Outlook crashing intermittently

I am using Exchange 2007 and Outlook 2010 clients. I had an issue where Outlook crashed when sending internal emails intermittently. I rebuilt the ost files for users who were experiencing the problem more than others which resolved the issue for most
users, however the issue remains when one user tries to email just one other user. Both osts have been rebuilt, fresh Outlook profiles, etc, various other client side checks. All PCs have latest patches. I was going to try moving one of the mailboxes to a
different database to see if this resolved the issue but wanted to explore other possible local reasons why this may occur. Or if there is anything else at server level that would cause this that would be helpful to know.
Thanks.

1. Is Outlook configured with any other accounts (POP or IMAP to other email systems)?
2. You mentioned .OST files. What about .PST files? In previous versions of OUtllok, very large .PST could cause crashes. I think 2010 is pretty robust though in that respect.
3. I suppose there is an antivirus installed on the computers? Some have Outlook plugins - that could be a casue.
Otherwise, it looks like you've tried quite a few things there.
One thing I might try is to use Exchange Online mode (not cached mode). For just a group of users, not necessarily the entire user base.  Does the problem persist then?
I would tend to think that Exchange would not cause Outlook to crash but... you mentioned Outlook 2010 has alll the latest patches (SP2 also?). What about Exchange 2007? Latest version is Exchange 2007 SP3 rollup 14.
Please mark as helpful if you find my contribution useful or as an answer if it does answer your question. That will encourage me - and others - to take time out to help you.

  • IMac 24" 3.06Ghz crashes intermittently, causes endless restarts

    Hi All,
I have a 24-inch, 3.06 Ghz Intel iMac that has been crashing intermittently for months now. The crashes seem to happen at mostly random times, but occur more frequently during processor-intensive tasks. Specifically, the crashes almost always happen when I'm playing a game (World of Warcraft), doing a system update thatbrequires a restart or doing more than one thing at a time in iTunes (syncing my iPad, listening to music and downloading multiple podcasts).
When the crashes happen, everything freezes up and I get the spinning beach ball. No applications are responsive and I'm unable to bring up the Force Quit window. At this point, I have no choice but to do a hard shutdown (by holding the power button). For the next several minutes after the shutdown, starting up the computer causes a series of endless restarts on a blank black screen. The only way to get the computer to start up normally again is to leave it off for a few minutes. Then it starts up without a problem.
I'm stumped. Thank you all for any help you can provide.
    - Mike

The CPU is fine. The HDD is pretty warm - 120F would be more comfortable (mine is 123F with nothing much going on), but the fan is trying to keep it down so the system is doing what it should.
If your HD stays that hot constantly, rather than only when being very active (reindexing Spotlight, running a backup, or other continuous activity) then I'd start to worry some. Generally HDs don't like going over 130F.

  • Outlook-crashed

    Dear Concern,
I have been using Outlook 2010 since July 2014.
Certainly last Saturday my outlook crashed. I had no back up. All my important official mails lost.
I am in huge problem. But my HP system is all fine.
Please assist in recovering back the lost emails.
    Very urgent.
    [Deleted customer's private information]

    Hi,
First of all, I want to know what type of account you were using before the crash. If it's a POP account, the emails should be stored in a .pst file, find that .pst file and you should be able to recover the emails.
If you were using an Exchange, IMAP or an Exchange ActiveSync account, your emails should be still available on the server, logon the OWA/webmail to check the emails.
Anyway, if the issue is that you stored emails in a .pst file but it can't be opened, probably it has been damaged. I suggest you run Scanpst.exe to scan and repair the .pst file. The location of Scanpst.exe is in either of the two paths:
    Outlook 2010 32-bit on Windows 64-bit
    %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Microsoft Office\Office14\scanpst.exe
    Outlook 2010:
    %programfiles%\Microsoft Office\Office14\scanpst.exe
More information about Scanpst.exe can be found in this kb below:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/272227/
I hope the information is helpful.

    Hi,
Please perform a clean boot and check whether this crash issue persists, if no, we may suspect some background programs are interfering with Outlook:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
We can also find useful information to troubleshoot this issue from Event Logs:
Press Win + R, type "eventvwr" in the blank box, press Enter.
Go to Windows Logs -> Application, find if there is any error about the Outlook crash and you may post the logs here in the forum as well.
If neither of the steps is helpful, please let me know the detailed steps to reproduce this issue on your side, what do you mean by "reassign tasks"?

  • Macbook Pro crashes intermittently and freeze!!!

I bought my macbook pro 07 august
my macbook pro crashes intermittently, sometimes a a couple of minutes or a few hours. when it crashes, everything freeze and have to press the power button in order to turn it off. tried changing RAM, but it will crash.
Already sent to Apple service centre twice!!!! Run EVERY HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE TEST! The technician said my macbook pro is FINE!?
    what's going on?
    I'M REALLY DISAPPOINTED!!!

    Suggest you try the following
    1. Insert Leopard Install DVD
    2. Shut down
    3. Reboot holding down the "C" on your keyboard
    4. Click on "English" (assuming that's your language on the computer)
    5. Find "Dick Utility" on the drop down menu at the top of the screen
    6. Select your drive
    7. Run "Repair Disk" (permission repair can be run from your hard drive without booting to the DVD)
    8. Chances are you're crashing because of an incorrect file/folder count (miss-matched). Disk Utility (from the DVD) will repair this. Continuous freeze-ups are probably from this incorrect count. Unless it's repaired, you'll keep crashing. This repair will keep you running until you figure out the cause. I have a similar problem with sleep/wake. At least this keeps me running for a fair amount of time. I've been trying to figure out the cause (unsuccessfully, as yet).

  • Outlook crashes on startup

    HI,
Today i am having a problem with my outlook , when i was trying to open MS outlook it get crashed and error will prompted again and again when i starts MS outlook 2012 . I tried running MS outlook in safe mode and also remove unnecessary add-ins. But this
couldn't work. help me out of this situation !!

You can resolve this error by performing these steps:
Try to open Outlook in safe mode. For opening Ms Outlook in safe mode enter ‘outlook /safe’ in windows Run option [Note: Before opening outlook in safe mode close outlook from the current mode]
Now if your outlook opens in safe mode properly without showing error then the problem might be due to add-ins installed in outlook.
Disable the add-ins from Ms Outlook
Click on Tools menu and select Trust Center then click on Add-ins
Select COM Add-ins in manage drop down list then click GO
Uncheck all Add-ins ,then click OK
Now try to open Outlook by checking add-ins one by one until issue occurs.
You will then get to know which add in causing error and then remove it.

Previously I have managed to get Outlook back (and all my precious contacts)by doing a system restore,(ie. About 8 Times) but this time even that doesn't work.

  • Outlook crashes when replying to email sent from Mail

Two of my staff are reporting that when they send email to people using Outlook, the recipient's outlook crashes when they try to reply.
Has anyone experienced this? i've checked smtp servers, corrupt fonts etc.
it seems to happen inconsistantly (i use outlook myself and have no problems).

Frank thanks for bringing this post back up. I thought for sure it would go unnoticed. It seems to me that there is currently nothing the Geniuses can do about it - and because they claim it's an Android issue I doubt this will be addressed in the next iOS. Unless Android sends an update to their users fixing the problem - if it is an Android problem after all - then it looks like we are left to finding a solution on our own. Like I said previously, the only workaround I found is by "forwarding" the email and then manually entering the sender's address.

  • Outlook crashes.

    Hi,
i have a WinSrv 2008 r2. It has office installed, and users work through rdp. From the ~20 users i have, on 19 everything works fine while on 1 outlook crashes. So basically it's the same installation which is problematic only for 1 account.
    This is what i get:
    Problem signature:
      Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
      Application Name: OUTLOOK.EXE
      Application Version: 14.0.7113.5000

I've read around and seen that i'm not the first one having trouble with ntdll.dll, but none of the solutions i found helped. I disabled all add-ons, tried to run outlook in safe mode, ran scanpst on all data files, even made new data files. I tried to make
a new account, but as soon as it comes to adding an e-mail adress, outlook crashes. The only way i suceeded starting outlook is to be very fast after start and press "work offline". As soon as i want to update send/recieve, crash...
    Greetings,
    Raed Abu-Haija.

    Hi,
The error related to ntdll.dll may occur due to lots of reasons. Try below steps to troubleshoot the issue:
Try to create a new Outlook profile in Control Panel: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/create-an-outlook-profile-HA102749460.aspx
Check with another Windows user profile and see if it works. Sometimes, a corrupt Windows user profile might cause the issue.
Try to do a Windows clean-boot and try again to see if this issue is caused by application or service interferences:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135/en-us
Have you ever tried to repair or reinstall your Office installation? Sometimes, the issue is not caused by a configuration setting but by an installation error.

    Hope this helps.

    Hello,
Thanks for providing the details. Since you have stated that this happens when you do a quick reply (Quicker Reply which is a new feature in Outlook 2013), the Quicker Reply or the Reading Pane could be corrupted.
This could be caused by different reasons. First, please try to run Outlook with
/cleanview switch. Please note that this will restore default views. All custom views that you created are lost.
If issue presists, please try to load Outlook in safe mode,
this will disable all the add-ins and macros, use the default form: Press Win + R and type "outlook.exe /safe" in the blank box, then press Enter.
If Outlook works well in safe mode, then issue might be caused by some add-ins.
Hope this helps on your issue, if issue still occurs , I would suggest you considering repair your Office from Control Panel:
