Outlook Contact Sync Error

We recently upgraded my wife's Blackberry to a Curve 3G 9330.  When we try to sync to Outlook (non-Exchange), we encounter an error with the contacts (address book).  The Desktop Software simply indicates an "unknown error" - not particularly helpful.
We've narrowed it down to a potentially bad contact record on the Blackberry, but cannot find a way to delete it.  The options menu will not come up on the Blackberry for this one record.  We've try to sync the device by overwriting the contacts with new data from Outlook, but still get's the same error message.  I cannot find any information on erasing/deleting the complete contact list on the Blackberry.
Is it just me? Or, is Blackberry's documentation and software error messages completely useless? Also, no way am I paying them $49 to fix a problem that should be considered in their documentation & support - that's a complete rip-off.
I'm giving this forum a try, but if I can't find a way to fix this problem - we're dumping Blackberry and getting her a Windows 7 phone...

Hi,
I had a similar problem of syncing the contact list with my outlook.
Try this, may be it would help:
1) switch off the syncronisation of contacts with your mail id's.
Go to Setup>Email Setting>choose your email account>edit>Syncronization Option>Remove the check from the contacts.
Do this for all your e-mails.
And then try to sync again with the outlook.
Cheers

  • Random Contacts sync errors

We keep encountering Contacts sync errors. We are syncing two Macs/Lion and two iPads. There is no pattern as to where the correct contact entry was created - could by any of the four devices. We don't create on icloud.com, only use that for troubleshooting and manual repair.
I am 90% sure that all of these errors are of the form [change made to device] but [no change made to iCloud.com]. If the dbms on iCloud.com doesn't register the change it will obviously not be propagated.
Repair tip: but only if the "good contact" is on a Mac. Export the contact as a VCF to say desktop (only one works, no multiples). Then drag the "good VCF" onto the Safari/iCloud/Contacts window - slow and careful until you see the + cursor. Drop it there - audit success by watching for "Importing..." in the status bar.
Q1: Is there a way to generate a "differences report", at least pairwise - say Mac Pro vs. iCloud.com? This problem has been happening for at least a month - too long to rely on failing memories as to what changes have been made.
Q2: What about a Contacts report sorted by modification date (mod dates seem to have gone away)?
I've examined all of the Apple iCloud support articles - these are good for initial troubleshooting, but do not apply to this problem.

I am 90% sure I have resolved the cause of these sync errors. It was because our MacBook Pro and Mac Pro both had Address Book/Preferences/General/Default Account set to the local Mac contacts.
I have now changed the Default Account to iCloud. I hope this still works OK when we do not have Internet access (common as we live on our boat in the South Pacific).

  • Outlook Contacts Sync - Partial SOLUTION to error (-50)

Im using Outlook 2003. Was getting the error (-50) while trying to sync contacts to my iPod. I resolved it by:
    - Go to the Outlook Contacts View
    - Go to File -> Folder -> Sharing -> Outlook Address Book
    - Click the check box for "Show this folders as an e-mail Address Book"
    - Apply the settings
You should now be able to sync contacts. However, I could only sync a partial list.
    I have not tried calendars.

This works great... but if you find that the check box is greyed out... try this solution first.
Tools>E-Mail accounts>Add new Directory or Address book> Click on Additional Address Books> Chose Outlook Address book> (Then it will tell you to exit outlook and restart outlook> Then you could right click on contacts > Go To Properties > Click on Outlook Address Book (now these options are no longer grayed out) Put your checkmark in Show this folder as an outlook E-Mail address book. and then Click OK.
This DOES NOT solve Calender sync though.

  • IPhone Calendar; Outlook 2007 Sync Error

I have an iPhone 5 with the 7.1.2 and the newest version of iTunes as well as the newest version of iCloud Control Panel.
Once I create a meeting|appt on my Outlook via computer (Win 7) it syncs to the iPhone calendar. (Good thing)
But if I were to change the day, time, or location from outlook .. it doesn't take effect on the iPhone and no point and time. (Bad thing)
    Thoughts?
    -Thanks in advanced!

    Hi,
For better assisting you on this matter, could you help me with information below:
What was the sync error was?
Is your software up to date, both Windows/Office/iOS?
What is your Outlook account type? IMAP, Exchange or POP3?
Are you using Cache mode or Online mode for you Outlook? When using an OST file, only information stored locally, or cached on your computer, will be available to sync.
Meanwhile, we can try to reset Sync history to see if the issue can be solved:
Back up your data, refer to
    this article for Backup details
    Open iTunes.
From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
    Click the Devices tab.
Click the Reset Sync History button.
If the issue continues and you know all of the data is on the computer:
Reset the Sync History again using the steps above.
Select the device in iTunes and click the Info tab.
Scroll down to the Advanced section, and under "Replace information on this iPhone/iPad/iPod touch" select Contacts or Calendars.
    Click Apply.
If the issue continues and you know all the data is on the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:
Reset the Sync History again using the steps above.
Remove all of the contact and calendar information from Outlook.
Select the device in iTunes and click the Info tab.
Scroll down to the Advanced section, and under "Replace information on this iPhone/iPad/iPod touch" make sure Contacts and Calendars are not selected.
    Click Apply.

  • Outlook client sync error

My iPhone was in sync with Outlook 2003, finally, found the post on the add-ins. After that I had no problems. I upgraded to Outlook 2007 recently. Yesterday I connected my iPhone, it upgraded to the itunes as well as a new iphone file???? I don't remember the file. I now receive "Outlook sync client" error. I looked at the add in page and under "Active Application Add-In" I have the "iTunes Outlook add-in" but I am missing the _"outlook iTunes Sync_ add-in". I have tried uninstalling itunes. It didn't help. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    challenger70,
The latest versions of iTunes do not use the "Outlook iTunes Sync add-in" anymore, and instead use the Outlook Sync Client. So you are not missing anything.
Apple has posted a great article on troubleshooting Outlook sync issues. It's best to start from the top and work your way down. The article can be found here:

    Hope this helps!

  • Outlook contacts sync puts some 1st AND last names in iPhone 1st name

After I initially synched all my Outlook contacts onto my new iPhone, some of the names show up on the iPhone as "lastname firstname" (which is what I want), but some show up as "firstname lastname". The problem with this is that they don't sort correctly. I've looked into the Outlook contact, and, in both cases, they have the correct firstname and lastname fields. In the iPhone contact, the entire name (firstname lastname) is in the iPhone firstname field and the lastname field is blank. I can find no other difference between the correctly synched contact and the incorrectly synched contact.
    Any suggestions??

The sync messed up somehow. Sync does that sometimes.
If you plug in the phone, but don't sync it yet, I believe there is an option somewhere (labeled Advanced) to overwrite the information on the phone with information from your computer. You might try that, for contacts. Explore all the iPhone panels in iTunes.
Alternatively, delete all your contacts on the phone and re-sync.
Caveat: I'm no sync expert and don't use windows.

  • Outlook contact sync

The last time I synced with Outlook, a lot of the same contacts came up multiple times -- around 50+ times each. Seems the only way to delete them is individually. I would like to know the following: 1) is there a way to do multiple deletes and 2) what made this happen. Many thanks for help.

There isn't really a way on your BB to delete them individually.  There are apps that you can download (like Advance OS & LED) where you can export your contacts to an excel spreadsheet, then you can delete the duplicates there, clear out all the contacts on your BB and Outlook, go into Outlook and re-load your contacts file, and if you have sync turned on, then your contacts should pop into your BB.
...and, unfortunately, I'm not really able to shed light on #2 -- only thing I can think of is maybe you turned contact syncing off, then back on again, and then you got duplicates...sorry, good luck!

  • IPhone to Outlook Contacts Sync

Would love to be able to have my iPhone Contacts sync to Outlook contacts, NOT the other way around. [The first time I tried it, it wiped out my iPhone contacts and put the old Outlook ones back in.]
Now, I see some improvement in the updated versions of iTunes, but I simply have no idea what the WARNING Screen is trying to tell me -- something about more than 5% of the contacts will be changed, etc, etc...CHANGED WHERE? My iPhone or my Outlook?
It would be so much easier if we had a choice to sync Outlook to iPhone or iPhone to Outlook without wiping either database. Is that too difficult to do?
    Anyone have a solution? Thanks!

The sync process for contacts with the supported application on your computer is a bi-directional or true sync process.
If the supported application on your computer has contact info and your iPhone doesn't, the contact info with the supported application on your computer will be transferred to your iPhone with the first sync and be kept synchronized afterwards with following syncs.
If the supported application on your computer does not include any contact info and your iPhone does, your iPhone will be erased of all contacts with the first sync.
If the supported application on your computer includes contact info and you have manually added contacts to your iPhone, you should be provided a merge prompt with the first sync, which should be selected. After the initial sync and merge, contacts will be kept synchronized with following syncs.
iTunes includes an option to replace contacts on your iPhone with the contacts in the supported application on your computer. After doing this, contacts will be kept synchronized with following syncs. There is no option to replace contacts in the supported application on your computer with your iPhone contacts.

  • I found a temp solution for outlook contact sync

I along with many 5G ipod users are unable to get itunes to sync their microsoft outlook contacts. I found a way to transfer all your contacts fairly quickly by exporting them as vtf contact cards.
What you do, is select all the contacts in outlook you wish to export using shift or control clicks, right click on one, then under "send full contact", click on "In Internet Format (vCard)"
This will open up a separate window that will send all those contacts as attachments in an email. All you need to do is right click on one of the attachments, and choose select all, then right click and choose copy. You can then just paste the files into your contacts folder when your ipod is enabled for disk use.
I know this far from a permanent solution, but until apple can get it's act together and make it properly sync contacts, this will work for me.
Keep in mind I did this with office 2007 beta. It may be slightly different for other versions, so you may have to play around with it a little.
    I hope this helps!

At the risk of sounding sarcastic, a good solution is to use a room where you're not going to get the glare.  Something like editing photographs really needs a location where you can properly see and work with colours and contrasts.  Your problem is not your Mac, it's your location!

  • Outlook contact sync changes email properties!!! How to stop that?

    Hi,
when you modify or add a new contact on the iPhone, once you synch it with Outlook (2007 in my case), all iPhone contact emails properties are changed in outlook.
I have set Outlook to default to send email in HTML, not in RTF:
    Tools->Options->Mail Format->Internet Format-> Convert to HTML Format
This means it won't send RTF mails at all, first converting them to HTML messages.
Outlook "offers" a way to override this setting directly in the contact form.
If you open a contact in Outlook "Contacts" view, then double-click its email address. You get a dialog box called "E-mail Properties".
By default, it will use "Let Outlook decide the best sending format" as the "internet format" mode. This comes from the default we have set above.
Problem is that each contact modified in the iPhone resets this "Internet format" for that particular contact to "Send using Outlook Rich Text Format".
This is ways stupid since when you send a formatted email to someone who doesn't have Outlook, then (s)he gets a plain text email and an attached "winmail.dat" file that is binary and containing the formatting and attachments, built-in pictures, etc...
This file is recognized only by Outlook and can't be read if you don't have outlook or a utility to decode those files.
Can Apple fix this and keep the "Internet format" settings as it is in Outlook?
And if you create a new contact on the iPhone, then, when synching, use Outlook's default Internet format?
Is there a workaround to this annoying problem?
I know that Outlook is tricky, not the iPhone or iTunes, but we have to live with it.
    Thanks for any help
    Steve

  • IPhone/Outlook Contacts sync acting strangely

Hi everyone. I have something weird happening in Outlook that wasn't happening before getting a new iPhone (my first iPhone ever). I had my Outlook Contacts setup so that when I create a new contact (in Outlook) and I enter the contacts name the "file as" field shows lastname, firstname. This worked fine until I began using my iPhone. Now when I create a new contact in Outlook the "file as" field shows firstname, lastname instead of lastname, firstname even though it is setup correctly in Outlook properties. Has anyone seen this before?

SOLVED - I went into his Contacts Options (Tools | Options | Contact Options) and simply changed the Default Full Name Order from Last Frist to First (Middle) Last and that did the trick!
