My file folders have dissapeared from outlook and are now in my documents with a dbx file that I cannot open.  How do I restore the files to outlook express?   thanks.

  • What happened to my Mail accounts?

What happened to my Mail accounts?  I updated software to 10.9.2, and all my accounts are gone.  Under "Internet Accounts," they're all still shown, but none will enable.  All my Mail folders, everything.  Mail seems to be a clean install.  ***

    Launch Mail.
Click "Bookmarks" in the menu bar and then  "Rebuild" from the dropdown.
    Best.

  • Migrating Outlook Express on a PC to Mail on a new Mac

I have a PC with Outlook Express and a large e-mail account (POP).
I want to maintain this e-mail address with my local ISP but I need to figure out a way to get this mailbox into the new Mac.
If I can only get the messages themsleves I guess that would be ok but if there was a way to maintain all the folders created, etc that would be ideal.
    Any ideas?
Reading other posts somebody said something about utilizing an IMAP account to transfer everything but I'm not sure how to go about doing that.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Since you have a new Mac, you can create a .Mac trial account for free which is good for 60 days I believe.
A .Mac type account with Apple's Mail application is really an IMAP account and behaves in the same way.
When creating a .Mac account with the Mail.app, the default account type provided is .Mac but you can also select IMAP or POP as the account type.
You can create a .Mac account as an IMAP or POP account with a different email client on a Mac or Windows PC.
After creating your .Mac trial account as a .Mac or IMAP account with Mail on your Mac, you can create the account as an IMAP account with Outlook Express on your Windows PC.
After doing so, copy messages from the POP account's Inbox mailbox to .Mac account's Inbox mailbox and the same for the POP account's Sent mailbox to your .Mac account's Sent mailbox.
Launch Mail on your Mac and these messages will be available in your .Mac account's Inbox mailbox and Sent mailbox.
Create two "On My Mac" location mailboxes in Mail - one for transferred Inbox messages and one for the transferred Sent messages.
Transfer these messages from your .Mac account's Inbox mailbox and Sent mailbox to the appropriate user created "On My Mac" mailboxes which are stored locally on the hard drive. This process will save the transferred messages locally on the hard drive and remove the messages from the server at the same time.
A .Mac trail account has limited server storage space so if the Inbox mailbox and Sent mailbox for this POP account in OE on your PC exceeds the server storage limit for a .Mac trail account, you must do this in stages and although this may sound involved, it really isn't and overall is probably the easiest and fastest way to do so.

What happens to the mail in my iMac after I delete it from my iPhone? Will it be deleted from my computer as well?

If they are both using the same iCloud ID (assuming you are running your mail from iCloud), then yes, the email will disappear from your Mac after you delete it from your phone and after your phone sycs with iCloud and your Mac syncs with iCloud.
I use a windows phone, but it works the same.

What happens to a mail item, when Fn-Ctrl-Alt-Del is pressed while in the mail tool? I can't seem to find the email file anywhere.

What happens to a mail item, when Fn-Ctrl-Alt-Del is pressed while in the mail tool? I can't seem to find the email file anywhere.
Looks to me like I permanently deletes the message.
Is there a way to disable this key pattern in the mail program?
Is this really a key combination you find it easy to press by mistake? To answer the question, no, it doesn't look like you can remap that, but note that if you choose Edit -> Undo immediately after deleting, the message will come back.

  • OS9 version of Outlook Express to Leopard version of Mail

    Hello,
I have to help a friend migrate from an early 2000 iMac running OS9 to a current new iMac running Leopard (still to be purchased).
According to MacTracker her old iMac does have Fire Wire so I imagine I should be able to hook up the two computers somehow (in Target mode?) and move data files across.
But how about her email? She's currently using Outlook Express, which I've never used and am totally unfamiliar with. Is there some way to export her email from OE in a format that can be imported into the current version of Mail that will come with her new Mac?
    thanks,
    ncm

I tried installing Thunderbird (and also Netscape 7) on her new iMac while the old iMac's hd was on the new one's desktop (courtesy FireWire Target mode), but neither of them exhibited an option to import from OS9x version of Outlook Express - only Eudora and some other obscure format were selectable from the "import from other email programs" section. I also tried exporting from Outlook Express as text deliniated format (or whatever that's called) but nothing of use was subsequently imported into Apple's Mail client..which seems to hang while trying to import. She's now on 10.5.4 on the new iMac.
Any further suggestions will be greatly appreciated. There must be some way of getting her work email from Outlook Express for OS9 and into Mail for OSX 10.5.4.
Does anybody know if there is a trial version of Entourage? Isn't that Microsoft's evolution of Outlook Express? Would that be able to import email from OE to Entourage and then possibly export that to Mail?

More information would be helpful. What version of the OS are you running? What about the new layout don't you like? Try Mail/Preferences/Viewing and check use classic layout to see if that is what you want.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • I am not able to import my whole inbox from Outlook Express what can I do?

I need to improve my old but trust email and selected Thunderbird, I downloaded it and it set up most of my folders and a few mails into my inbox. Clearly not everything was correct so I read the help, and uninstalled Thunderbird, set outlook express as the default email client programme, downloaded Thunderbird again and this time all the folders were there with the emails within them - but the inbox only held about 5 emails.. (It should have about 1,500) not sure how to get my old email in... is there a cheat such as move all the email in inbox to a temportary email folder and then reinstall Thunderbird, and then simply move the email from the temporary folder back into the inbox?
Seems to be it should move it without having to do this , but strange things can happen!!

Outlook express is notorious for corrupt DBX files. not always such that things do not work in Ouytlook express.
Tools menu (Alt+T) > import and you can retry the import as often as you like. Each try will create an outlook expresss [number] folder under local folders with what it has obtained in them.
Note that import maiol only hey... your setting apparently came first time round.
I would suggest running one of the DBX repair tools on outlook express toi be sure.

  • Outlook express and Bt internet e mail

I have had bt internet for many years, probably 12 years. I have always used outlook express to download and view my e mails. However, about 6 months ago I started having error messages which I will post below. The symptoms are these. If I have several e mails sitting on the server, it will download say 3 of them and not download the rest, an error message will come up. If I try send and receive again it will download the 3 same duplicate e mailes and then an error message will come up. I have one main account and 3 sub accounts, the same proble occurs on all three accounts. Other times the e mails will download to OE no problem
Message number 3 could not be retrieved. Account: 'mail.btinternet.com', Server: 'mail.btinternet.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR inactivity timeout', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800420CD
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'mail.btinternet.com', Server: 'mail.btinternet.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
Does any one have a solution to this problem, it's seems that it's a common problem when I do a search on google.

When I talked to the BT lady who took control over my pc she did not seem to want to know anything about the fact it was a common fault. What has changed?????It only started happening about 6 months ago. I just can't use the e mail now unless I go onto Yahoo and look at it directly, it's a real pain. Any suggestions, is it only applicable to bt/yahoo, would it be any different if I change providers or am I going completely down the wrong track, would it work better with Outlook.

    gw3xjc,
There is several variants of this problem.
The most common is due to a slowish internet connection and largish emails usually with attachments. The slower the connection the smaller the emails that cause the problem.
What happens is the server times out prematurely trying to download the largish email and as the transaction is not completed all previous emails in that transaction are not marked as having been downloaded so they are downloaded again when you next do a send/receive.
(If you have different symptoms please elaborate)
There are a few ways that you can possibly alleviate it and/or cure it.
    1. A cure has been suggested in this thread in the last few posts:
    http://community.bt.com/t5/Other-BB-Queries/Windows-Mail-Server-Terminating-Connection-when-download...
    2.  You can increase the server timeout value using the advanced section of the Account properties in OE.
Also stop OE from checking for emails automatically and send/receive manually.
    3.  You can set up a message rule in OE that checks the size of the email and if bigger than a value you specify Not download it from the server.    This should allow all smaller emails to be downloaded.   You of course need to log on via webmail and check the large emails that are left on the server periodically.
    4. You can try other providers eg Yahoo.co.uk  (non BT variant and not yahoo.com) Gmail etc that do not seem as prone to the problem.
    5. Using Outlook does not help and probably makes the problem worse.

  • Outlook Express and Netscape/Default e-mail account

I have recently replaced my Internet Explorer with Netscape 7.02. When I send an e-mail from a website on Netscape, it prompts me to set up a new account to send the e-mail. IE always launched Outlook Express when I sent an e-mail from a website. Outlook Express is designated as my default e-mail account in Control Panels. Netscape support has been of no help. Can I get Netscape to go to my Outlook Express to send e-mails from websites or must I use the e-mail application that comes with the Netscape?

    Greg,
Trouble is that having changed mine to OE a longtime ago I'm not sure that what I see is what you see.
Having gone to about:config do you see network.protocol-handler.external.mailto if you scroll down? I do, but that may be because I have changed already.
If you do see it control-click on it and a drop down menu will come up in which you choose New > Boolean. Having chosen that enter network.protocol-handler.external.mailto when prompted then follow the instructions in the link I gave.
If you don't see it (and it sounds as though you don't) just control-click anywhere on the page and do the same.
Sorry I can't be more precise, it's ages since I did mine.

  • Importing messages from Outlook Express on a PC to Mail

I just spent a long time looking through posts to find a way to do this, and still had difficulties, until finding this link:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20040325164915651
    on one of the posts.
Actually it is simpler than described on that link, presumably because it's a couple of years old and the software has improved.
All you need to do now is Copy-Paste all the emails from each OE folder into a new folder you create on your desktop (OE lets you do this. So you make an Inbox folder, Sent folder, etc). Copy those folders over from PC to Mac (eg using a Fat32 formatted external drive) , then drag & drop those files one folder at a time into a Subfolder that you create in Entourage. (ie you make a new Inbox, Sent etc subfolder) Then Mail will import these folders from Entourage by itself using Import.
You need to have Entourage (part of Office) to do this.
    cheers

  • What happens to my mail when I hit the "archive" button?

I inadvertently pushed the "archive" button in Mail and one my messages was 'sucked' away. I was wondering what happens to these archived messages and whether it is possible to retrieve them.
    Thank you for the help!

That will be in your Gmail account at a guess.
Look online on a browser at your Gmail account and you can find the instructions on how to get at archived mail.
