Outlook Connector Without Mail Server

Installed Java Connector (v 7.2.310.1) for MS Outlook 2002 with SP3.
I have different usernames and passwords for the mail server and the calendar server. Used fake server name for the mail server in the deployment program, and kept getting the 'Unable to connect to the new server' error when installing on the end user computer.
Is it possible to use the connector just to connect to the sun calendar server and not configure the other servers?

Missing any of the following will result in a large number of warning/errors (and potentially crashes of outlook):
-> Sun Calendar Server (calendar data)
-> IMAP server (email data)
-> UWC instance (addressbook data)
You could probably use a non-Sun email server but this would obviously not be a supported configuration and the username/password would have to be the same as the other three servers.

  • Outlook Connector - No Phonebook Server

Has anyone been able to use the Outlook Connector without using/supplying a phonebook server in the configuration?
    TIA,
    Dave

    Hi,
There is already an RFE (request for enhancement) to remove the requirement to have the UWC based address-book (#6206267 - Make Address Book Server an optional component when configuring OC) - but as the engineers pointed out, removing the address-book requirement is more about removing UWC - which is also required for the mail-filter UI and out-of-office UI.
There was also concerns about storing contacts locally due to local PST corruption resulting in loss of all data - currently this isn't an issue since email/calendar/addressbook data is stored on the server.
Therefore there are no plans to implement this RFE in the near future. You are more then welcome to push this RFE with your Sun sales reps.
With regards to your UWC service, the latest versions of UWC e.g. 118540-42 have proven to be reliable -- if the number of support requests is anything to go by. What version/patch-level are you running?

  • Difficulty in connecting Office Outlook (2003) to mail server

I have two computers at home, a desktop operating Windows XP linked to the router via an ethernet cable and a laptop operating Vista, linked through WiFi, two hotmail accounts, one .com and the other .co.uk. The
desktop uses Office Outlook 2003), the laptop Windows Live Mail. On the same day about 3 weeks ago both computers failed to 'sign in' to the mail accounts. There was no new software uploaded at the time on either. There is no problem with internet access and
I can access both e-mail accounts via the browsers from both machines, so the usernames and passwords are correct. I have email contact, but using Office Outlook and Live Mail are a lot more convenient than 'Outlook.com' in the browser.
I have tried powering down the router and after a while (8 hours!) powering it up again - no change. I have contacted the broadband provider and they told me what outgoing mail server to specify and what the port
number should be, but I can't find anywhere to enter these. When I look for the connections I get taken to the Outlook.com page but that is no help, there is no obvious place for the connections to be specified. What do I do next?
In Office Outlook the tech person advised entering the following.
Outgoing mail server: SMTP.talktalk.net, port 587, Authentication - yes
When I go to 'Outlook Connector', then 'settings', then 'Mail Options', the computer takes me to https://dub125.mail.live.com/mail/options.aspx
and there seems to be no place to enter the name of the server. I can't find any other place for 'settings' in Office Outlook.
In Windows Live Mail I can find the mail accounts and it tells me that they are on an HTTP server with the URL: http://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v2.0.0/sync.aspx
I hesitate to replace this with the mail server given above, because I am not really sure what I am doing.

    Hi,
From your description, OWA works well, the issue should be related to Outlook side. Actually, we have a dedicated support team regarding the Microsoft Office which is staffed by more experts specializing in this kind of problems. Since Outlook 2003 is old
Outlook version, we have not supported for it. It is recommended to upgrade to a later version of Outlook. Your understanding will be appreciated.

  • Outlook 2007 - Outgoing mail server from a 3rd party

I tried to set up the outgoing mail server for my Outlook 2007 with a 3rd party mail server. e.g. mail.xxxx.com, and I could not send the e-mail at all. If I set up the  outgoing mail server as outgoing.verizon.net, I can send the email to everyone else but not to this 3rd party mail server mail.xxxx.com. I received the undeliverable message from Verizon that the mail was rejected due to not being able to log on to this 3r party mail server. I am working for this company from home and it requires me to set up this for my outgoing mail server. Does anyone know how to fix this, including specifying what needs to be done at the 3rd party mail server to change to accept emails sent from outgoing.verizon.net? Thank you in advance. Andy

Port 25 is the standard for SMTP, although some now use a submission port, 587. I know port 25 off network is blocked for residential users, I don't know if 587 is blocked off network because I have never tried it. I suspect it is. Verizon is by no means the only ISP to do this.
Business accounts do not have blocked ports as far as I know, so if you have a business account, you are free to communicate using port 25 anywhere.
Verizon has recently gone to non-standard port assignments for SMTP and POP servers. see

  • Outlook connector - sending mail to alias'es doesn't work ...

    Hi,
We are using JES5 with the latest outlook connector (7.2.402.1)
The user accounts have mailalternateaddress entries that consist of their initials. ([email protected])
the uid is the same as their initials (ie uid=hda)
the main 'mail' attribute is made of firstname.lastname, ie '[email protected]'
In the UWC we are able to type 'hda' in the to: field or 'heidi.alloos', when we click 'send' the @domain.com is added and both mails arrive.
In the outlook connector, I need the same feature but there, i am only able to use heidi.alloos<enter>
When I try to type 'hda' , outlook says 'microsoft office outlook does not recognize 'hda', probably because this entry is - by default - nowheree to be found in the global address list
Is there a way to obtain the same result in outlook, possibly by tweaking some of the entries in the LDAP tab in the outlook connector deployment tool ? When I go to the addressbook in outlook, and perform a find based on the alias field, it does find the user, so somehow outlook should be able to find it rightaway, yes ?
    kind regards,
    Tom.

    Dear All,

Can I use JavaMail without setting up any Mail Server?? If no, can I use the ISP one?? Also, how can I retreive the mailing list from database to JavaMail?? Please advise.
    Thanks in advance.

You dont neend to set up a Mail server , You just have to connect to the desired mail server to send and retreive mails............. You should read the Javamail Api , you will find all the classes and required methods there ,, to retreive and send emails........

  • PocketPC sync through Outlook Connector - what's best???

I've recently purchased a PocketPC to replace my failed Palm. I was already using the Outlook Connector without issue. When I installed the ActiveSync it automatically inserted whatever conduits that were needed to sync to Outlook while in turn seems sync to Oracle automagically through the Outlook Connector. From what I can tell it seems to do a relatively good job out of the box this way (ie: syncing the PocketPC to Outlook, which is forwarding it to Oracle via the Connector for Outlook).
However clearly there is a PocketPC only synchronizer and I do actually see some strange anomilies when syncing (sometimes I get issues with dups, particularly on reoccuring appointments). Also its not clear where my notes are going, though they seem to work and appear to be going into some Oracle store.
The client code is 10.10, but the server is 9i (seems to work fine together though).
So, what is the best bet here? Should I not be syncing through Outlook? If it's fine to sync through Outlook, why does Oracle even supply a PocketPC specific sync? PocketPC would require Outlook by default anyway.
Inquiring minds would like to know. Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
We provide Oracle synchronization conduits for users that are either not using Outlook (e.g. they use the native calendar desktop clients), or do not use the synchronization tools that come with their device. In some cases, the Oracle synchronization tools do a better job of synchronizing calendar information.
As much as possible, Oracle tries to make it flexible for our customers to use the clients and tools they want to use. So if you are an Outlook user, and you use OCFO, then you can continue to use your ActiveSync conduit to do the synchronization.
Since the OCFO architecture is different than the traditional Outlook one, there are sometimes problems with third-party synchronizations. For instance, we know of a problem when modifying recurring meetings in ActiveSync (it can cause the duplicates that you report) that we hope to address in a future release.
If you're having a problem and/or are not sure about your current Outlook-synchronization tool, talk to an Oracle Support representative.
    Hope that helps,

  • Cannot connect to SMTP server using Outlook Connector

    Hi All,
I am trying to connect outlook client to my oracle mail server in OCS. I have succefully installed the Outlook connector but when i try to connect it gives me the following error:
    The SMTP server is unavailable.
When i click on retry it gives me the option to enter the Server name, i type the server name with fully qualified domain name. ( i can ping the server from the client pc from where i am trying to connect). But no luck at all.
However i am able to send receive e-mail from the wb client, no issues at all, which means my SMTP server is up and running. I have also verified that listener_es process is up and running.
Any suggestions or ideas would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dipak.

    Hi Naqi,
You are absolutely correct. I added the client in /etc/hosts file and it all worked well.
Not just connecting the client but also when i telnet on port 25 i dont get the spam error.
ALso, i have seen lots of your input on the forums and has been very helpfull.
    Thankyou so much.
I will be attempting to migrate some of my users via export/import from .pst file. These users have about 9000 mails in their mail box. During the normal migration i had errors and couldnt migrate these users. Let me see how it goes now.

  • Calendar server and address book server login fails with outlook connector

    Hi all,
I have installed Java Communication Suite 5 according to the doc http://blogs.sun.com/factotum/resource/comms5-install-linux.html.
When i deploy the connector i get the pop ups saying "Server:servername:3080
    Error:service not available" also
    "Server:servername:80/uwc"
    Error:service not available"
asking to login to calendar server and address book server.Clicking "OK" allows install.
In outlook i can send and receive mails but not the meeting requests. It gives the error "login to calendar server" when i create a meeting request.
Please let me know what i have to do to get rid of the error. The username and passwd entered is correct.

    Hi,
When i deploy the connector i get the pop ups saying
    "Server:servername:3080
Error:service not available" also Do you get exactly what you say above, or have you substituted in the real server name for "Server:servername:" above?
I would check through the outlook connector deployment configuration to verify that you have inserted valid information into all of the host & port fields - perhaps check the .ini file that is created to see if it has "Server" and "servername" listed.
    "Server:servername:80/uwc"
Error:service not available"You are able to log into UWC via the web-interface and access your calendar/pab and edit/modify/delete calendar & addressbook entries right? The services are all up?
asking to login to calendar server and address book
server.Clicking "OK" allows install. The outlook connector deployment software gives you the option to increase the logging level, try that and see what the logs say - what was it trying to connect to/check which failed.
In outlook i can send and receive mails but not the
meeting requests. It gives the error "login to
calendar server" when i create a meeting request.
Please let me know what i have to do to get rid of
the error. The username and passwd entered is
correct.I suspect this is more of an underlying configuration issue that needs to be sorted out, once that happens you shouldn't have to keep logging in.

Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
              •          Server name: imap.mail.me.com
              •          SSL Required: Yes
              •          Port: 993
              •          Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
              •          Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
              •          Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
              •          SSL Required: Yes
              •          Port: 587
              •          SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
              •          Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
              •          Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.

i want to continue the same product please advice me to get the same, i got the mail from outlook is follow
    Dear Outlook.com Customer,
About a month ago, we let you know that Outlook.com no longer supports new custom domain sign ups. As a current customer, we will continue to support the ability to log in to Outlook.com with your existing custom domain email address, but as of 31 July 2014,
you will no longer be able to add or remove accounts in your domain.
Instead, we recommend that administrators who wish to continue managing email addresses in their domain should consider Office 365 – Microsoft's premium online email service. By migrating to Office 365, you will be able to continue managing your custom domains,
as well as benefit from modern enterprise-class mail, collaboration and communication tools.
The previous email we sent you contained a complimentary 90-day subscription to Office 365 Small Business Premium for 5 users. This is a reminder that you need to redeem this offer before 15 July 2014.
You will still be able to log in to Outlook.com with your custom domain during your Office 365 subscription, even if you choose to cancel your Office 365 subscription.
    How to migrate your account
You can find a step-by-step guide to migrating your account here.
    Yours sincerely,

    Hi,
Yes, as what Roady says, Outlook.com no longer supports new custom domain sign-ups. You can continue to login to Outlook.com with your existing custom domain email addresses. But after July 2014, domain administrators will no longer be able add or remove
    email accounts in your domain.
Please consider to move to Office 365 to get enhanced features and capabilities for modern enterprise-class mail, collaboration and communications. About how to move your custom domain to Office 365, please refer to:
