Outlook ost can't be opened

ost size near 20GB. repair and delete ost can't fixed the problem.
Is it normal? or outlook connector have problem.
THanks.
john

An ost-file is merely a cache of an online Exchange or Hotmail mailbox. If you delete it, the cache will be rebuild.
The default limit of an ost-file is 20GB in Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007 and 50GB in Outlook 2010. To increase, see;
http://www.msoutlook.info/question/99
However, depending on your system specifications, performance might degrade. Additionally, you might want to consider cleaning up your mailbox. For an effective and reasonably quick approach see;

    I copied a link to my web form to ms outlook recipients.  They cannot open the link.

  • R12: Attachments on Custom Notification can not be opened by Outlook

    Hello Everyone,
    We have customize the approval workflow for Oracle Project Costing. In this customization we have included a notification that handles the attachments the user may have attach to the financial plan. The issue with the personalization is that the attachments can not be opened from MS Outlook. If we try to open it directly from the work list of EBS, they are opened without a problem. Definitely we are missing something because the standard notification for requisitions that includes attachments works fine and it pop up the login page for the user to enter his user and password. Please help us. This is very important because the VP's of the company and the CEO do not want to open the application, they only want to use the Email Client.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards.

    is he able to access the task list if you give him the url to it directly.  Have you tried his access whilst removing the Outlook email from the troubleshooting.

  • IMac can no longer open .jpg .jpeg & other media files sent from PC?

    I can no longer open .jpg photos & media files sent to my iMac from my wife's PC through Outlook email. I get an error message saying the item cannot be opened. All other recipients have no trouble opening these attachments. We have tried numerous fixes suggested by Apple chat sites but to no avail. I suspect an OS update around December 2010 has caused this problem on not just our machine but thousands of other iMac users & Apple is ignoring it. Why isn't Apple addressing this huge issue?

    Likely, because there are millions of Mac users, and not everyone is experiencing this issue.   Until it happens to all Mac users with a specific system, it will be very difficult to isolate the cause.
    You can sign up for a free online developer account:
    http://developer.apple.com/
    And you can post here your bug report:
    http://bugreporter.apple.com/
    Attachments may need to be encoded a specific way with Outlook to be readable by Mac OS X Mail.
    You can also try reading those messages with Thunderbird, or another Mac e-mail client.  To find other Mac e-mail clients, search the software search engines here*:

  • Outlook 2010 gives error when opening a PowerPoint attachment.

    Outlook 2010 gives error when opening a PowerPoint attachment.
    Hi All,
    We have several VIP employees that are getting the following error on all PowerPoint documents that come as attachments from Outlook.
    I have researched and tried the following steps and verified these settings are already applied.
    I did find a work around but not a fix and our security team will NOT allow me to change this setting however if I uncheck the setting all employees can open the outlook attachment.
    Any other ideas on a fix for this if I am unable to uncheck Enable Protected View.

    Hi Matthew,
    This is a perennial problem, here is a thread which has a deep discussion about this issue:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/07f710a5-a6ca-4256-8f27-6aac41a6b37e/outlook-2010-unable-to-open-word-excel-and-power-point-attachments-from-an-email?forum=outlook
    It looks like nobady really find a solution there, the only workaround is what you have found - change the protected view setting in Trust Center. You will lose some security by doing this but it seems to be the only solid solution currently.

    Error code: MobileMe Services has encountered a problem and needs to close
    I get this mesage everytime i open Outlook and it slows down opening. This problem started when itunes updated. What do I do to solve this?

    Hi turingtest2 (you pass, BTW):  Thanks for the speedy reply.  MobileMe doesn't appear in the list of programs which can be uninstalled.  I tried the link you suggest: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall but when I tried to "Run Now", I get the error message:  " Troubleshooting cannot continue because an error has occurred... etc.... • Why can I not open any .mbox folders?

    If I go to my Home > Library > Mail and then try to open the INBOX.mbox or Sent Messages.mbox folders I can't. In fact the icon for these files is a document. When I double click on the xxxx.mbox I get a message saying there is no default application to open the xxxx.mbox.
    I should be able to open the INBOX.mbox and see my emails saved as individual files, which can be read by TextEdit.
    I'm not having any problems with Mail, I'm just curious to know what is going on. My hunch is that my emails and settings originally came from OS9 (Outlook Express) then 10.3 (Mail) and now 10.5 and maybe something has gone wrong during these transitions?
    Thanks

    Hello
    Yes, I understand each mail account will have it's own Deleted, Draft, Inbox, Junk and Sent mailboxes. I also understand where my user created mailboxes are.
    I have created a couple of new user created mailboxes. I can see them in my Home/Library/Mail/Mailboxes but even these new mailboxes can not be opened like a folder, my Mac is treating them like a document which can not be opened by any application (I've tried TextEdit and Word).
    My hunch is...
    Years ago I was using Outlook Express on OS 9. I then updated to OS 10.3 and Mail. I had big problems getting my email from Outlook into Mail and the new OS. I have recently upgraded to OS 10.5. My hunch is that something has gone wrong with this process and the new capabilities of Mail in OS 10.5 are not working i.e. in OS 10.3 emails were not saved as individual xxxx.emix files.
    Mail is working fine, but I would feel a lot safer if the mailboxes were behaving as they should. The question is, what do I do?

  • Why I get CRC error when copying outlook.ost file?

    My workstation is using NTFS, Outlook 2007 with Exchange 2007 server.
    My outlook.ost file is 1.7GB.
    As my Outlook runs into problem, I tried to copy the outlook.ost file to another location for repair, but I keep getting CRC errors and the file was not copied.
    I also tried to use winrar to compress it and it runs into the same CRC error.
    Q#1. What causes this CRC error? hard disk error or software?
    Q#2. How to repair such CRC error?
    Thanks.

    Hi Peter,
    The cyclic redundancy check, or “CRC” error, indicates a bad spot/corruptions within the file that you are trying to copy and in lot of cases with your hard disk.
    To make sure if the problem is with the .ost file or your hard disk, you can fire up a Command Prompt window, and then copy the file to NUL:
    C:>CD (path of your .ost file)
    C:(path of your .ost file)>copy name.ost NUL
    If this succeeds, the problem is with your .ost file. If this fails, it should be a hardware based disk issues.
    If it's an issue with your .ost file, I'd suggest to run
    scanpst.exe tool to repair your data file, then check if this fixed it.
    When the issue is hardware based, you probably need to find Disk Errors in the System log of your Event Viewer. You can access the Event Viewer by going to:
    Control Panel-> Administrative Tools-> Event Viewer
    By the way, .ost file is actually a local copy of your mail items on the server. For a corrupted .ost file, you actually don't need to "copy the outlook.ost file to another location for repair". You can simply rename it to .ost.old
    or delete it, and then re-launch Outlook to let it generate a new .ost file from server.

  • Online Archive folder can't be opened after migration into Exchang2013

    Online Archive folder can't be opened after migration from Exchaneg 2010 to Exchange 2013.
    Windows8.1 MS office 2013, Exchange 2013, Online mode
    error: Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. Microsoft Exchange is not available. Either there are network problems or the Exchange server is down for maintenance.
    Is there any solution about this issue?

    Select it and open the Info dialog. In the Sharing & Permissions section, you should have read & write access, and everyone (else) should have read access. If that's not the case, click the lock icon, authenticate, and make the necessary changes. Close the window and try again.

  • Outlook 2010 - User tends to open many emails at a go but this may slow down the machine.

    Hi,
    My user tends to have this work habit of opening 8-10 emails at one go. She view this way of working as more efficient and faster. But this means that if outlook crashed, all the emails will be close as well, and this way of working tends to slow down the
    machine.
    Is there any way Outlook can users to open multiple emails without hording CPU page milage?
    Thank you.

    Hi Josh,
    Slow Outlook can be also harmful for your database and there are numbers of factor which slow down the MS-Outlook like:
    * Third Party Plug-ins
    * Slow internet connection
    * Antivirus/ Firewall Programs
    * Corruption or Error within Outlook
    So always try to open Microsoft Outlook in safe mode whenever you stuck in such problems.
    How to optimize Outlook performance:
    * By Disabling add-ins
    * Check default account settings
    * Disabling Scanning programs
    * Scanpst.exe (Inbox Repair Tool)

  • Why can't I open my PDF's?

    Why can't I open my PDF's?

    Beats me. Can you tell us any more about it? Some of the things you might want to share include:
    - your version of Adobe Reader or other PDF software?
    - any message you get (exactly, in full)?
    - your system (e.g. Windows 7, Mac OS Lion)?
    - if you're running another app (e.g. Outlook, Chrome) what is it?

  • The application Finder.app can't be opened. (-600)

    ...After updating to 10.8.2. Anybody else?.

    Bob's solution was no solution for me, probably because after trashing those 2 PLISTs I decided to follow critichu's advice of relaunching the Finder rather than logging out or restarting.
    Let's face it.  When I have these Finder problems, I can always solve them by restarting.  But the reason I came to this forum in the first place was to find out how to prevent this from either happening again or solve it quickly so I don't need to logout or restart.
    What seems to cause Finder problems for me on a regular basis is my Time Capsule, which is connected to my 10.8.4 DuoCore iMac via Gigabit Ethernet (and shared in our office).  For whatever reason, while I am in the midst of copying files to/from the Time Capsule, the Finder will lockup with spinning beachball forever.  I have experienced this often in Adobe Illustrator too.  When saving a file from Illustrator to my Time Capsule, my entire Mac locks up and I am forced to restart.
    Anyway, the problem I have today was not caused by a document save to Time Capsule in Illustrator, but by merely copying files from my Time Capsule to my desktop.  The Finder locked up, so I tried to kill it and relaunch.  It wouldn't relaunch.  So I then started quitting all my open apps (including Illustrator and Outlook), and then mysteriously the Finder launched.
    Strangeness began though when I clicked on the Downloads folder sitting in my Dock.  I always choose "Show in Finder" when I right-click on that folder in my Dock.  But this time when I do that, I get a "Finder can't be opened" error -600.  But the Finder is already open!  However, when I hit Opt-CMD-ESC, I see two instances of the Finder in the dialog!  But in Activity Monitor, I only see one instance of the Finder.  And quitting that instance (which quits the Finder visually), still leaves one open instance inside the "Force Quit Applications" dialog!
    Yes, I've tried "killall Finder" in the Terminal, but that just gives me the following error:
    No matching processes belonging to you were found
    Is there really no rememdy for this other than to Logout or Restart?  Surely there must be.  This is getting quit painful.
    I'm also unsure when this started. I think I was still having this problem even under Lion, although exclusively in Illustrator (when saving to my Time Capsule), rather than in the Finder.
    I'm baffled.

  • How to recover outlook ost error messages?

    my outlook ost files does not work what i do? How to access my outlook ost file again any please gives any solutions to easily access and convert ost file into outlook?

    First of all, I just wonder what is your meaing of "does not work", whether you can still access the data in the OST file, but get some error messages, or you cannot access the data at all? Based on different cases, you should use different solutions and
    will save you a lot of time and money.
    Without mor specific information, I have to give out general advices here:
    There are several methods to convert OST file to PST file.
    First, Microsoft does not provide an official tool to do the conversion. However, if you can access the contents of the OST file in your Outlook, then you can perform the conversion manually, as follows:
    1. Start Outlook. Make sure you can access all the contents in the OST file to be converted.
    2. Create a new PST file.
    3. Go to the OST file, select and copy all the contents to be converted with your mouse.
    4. Go back to the new PST file, then paste all the contents into the PST file
    That will do the conversion.
    You can also perform the conversion by export the contents of the OST file to a PST file by following the instructions at:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/outlook-help/export-outlook-items-to-an-outlook-data-file-pst-HA102534110.aspx
    Second, if you can access the Exchange server containing the account data for the OST file, then you can use Export-Mailbox command to export the data into a PST file, similar to convert your OST file into a PST file. Below is the article about doing that:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb266964.aspx
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc535123.aspx
    Third, if you cannot access the OST file via Outlook, neither can you access the Exchange Server, then you can refer to Outlook MVPs' website discussing about this issue:
    http://www.slipstick.com/problems/pst-repair/convert-an-exchange-offline-file-ost-to-a-personal-file-pst/
    Forth, there are many third-party OST to PST conversion tools you can try, below is a list of them:
    http://www.datanumen.com/exchange-recovery/compare.htm
    Nearly all these tools provide a free trial so you can try first to see if a tool works before purchase it.
    Good luck!
