Outlook for iPad application-specific password

I am testing out Microsoft Outlook for iPad and also Outlook for iPhone.  I have downloaded the latest versions of the apps on both devices.  I have iOS 8.1.3 installed on both devices.  The behavior question, however, is with two-step verification, and application-specific passwords.  I initially setup MS Outlook for iPad, and generated an app-specific password for it, entered it, and I was then able to access my iCloud email via Outlook for iPad  (I have an iPad Air).  I then setup MS Outlook on my iPhone 6 Plus, generated an app-specific password for it, entered it, and I was then able to access my iCloud email via Outlook on the iPhone.  I later went back to my iPad Air, and it rejected my password for iCloud.  I generated another app-specific password, entered it, and I could then access my iCloud email on the iPad Air.  Later, I attempted to access iCloud email on my iPhone, and it rejected the password.  I had to then repeat the process, but then the same cycle occurred again.  I then revoked all previously created app-specific passwords, closed both MS Outlook programs on the iPad Air and iPhone 6 Plus, and generated a new app-specific password.  I opened MS Outlook for iPad, entered the newly generated password on it, and then opened MS Outlook for iPhone, and entered the SAME password on it.  Both are now operating using the same password.  Is this normal?  I ask because gmail app-specific passwords allows me to generate a separate password for each device used, which I check using the same the same program -- MS Outlook.  Further, I have Parallels installed on my MacBook Pro 15, along with Microsoft Outlook for Windows 2013, generated an app-specific password for this, and it is unaffected by the app-specific password generated for the iPad and iPhone.  All work fine.  I am just throwing this out there to the community to see if this is normal for the Apple app-specific password generator when using two-step verification.

If you've activated 2-step verification, you need to generate an application-specific password in your Google account and enter it instead of the login password you use on the website. You must change the password for both the incoming and the outgoing mail server. You'll need another password for contacts.

  • Google application specific password issues

I have been using TBird both at home and work for couple of weeks. Last week I had to update the google calendar provider to version 1.02. Since then, I have been having problems with passwords on my work machine since then. I do use Google App Specific passwords. TBird keeps asking for a different password for IMAP (incoming) and SMTP (Outgoing). I have generated and entered passwords multiple times and also uninstalled and reinstalled TBird. I'm not having this problem on my home machine. Both machines are Win 8 64-Bit ultimate. I only have a single password on my home machine. I have tried both a single and dual password for work. Suggestions?

You should only need one app specific password for both incoming and smtp. When applying a new password, remove the old stored password for mailbox and smtp and then when you get mail or send it would ask for the password. Enter password and select the option for password manager to remember the passwords.
Please note that you only need an Application Specific Password if you use a device such as a phone to access gmail and therefore set up the 2 step verification process.
If you never use anything other than your computer to access emails then you do not need 2 step verification and therefore do not need Application Specific password. But you may need to specify that you use a less secure apps. See info:

  • Frequent gmail Application Specific Password reset

    Hello all!
Over the last couple weeks, my gmail login which I use through all my iOS devices and mail on my MBP with 10.8.2 has been having issues on the computer. Almost on a daily basis, I am having to reset my password for the gmail servers. I dutifully use the two step protection, and only recently have I needed to change the app specific password for mac mail on an almost daily routine. None of my other devices have issues. Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • How do I get gmail's application specific password to work on iPod mail?

I have an iPod touch 3 generation and I just signed up for gmail's 2 step verification and it said I need a special password for the mail system on my iPod. They gave me a 16 letter password and I think I plugged it into the right spot but it doesn't work and even when I put my actual password in it doesn't update my mail. It hasn't updated my mail on my iPod since I started the 2 step verification on gmail. What should I do?

  • I am locked out of IMAP for want of a password and I don't know what password is required.

I had an unauthorized attempt to login to my Gmail account which was blocked. Gmail wanted me to change my Google password, which I did. Gmail now works fine, but Thunderbird now asks for:
"Enter your password for -- [email protected]@imap.gmail.com:" to which I have
    1. Put in the new password several times and gets rejected each time, and
    2. I deleted the old password, as well as the new password, that Thunderbird recorded, several times (The only way to change a password saved by the password manager is to delete it, get prompted for the new password the next time it needs it, and then tell it again to save that password. You can delete the password using Tools -> Options -> Privacy -> Passwords -> View Saved Passwords by selecting the password and then pressing the Remove button). I have been prompted for the new
    password.
I keep getting the generated tiny reply at the bottom right of my screen" Thunderbird Alert from account [email protected]: Application specific password required: http://support.google.com/accounts/bin/answer=185833 (Failure).
This question is similar to the gentleman having problems in the Uk/Carribean, but Gmail did not generate me a new password, I did.
    Any new suggestions welcome!

Since this is IMAP your messages are stored on the server, so the following should not cause you to loose any e-mails. Try the following as a last resort.

  • Using Google 2FA and app-specific password--can receive but not send

I'm using Mail to check my Gmail account.  I use 2FA on my Google account and therefore use an app-specific password for Apple Mail.  I receive mail fine (although sometimes the message doesn't get pushed to Mail, it seems...maybe this is a different issue) but I can't send a message.  I get this error:
...but I've already entered my app-specific password and there's nowhere to enter it.  The link in the error message is dead.

If you've activated 2-step verification, you need to generate an application-specific password in your Google account and enter it instead of the login password you use on the website.

  • How do I use a MessageSelector with application-specific properties

According to a couple of JMS references (Sun, Oreilly) and the oracle documentation (under the heading "Using Oracle Java Messaging Service (JMS) to Access AQ", page 102 of 1082 , Application Developers Guide - Advanced Queuing, Release 2 (8.1.6))
    Standard JMS Features
"Message selection based on message header fields/properties"
Is there a special syntax for using application-specific (user defined) JMS message properties as message selectors in Oracle 8.1.7?
I've tried to create a message selector based on a custom property that I set, i.e. "username != 'William'". (example from O'Reilly JMS book, pg. 44)
I always get a JMS-159: Invalid selector Selector Parse error unless the property is a JMS-Defined property. i.e., " JMSMessageID = 'ID:9789D65E215B3613E034080020B1456E' " works fine.
From the docs and the oter examples, I figure application-specific (user-defined) properties are legal.
Thans for any help in advance.

Well I found an article in another forum that states in oracle 8i, message selectors are only supported on JMSCorrelationID and JMSMessageID
(9i will have/has the full JMS spec support for message selectors , or so the response to the message says)
    Thanks anyway

  • Send/Receive problem in Outlook for Mac 2011

Ever since I installed Lion and iCloud my Outlook for Mac application will not receive mail unless I manully click the Send/Receive button. I have checked the schedule button under Preferences.
Prior to the installation of Lion and iCloud I received mail automatically.
    ANy ideas for settings?

Hi. I had same problem. All you need is to change outgoing and incoming servrrs. I had smtp.me.com and mail.me.com instead of smtp.mail.me.com and imap.mail.me.com, as described here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864
It was working up to yesterday. You may need just change servers names in account options in outlook. Be ready to full message database rebuilding

  • Organize JDev for large applications

    Hello JDev team,
In order to properly manage very large applications and different versions of the same application (like maintenance and development) in the same environment, there are various settings that would find their more appropriate place at the level of the workspace.
I already saw some other threads discussing similar topics, I would only like to put them together and try to get some schedules :-)
    1. One problem is that there are no nested workspaces, and you don't have good "visibility" outside your own workspace (one example, you cannot create a BC Client Data Model unless the BC project is in the same workspace).
Nested workspaces would be great for properly organizing a large application. If you implement this, please don't forget the visibility "details".
    2. A quite different problem is related to the definition of libraries. Once you have to manage in parallel, in the same environment, different versions of the same application, things become hard to manage.
Most of the projects should have their associated library defined, as there are relations between projects. But a library entry is absolute, so it stands for one version. When you have to switch to another version (which is also under SCM), there are different physical paths on the disk, so different values for the libraries. And you have to change (one by one or directly in libraries.xml) their definitions.
This would be solved naturally if the libraries were defined for a workspace. And would also provide the possibility to have relative paths rather than absolute ones, which is easier to manage.
    3. Base classes. It is nice to have this in the global Preferences, but, as somebody else noticed before me, it might be necessary sometimes to have different base classes for different applications, all in the same development environment. This comes similar to having base classes defined (also) at the level of the workspace.
    4. Debugger/Breakpoints/Default Action. This is another kind of preference I would like to have at the level of the workspace, or even for each project. Especially because of the "Group of Breakpoints" section.
    5. Deployment. Here, a new option "Relative to Workspace Directory" would do. Or, allow the definition of the default deployment directory for each workspace.
    6. Web Browser/Proxy. Well, here my problem might be more specific. We access internet resources via a proxy, so when it comes to accessing Oracle resources (like Check for Updates...) from JDeveloper, the proxy setting is useful, even required.
But, in our intranet development, we do not use a proxy (not the same, anyway). So, for normal development purposes, there should be no proxy.
In this case, what I would like would be to have the global setting in the IDE preferences used for global resources, while the setting in the workspace (if any) will be used for the application-specific resources (e.g. servlet URL).
I am quite sure I did not cover all the possible enhancement topics, but I hope things will be checked carefully.
Apart from adding valuable features for developers, the approach of moving certain preferences from the IDE to a "work component" (workspace, project) would also help team-work.
Once one team member will set some preference(s) for a workspace (and put it under SCM), this setting(s) will be automatically available to all other team members.
Could you please comment my issues and tell me which of them (with the solutions that you foresee) could integrate 9.0.4?
    Thank you,
    Adrian

    Hi Adrian,
    Thanks for the detailed feedback.
I agree with you that there are significant issues when using project files at the moment in a team environment, particularly when an SCM system is involved. And since a recent survey indicated that the majority of JDeveloper users use some kind of SCM system, it's particularly important that we address this in future releases.
At the moment, I'm putting together some suggestions for future changes in this area from the point of view of the feature team who develop SCM support in JDeveloper. Your ideas are useful input into this process. Sadly, it's unlikely that any major changes to the way project files are stored will make it into 9.0.4, since 9.0.4 has already gone into "bugfix only" mode, and the focus of the 9.0.4 release has been on performance improvements and stability. However, we are looking at this issue for a future release (possibly 9.0.5, although these discussions are at a very early stage).
I've included comments on some of your specific points below.
    1. Nested workspaces
There was some discussion about whether we should use nested projects a long time ago (i.e. get rid of the concept of a workspace altogether, and just allow projects to contain, and presumably inherit properties from, other projects). This is currently being tracked as ER 2048949. It requires a substantial change to the architecture of JDeveloper and could have a massive effect on components across the IDE. I believe that a lot of the issues with project files can be solved in other ways without going to the extreme of using nested projects / workspaces.
    2. Library Definitions
Project-scope libraries should hopefully make this a whole lot easier in 9.0.3. I also like the idea of defining libraries at the workspace level so that they can be shared between projects; alternatively, using a "library definition" file as a separate, version-controllable resource that can be referred to by a project. I've filed ER 2689043 to track this.
    3. Base Classes
This is a BC4J thing, and a bit outside my area of knowledge :) I'll pass your suggestions along.
    4. Debugger Preferences
I'm not sure what you mean by "group of breakpoints section"
    5. Deployment
    Filed ER 2689052
    6. Web Browser/Proxy
You might be able to make use of the "Exceptions" field in the proxy settings to help with this. Within Oracle, we have exactly the same issue, but normally use an exception list that looks something like this: "localhost|127.0.0.1|*.oracle.com|*.oraclecorp.com|*.oracleads.com"
One of the areas I'm interested in seeing improved is the concept of "configurations" that we currently have in project files. For example, it would be nice to define a workspace-scope configuration that's inherited by projects. Also nice would be the ability to allow read-only configurations (that are source controlled as part of the checked in project definition) and user/view-specific configurations (which would not be version controlled). The user/view specific configurations could inherit preferences from the read-only configurations, and the user could override things in a way that wouldn't affect other users (e.g. in the "Paths" preferences, change the output directory to one on their own local machine) without having to check out the project file from source control.
    Thanks,
    Brian
