Outlook Exchange Portlet

Hi,
We've been trying unsuccessfully for a few days now to get a portlet to connect to our Exchange 5.5 server. Our basic requirement is to have a portlet within our Oracle Portal that can display mailbox statistics (such as the number of unread messages) and that allows the user to 'drill-down' into the Outlook client and access their Inbox and Calendar etc.
We were sent a small portlet from an Oracle consultant but have had no joy in getting it to connect to Exchange.
Would really appreciate any ideas or comments anyone can offer. Surely others have tried something like this before, and surely it cant be too difficult?!

Hi,
Have a look at the Exchange portlets provided by Oracle: http://portalstudio.oracle.com/pls/ops/docs/FOLDER/COMMUNITY/PDK/SAMPLES/WEBPORTLETS/V2/EXCHANGEPORTLET/EXCHANGE55.ZIP. There's also a version for release 1 on PortalStudio.
It doesn't allow you to drill down into the Outlook client, but instead uses Outlook Web Access to "drill down". I've installed the Exchange 2000 portlets and they work great. You can view your inbox, calendar and contacts as portlets and it's fairly easy to use the supplied code to create your own portlets e.g. for displaying tasks or notes.
If you absolutely need to "drill down" into the Outlook client, you need to run your Portal page as an Outlook Today page (inside Outlook). Look at msdn.microsoft.com for information on how to make your own Outlook Today page.

Hi,
I was setting the exchange portlet, but the machine residing IIS and the outlook is in a cluster how can I configure the portlet in the cluster?, is there any special instruction to setting the portlet?, I have to do the same twice in each machine or this is not supported?

I have not tested Microsoft exchange portlets in a cluster environment. But I feel these portlets should work fine in a cluster environment too.
A few questions though,
1. "Outlook is in a cluster", can you please elaborate on this. As the there is no dependency on Outlook for the portlets to work.
2. Can you let me know details of Cluster environment and the version of the Windows/ IIS and Exchange server that you are using.
Answer to the above questions will allow me to answer with more specifics.
But here are a few points for setting up Microsoft portlets in a cluster environment:-
1. Once you set up the Replication and Clustering in IIS, then you will be pointing to one IIS machine where the .asps are hosted. And the failover will be taken care by the clustering environment, you will not have to do any additional settings.
2. You need to keep in mind that ASP sessions do not fail over to other nodes in Microsoft Clustering. This means that clients will need to reestablish the connection if a failover occurs on the server.
Please get back if you face any issues.

When I login to Outlook Exchange for office email not all emails display. I use Safari on a home Mac. My PC at work shows all emails in the inbox

This problem started a couple of months ago. I only receive about 25% of my inbox when I login remotely to the webmail exchange account. My inbox on my office PC is fine but the emails do not display in my inbox when I login to the webmail exchange account.
THis happens on other Mac computers, not just my personal computer at home. It's the same thing when I login from my gym

Expected behavior of the Exchange portlets in release 2

I've installed the Exchange portlets in release 2 successfully. Everything works - Inbox, Calendar, Contact list. However when you update the portlet with required information i.e. Inbox user name, server, # of message rows, the portlet displays the view, but once you go to a different page and then decide to return to the page with the Exchange portlets, you need to enter that very same information again. Is this the way it is suppose to work???
Please share your experiences.

This may be a pain for you, but could you please walk me through the steps that you took to get the exchange portlets working? We are trying to install the exchange5.5 portlets. We are currently using Portal release 9.2.1.2.14 (i think that's it - latest release) and have upgraded to 9.0.2.4 via the December PDK we downloaded. We have also made the appropriate setup to the IIS/Exchange server and can view the test.asp pages that were provided. Do you need to deploy an .ear file on OC4J for the exchange5.5 portlets like you do for the exchange2000 portlets? Any help would be appreciated and we have read the documentation included with the Dec. pdk.zip release to no avail. Thank you.

I am having much trouble with the new reminders in IOS7 and how it interacts with Outlook Exchange. Many features lost in the new version.

When I downloaded IOS7, I found that the reminders/task app and how it interacts with Outlook Exchange is much more difficult to use. Some of the issues that I am having are...
1. Trying to edit my task on my phone is not possible, if the notes are lengthy. When you click on the text to edit data near the top, it will scroll to the bottom and not allow you to edit the text because you cant see it.
2. Now all of my task are in one long list. I can not move from day to day like we could in previous version IOS6
3. When I do edit a short task reminder and click done, it crashes and completly goes away. It does save the edit though
4. You can only add task at the bottom of each days reminders. This is very inconvient and much more difficult than IOS6
5. There is a major delay or latency when interacting inside of reminders in this version. Much more than IOS6. It is very unstable and quirky.
I have never seen Apple take a step back with a product until now. I am a huge Apple fan and always will be, so I am hoping they make enhancements to fix these issue. It is a big time prodcutivity killer.

Some power supplies or designed so that if there is a short or overload they shut them selfs off and some will not turn back on. Some have a relay that will click back on and work, some you have to cycle the power switch. Those that won't come back on will have to be replaced. I'm not saying that yours is that type as I have no way of telling. But if you have a friend who will loan you a good power supply you might try it. As someone else said just turning off the power will not darn all the power from some motherboards. To test this turn off your power supply than turn on the computer with the start botton. Mine will flash the lights and fans will start to spin than die. So every time you turn off computer to work on it. After turning off PSU hit the start botton to drian any power left in it before working on it. Also do this after unplugging it just to make sure.

Afterf vs 6 upgrade. my outlook exchange site loads, but can't maneuver...when I click on something it locks up showing an error with java...can't read all as it locks

its the web page version of outlook exchange. there may also be a couple of other sites..after it loads, can't click on anything..no response....checked for latest version of java...and it verified I have latest.

Looks like all I needed to do was ask the question and I would answer it.
It is definitely the outlook 2013 calendar item that had the new status. Even though I changed the item to a valid status, I needed to completely remove the item and add it back in with a valid legacy status from the start.

the settings are gone, i guess. But even worse, I cannot get the iPad2 to play Full HD thru the Apple digital AV adaptor using apps that support (and advertise this), like AVPlayer HD. This definiteley used to work before one of the last iOS upgrades. (I am now at 5.1.1).

How can I display my MS Outlook/Exchange 2010 Calendar events on my web application's calendar?

I'm building a web (client) application (built in html/JavaScript/jQuery) that has a built-in calendar. I would like to pull in my Outlook/Exchange Calendar events
and display them in my web application's calendar. What is the best way to do that from a JavaScript/jQuery environment? I've been searching all over for plugins or examples of how to talk to Exchange/Outlook and retrieve Calendar events but I haven't found
a solution yet. We are currently using MS Office/Outlook/Exchange 2010. I don't need to modify the calendar events, just read them. (Note that I can't use an OWA Web Parts link
to display the calendar in an iframe; I need to have access to the actual event data so I can include other UI elements that I need for my application.) Thanks

iOS 7 Calendar does not show appointments imported as VCS files in Microsoft Outlook / Exchange in Windows 7. I discovered this when downloading itinerary.vcs files from Delta to mark flights in my calendar. The work around I found is as follows:
Open the VCS file, this will create a Calendar entry in your Outlook,
Open the created Outlook Calendar entry, go to File -> Save As and then select to save as ICS file.
Delete original VCS-created appointment in your calendar to avoid multiple calendar.
Open the re-saved ICS file.
Appointment will now correctly synchronize with your iPhone iOS 7 calendar.
If anyone has better alternatives to this process, please help out. Hopefully, Apple will fix this with the next iOS update.

Syncing an outlook exchange and a regular outlook calendar to IPod Touch

I have a personal outlook calendar on my home machine and have had no problems syncing it with the IPod Touch.
However, when I added the outlook exchange calendar I have from work onto that outlook program (office 2010) and tried to sync with the IPod Touch, it only transfers appointments from the office outlook exchange calendar. Nothing from the regular personal outlook calendar shows up any more on the IPod Touch. Any suggestions so I can get all the information from both calendars onto teh IPod Touch?

Assuming you have a PC ,you can only sync one calender at a time. From the Usrs Guide:

Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010 on a PC. (On a Mac, you can sync calendars with multiple
applications. On a PC, you can sync calendars with only one application at a time.)

Email problem - Microsoft Outlook exchange

I was trying to sync my email, which is provided by Microsoft Outlook Exchange on the website icex.ic.ac.uk with my BB. However, I was having issues.
Interestingly, when I first set up my BB this email worked, at that stage I entered my email details but I did not setup an account in email setup. Then when I chose to setup an account one day, and then within the account setup all my emails it stopped working! Now I cannot find a way of accessing my emails without having an account, so is there a way of going back to the old setup...?

It sounds as if you created BIS account credentials -- your BIS account already existed (hosted and controlled by your carrier) and, when only accessing from the BB, credentials are not needed as authentication occurs via PIN. But, to access your BIS account from a PC/browser, credentials are needed as there's no other way to authenticate you to the account. Once you create those BIS credentials, you must use them both from a PC/browser as well as from the device -- but the device should have a tickbox to check that will let it remember your credentials.
If you don't have it, to get to your BIS account via PC/Browser (using those credentials you created), look here:

Managing your BIS account from the PC/browser or from the BB is the same thing...it's just two interfaces to the same account. Once you create credentials, you must then forever use them. And credentials are required to access from a PC/browser. Personally, I hardly ever use the device interface to BIS...I much prefer the larger screen, keyboard, etc. of my PC to manage my BIS conduits.
If you want to remove the credentials, you'll need to contact your carrier to completely reset your BIS account back to an initial state.

Exchange Portlet - Session Cookies - Collapsing Portlets

I am having trouble with the exchange portlet collapsing when refreshed.
I have been tracing through the code and narrowed it down to a missing cookie in the PortletRenderRequest object.
The process method in ExchangeProvider creates a new ApplicationLogin object using the PortletRenderRequest object.
When the ApplicationLogin object is created it scans the cookie list in the request object for the exchangecookie which it then uses to populate the login details and sets the logged-in flag to true, if it can't find the cookie it assumes the caller is not logged in and sets the logged-in flag to false.
The first time the ExchangeProvider.process method is called there are two cookies in the list (an exchangecookie and a JServSessionIdroot cookie) which is fine because it sets up the users details as expected, the second time it gets called (when you refresh the page) the exchangecookie has disappeared from the request object, so it leaves the ApplicationLogin object in the logged-in = false state, which inturn means the page does not get rendered.
Does anyone know when the exchangecookie gets created and when it gets passed around? This would help in tracking down the error, or better still does anyone know how to fix this problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. There is a known problem in Oracle Financials and Application Server with cookies and IE, but this problem occurs in IE and NS so it does not appear to be browser dependent.

If I comment out caching and set login to "always" the portlets take 2-5 minutes to render, which is not acceptable for deployment.
Can anybody fix the JPDK or the portlets?

How can I get my outlook exchange calendar to sync with icloud

Hello, I am trying to sync my outlook exchange calendar to icloud with my wife's calendar in ical from her Mac. Thus far I have been unable to get my Outlook calendar in icloud. Also having trouble getting my wifes ical from the Mac onto her iphone? I'm pretty computer savvy but this one is stumping me. I am trying to do it with out a third party calendar app, but I am open to suggestions so long as my exchange calendar for work will sync seamlessly.

You can go into the settings, iCloud and enable calendar syncing on both devices.

Outlook/Exchange - Free/Busy time is not available while scheduling

According to your description, I know that the OOF cannot be setup and cannot see Free/Busy information in Outlook 2013.
How is the impact, only one user or all users have this issue on Outlook client? How about in OWA?
As Martin mentioned, both of F/B and OOF are related to EWS. If you have the same issue on OWA, I'm afraid this issue related to Exchange Server side. Please try to verify the EWS setting. Also try to re-build EWS Virtural Directory for testing.
If this issue only occur on Outlook client, I suggest run Outlook under safe mode or re-create profile. I also suggest ask Outlook Forum for help, so that you can get more professional suggestions.
