Outlook categories

Has Apple solved the problem of syncing outlook categories with multiple devices both PC's and Macs.
It use to be that Icloud did not retain the category assignments made in Outlook on PC. Syncing would often times loose all category assignments wether it be contacts, calendar or tasks. I need to syncing both ways from Outlook on PC, Macbook pro, Iphone, Ipad and Mac Pro computer. Why has this been such a challenge?

I agree. It is Ridiculous in my opinion. There is a third party I tried it. Didn't work for me because they wanted me to sync my contacts on their cloud. It doesn't work with USB Sync. But if you want to try it here:

  • Outlook categories and sort by company

Hello and apologies. Perhaps my questions was already posted but I didn't find entries (used the search though).
(When) will iTunes sync the outlook categories to iPhone/iPod? I heavily used this feature on the win mobile device.
Also, is it possible to sort and list contacts by company (grouped by it)? That's standard on windows devices.
    Thanks for answers....

I have noticed something useful when entering contacts directly into my iPhone. When entering a contact that I want shown in the list by the company name, I enter the company name first (without entering the "first name" and "last name") and save it. If you do it that way, the little square where the photo would be will change from the blank head to some buildings, and the contact will be listed by the company name. You can then go back and edit to add a first and last name and it will stay listed by company name.
However, if you enter the last name, first name, and company name all at the same time it will list the entry by the "last name" instead of by the company.
For example, if I want my son's doctor's office to display as "Arizona Pediatrics" instead of "Dr. John Smith" in the contact list, I would enter the Arizona Pediatrics first, save, and then go back in and add the Dr. John Smith in the last name, first name fields.
I need to check the manual to see if this is detailed, as I stumbled on it accidentaly, but it's pretty useful.

  • Outlook Categories and Colors for Email and Calendar on iPhone

I was hoping that the iPhone would retain my Outlook categories and category rules. For example, when new emails come into my Outlook Inbox, they get categorized based upon the sender of the email. Does iPhone respect Outlook categories? Also, when I put meeting requests on my Outlook Calendar, they are color coded based upon those same categories. Customer A gets Blue, customer B gets Orange, etc. Is the color supposed to be retained when I look at my Outlook Calendar on my iPhone?
    Thanks

Are these rules applied on an Exchange Server or locally on the computer?
If they are local on the computer, then any rules your have in Outlook will not pass over to the iPhone.
Any rules on the Exchange Server would happen on the server side and the iPhone would mirror what is on the server.
If you are not using an Exchange server and you want the same folder information from your computer to show on the iPhone, then you can use either an IMAP email account or MobileMe service.

  • Outlook categories and colors over push sync with exchange server

    Hello,
in which way can i get the outlook categories, colors and privacy flag from my company outlook over the exchange push sync to my iphone?
Currently I'm using an PDA to transport my calendar and tasks. But with our new
iphones I wan't to have only one device for all.
Is there a chance to me to get this szenario work?
    Yours Rüdiger

You cannot, until Apple modifies the iPhone OS so it can handle those flags.
You can submit feedback to Apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html.

  • Outlook Categories not supported on iPhone?

Company uses Microsoft Exchange to sync Mail, Calendar & Contacts.
All of my contacts (1000+) in Outlook are segregated by using Categories which greatly expidited searching contacts on the Blackberry used prior to getting new iPhones this week. Now all contacts are lumped together alphabetically.
Is there any way to get the iPhone to recognize the Categories?

Too much time on engineering for play and looks verus functionality! Opposite of Blackberry!
So is there a way to solve this? An app?
You need an app for the everything in the iPhone to just make it functional.
Haven't seen anyone mentioning about the keyboard, X (clear button) that gets in the way when you typing. As you type the text, it goes behind the X button without a word wrap function. And you can't put the cursor at the of the sentence to delete.

  • Outlook categories in iPhone calendar and contact apps

I use categories in my calendar and contacts in Outlook on my PC.  Is there a way to show those on the iPhone calendar and contacts apps?

Go to Settings>iCloud and turn Contacts and Calendars to On.

  • Setting Outlook Categories resends Mail

    Hello everyone,
We've got a problem at a customers. They use exchange 2013 and the user that has troubles uses Outlook 2010.
The problem, happens if she tries to categories an incoming email, it disappears and reappears with the current time-stamp.
So it looks like the email was send at a different point of time, than it originally was received.
But this happens only on a shared mailbox, not her own and only with a couple of email addresses. It works just fine for about 90% of all incoming email.
We tried it using a different account, and it seems to be the same problem there. So the problem is not caused by her outlook settings.
Has anyone ever had a problem like that before?
    Thanks for your help =)
    Greetings
    Steffen

    Hello,
Firstly, I suggest we try to check whether the issue happens on another computer.
You can firstly try running Outlook in its safe mode, disable any 3rd-party firewall and mail scan software.

  • Outlook categories sync

hi, does BB10 sync the categories of events with exchange/outlook?There is no info on the website. BB7 uses the categories in contacts and tasks but not events. we search our future devices and BB10 looks good for us. but the categories are essential for us. thanks, stefan

Me too. Ever since getting my Z10 over a year and a half ago, it's been the lone bane of my existence. Sure, there have been other issues, but most of those I could deal with and many have been fixed since. Remember when BB used to send out usability surveys to us (something they haven't done in over 8 or 9 months now)?  I would write a whole thesis on the Outlook Contact Category Compatibility issue in the comment sections every chance I got. My biggest issue was as mentioned above - editing a contact - synced via EAS - on the phone, would delete any and all categories set for the contact back on the server, and thus my PC at work - and mess up all the links related to categories on the PC.  Not such a good thing for a "business-minded" device. Well, 10.2 came out - no fix. Then 10.2.1 came out - still no fix. Then 10.3.0 came out - still no fix. Then 10.3.1 came out - are you kidding me? I have not tried the 10.3.2 leak - nor have I heard anything about it related to categories, but I hold out no hope. So, anyone with any kind of connection at all to BlackBerry want to comment on why this one thing has been so obviously ignored for so long?

  • How can i sync my outlook categories ? is there any app, which can do that ?

is there any app, which can do that ?

    Hi karthikk,
    - Didn't you asked that question atleast two times before?
    - Didn't we already told you not to create new threads with the same question?
    See here and here!
Maybe you should provide more information (in your original thread!) instead of asking the same over and over again?
Maybe you should also answer when someone trying to help asks back on you...
    Best regards,

  • Unable to Use Color Categories for Outlook 2013

I've recently installed Office 2013 and found that the categories tag wasn't even on the ribbon (beside the tags where it should and used to be). and whenever i tried customizing the ribbon to add it, it was greyed out in the menu and didn't appear on
the ribbon. Whenever I clicked an appointment, the categories tab wasn't there either. Even the normal tags (Private, High Importance, Low Importance) don't work - they're clickable but they don't work. In the same way, whenever an appointment window opens,
yet again, the categories tab isn't there.

The categories you assign won't sync to the server and be visible on other computers, but you can use either keyboard shortcuts to assign categories or a small macro to bring up the category dialog and assign them for messages on this computer.
This works on selected mail - add a button for it to the ribbon -
    Public Sub CategorizeIMAP()
    Dim objItem As Outlook.MailItem
    Set objItem = Application.ActiveExplorer.Selection.Item(1)
    objItem.ShowCategoriesDialog
    Set objItem = Nothing
    End Sub
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/outlook-categories-flags-and-imap-accounts/ has more information and a macro that works for open or selected items.

  • Ovi is destroying Outlook 2010 Contacts categories

Just bought a Nokia C2-02 and am running Ovi suite 3.1.1.90 and Outlook 2010 on Windows 7 (connecting via USB lead). I'm having problems getting the sync to function properly between the three of them. After several frustraing attempts and loss of data, I decided to start over from scratch — I deleted all contacts from the phone and from Ovi suite and backed up my Outlook contacts in a separate file. Then I sync-ed with Ovi suite with the phone connected. I have about 1,200 contacts in Outlook but unfortunatley the C2-02 only holds 1,000 contacts (wish Nokia could have mentioned that in all the bumf I read through about it on their website before purchasing!). They sync-ed, but stopped at 1,000 (alphabetically up to Ss). Since then, it's been sync-ed a couple of times, as I experimented with the Calendar feature. On the last sync, Ovi has destroyed loads of my Outlook contacts data. The Outlook contacts all have detailed categories assigned to them in Outlook. Ovi has wiped the categories from the Outlook contacts! Re-assigning them would take hours in Outlook. Luckily, I backed up the Outlook file, but now I have this problem... how can I prevent Ovi from damaging my data again?
I don't ever want either Ovi or the Phone to update my Outlook data in any way. I just want to be able to sync my contacts and calendar appointments to the phone via ovi.
Any ideas about where I'm going wrong?
    Many thanks

It could be that the limitations of the phone are the reason for your problems. How many categories do you have and how many contacts are assigned into those? The sync engine in Nokia Ovi Suite turns the Outlook categories into contact groups and Series 40 devices (like C2-02) can have 40 contacts groups and 100 contacts in a single group. If these limits are exceeded, sync results are rather unpredictable and some data is lost.
Since you cannot have all your contacts synced to your phone, you must decide which contacts you want to sync. Once you have made the decision, create another contacts folder on Outlook and split your contacts into two groups: the ones that are to be synced and the ones that are not. Once you have done this, go to Tools --> Options --> Contacts on Nokia Ovi Suite and choose the Outlook folder you want to sync with. Now you should be able to sync the selected contacts to your phone without further issues and data loss.

    Tommi

  • Synced items generated in 2007 have changed and /or not synced categories/colors

Just purchased and loaded 365 onto a new high spec machine , after a little confusion with registration /user registration etc it is working , some of it looks nice and familiar - word is opening old word files and templates cleanly and looks quite user
    friendly
Outlook is presenting challenges , I use a windows phone so set up a live.com acct. some while ago to sync contacts and calendar entries ( I also have my own company domain ,accounts have been successfully set up for that)it has all work ed ok until swapping
to 365 the live act is syncing content but is doing odd things with the categories it is showing the category options with all the names I assigned them - clients ,suppliers technical etc etc
    two problems
1 it has changed the colours of all the categories - even leaving some of the previously used colors unused
2 in contacts (now called people ) it has failed to sync the categories for entries although it has brought the names of categories across in the "categorize " option - again with all the colors swapped around
Hoping someone has an answer for this - I do not fancy going through a 1000 or so entries re categorizing them!! :-)
If it helps I have not changed from 2007 on my old laptop - would like to get new system running right before cutting all lifelines!

How do you setup your live account in Office 365? Try to use the Exchange ActiveSync protocal to setup live account in your email profile and then re-sync it.
File > Account settings > New > Manual setup or additinal server types > Outlook.com or Exchange AcitiveSync compatible service
    The mail server: m.hotmail.com
For the categorize color, please check if the MCL is correct in your profile, the following link may also help you:

  • Categories in a Shared Mailbox

    Hi,
I've just had to delete the OST of a user that has her own mailbox and access to a shared mailbox.  When this was recreated, she lost all her categories on the shared mailbox.
My question is, are the categories stored by default locally (in an Outlook 2010/ Exchange 2010 environment) or on the Exchange side?
If the former, presumably the user will need to recreate them? If the latter, should they not populate automatically.? Is there any way of checking whether Categories are enabled on the Exchange server and if they are not turned on, to turn them on?
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hi Steve,
For Exchange account in Outlook 2010, the categories are stored in the default message store (mailbox or pst). If you are setting up a new system and using your old pst the color categories will be available on the new system. Please make sure the color
categories which are set for shared mailbox are the default colors in the color list of Outlook instead of some customized colors.
We can access user mailbox from Outlook Web Access to check whether the categories are still stored in mailbox. For more information about Outlook Categories and Color Categories, please refer to:

  • ICloud not syncing with Outlook 2011 using Lion

My problem is bizarre and the more I seem to troubleshoot the worse it gets.  Since I only just bought my MacBook Pro, Lion was already installed.  I had an old MacBook and the transition was seemless until ICloud came along yesterday morning.  I signed up of course, as I knew I would eventually be forced to anyway and transitioned from MeMobile.  Now I have problems.  No sync between my Outlook 2011 and Address Book and ICloud.  I have been trying to find a solution and have tried the following:
    1. Deleted all the contacts in Address Book and reimported them from Outlook.  This worked fine and Address Book synced with ICloud.  However, when I made changes in Outlook, they would not sync with Address Book and thus not sync with ICloud.  The reverse was also true, i.e. changes and additions in ICloud or Address Book do not sync with Outlook.
    2. I shut down my computer and restarted.  Then I reset the sync services.  The result: All my Outlook Categories and Contacts appeared in Address Book along with all the contacts in ICloud.  When I click on all contacts, I get duplicates of course.  The interesting thing though is the contacts in "All on My Mac" tab in Address Book do not match those in ICloud and ICloud won't sync between the two.  So as a result, the problem above persists.  I still do not get any syncing between Outlook and ICloud/Address Book.  (This by the way was the case before I deleted everything from Address Book and imported everthing from Outlook......so I am exactly in the same place I was before I started troubleshooting........going in circles at this point in time).
By the way, everything works fine for e-mails.  However similar problem with ICal which has also doubled up on all info which was in ICloud and Outlook. I had a memobile account previous so ICloud just imported all that info I assume.  Also, everthing works fine between my IPhone and ICloud.  This is clearly an Outlook/Address Book Syncing problem.
    Any suggestions???

iCloud does not use Apple sync services and Outlook for Mac is not compatible with iCloud, but you should be able to get the mail working.
