlook 2007, but I believe to my colleague. So, is there a reason why it is no more possible to open these attachments?

    Hi Maurice 7785,
Deal and customize attachment security behavior to access such kind of blocked file format. Usually, Outlook does not allow users to open such unsafe type of attachments. It means they are blocked them by default, so you need to unblock such items using REG
    values.

  • Outlook 2007 mails are upgraded to outlook 2013 but after uninstalling Microsoft 2007,outlook 2013 are not opening.

    Dear Support
Yesterday, i have upgraded the outlook mails 2007 to outlook 2013.Today i have uninstalled the Ms-Office 2007 and try to open the outlook 2013.The application is not working and showing the message of quick repair (or) go to online to fix the issue.
Let me know what is the root cause of the issue and why it has happened?
Is there any option to upgrade the mails from outlook 2007 directly to outlook 2013.
    Thanks & Regards
    Pradeep.R

    Hi,
Both of them rely on some system files and some interrelated registry keys. So, this is a direct result of that interdependence. When you uninstall the previous version of Office from your computer, it will definitely break the existing installation, a repair
is required to fix all the corrupt registry entries.
We do not recommend to install multiple versions of Office on one computer, we suggest you to completely remove any previous version first if you do not plan to use any of the Office applications of a previous version of Office, then install it.

...Please let me clarify what type of back ground process was running at that time.
The same reply was informed to my Team Head and he is not accepting .
    Hi Pradeep.R,
As per your description above, I think it's not an Outlook specific issue as you also observed that "even control panel and other installed programs is not opening and responding"
There is no way for us to know "what type of back ground process was running at that time". I would suggest you to check in the

  • Word 2013 slow to open documents from SharePoint 2013

    Hi all,
Word 2013 running on a Windows 8.1 client is take 2 or more minutes to open a document from SharePoint 2013. Excel takes less then 10 seconds from the same site in SharePoint.
I have remove all proxy configuration from IE, clear the Auto Detect Settings. Added the URL's to the intranet zone and disabled all IE addons. I have also performed a reset on IE, reinstall of Office and tried a number of workstations. All have the same
issue. The document just take forever to open.
Checking with Fiddler, I can see 3 requests hit the SharePoint server then nothing... after a few minutes the document opens.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers

    Hi Craig,
For troubleshooting your issue, please take steps as below:
1.Open IE, go to "Tools > Internet Options > Connections > Lan Settings" and uncheck "Auto Detect Proxy".
2.From the File tab in Word application, select Options and then click on Advanced and then in the Display section of the dialog, check the box for
    Disable hardware graphics acceleration.
3.Edit the registry at HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.Document.12\shell\Open and deleting the ddeexec key.

to create new profile no success. Then I tried to re install it yesterday and it worked fine until I got updates again today and it stops open again.
Is something wrong with Office 2013 updates?
Any suggestion/solutions to fix this problem.

    Hi,
Since Outlook works fine in safe mode, you can also try to open Outlook with
/safe:1 and /safe:3 commands to narrow down the cause.
/safe:1  Starts Outlook with the Reading Pane off.
/safe:3  Both native and managed Component Object Model (COM) add-ins are turned off.
Please also try to open Outlook with /resetnavpane command to check if this issue is caused by corrupted Navigation Pane settings. To do this, press Windows key + R to open the Run command, type
    outlook.exe /resetnavpane and press Enter.
If above not working, please try to use the Inbox Repair Tool to scan and repair your Outlook data file errors to check the result. See:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-in/outlook-help/repair-outlook-data-files-pst-and-ost-HA102749454.aspx?CTT=1
In addition, you can try to uninstall these updates to check if Outlook will work, so that we can determine if this issue is caused by released updates.

  • Microsoft office outlook 2013 slower than 2000

If you want to be able to send and receive Gmail emails through Outlook.com, Microsoft's service will only
use POP to fetch them which means that delivery is not immediate (POP fetching usually happens in 15 minute intervals). Why?
