Outlook for Mac - database problem

So I deleted some files from the User files on Mac to free up space on drive.  When I tried to open Outlook from Office for Mac 2011 I now get this meesage...
There is a problem with the Office database. To use the database, you must rebuild it using the Database Utility.
The Office database stores your personal information, such as the Scrapbook and Outlook messages and contacts. To continue, click Rebuild. After the rebuilding process is complete, close the Database Utility. Then the database will be available for your Office applications.
When I tried to rebuild the main identity using the Microsoft Database Utility, it got to step 3 then came up with an error that reads:  Microsfot Database Utility has encountered a problem and needs to close...
I am thining i need to unistall and re-install outllook.  Can anyopne provide any guidance/

I am using Outlook for Mac (2011) with an Exchange Account and the contacts General Tab is blank.  The other tabs, such as Organization, Details, etc seem to work fine.  I can also use contacts search, change it to the Enterprise Directory and it works fine?

    Hi Rick,
This is probably your best bet - http://www.markspace.com/
I've never had good luck syncing Blackberry devices with OS X, especially with Entourage (the now discontinued Mac predecessor to Outlook). Missing Sync has never given me any issues/problems in the 4+ years that I've been using it with clients.

  • Send/Receive problem in Outlook for Mac 2011

Ever since I installed Lion and iCloud my Outlook for Mac application will not receive mail unless I manully click the Send/Receive button. I have checked the schedule button under Preferences.
Prior to the installation of Lion and iCloud I received mail automatically.
    ANy ideas for settings?

Hi. I had same problem. All you need is to change outgoing and incoming servrrs. I had smtp.me.com and mail.me.com instead of smtp.mail.me.com and imap.mail.me.com, as described here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864
It was working up to yesterday. You may need just change servers names in account options in outlook. Be ready to full message database rebuilding

  • Problems accessing info in Outlook for mac

    Hi,
I have used Outlook for Mac ever since I bought my first macbook pro and it has been fine, but since I upgraded to my macbook pro and migrated files across to the retina, upgraded to Mavericks etc, I don't seem to be able to access files that should ahve trnasferred across.  the file structure are there but when I try to open something, the folder looks empty.  Going into Get Info and I get "outlook can't open the file because it is 'not associated with the deafult identity'.
I know the first reaction of apple is - this is not an apple product so we don't help, but I think this is a cop out as in this modern world where we're trying to get stuff to work seamlessly, that shouldn't really make a difference and in any event Apple were happy to sell me Outlook when I bought the laptop.  I will be posing the same question in the microsoft community.  But does anyone else recognise this problem and have a solution in language that someone who isn't very techy can understand?

These are user to user forums, and I think if anyone can help they will, regardless of whether the product is made by Apple or not.  But as a practical matter, only a tiny % of the people reading your message here have any experience with outlook, while every person reading your message at the MS forum will have this:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoutlook
Also this is a hardware forum, and your problem is strictly software and is not related to the kind of Mac being used.  So a better place to ask would be

  • Problem with Signature tab drop down in Outlook for Mac 2011

I am setting up Outlook 2011 on my mac and have run across a problem with the signatures that I have been unable to resolve.
I have set up 2 signatures for my two different pop accounts and thought that if I defaulted them to their appropriate account they would automatically be seen in email when I had chosen the corresponding email account. I then discovered that it was not
possible to do this in Outlook 2011 for Mac.
So I selected NONE as the defaults for my two signatures, and thought I would be able to manually add the appropriate signature to each email as I compose or reply.  BUT NO!!!! THE PROBLEM LIES BELOW:
The 2 signatures that I set up are visible in the drop down menu from the signature tab in an email, however they are greyed out and cannot be selected.  I have attempted selecting one of these signatures as the default, and whichever one
I select dutifully appears when I compose a new email, but when I click on the drop down to change the signature, both are still greyed out.
So effectively, I only have the option of one signature or none, despite being able to set up multiple signatures in my profile.
Does anyone know why this is occurring and what the solution is?
    Thanking you in advance.

    Hi,
Please remove the Signature and re-add it back to check whether the issue persists. We can follow the articles below to create signature in Outlook 2011 for Mac:
How to create signature or customize it (add picture) in Outlook for Mac 2011
    http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/2455171/en-us
Add a signature automatically to every message
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/mac-outlook-help/add-a-signature-automatically-to-every-message-HA102928243.aspx
If the new created Signature is still greyed out in your Outlook, please restart the Outlook client in safe mode to confirm if the issue is caused by any third-party add-ins.
If the issue persists in Outlook safe mode, I suggest you ask a question in Outlook for Mac forum for further troubleshooting:

  • Outlook for Mac won't retain restored email database.

    Hi all.
A couple of days ago I performed an export of what I thought was just pre-2014 emails from my Outlook for Mac 2011 program.
I turned out that all the emails were exported and, for some stupid reason, I had clicked the "delete" button during the export process so they all went.
The export file is around 2.5GB, which seems about right for the number of emails that were exported.
The problem is that I've been unable to import the emails back into the program.  The instant error message I get says: "Outlook did not import an all your data. You stopped the import process before it was completed."
This happens even though I don't actually do anything.
Now this is where it gets weird, I have done two complete reinstalls from my Time Capsule. On both occasions, all my email reappears in the inbox, but then as soon as Outlook starts to sync, they begin to disappear.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can permanently restore my old emails?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
    I'm using OS X 10.8.5

  • If I switch to iCloud, Outlook for Mac is not synchronizing with iCal and iCloud anymore. Is there a solution for this problem?

I normally use Outlook for Mac as the standard email and calendar programm. When I use the USB cable fro synchronising contacts and calendars with my iPhone 4s ther is not problem at all. iCal, Mail and Oulook for Mac are synchronising perfectly.
When I switch to iCloud, Oulook is completely empty and Calendar and Contacts are not synchronised anymore.
Is this a known problem, and is there a solution for it?

I have the same keyboard and do not have battery issues.
It may have something to do with using rechargeable batteries.
You can also try removing the keyboard then re-pairing it. Maybe a bad bluetooth connection is draining the battery.
    System Preferences > Bluetooth > right-click (control-click) on the keyboard > Remove > Remove
Wait for it to show in the bluetooth list then Pair > enter the number sequence & return as displyed on the screen.

  • Problems with Outlook for Mac 2011 after installing Lion

I've installed Lion yesterday and found that all my mail folders, contacts and claendar entries have dissapeared from Outlook for Mac 2011.  I have also found out that I have lost iSync as well.  I need to get all my data from Outlook 2011.  How do I do this?

    Hi Julian,
Thanks for the reply mate, I really appreciate you taking the time out to post a reply.
I didn't do a back-up of my data prior to installing Lion.  I hadn't thought that I would have this issue with installing a Mac product onto a Mac lap top.  So unless there is another option, I can't take your advice.
    Thanks anyway,
    Scott

  • Outlook for Mac 2011 Fails to Startup?

Running MBPR 13" with OSX ML 10.8.3 and Office for Mac 2011 14.3.2
I do not often restart my MBP, so after a couple of weeks of trouble free operation I updated OSX and allowed the ritual restart. Upon completion, Outlook for Mac failed to restart. In the interevening period I had installed various pieces of SW including Citrix (Receiver and GTM), 4G telco utilities and Skype. In trying to troubleshoot potential background competing processes, I followed the steps outlined below including an uninstall of all apps listed above:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2398596
I've had no success yet and wonder if anyone has any suggestions about known problems with Outlook for Mac competing or conflicting with other APps or Aple background processes?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Cheers, Sla

Thanks, I found this amongst the various entries in the link you provided:
    http://roaringapps.com/app:315#post-1356
The post from "Edil" was what fixed the problem, as follows:
"What did work for me is rebuilding my Office identity using the Microsoft Database Utility (found in Applications->Microsoft Office 2011->Office folder). It will create a backup of the existing Main Identity and rebuilds it and becomes your new Main Identity. Haven't encountered the problem so far since then."
Not sure of root cause, but it's fixed so I shall disappear (for now)...
    Cheers, Sla

  • Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011 (14.2.3) keeps producing the spinning wheel after implementation of Mountain Lion.

Since I started using Mountain Lion MS Outlook for Mac 2011 has become very slow, it continues to show the spinning wheel at almost everything I do. It is almost unworkable this way. Does anyone know how to solve this?

You can try rebuilding your database via the Database Utility. Make sure Outlook isn't holding onto any other databases other than yours. Also, if you're using an Exchange account with Outlook, try and keep your inbox as clean as possible. Microsoft claims that your main boxes (Inbox, Sent, Deleted, Drafts) should be kept as small as possible, and you should use a folder structure outside of these folders if you intend on saving and organizing old emails.
Is this just an Outlook issue, or are you seeing the speed problem anywhere else?

  • Is there any way to sync Outlook for Mac with iPhone? I have tried everything but not successful. Apple says it is not possible to sync contacts from Outlook for Mac to iPhone 5. Any help will be much appreciated.

Is there any way to Sync contacts from Outlook for Mac to iPhone 5? Apple support says that only iTune can only sync contacts from "Contact" which is the default contact of Mac. If one is running Outllok on a Mac machine then it is not possible to sync the contacts with iPhone. It is strange that Apple distributors are promoting and offering machines with promise that Windows users can now run MS Office on Mac machines without any problem. While this is true, it is so strange that one cannot sync the contacts from MacBook Pro to iPhone5. If someone has found a way to sync contacts from Outlook to iPhone 5 please help as it is very frustrating to not be able to sync the contacts. Thanks, Amit.
