Outlook Express 5.0.6 & Tiger

Hello:
I asked this question as part of a previous post.
We have been using OE for all our e-mails and have quite a large file stored in seperate folders in our seperate OE profiles. If we switch to Tiger, would we be able to have access to our OE e-mails & files and if so, how ??
Thank you.

Hi SteveH
Thunderbird only supports imported mail from Netscape and Eudora, although you could with a lot of effort use intervening mail box translation programs to convert OE mail boxes into a form that Thunderbird will recognise.
Entourage is Outlook Express for OSX with a lot more bells & whistles. I personally think this is the way you should go as it will be more familiar to you and it will preserve yours and your wives identities.
Apple Mail is Apple’s own e-mail application available in OSX. It works just the same as OE if not better. I prefer Apple Mail, although I do use as many e-mail applications as I can for their different functionalities. One of the things I like about Apple Mail is that it stores each mail message as a separate file, unlike OE and Entourage which stores all mail in a single mail database file. This file, unless you are careful, can soon bloat into a huge size and become easily damaged/corrupted with the risk of you losing all your e-mails, address books and account settings – not good!
One other thing and again to emphasise why I use more than one mail application, is that all of the applications mentioned have their strengths and weaknesses. You simply have to decide which one of a long list gives you the functionality you want.
Hope this helps

  • Importing eMail from Outlook Express into OS X Tiger mail

Am in the process of installing OS X Tiger on a G4 eMac for my wife, who is currently using Outlook Express on an older G3 iMac running OS 9.2.
I would like to be able to import her existing Mail Boxes from OE on the old iMac to Mail on the eMac.
Can anyone indicate which files must be transferred from the iMac to the eMac in order for me to import them into Mail ?
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • From Tiger to Leopard: outlook express "lost"

I just upgraded from Tiger to Leopard. When I click on Outlook Express Mail, it won't work.
Are all my thousands of old emails lost forever?
    Thanks.

    Welcome to *Apple Discussions*!
Outlook Express Mail is not a Mac application. Therefore:
    a. You were using Outlook Web Access (OWA) through the web, in which case the alias is broken
    b. You had an alias to a virtual application running within Windows. You may need to check your application such as Parallales, Microsoft Virtual PC, or VMWare Fusion

  • Switching from Windows XP to Tiger (Outlook Express problems)

    http://www.apple.com/getamac/files.html
That page claims that moving emails would be easy: "Email? You can transfer all your years’ worth of Microsoft Outlook email messages over to your Mac with just a few steps.".
However, I doesn't tell you how actually do to it. I found that the only method to move emails from Outlook Express (which is what most people use) to a Mac to by dragging and dropping them into a folder and then copy the folder to the Mac. Don't know how to import the messages into Apple Mail.
Outlook Express cannot export otherwise except to Outlook and Exchange (but it won't mention where it put the exported mails for some reason).
Outlook Exporess' address book can be exported into a comma-delimited text file but Apple Address Book claims the file is not a comma-delimited text file after all (I looked at it, it is).
What's the easy method to move Outlook Express mails and address book to Mac OS X?

Since you have access to a .Mac trial account (good for 60 days) with your new Mac, a .Mac type account is really an IMAP account and behaves in the same way.
A .Mac type account is the default selection when creating an account with Mail but you can create/access a .Mac account as an IMAP or POP account with Mail and as an IMAP or POP account with another email client on your Mac or with another email client such as OE on your Windows PC.
What the link briefly refers to is creating/accessing your .Mac account as an IMAP account with Outlook or you can do the same with OE.
You can transfer messages from your existing account's Inbox and Sent mailboxes to your .Mac account's Inbox and Sent mailboxes which are stored on the server by default.
When launching Mail on your Mac, your .Mac account's Inbox and Sent mailbox will be synchronized with the server and these transferred messages will be available.
Create a new mailbox or mailboxes - one for the account's Inbox mailbox and one for the account's Sent mailbox. At the menu bar go to Mailbox and select New Mailbox. Select "On My Mac" for the mailbox location (which is stored locally on the hard drive), enter a name for the mailbox and select OK.
Transfer the messages from the account's Inbox and Sent mailboxes to the appropriate user created "On My Mac" location mailboxes. This process stores the transferred messages locally on the hard drive and removes the messages from the server at the same time.
Does OE support exporting address book contacts in vCard format and if not, how about forwarding selected contacts or all contacts as a separate vCard file for each attached to a message as does Outlook?
If no to both and the Address Book does not recognize the exported file as being comma-delimited, try using Address Book Importer.

  • Mac OS 10.4 Mail takes longer to receive than on Outlook Express 5

I receive email via Outlook Express 5.0.6 within an hour (but hate to use it). It can take Mac OS 10.4.8 Mail up to 24 hrs longer. Mail Preferences are set to: Check for new mail:” Every 30 min.” Under Accounts>Advanced: “Enable This Account” and “Include when automatically when checking for new mail” are both checked. The ISP is Comcast. What is the problem?

We have the same problem. The user rights under Leopard are not interpreted correctly while the Tiger clients show the correct entries. I´ve posted another topic to that thing...

  • Transfer Outlook Express Address Book & emails from old iMac 333 to iMac G5

Trying to import my old address book and a collection of emails from Outlook Express 5.0.6 to Mail2.0.2. I've tried everything that Outlook requires and no luck yet. I am reluctant to reload all those names, addresses, etc. into my new iMac G5. Also, I have many emails from my old iMac 333 and need them for my new G5 mail files. Can I read them into Mail 2.0.2 ?
    Thanks for any advice.

I was having no success at all when I was trying to import mail data from Outlook Express to Mail on the same office G4 Tower where I just upgraded to Tiger, where all the Apple docu says it is possible...
    Then I realised,
    1. When in X, when importing data from OE, Classic has to be booted, my only and originally OS 9 (installed X on another partition) is to "heavily loaded" with a lot of 3rd party extensions etc, it never loaded completely
Solution: Install another clean and lean copy of OS 9 somewhere else, then designate this as your Classic, and make sure you only have one copy of OE and one set of your Identities etc in the Document folder
    2. The easier way out is if you have Office X or Office 2004, use Entourage to import everything from OE, then use Mail to import from Entourage.
    Cheers

  • Email Set-up...something better than Outlook Express 4.5?

    Happy New Year ~
I'm trying to set up about 3 email accounts on an OLD iBook Blueberry running OS 8.6. It has Outlook Express 4.5 installed on it, and though it did "take" one of the email addresses yesterday (it was able to download mail from the server, but I didn't test sending any mail out), it hasn't been able to send/receive at all today. I'm not real familiar with Outlook, so don't know if I'm missing something. I tried checking two boxes that said things like: "Requires secure SSL/POP" because I do have passwords that are involved in accessing the server account, but still nothing.
The computer did connect to the internet via ethernet and DSL, though, so that's not the problem.
Anyway -- after all this, I'm wondering if there's any simpler email program I can maybe try downloading and using? Or any other suggestions?
(I'm just spoiled, having been graced with an iBookG4 less than a year ago - my first Mac - and loving Panther and OS X..I'd love to upgrade to Tiger as soon as my budget allows)
Thanks for any and all insight.

    Hi aToast...
Yikes! ...your comment brings back a lot of memories - good and bad
For some reason I do remember that you shouldn't have to check off the 'Requires Secure SSL/POP'. Aside from that just make sure you have both your incoming/outgoing 'mail server' and of course your password typed correctly.
There are other programs you could try (I remember trying others but Outlook was always the best for me) ...take a look under the 'classic apps' on the Pure-Mac site for example - http://pure-mac.com/email.html
If you could get up to os 9.2.2 then try the Mozilla Suite - that would be my pick for best classic browser and email combo.

  • Transfer mail from Outlook express 6 on Windows XP to Mail on iMac

I want to transfer mail from Outlook express 6 running under Windows XP to Mail on a Macbook Pro running Tiger.
I have a network set up and can access the outlook identities, but neither Entourage nor Mail will recognise the entities when I try to use the import function. I suppose they are looking for outlook express 5 which runs on Mac OS 9.
Is there a way to do this. I would think that if Apple is keen for people to move over to Mac, this would be an area which will be a concern to a lot of people.
    Thanks

  • Export Phone Contacts from Outlook Express to Noki...

I exported the phone contacts using the Nokia Suite to Outlook Express. But how do I import it back to my phone from Outlook Express ?
    Thanks

If Outlook Express provides for exporting contacts in vCard format, you can send all contacts as vCard attachments to a message sent to an email account you access with the Mail.app. Save the vCard attachments from the message to a created folder on the Desktop and then use the Address Book import feature selecting vCards.
If OE does not provide for exporting contacts in vCard format, it should provide for exporting contacts as a tab-delimited text file.
The Tiger Address Book includes a Text File import selection/option.

  • Unable to send out emails via outlook express since 06/29/2010

Task '[email protected]" - Sending' reported error (0x80042109) : 'Outlook is unable to connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'        This is a copy/paste of error message from Office Outlook  2003
Our household has been unable to "send" outgoing emails since 06/29/2010.  This includes a wireless laptop and a PC. We both lost the ability to send emails same day.  We changed NOTHING and did not share emails with each other that would have corrupted our system. During this time I have had 2 Verizon techs dance around in the PC doing all the same things I did as well as what  the automated assistant did.  The last tech said the Outlook Express 6.0 was corrupted, and to unistall it and then reinstall;  this time 2 hours later, I think he just gave up).  That did not work either.  I tried using the Outlook Office and still got an error message for outging. Everything is set up as it was when it was working until 06/29/2010.  I was told that there was a new server being installed and that things wold be working by 07/02/2010... I have tried taking down the firewall, turning off virus protection (McAfee), changing from outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net to just outgoing.verizon.net, checking boxes, unchecked boxes. SMPT is set to 587.  We get incoming fine.  I hate using the "Verizon email site" as too much monkey motion to get to mail, but that's what we have been doing.  I even tried setting up a GMail account, again got mail still could not send.  Any ideas?

Thank you for your response!  I even tried sending an email via dos prompt  with Telnet, got past "HELO", but when trying to get a  "RCPT TO"  (using outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net)  I got an "authorization required" response and then was dropped.  I have been passed around without a solution. I am about ready to change ISP, but really hate to as most of the time (years now) this has been a decent ISP. If Verizon is having a problem just say so, I can handle it, honesty would be nice, refreshing and not wasting so much of my time as well as the techs!

  • Downloads to Outlook Express mail from Google now (since Mozilla update) incomplete. ¿A Mozilla problem?

For years, download to Outlook Express of mail in three Gmail accounts worked fine.
New problem, not all of the mail at Google gets to Outlook, and what's missing disappears.
This problem appeared after recent Firefox update. Is this a possible cause?
I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium

It an Outlook Express thing Firefox has nothing to do with it. But after saying that, if you view your mail with a browser and then open Outlook Express, it will not see it as new mail and leave it on the server.
Also OE is really limited you should use Thunderbird mail
    http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/
    or something else.

  • How to use ActiveX of outlook express to realize the function of sending email using labview?

    thanks!

I didn't manage to find a public ActiveX interface for Outlook Express, but I did find one for Outlook, and a few quick tweaks managed to get a message in the outbox. For some reason it wasn't sent (maybe I didn't have a user set up properly), but you can try playing with it to see.
Another option would be to use the built in SMTP VIs (unless you need POP3).
Try to take over the world!

  • Windows Vista and Outlook Express 2003 on a Satellite A100-014

Does anyone have the same problem as i am experiencing?
When i try to reply to an email with outlook express on my computer with windows vista home, if the email is originally an html formatted message, hitting the reply button and starting to type up the message will just close down the application.

Hello there! thanks for the reply. of course, i made a mistake, i meant to ask about MICROSOFT OUTLOOK in fact, not outlook express. It sometimes happens that when i hit the reply button, it opens up an error message, that prompts me to the VISTA procedure for resolving mistakes, which often doesn't work. But once it did point me finally to a window telling me that there is no upgrading for that error for MS Outlook for windows vista.
Do you have any advice? you think i should remove and then re-install MS outlook?
    THanks agaiN!

  • Hi, I have an iphone 3GS from HK. After upgrading to 4.3.3 from 4.3.2 as prompted by itunes on May 10, 2011 my entire contact in my iphone was wiped out! When I checked my backup file in Outlook Express it was also wiped out!!! What can I do now?

Hi, I have an iphone 3GS purchased in HK. After upgrading to 4.3.3 from 4.3.2 as prompted by itunes on May 10, 2011 my entire contact in my iphone was wiped out. When I checked my backed up file in Outlook Express, it was also wiped out during the synchronization. I tried to restore from backup on iTunes but still, the contact was not there anymore. I have contacted your HK Apple Hotline and talked to a technical support called TIMMY LO, he said there is nothing to do with them and he refused to provide any support to recover my contact, he even said I should try to pay extra money to 3rd party supplier and see what they can do to my iphone, despite the fact that this could be caused by the pre-mature release of 4.3.3 when a bug still hasn't been fixed. I am very disappointed at Apple's service, especially considering that I have been a loyal customer of iphone / ipod touch in the past few years. I need an official reply from Apple on this! How can Apple be so irresponsible to their own firmware failure??
