Outlook not responding opening a PDF

We've had this issue with Adobe Reader XI, and Outlook 2010. What happens is when a PDF attachment is opened inm Outlook, Outlook will freeze and crash.
If the user right click the PDF attachment in Outlook and chooses either option of "Preview" or "Save As", the attachments opens fine.
What makes this problem especially hard to solve is that it has not been replicated across all users on the network, just a handful.
Any idea how to troubleshoot...
Regards,

"Freezing" usually indicates that the process is waiting for some resources.  If I encountered such a problem I would try to observe that process (Outlook.exe, AcroRd32.exe) with a tool like Process Monitor.
The output can be huge, so make sure you filter only the processes involved here.

    Before I get to the question I'll give you some info about our arcitecture.
    We have 7 remote sites each with 5mb connections.
    5-10 computer at each site
    We are running exchange 2010 centrally from one server on a 20mb connection.
    All clients are running windows 7 64bit with office 2013
    We recetly upgraded from office 2003 to 2013 when this problem started.
    If a user clicks on an attachment from one of our remote sites, and if the attachment is larger than 150kb the outlook client displays (not responding) for up to two minutes.  If you wait long enough the attachment will open without error.  It
    doesnt matter if its a word docuemnt, PDF, JPG they all respond the same.  There are several active application add-ins running I have not tried to disable  any of them yet.
    Acrobat PDFMaker office com addin
    Lync meeting addin for microsoft office 2013
    microsoft exchange addin
    microsoft sharepoint server colleague import addin
    microsoft vba for outlook addin
    onenote notes about outlook items
    outlook social connector 2013
    symantec endpoint protection outlook addin
    I should also mention theres plenty of bandwidth free at both ends of the pipe.  Moving the same file size accross the network literally takes only takes a second or less.
    How can I go about troubleshootng this issue further?
    Has anyone else experieced this?
    What have you done to fix it?

    Hi,
    According to your description, I understand that all attachments in Outlook are opened slowly since updating Outlook 2003 to 2013. Please confirm whether all users encounter this issue. Also check whether the issue continues in cached mode and in OWA.
    Based on your post, I suggest we can try to disable the following add-ins to check whether the issue persists:
    Acrobat PDFMaker office com addin
    symantec endpoint protection outlook addin
    If there is any updates, please feel free to let us know.
    Thanks,

    Windows 8 Adobe Reader will not fully open a pdf compiled with several pdf's into one - why?

    Hi Michael,
    “AdbeRdr11003_en_US.exe” is the download installed on our CEO’s new Windows 8 laptop.  It is a Dell XPS Re: Windows 8 Adobe Reader will not fully open a pdf compiled with several pdf's into one - why? Dell XPS 13" .  It has a full install Windows 8 Professional for its’ Operating System.
    I’ll attempt to attach the file in question.  The file opens fine on our Windows 7, and XP computers (with  the proper Adobe Reader on each).
    Our CEO says there is a message that comes up saying he needs Adobe Flash.  I’m attempting to find out whether or not he is trying to open it the ‘Metro’ view, or the ‘Desktop’ view – no answer yet.
    If your system strips the attachment, let me know, and I’ll upload the file to an ftp site {if necessary}.

  • Outlook not responding

    My Microsoft Outlook on my computer has never had any problems. Since downloading itunes and trying to sync contacts, Outlook opens and shuts down immediately because "program not responding and needs to close" Anyone else having this problem or know of a solution? Thanks.

    That happened to me when I was trying to use a different profile in Outlook. Havent gone back to figure it out.
    I would suggest removing iTunes, rebooting, and reinstalling it. You can go into Tools, Options, Other, Advanced, COM Add-Ins in Outlook to make sure the two Outlook addins for iTunes are properly installed. You can also go into Help, About, Disabled Items in Outlook to see if Outlook has disabled any of the iTunes addins.

  • Not responding - open a project in MSP pro 2010

    I use MSP Pro 2010 with Project server 2010. When opening a project using "in Project Professional" option - it shows "Microsoft Project - Project1 (Not responding)", no error message and hangs. However, in PWA "Assignment details"
    and "Resource Summary" view are working, all other views display "The view failed to load. Press OK to reload..." message. No sub-project is used.
    Any ideas on how to fix this project to open in MS Project Pro? What would be the SQL query to see all resources for that project?
    ds

    Hi,
    Do you have this unexpected behavior for all projects or just this one?
    Can you try on another machine?
    Can you try opening the project will PWA, check it out, publish it and check it in again?
    I've seen many corruption issues solved simply by opening the project with PWA.

  • Word Document not converting/opening to pdf correctly

    Please help, I'm so frustrated and don't know what to do.
    I made a word document. The document is of raffle tickets so it has numbers on them. The numbers are perfect until I try to convert the document into a pdf file. When I try to convert the word document and save it as a .pdf and it opens in Acrobat it changes the numbering on the tickets. It not only changes the numbering on the tickets in the pdf file but it also changes the numbering in the original word document.
    The different ways I've tried to open the document in Acrobat is: I went to file, save as, and changed the file type from .docx to .pdf. That didn't work. I also tried to do file, save and send, create pdf/xps. That also didn't work.
    Please tell me there is a way that I can preserve the formatting on this document once it is saved as a .pdf file. I keep hitting brick walls. I also had the idea of opening it in Acrobat Professional but for some reason that won't download to my computer so please don't offer that as a solution.
    Thanks for any help anyone can give!

    Thanks guys so much for the replies! It means a lot. Here is a link to the file.
    Shared Files - Acrobat.com
    I'm not so sure I truly converted the file. I created the document in word and then opened the file in Acrobat using the save as a .pdf option. I don't know if that means its truly converted or not.
    I'll try a different font and see. Thanks.
    "How does it not download; do you get any error messages?  What is your operating system?"
    I tried to update my Creative Cloud app and before it finished my computer did something weird and shut down. (or maybe the update caused my computer to restart?) Then when I started my computer again, Creative Cloud would not open anymore nor would it update again nor could I download or install Acrobat Pro. My operating system is Windows 7 64 bit.

  • Microsoft office and Outlook not responding at launch

    Hello.
    I have a brand new macbook pro running OS X version 10.8.2 and have just downloaded the Microsoft office 2011 package including Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook and Lync.
    Microsoft Word crashes at launch every time I try to load it.  It simply freezes at the welcome screen and appears to be loading indefinately.
    Instead of a welcome screen, the top bar of microsoft outlook loads and then freezes in a similar fashion.
    Excel, powerpoint and Lync seem to work fine.
    One other thing, the microsoft programs fail to load if another microsoft program is already running - is this normal behavior?!
    Help appreciated!
    Cheers.
    Joe.

  • Page Not Responding (Streaming PDF)

    I'm not sure if this is related to my code or just the app I'm customizing, but here is the problem.
    I'm using FOP (Apache's Formatting Object's Processor) XML Graphics project.
    In any case, I'm creating this PDF on the fly and then streaming it back to the client as application/pdf. The PDF opens properly. However, the buttons on the page do not respond once the PDF opens. The page in question is part of a frameset, so when I hit the F5 (Refresh) button, all frames reload and the app responds as expected.
    Here is some of the code:
    XSLTInputHandler input = new XSLTInputHandler(new InputSource(new ByteArrayInputStream(myXML.getBytes("UTF-8"))), new InputSource(xsltStream));
    ByteArrayOutputStream out = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    Logger log = new ConsoleLogger(ConsoleLogger.LEVEL_DEBUG);
    MessageHandler.setScreenLogger(log);
    Driver driver = new Driver();
    driver.setLogger(log);
    driver.setRenderer(Driver.RENDER_PDF);
    driver.setOutputStream(out);
    input.run(driver);
    HttpServletResponse response = (HttpServletResponse)getPageContext().getResponse();
    response.setContentType("application/pdf");
    response.addHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=Report.pdf");
    byte[] content = out.toByteArray();
    response.setContentLength(content.length);
    response.getOutputStream().write(content);
    response.getOutputStream().flush();
    response.getOutputStream().close();Any one has any thoughts on this?

    it seems that once I call flush(), I no longer have a page, even though I can see it. I can't even view source for the page. I can, off course, refresh the page, then everything start working again...

  • Attempt to open a PDF with Adobe Reader fails

    I am using Adobe Reader X and have been having problems where double clicking on the PDF file does not automatically open the PDF file. Sometimes it will open it and on those days I will have no problem. Other days it just seems to refuse to open the PDF and I see several instances of AcroRd32.exe showing in Task Manager taking up varying degrees of memory. I tried to fix the problem by running the "repair my install", but that ended up breaking my only workaround which was to launch the Adobe Reader and then select the PDF file I wanted to open.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

    I had the same problem just now and what worked for me was i archived a email in MS outlook using the Adopbe PDF dropdown menu and then I had full access to X Pro again.
    Hope that this helps

  • Anyone know how open "secured" pdf's downloaded and saved?

    Adobe X freezes and shows "Not Responding" when attempting to open some saved pdf's.  Noticed that the pdf's which won't open show "Secured" next to the file name in the upper left corner.  These will open while still online, but cannot open the saved file later.  Windows 7.

    An example of a "Secured" pdf can be found at: www.envisionreports.com/XOM/2011/08605JA11E/default.htm?voting=false.  Choose to download the Notice of Annual Meeting file.  It will open while on line.  But when saved to my computer, Adobe X will not open the file.  In the file name field, it indicates "Secured" and "Adobe Reader Not Responding".  Other pdf's that do not show "Secured" open with no problem.  Don't recall this to have been an issue in earlier versions of Adobe Reader.

  • I cannot open any PDF's in Internet Explorer

    Starting just a few days ago, I can no longer open PDF files in Internet Explorer (IE 9). I'm not sure, but this could have started when I upgraded from Reader X 10.1.5 to 10.1.6.
    I can open PDF's fine in Firefox 19.0, just not Internet Explorer. I have tried numerous suggestions that I found in this forum and elsewhere:
    Turned off popup blocker.
    Changed the Internet option in Adobe Reader's preferences to both open PDF's in the browser and not to open the PDF in the browser. Neither option works.
    Tried running Internet Explorer in Compatiilty View for the websites where I am trying to view the PDF files.
    There was a suggestion to clear the Internet Explorer cache. I could not find that option (cache) under the Setting for IE. The closest thing I found was Temporary Internet Files, so I deleted them.
    I uninstalled Adobe Reader and installed an earlier version (10.1.4).
    I made sure that the plugin/extention 'Adobe PDF Helper' was enabled.
    None of the above has helped. I'm just about out of ideas. The fact that I can still open PDF's using Firefox makes this less than an emergency, but I would really like to get this resolved.
    I had some trouble searching this forum (Adobe Reader) thoroughly, so if there is another post out there that has some solutions (other than the 6 items I already tried) please fell free to post a link to it.
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    I just thought I would add some information (albeit vague) on how I solved this problem. I had another computer (laptop) that was not experiencing this problem. I compared the IE settings on the laptop with the IE settings on my desktop and changed all the settings on the desktop to match the laptop. I then restarted IE on my desktop and was able to open PDF files! Since it was working for me, I didn't go back and try to figure out which of the changed settings led to the solution to the problem. If enough people on the forum request it, I will try to go back and isolate the pertinent settings.

  • My imessage is not responding

    I have a Macbook Pro
    I can't seem to open imessage on my mac. Whenever I press it to open all there are no windows opening and it is just not responding/opening
    if anyone knows how to fix this pls let me know

    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
              SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
    from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • Adobe pdf printer save dialog box opens in the background - progress bar shows Not Responding

    I have two users who have Acrobat X Pro version 10.1.4 that are experiencing the same things.  First, one person just changed laptops and the new one has a fresh Windows 7 Enterprise X64 image and new installation of Adobe Acrobat X Pro.  When he used the pdf printer for the first time(after opening the program and accepting the license agreement) he was in MS Excel '07 and chose file>print>Adobe PDF and then the progress bar came up and then showed not responding.  After he did this a couple of times with me standing there I noticed that the save dialog box was opening in the background because I could see the icon blinking on the taskbar.  He said that his old computer never did this and that it would always open up and ask where to save the file and never show 'not responding' on the progress bar.  The other person having the same issue is running the same version but she has had the program installed on her machine for a few months and an older version on before that.
    Is there a way to make the dialog box show as soon as you print to the Adobe PDF printer?  What is causing this?  Is there another way to create a pdf from MS Office like the add-on?
