Outlook Express - Leopard Server refusing to deliver to non-local recipient

Morning all,
I have a 10.5.6 Server running IMAP / POP / SMTP services.
All Mac Leopard clients are working as expected, delivery to both local and external addresses works as expected.
However, Outlook Express will connect and retrieve mail (POP) but will only send to local recipients, any other addresses are refused delivery.
e.g.
Delivery to [email protected] works for both Mac and Windows.
Delivery to [email protected] work for Mac but not Windows (Outlook Express)
Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like it is not authenticating correctly. Make sure the authentication methods for SMTP match what you use on the client.
Failing that, increase the logging level for SMTP to "Information". Next, try to send mail and see what the logs show for that timeframe.

  • Outlook 2011 w. Exchange 2010 - deliver mail to local inbox?

Hi all. I have a problem with a MacbookPro (OSx 10.6.8, fully updated) and Outlook 2011 (14.2.5, fully updated) using an account on a Exchange 2010 server.
Mails sent directly the users e-mail address, is delivered to a local Inbox and is therefore removed from the Exchange inbox. This is a problem, because the user is also accessing the mailbox from iPad and iPhone. There are no rules at all in the Outlook settings. The mail remains in the Exchange inbox until Outlook syncronizes folders. The strange part is that the user also recieves mails, sent to distribution lists, but these mails is not delivered to the local inbox, but stays in the Exchange Inbox.
The mail in the Exchange inbox should stay there, until deleted by the user ...
I have 40 other users using the same setup (MacBookPro, iPad, various SmartPhones) and they does not have this problem.
Does anybody know what to do or do I have to reinstall Office 2011 (again, I might add ...)

I found this and it worked for me too....
Outlook 2011 Moving Exchange Messages To On My Computer
Posted on April 8, 2011 by ccooper
I had a problem where Outlook 2011 was moving sent and inbox messages from the Exchange folders to the inbox under On My Computer. The solution was to go to Tools -> Mailing List Manager and turn off the rule that must have been set by accident.
If you simply open up the Mailing List Manager I noticed that it automatically creates a rule that matches your email address and then moves them to the Inbox On My Computer. I must have been going through the various menu options and hit return by mistake.

  • OUTGOING MAIL NOT WORKING IN OUTLOOK EXPRESS AGAIN

This verizon email system is horrible. Right now I have not changed any of my settings but for some reason verizon yahoo email has decided not to send out any of my outgoing email settings.
My outgoing STMP is set at: outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net
    port: 25
I have the the correct username and password.  If I go onto yahoo verizon from my browser it will let me send mail.
It just decided to stop working with Outlook Express today.  Seems like once a month there is some kind of problem with this verizon crap.

Just to make sure, check to see if these settings are the same in outlook express
Incoming server  =  incoming.verizion.net (or incoming.yahoo.verizon.net if you have the yahoo portal partner)
Outgoing server  =  outgoing.verizon.net (outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net with yahoo partner)
do not check the "use SSL" check box
Make sure that your username does not have the @verizon.net  extention.
make sure that your password is correct
Make sure that you check the box in more settings that says "my outgoing server requires authentication" and put a dot in the radial button that says "use the same settings as my incoming server"
check the advanced settings and make sure that the outgoing port number is port 587
Make sure that none of the "SSL" check boxes are checked.
if all that is correct it should be working

Hi there I am having trouble with my outlook express this is the first time it has happened it keeps telling me can't connect to the SMTP server and every password I have tried is incorrect this is for 'iCloud' very frustrating as all our phones are ok

Well I am feeling a bit silly now because that was all I had to do. In the past Workgroup Manager had always opened right up to the list of my users, I never even thought to click on that but apparently that was all that was needed.
I still am not sure how the iChat Server preferences changed themselves on me, but it is not the first time I have had weird "settings" issues with our Snow Leopard Server.
    Thanks!

  • OS9 version of Outlook Express to Leopard version of Mail

    Hello,
I have to help a friend migrate from an early 2000 iMac running OS9 to a current new iMac running Leopard (still to be purchased).
According to MacTracker her old iMac does have Fire Wire so I imagine I should be able to hook up the two computers somehow (in Target mode?) and move data files across.
But how about her email? She's currently using Outlook Express, which I've never used and am totally unfamiliar with. Is there some way to export her email from OE in a format that can be imported into the current version of Mail that will come with her new Mac?
    thanks,
    ncm

I tried installing Thunderbird (and also Netscape 7) on her new iMac while the old iMac's hd was on the new one's desktop (courtesy FireWire Target mode), but neither of them exhibited an option to import from OS9x version of Outlook Express - only Eudora and some other obscure format were selectable from the "import from other email programs" section. I also tried exporting from Outlook Express as text deliniated format (or whatever that's called) but nothing of use was subsequently imported into Apple's Mail client..which seems to hang while trying to import. She's now on 10.5.4 on the new iMac.
Any further suggestions will be greatly appreciated. There must be some way of getting her work email from Outlook Express for OS9 and into Mail for OSX 10.5.4.
Does anybody know if there is a trial version of Entourage? Isn't that Microsoft's evolution of Outlook Express? Would that be able to import email from OE to Entourage and then possibly export that to Mail?

  • Leopard Mail & Outlook Express 6.0

For all of you struggling to get your mail clients to connect via POP to your standard Leopard Mail Installation - here's what I found.
    They don't work well together...
I found that everything works great with the same configuration settings with the Thunderbird mail client. I suspect that Outlook Express just finally fell off the usability wagon...
    Cheers,
    Scott

It takes some extra doing to get a standards-compliant mailserver like Postfix to accept non standards-compliant Windows mail software.
However, if you mean 6.0 then you're talking XP pre- SP2 which you shouldn't be using at this point.
Setup an alternate ("submission") port in /etc/postfix/master.cf
This will enable ssl but not require it. Personally I *do NOT* recommend making this port available outside your firewall, - but you may need to - proceed at your own risk.
Then set the client to use this port (587)
    587 inet n - n - - smtpd
    -o smtpdclientrestrictions=
    -o smtpdrecipient_restrictions=permit_sasl_authenticated,reject_unauthdestination,reject
    -o smtpdusetls=yes
    -o smtpdenforcetls=no
    -o content_filter=

  • From Tiger to Leopard: outlook express "lost"

I just upgraded from Tiger to Leopard. When I click on Outlook Express Mail, it won't work.
Are all my thousands of old emails lost forever?
    Thanks.

    Welcome to *Apple Discussions*!
Outlook Express Mail is not a Mac application. Therefore:
    a. You were using Outlook Web Access (OWA) through the web, in which case the alias is broken
    b. You had an alias to a virtual application running within Windows. You may need to check your application such as Parallales, Microsoft Virtual PC, or VMWare Fusion

  • Outlook Express 6 (Win XP) 'Send/Receive' server p...

For the past few months 'Outlook Express 6' has been regularly reporting the following server communication errors when attempting to download messages from the mail server. (I download messages from two separate e-mail accounts)
    The OE6 errors -
" o Message number 2 could not be retrieved. Account: 'X----- Account 1', Server: 'mail.btinternet.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR inactivity timeout', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800420CD
o Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'Y----- Account 1', Server: 'mail.btinternet.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F "
The errors usually appear after the initial start-up of Outlook Express or after the application has been dormant for some time. Generally, the first availbale e-mail message is downloaded and then the process halts and fails with the above errors reported. Subsequent 'Send/Receive' requests are usually successful but with duplicate copies of the first e-mail msg appearing in the Inbox.
    I welcome any suggestions. Thanks.

    Hello Keith,
Many thanks for sharing the search reasults for the 0x800CCC0F error.
I've now scanned through the responses, these generally indicate this error is a BT server side issue rather than an Outlook Express or Win XP problem. For me, this problem occurs regardless of e-mail msg quantity and/or email attachment size. My OE is configured to delete messages from the server after downloading them - so there is never a huge number of msgs to download throughtout the day - typically 1 to 4 per OE session.
Interesting to note that there's an increasing frequency of reponses reporting this problem within the past few months indicating an underlying 'problem' trend which isn't being fully resolved by BT Support.
I'm now experimenting with the Mozilla Thunderbird email app which so far doesn't report any issues when interacting with the BT mail server. However, I really would like to stick with Outlook Express and get back to reliable downloads from the mail server. As things were a few months ago.

  • Will Windows Outlook clients be happy with Snow Leopard Server Mail Server?

Our network at work has a Windows SBS 2003 server - and 40+ XP PCs running office 2003 (and outlook 2003).
Can I set up Snow Leopard Server so that the Outlook 2003 clients will be able to use contacts, calendars and mail etc from the mac (mini) that we would purchase for this?
I'd love to get everyone on Mac here, but we can't cos our core application is windows only and we would still need the MSSQL server. I know - we could install parallels or virtualbox for the windows apps but that is extra expense, and tbh I don't think our users could cope.
    Thanks

    Hi
+"Can I set up Snow Leopard Server so that the Outlook 2003 clients will be able to use contacts, calendars and mail etc from the mac (mini) that we would purchase for this?"+
For mail yes. For calendars you will need 'assistance' using 3rd-party applications or helper utilities. The iCal Admin manual has more details of what is available:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iCalServerv10.6.pdf
Page 12. For Addresses/Contacts consult the Address Book Server Admin Manual for more details:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/AddressBkServerv10.6.pdf
Page 12. I don't see anything specifically listed so you may have to search for these yourself unless someone else posts with something more specific that works?
If you're expecting Exchange-like functionality you will be disappointed. If you really must have the functionality you're used but also want to move to the mac platform a better prospect (IMO) would be Kerio Mail Server:
    http://www.kerio.com/connect
Depending on what other services you may or may not want you may not necessarily need OSX Server? Then again you could as easily install KMS on a Windows or Linux box instead. In which case why swop from Exchange?

  • Moving email from Outlook Express on Windows XP to Leopard Mail

What are the steps I should take to move my email from a Windows XP computer running Outlook Express to my new iMac running OS X 10.5 and Mail?
I'm assuming I have to move the mailbox files from the Windows machine to the iMac and then run some kind of import.
Where are the mailbox files on the Windows machine and what are they called?
Does Mail support a direct import of those files or do I have to convert them somehow? If I have to convert them, is there an export command in Outlook Express that will do the trick? If not, what do I need to do to convert the files? Is there an application (preferably a free one that can do the trick)?
Finally, anything I should know about that could cause an import of email to choke - bad characters in folder names, too many emails in a folder, subsubfolders, etc.?
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve

Since there were no responses, I figured I'd post my own solution. After searching around online, there seem to be several ways to accomplish this. The first I tried was installing Thunderbird on the XP box and importing the Outlook Express email into it. This seemed to have grabbed most of my email. For some reasons a few boxes did not show up in Thunderbird though. Next step was to move the Thunderbird mailboxes over to the Leopard box and run the import process in Mail. This worked for all of my boxes except my Sent mail which choked the import routine (spinning beach ball). So, I went back into Thunderbird and split the 12K emails in the sent box into 6 separate email boxes and moved those over to the Mac. They imported fine. Then I just moved the messages back into the sent box.
That still left the few mystery mail folders that didn't import into Thunderbird. For those, I downloaded a utility that converted dbx to mbox format. Ran it on those boxes, renamed the new file extensions to mbox from mbx and moved those to the Mac and imported them into Leopard.
For some reason one box still didn't come across. But I just forwarded the 8 emails in that box to myself.
It took forever (mainly because the XP machine was so slow and because of the number of emails). But, it did work.

  • Weird Outlook Express Error

Hi, I use MacOS 9.2.2 and OutLook Express 5.0.6. I have two email accounts. Lately whenever I go to retrieve email on one of the two email accounts, I get the following error description window: "Error: A message in your Outbox could not be sent. The server did not recognize the recipients. Explanation:
    5.1.1 <[email protected]> recipient invalid domain. Error: 5550
But, when I close the error message box my email is delivered. The other email account works just fine. Is there a fix?

  • Microsoft Outlook Express can not send email

    hi,
i have setup a mail server w/ mac osx snow leopard mac mini, and i have setup the smtp and open relay to spesific IP address.
Now everything looks fine for all the users, except for the users that using outlook express, they can retrieve emails, but can not send.
the error message is like this :
The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. Server Error: 504, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

    probably your smtpdhelorestrictions.
    In /etc/postfix/main.cf, look for this
    smtpdhelorestrictions = _________
    If you see this:
    smtpdhelorestrictions = rejectinvalid_helohostname rejectnon_fqdn_helohostname
    Change it to this:
    smtpdhelorestrictions = permit_mynetworks permitsaslauthenticated rejectinvalid_helohostname rejectnon_fqdn_helohostname
    Then stop/start mail service.
If that doesn't solve it, please post the unedited output of 'postconf -n' run from Terminal.

  • Move hotmail from Outlook Express (on PC) to iMail (on iMAC)

I have just migrtaed from PC to MAC - so be gentle with me...
I have several email pop3 accounts (hotmail, o2, gmail etc) that on my old PC I used via Outlook Express or Live Mail. Obviously all the mail that still sits on the Servers in the Inbox can be down loaded into iMail - I've lreay done this by creating the accounts in iMail and syncing
My problems are, how do I:-
    1. Get previously sent mail into iMail account - only inbox mail appears to come accross into iMail when I sync
    2. Copy mail (inbox and sent box) that is sitting on my PC in OE and not on the server into iMail
    3. copy my address book from OE to iMail
    Many thanks.

see this link for a few methods of transferring your mail from outlook to Mail.
    http://guides.macrumors.com/MovingEmail_from_PC_Outlook_to_AppleMail
btw, the simplest method is to use an IMAP email account. then you don't need to transfer anything as it's all synced with the server at all times. you can even use it to transfer messages on other accounts and local mailboxes by temporarily moving them to the inbox of that IMAP account. gmail provides IMAP access and it is the default in snow leopard Mail btw. so if you let snow leopard Mail set up you gmail account automatically it will create it as IMAP.

  • Broken SSL/TLS SMTP authentication with Outlook Express

    Hi All,
I've created two ports for SMTP-Authentication with required SSL/TLS : port 25 and port 587. Everythings work fine on port 25 (both smtp-auth and ssl/tls works).
But when using Outlook Express with port 587, the problems happens:
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'pop.cbn.net.id', Server: 'smtps.cbn.net.id', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
I've already disable windows firewall, Desktop Antivirus etc. but still not works.
Does anyone has the same problem? Thank you.

Sorry I'm a little late to the party.
This is a bug in OE. It is attempting to do an SSL negotiation immediately when the connection opens, like what a web browser does for HTTPS connections, rather than using the STARTTLS mechanism to start TLS in the middle of the connection. In other words, it's attempting to use the old, never actually standardized SMTPS protocol if you attempt to do secure SMTP on any port other than 25. When we deployed mandatory SSL/TLS here, we had to deploy an SMTPS server on port 465, just for OE users (our mail relay server is not an IronPort).
SMTPS was never standardized, never even made it past one Internet-Draft. It's allocation of port 465 was later revoked by IANA and reassigned to another protocol. Yet it was treated as gospel by many mail client authors. I refused to support it on our mail server until it became obvious that OE simply wouldn't work otherwise (getting correct STARTTLS operation by using port 25 is not always available because of ISPs doing port 25 blocking). I don't blame IronPort in the least for not supporting it, although it does make this situation harder to resolve.
I have learned to hate OE.
