Outlook 2013 stuck in 'updating inbox' cycle

I have a problem with a couple of users and I have never been able to find a definitive fix and its incredibly irritating.
I know a few people have has this problem, a users mailbox works fine and then suddenly it will stop sending emails, it then gets stuck in a 'updating mailbox' 'Last updated at xx:xx' cycle. This is a local install of Outlook 2013 connecting to a hosted
exchange server.
Recreating the mail profile has been done with one user at least twice and the problem still persists. It was fine last week and then this morning it stopped again. I am trying to recreate the problem on another PC for this one user as I am trying to work
out if its a connection problem or PC problem.
Any ideas?

Hi Derrick,
Are you using Cached Exchange mode or Online mode? If the user is in Cached Exchange mode, what's the size of his/her mailbox (.ost file)?
The issue may be caused by some network issue. Please check the Outlook connection status when this issue happen again. To do this, press and hold down Ctrl key, click on the Outlook icon on the system tray area, and then choose Connection Status.
Or, if possible, simply connect Outlook to a different network, then verify result.

  • Outlook 2010, stuck at updating inbox for users

Hi. I am a support technician at a company.
We had a lot of Windows XP, Outlook 2007, systems, e-mail worked excellent.
We then migrated to Outlook 2010, the XP systems continue working without problems.
However I've been having some random Windows 7 systems, Outlook 2010, having this issue of the inbox not updating, it just stays stuck at "Updating Inbox" and can stay like that for the whole day.
This is causing issues because some of those users are VP and of course want their email right away.
I've tried recreating ost, profile, and issue reappears. However I'm not sure if users don't report it, or if it's just random, because I don't hear about it everyday, just randomly maybe once a week or two times a week.
None of what I've tried has work, new ost, new profile, repair account, even a new installation of Office. Issue keeps reappearing. Safe mode has same problem. OWA and phones update right away.
The closest I've come to sort of fixing it is running a repair of Office, after the repair, the emails go through right away, but then issue reappears days later.
I'm not really sure what could be causing this. I've searched online and seem to find a lot of similar problems with no conclusive solution.
Some of the things in common, these users receive lots of emails in the mornings, have lots of folders underneath inbox.
If only it would download them slowly, but it just appears stuck when this happens.

    Hi,
According to your description, if owa works fine, it most likely a outlook client issue.
I recommend that you post this in office forum, there will more experts to help you:

  • Exchange 2010 + Outlook 2013 = Items deleted from inbox, Keep Re-Appearing. (Cached mode outlook only)

    Hey Team,
We have a single user who when she deletes items from the Inbox they re-appear (in the inbox), if she is running in cached exchange mode. The items do not re-appear in OWA.
She is not experiencing any network connectivity issues
We have rebuilt her MAPI profile including deleting all existing OST files
We have removed and reinstalled outlook / office 2013
She is the only user with the issue
    There are no Sync issues
As soon as we disable cached exchange mode this issue immediately goes away, she is running Office 2013 RTM.
    Any Ideas,
    Thanks,
    Robert

    Hi Robert,
If change another PC to configure her mailbox within outlook 2013, is there the same issue?
In addition, you can try to move her mailbox to another database and check if any helps.

  • Outlook 2013 stuck at splash screen even on safe mode

I was trying to add in an IMAP account to my Outlook 2013, when it hanged, so I forced-stop it via Task Manager and tried to restart the application. But right now, it's forever stuck at "Loading Profile" the splash screen. I tried to restart it
in safe mode too, but experiencing the same problem.
    Help?

    Hi altern4te,
First, perform a clean boot to find out about programs which are interrupting the Outlook. So, you will accurately understand the cause of this hang up.
It can be antivirus programs or something else.
For more about clean boot in Windows:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796
    Note:
As you are not able to open Outlook in safe mode, you cannot disable the add-ins which generally cause behind such types of disturbance.
Hopefully clean boot method will solve it, otherwise this can happen due to corrupt Outlook Data File or Outlook profile.
To fix corruption and its issue:

  • Help please? Outlook 2011 stuck on 'updating message list' after deleting 1000's of emails from my 'deleted items' folder

    Hello.
I've been searching online for an answer and can't find one - hopefully someone can help...
I recently updated to Yosemite and decided on a general clear-out, so went through 1000's of documents, photos, emails, etc. I ended up deleting the all of the emails in my 'deleted items' folder. Since then, when I go into Outlook and hit the 'send/receive' tab it logs on as normal, but then gets stuck on 'updating message list' - it shows me that there are emails and how many, but will not download them.
Does anyone have any experience of this?
    Many thanks!

As Outlook, part of MS Office, is not an Apple product, I strongly recommend asking in the Microsoft Office:Mac forums here:
    Office for Mac
Everyone there is a Mac user AND an Office user, something you can't say about Apple's forums. You will get the fastest help there and I think you will find the contributors more than helpful.

  • Outlook 2013 messages removed from inbox

I am using a local installed copy of Outlook 2013 with Office 365 online as the exchange. As messages come into the inbox, they only remain there for only several seconds and then are removed. I have checked all rules and message views. I have tried recreating
the account and a new .ost but it starts doing it again only after a short time. If I check the "View on server" button under the Folder tab, the missing messages are there, obviously since I am viewing the online folder. I have noticed the sync
issues folder is constantly having sync issues with the following errors:

    Hi,
Please close Outlook and only use Outlook Web App (OWA) to receive messages to check whether the issue also happens in OWA. If the issue doesn't happen in OWA but only in Outlook client, please start Outlook in safe mode to check whether the issue persists:
Click Start > Run > type Outlook.exe /safe and enter
If the issue continues in Outlook safe mode, we can consider to configure this Office 365 account in another computer to check whether the issue can be reproduced.

  • Outlook 2013 since last patch (Dec 2014) gives error: System Administrator - Undeliverable

After installing the latest round of patches from Microsoft in our environment, we have had numerous users having this issue.  When sending an email, internally or externally, they get the following message.
Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.
    From: System Administrator
    Subject:  Undeliverable: Email Subject
          Subject:    Email Subject
          Sent: 12/16/2014 9:21 AM
The following recipient(s) cannot be reached:
          Person#1 on 12/16/2014 9:21 AM
This message could not be sent. Try sending the message again later, or contact your network administrator.  Error is [0x80004005-00000000-00000000].
The problem is sporadic and sometimes just closing Outlook and reopening it will fix the problem.  The problem does happen both when the users are in the office and when they are out.  There isn't any pattern that we can identify.  It
happened to me once and a reboot resolved it for me.  We thought that maybe a specific patch that was installed just needed another reboot but we still have other users that are having the problem even after numerous reboots.
A little more about our environment:
Exchange 2010, fully patched with all service packs and updates (single server)
Running on a Windows 2008R2 server with all service packs and updates
Outlook 2013 with all updates installed
Happening on both Windows 8.1 (fully updated) and Windows 7 (fully updated)
Again this just started happening after the last patch cycle and we have never had this situation occur prior to that.
    Steve Eason, MCSE FM:Systems

If you installed Exchange 2010 SP3 RU8 then you need to update to the 2nd revision of that update, as the first one had that very issue.
    Update 12/12/2014:
Exchange Server 2010 SP3 Update Rollup 8 has been re-released to the Microsoft download center resolving a regression discovered in the initial release. The update RU8 package corrects the issue which impacted users connecting to Exchange from Outlook. The
issue was insulated to the MAPI RPC layer and was able to be isolated to quickly deliver the updated RU8 package. The updated RU8 package is version number 14.03.0224.002 if you need to confirm you have the updated package. The updates for Exchange Server
2013 and 2007 were not impacted by this regression and have not been updated.
    Update 12/10/2014:
An issue has been identified in the Exchange Server 2010 SP3 Update Rollup 8. The update has been recalled and is no longer available on the download center pending a new RU8 release. Customers should not proceed with deployments of this update
until the new RU8 version is made available. Customers who have already started deployment of RU8 should rollback this update.
The issue impacts the ability of Outlook to connect to Exchange, thus we are taking the action to recall the RU8 to resolve this problem. We will deliver a revised RU8 package as soon as the issue can be isolated, corrected, and validated. We will
publish further updates to this blog post regarding RU8.
This issue only impacts the Exchange Server 2010 SP3 RU8 update, the other updates remain valid and customers can continue with deployment of these packages.

  • Outlook 2013 trying to connect

    Hi all,
lately we been experiencing that some users Outlook takes some minutes before it success Connection to Exchange (2013),At bottom right corner of Outlook it says trying to Connect and will freeze/hang if try to click or mark another folder. Most of the times
it Connects after 2-3 minutes. It started this week and for other users there are no issues at all. When try to add share mailboxes it also take 2-3 minutes after you hit ok.Both Windows (8 and 8.1) and Outlook (2013) have latest updates.
Network Department said they have implemented teredo, but that shouldnt be the cause of problem.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
yes we also tried to setup New profile and it also hangs on last stage at finding server. After 2-3 minutes it fine, but when try to add shared mailboxes it hangs for 2-3 min each mailbox we try to add. Those shared mailboxes varies from 100mb to 5gb.
When check Connection status it says connecting and type is Exchange mail.So i Guess it hangs for each time it try to Connect to shared mailboxes.
On server all Resources are fine, disk Space is good,no event log,no Queue.
Even test-mapiconnection it has good response time.We are still on CU3,since have heard some issue With CU5 and waiting.Again this have been working fine until this week.No updates have been done at all on those servers (2 Exchange 2013,with CAS and mailbox
    on each).

  • Emails show up on web but not in Outlook 2013 inbox

I have several email accounts and one of them that is working fine on Outlook 2013 is set up as a Microsoft Exchange account. But the other ones are set up as IMAP/SMTP accounts and the emails don't show up in the inbox, only on the web. When I check the
settings and run a test, everything goes through fine. Why don't the emails show up in my Outlook 2013 inbox? Help!

    Hi,
What's the build number of Outlook you are using? Please first make sure you have installed all available updates. This is because Microsoft has released an update before which has fixed several IMAP issues in Outlook 2013. See:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2837618
If above doesn't fix the issue, we may also try the following steps to see the result:
    1. Open Outlook, click File > Info > Account Settings > Account Settings.
    2. Double-click your IMAP account to open the Change Account
    wizard.
    3. Click More Settings button, click Advanced tab.
    4. Under Folders heading, type Inbox in the blank box.
    5. Click OK and then click Next to complete the configuration.
Please let me know the result.

  • Outlook 2013 Category view not updating after Exchange 2010 SP3 RU3

After updating to Exchange 2010 SP3 RU3 last night, users who use categories view in Outlook 2013 are complaining that the view does not update. The alert is received in the notification area and the unread message count next to Inbox updates appropriately.
The view can be force updated by switching between All and Unread, by using Reset View, or closing and opening Outlook.  It seems anything that forces a 'redraw' of the view will update it - except for the actual reception of email.  I easily replicated
    this issue.  For reference:
    Exchange 2010 SP3 RU3
    Windows 7 x64 Ent
    Outlook 2013 (15.0.4551.1004) 32-bit
I do see that SP3 RU4 has been released, however the only change listed is a security patch.
    Thank you for any ideas.

    Hi, Everyone –
This has been a known issue for a very long time – we have people at our workplace that are very disappointed since a feature as great as categorizing email (not using tasks) has become broken and has not even been considered to be fixed for
over half a year.  It was not fixed in the updates for Patch Tuesday this week.
I would like to confirm that this is an issue with Outlook 2010 and 2013 when running the latest Exchange 2010 and there is NO FIX
    – I have scoured the internet for a solution – all proposed "textbook" solutions do not work and I am positive that the issue can be recreated; however, everyone from Microsoft does not mention trying to recreate the issue at all.
The workaround of creating a rule to send new emails to a category could break other pre-existing rules and cause more frustration and wasted time for users/IT before and after the issue is fixed.
Please fix this issue sooner than later, as the Categories view is completely broken and unusable at this point in time.
    Regards,
    IT Helper

  • Inbox emails downloaded in Outlook 2013 but not my others folders emails they r showing empty in outlook

Inbox emails downloaded in Outlook 2013 but not my others folders emails they r showing empty in outlook

    Hi,
What’s your account type using in Outlook? IMAP account or Exchange account?
Please make sure your Outlook 2013 is updated to the latest version. Then click Send/Receive > Send/Receive All Folders to manually download mailbox data files from mail server to Outlook data file. If it fails, please recreate the IMAP account in Outlook
    to have a try:

Additionally, if you are using IMAP account, we can also refer to the following article for more IMAP Syncing issue troubleshooting:

    Thank you

    Hi,
Generally for emails stuck in Outbox issue, we need to try basic steps as below:
    1. Work offline, move the stuck mail into another folder. Restart Outlook and Work online to send it again.
    2. Temporarily uninstall or disable firewall and antivirus software.
    3. Test in Outlook safe mode.
    4. Create a new profile and re-setup your account.
As you have tried to disable Anti-virus, we also remind you to disable the firewall to test.
Please run MFCMAPI to check if there are emails or corrupted items that are stuck in Outbox, if yes, please delete them.

  • Cannot recieve email in Outlook 2013 Inbox

Set up Exchange Outlook 2013 email. Everything worked in the setup, however Outlook will only send but not receive inbox messages. Set up in Windows Mail and Apple phone and all is good. Only Inbox messages in Outlook not working.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
According to your description, I understand that outlook client can send but not receive messages.
I want to double confirm some points, please help me to collect answers to following questions:
1.How is the impact , one user or all users?
    2.Cannot receive internally or externally?
3.How about receiving by using OWA?
4.Any error messages when cannot receive?
If OWA works fine, this indicate that an issue on the Outlook client side.
Please check whether the messages exist in the Junk E-mail folder. If yes, please re-configure the Junk E-mail Filter.
Please run Outlook safe mode to avoid some AVs and add-ins, or re-create profile for testing.
Please Send/Receive all Folder or Update Folder in Outlook.
Also try to collect related error message for the further troubleshooting.
    Best Regards,

  • Outlook 2013 sending replies stuck in outbox problems

I have Outlook 2013 with a maddening problem! Please keep in mind that any solutions you may have should be answered so that
mildly tech savvy such as myself can understand. The problem mostly happens when I'm replying to an email but sometimes with a fresh email. When I hit send the email just stays stuck in my outbox and I get an error message 0x800ccc0F.
I'll open up the stuck email and hit send again and nothing still stays stuck. I spent a long time chatting with MS tech support and he had me uncheck/disable all of my add ins and all my emails sent! Great! Next day without making any changes I was  back
to the same problem, then later they would send fine, a day later same problem - you get the picture for the last few weeks. Rechecking and unchecking the add-ins or restarting outlook or my computer sometimes helps but the problem persists. One interesting
note while on tech support I was replying to my own test emails to myself and they were staying stuck in my outbox, but also showing up in my inbox and not showing up in my sent mail folder -WTH??? Lastly I use Go-daddy SMTP email and did tech support
with them to check all of my outgoing settings and even tried some alternate settings which made no difference. Please help as I use Outlook for work all day and have spent countless hours trying to figure this out.

    Hi,
Please use your webmail to check whether the email stuck in your Outbox or Draft folder. If the issue only happens in Outlook, please disable all anti-spam or any related mail programs to have a try. Also try to create a new Outlook profile:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829918/en-us
If it doesn't work, please change a computer to configure your email account in Outlook to check whether the issue persists.
