Outlook (MS Office 2011) will not open

Outlook (MS Office 2011) will not open.  It begins to open with the opening window appearing and then just shuts down.  I am running Mac OS X Version 10.7.5.

I've tried removing Office 2011 completely and re-installing to no avail.

Unfortunately, my experience with Office is that somethoping will get corrupted in your account that prevents it from running. I have never figured out  what exactly needs to be removed to make it work again.

  • I downloaded os x mavericks and now ms word 2011 will not open.

I downloaded OS X Mavericks and now my MS Word 2011 will not open. My MS Office is not new. The only thing new is Mavericks. If someone can, please help me get Word working again. Excel and Powerpoint are working fine. My previous system was Lion, which worked wonderfully in every way. I did not need a cloud for anything. I feel as though I am now in the fog.

I was able to find some relevant postings after I asked for help and one of them said to restart my mac again. I did so and this allowed my Java to find the path it needed to complete the update required to run Word. Thankfully I do not have to remove MS Office at this time, but I appreciate the advice. If it starts giving me problems again, I will go through the steps you advised. Thanks!

Follow these instructions to uninstall MacKeeper. They have been tested with the most recent version of MacKeeper (v 2.8). Earlier versions than the one released in 2012 require more extensive work to uninstall all its components.
The effects of having actually used MacKeeper to do anything are a completely different matter. The fastest way to take an exquisitely designed and painstakingly engineered Mac and make it run like a steaming pile of dung is to install and use such ill-conceived "cleaning" or "security" products. This is just one example of a broad category of time- and money-wasters capable of causing damage that can only be rectified by reinstalling OS X, restoring from a backup, or completely erasing your system and rebuilding it from the ground up. Never install such junk on a Mac.
If you used MacKeeper to encrypt any files or folders, use MacKeeper to un-encrypt them first.
Quit the MacKeeper app if it is running.
Open your Applications folder: Using the Finder's Go menu, select Applications.
Drag the MacKeeper icon from your Applications folder (not the Dock) to the Trash.
You will be asked to authenticate (twice):
You do not need to provide a reason for uninstalling it:
Just click the Uninstall MacKeeper button. You will be asked to authenticate again.
After it uninstalls you may empty the Trash and restart your Mac. All that will remain is an inert log file that does nothing but occupy space on your hard disk.

  • My Excel 2011 will not open an .xlsb file, how do I open the file?

I have a working document that I need to access, but my version of Excel will not open the file. It states that there's an issue with the file, and some of the spreadsheet isn't supported "-slicer". Do I need to upgrade my Excel version, is there a patch? I need some direction.
    thank you.

xlsb files are binary Excel worksheets, and many have problems with them. Make sure your version of Office 2011 is up to date. If that doesn't help, try reinstalling Office.

  • Office 2013 Will not open documents in a shared folder but 2007 will.

    Hi,
Recently we are testing office 2013 and have noticed a problem. When office attempts to open an Excel or Word document that is stored on a shared drive on the file server it will not open it. When you double click on the document, either word or
Excel, the appropriate Office app opens, but it opens on the start screen, i.e. the one with the templates displayed.
There are no error messages displayed , and it appears that the office app opens twice, i.e you see the splash screen with the app name on it two times in quick succession, however you cannot find two instances of the app open.
If you simply copy the document from the shared drive to the users desktop and then double click the file , the appropriate app opens and the file also opens without a problem.
Also if you go to a client machine with office 2007 loaded on it then the document on the shared drive opens without a problem at all.
The client machine with office 2013 is a Dell E7440 with windows 7 Pro 64bit.
    Thanks in advance

    I think its working now.
Here is what I had to do.
Delete Office from the machine once again, this time using the Microsoft tool to remove all remnants of the office software , then manually check the registry to see all the referenced keys had been removed.
    Reboot.
Copy all the users data to another location on the same machine.
    Delete the users profile.
    Reboot.
Reload office using the link Dell sent me.
    Reboot.
Log in as a domain admin and check that office would open the documents on the file share and it did.
    Reboot.
Log in as the user who’s profile I had deleted so that the profile was recreated.
Attempt to open documents on the file share and it was successful.
Move most of the users data back to the users folder so that his system looked the same as before.
    Reboot.
Try again to use office applications and open documents from the file share and it continued to function correctly.
Waited a day for the user to see how it went and it is still working now.
I have no idea what could have been causing this problem or why doing what I did above fixed it.
I hope the problem does not return.
Now we can move on with more testing to see its suitability to our field service engineers, remote connections and connections to our customer systems will be checked next.

  • Office 2013 will not open any applications

I am having a problem with a number of users complaining that Office 2013 applications will not open. I double click on the icon, or single click on the tile (Windows 8.1) nothing happens. Looking at the task manager the only thing related to the office
is the Office ClickToRun service is running.
The only thing I can do to get things working again is to do a full repair from the Programs and Features Control Panel Applet. I have tried the quick repair and numerous other things but nothing else works. I have let it go for many hours thinking it may
be installing something but still nothing happens.
Since I know how to fix it, the problem has a work around, however, since I am running a good number of workstations using 2013 this way I am afraid this is going to happen to more users (So far it is three users).
Please help, there must be a way to fix this instead of repairing every time it happens.

    Hi,
Do you try to open Office with below methods?
Go to Office location folder to open Office suits.
    Press Win+R>Enter winword.exe (or other)
If we can open them, please follow the KB and re-create the software shortcut in Windows 8.1
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2820848/en-us
If we still can't open them, please first let me know the update lists you have installed before this issue.
Then, restore the system back to the point when the Office app work fine.
As following, we can install these updates one by one to navigate which update cause this issue.
Then post back the KB number and full name here.
I will try to reproduce your issue and plan for further troubleshooting steps.
    Thanks

Well, how about delete the entire Microsoft 2008 folder and get it back from the "Time Mchine" backup if you got one. Did you ever back-up your system?
It doesn't have to be a recent backyp, any backup from TM or CarbonCopyClone will do the trick. Or copy the entire directory folder of MS 2008 on a flush stick and move it/copy it on a OS X 10.5 machine into the Applications folder like your were before you got the 10.6 upgrade and see if works there. If you don't have the Microsoft 2008 disk or some old backyps or some 10.5 system running you are out of luck. There is no way to reinstall without any of these.

  • Office 2013 will not open unless user is a Domain Admin

In order to get the Office 2013 suite to install from Office 365, I had to make all the users (115 in 4 offices) a domain admin, we then installed the software on everyone's computers and we have migrated our email.  However, I now need
to remove all the users from being a domain admin, but when I do none of Office programs will open, no error message, just a spinning wheel for 10 seconds and nothing.   I need to remove the users from being a domain admin as they can now see
network drives that they were previously restricted from.  All computers are Windows 7 Pro.  I have even installed the suite on a brand new computer, installed as admin, login as a domain user and nothing will open.
    Thanks

What's the default right for the user in your domain, domain user?
Can we open the Office application when the domain user is in local administrator group?
Please turn off all of security programs and 3rd-party programs (Windows clean boot) and then launch Office component, such as Word.exe with safe mode. ("Winword.exe /safe") to check if it opens successful in non-domain user rights.
Don't use Office shortcut to open Office but double click the .exe file under %programfiles%\Microsoft Office to check if the office process appears in Windows Task Manager.
In addition, please go to eventvwr to check if there is any errors regarding to permission or Office exist. If so, post it here for further checking. Thanks.

  • Office Files Will Not Open If Located On A Network Folder

I have installed Office 2010 Professional on a Windows XP SP3 machine. This workstation is a domain member on a SBS 2003 network. My previous version of Office was 2003. When I attempt to open an Excel file that resides in the MyDocuments folder (which on
my SBS 2003 network is re-directed to my server) I get a message from Excel saying "Could not open" with the file name/location following. This happens on files that were originally created with Excel 2003 as well as files created with Excel 2010. I can save
a new file created with Excel 2010 to the network but am not able to open it back up again after closing it. If I go into Windows Explorer and move any Excel file to my C:\ drive I am able to open both 2003 and 2010 Excel files with no problem. This seems
to be related to where the file is located but the settings in Excel 2010 that I tried to adjust did not make it possible for me to open them when they were located on a network drive. What can I do to resolve this to allow me to open files on network (LAN)
    drives?
After doing some more research I have discovered that when logging on with another User account on the same workstation I am able to open files normally with Excel 2010 that reside on the network. This user actually has less permissions than the problem
user account. I currently have just this one workstation with Office 2010 installed so I'm not able to test to see if it is related to the user profile on the workstation.
Any suggestions on where to look would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Chad,
I went through your reply and made the checks/changes that you suggested. So I changed the Reg setting for the Excel registry key and afterwards opened
Excel. Excel opened and I could see the Office splash screen but there was still no animation, just the still Office 2010 graphic with no animation. I checked the folder permissions for the affected user (Me) and they are as follows:
    1.
My Username with all Permission Options Checked
    2.
Administrators with all Permission Options Checked
    3.
Creator Owner with all Permission Options Checked
    4.
Domain Admins with all Permission Options Checked
    5.
Folder Operators with all Permission Options Checked
    6.
System with all Permission Options Checked
I also removed the add ins that were active. I'm still getting the same error message as well as the same error number. I also checked the processes that
run when other users are logged on compared to when I'm logged on thinking maybe something might be causing Office to not be able to see the share folders. Everything was the same for all users of the affected machine. I also logged on locally to the machine
and saved a file made in Office Excel to the My Documents folder (which isn't re-directed for local accounts) and was able to open the file again.
I have worked on the problem workstation most of the evening and just can't come up with a resolution. I appreciate the suggestions you gave Chad. Hopefully
we can find the cause! I'm ready to put this behind me and move on to actually getting to use the new applications!
    Thanks,
    Jeff

  • Office documents will not open in Chrome

I have an end user who can't open up office documents using Chrome it automatically downloads and makes a copy of the file. When I'm browsing our SharePoint site I have no issue opening up office documents with Chrome. Is there a way to fix this issue?
    Info:
    Using Office 2013
    Up-to-date Chrome (37.0.2062.120 m)
    Versioning turned On.
    Thanks

    hi
although MS says that Chrome is supported browser for Sharepoint 2013 (see
Plan browser support in SharePoint 2013), it is not the same level supported as IE. IE was and probably be most native browser for working with Sharepoint, especially related with Office integration. As mentioned in the page with browsers support, opening
Office documents requires OpenDocuments ActiveX control. In Chrome ActiveX is enabled with installing IETab extension like you did, but seems like it is not so compatible with Sharepoint anyway. You may report about this problem on the extension dev page.
Meanwhile you may ask your customer to use IE for editing documents.
