Outlook problems connecting to Exchange server

I am using client version 5.0, PIX 506e and Microsoft IAS to vpn into a corporate network. Once connected some users have problems with their Outlook unable to connect to the Exchange server. Trying to figure out if I need to make a configuration change, or if a Microsoft issue. Thanks.

The problem could be because of MTU sizing. Reduce the MTU sizing of the tunnel on both ends till the end users do not face any such connectivity problems. Packet reassembly and fragementation are some of the main causes for connectivity loss.

  • Problem connecting to exchange server - Outlook 365

Hi I am a user of Exchange 365, have just got a new Surface Pro 2 128gb through work and am piloting it for the company.
I can't for the life of me get Outlook to recognise the exchange server and set up mail for my work address.
It tells me that an encrypted connection to the server is unavailable, and then when I am forced to enter in the server details manually it tells me that "The connection to msoft exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete
    this action
In the meantime I have to use the 365 web app. This is really frustrating me!
I've tried reinstalling multiple times. Can someone please help?

    Hi
Thanks this has helped me solve the problem.
I used the Outlook Anywhere connectivity tester you suggested. Selected Outlook autodiscover.
It told me that it could not resolve things on any of the 4 tests.
I saw that using the last test "Attempting to contact the Autodiscover service using the DNS SRV redirect method", was the only one likely to work in my case.
I had already changed 3 entries in dns to point at my DDNS address but this had not worked, from the errors I could see that it was just the certificate name not matching so I changed the DNS entries for Autodiscover, autoconfig and _autodiscover._tcp
to be webmail.domain.com which is a CNAME to my ddns address for the broadband router, which in turn forwards ports 80 and 443 to the exchange server for owa and activesync access. I got an error message saying that I had an illegal entry in my SRV record
as a CNAME is not allowed, but it saved the change anyway.
I reran the test and it worked.I can now make new outlook clients attach teo exchange.
Thank you, after 8 hours yesterday of trying to reolve this I suddnely got it to work on one laptop but the other still would not and had lost track of what I could have changed so had no idea what actually made it work.
    Thank you for your suggestion.

  • Need help with Outlook 2013 connecting to Exchange server(2010)

    Hi
I need help with Outlook 2013 and with my exchange server(2010) email account
After setting up account initially emails come in and than after an hour or two stop. My OWA is working fine with no issues. I have even created a forward rule in OWA to my GMAIL account whch works fine
However Outlook 2013 is not syncing messages, have difficulty in sending emails sometimes as it takes too long.  In fact the connection also is intermittent. Even if the task bar shows connected to exchange, it seems that is not the case since new emails
and any emails I compose dont work.  I have trouble shot the issue with my ISP and email service provide, but they havent resolved the issue  I have also done a TraceRoute and that shows no drops or problems to he exchange server.
Can someone please help me resolve this matter so I can continue to use Outlook 2013( running Windows 8.1) in both my computers which have the identical problem
Look forward to a solution soon
    Thanks

    Hi Angela
    Thanks for your message
To answer your questions, please note the following
    a) My account is set up in Cache Mode( not online mode)
    b) I am the only other user on the account
    c) When the connection to the exchange server is broken, I see upon clicking connection tab that there is no information in the box, and when I press reconnect it starts showing "connecting"
    d) When the connection to the server is there, it shows  connection as "established"
    e) Sorry I dont understand th meaning of CAS array in your environment?  Can you pls explain
Since yday I have been using Outlook 2010 on desktop and Outlook 2013 on my laptop using Exchange 2013 account.  So far all emails are syncing, and I can send emails from both computers. However, I am concerned that the connection can break-off anytime,
as it has done that in the past on both outlook versions.  The max time it has worked without any problem is 48 hrs and than after that the same issue of not connection, not syncing and unable to send emails happens
My ISP has checked and there is no network connectivity issues. My email service provider has trouble shot the issue many times, but to no positive results.  I have also changed the profile a few times, but the intermittent connectivity problem hasn't
    been resolved.
Can you identify the possible causes and more importantly a working permanent solution please
    Thanks
    Mahesh

  • Problems connecting to exchange server

My ipad2 was connecting fine to the exchange server a few days ago, and now it has stopped. I have been through all of the discussions and tried everything outside of a hard reset.
Other iPhone & iPad users in my corp are having no issues connecting. I know the server, domain, username, and password are correct.
I am getting the "unable to verify account information" . Makes no sense why it just stopped?! I am so frustrated and nothing seems to be working.
    Please help!

    Hi,
For info. VPN Client 5.0.02.0090 has the following resolved issue stated in the readme-file:
    Resolved Issues:

It's the opposite of your problem but might be worth a try anyway?

  • Outlook connection to exchange server problem

We have a new domain and an existing exchange server. The problem is if i log in with a local computer account i can autodiscover and connect in cached mode to exchange no problem. If i then login with a domain user account the same computer (tried on other
workstations) will fail to auto discover, fail to connect to exchange even with manual settings. I cant find anything obvious in Group policy.
The server is setup with the latest 2013 Group policy templates with office 2013 templates
Users not logged in with the new AD server can connect to exchange
Users not logged into the domain can access exchange server
My feeling is its a local setting that is missing or needs to be changed in Group Policy but i am at a loss as to what it could be
I have disabled roaming profiles too and it makes no difference.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Steve

    Hi,
Sorry for my delay. According to your description, I summarize your issue to the following points:
    1. No problem when the user logs in Outlook with a local computer account in Cached mode.
    2. Can’t connect to Exchange from an cache mode enabled Outlook 2013 client when using a domain user account on the same computer automatically or manually.
    3. Can connect to Exchange from an online mode enabled Outlook 2013 client when using a domain user account on the same computer automatically or manually.
It is right? If I misunderstand, please feel free to point it out. Additionally, I noticed that the server is setup with the latest 2013 Group policy templates with office 2013 templates. Please confirm
if the Outlook cache mode is disabled by OTC or GPO. If there is following registry key applied on the machine:
    Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Cached Mode
Meanwhile, please try to install an Outlook 2013 with a fresh ISO file(Don’t use any template such as OCT template), see if the Cached mode Outlook can connect to Exchange server.
    Waiting for your updates.

  • Outlook Mac Loses Connection to Exchange Server

    Hi All,
I've had this problem pretty since deployment a couple of weeks ago, so I'm hoping some one can point me in the right direction.  I'm running Exchange 2013 on a Server 2012 Standard box with the DC running on a different box, every thing up to date.
Mac clients running Outlook 2011 (14.4.2).
Periodically throughout the day, Outlook loses connection to Exchange server.  After several minutes, it will connect back up, and seems to operate normally.  During the down time, I am able to connect to OWA, and ActiveSync seems to work as well.
If I run the Remote Connectivity Analyzer while Outlook is responding, I get no errors and the "Connectivity Test Successful" message.  However, if I run it while Outlook is NOT responding, I get the following:
Exchange Web Services synchronization, notification, availability, and Automatic Replies.
Not all tests of Exchange Web Services tasks completed.
Creating a temporary folder to perform synchronization tests.
Failed to create temporary folder for performing tests.

Nothing I've attempted to do so far as had any meaningful impact, and I am fairly new to Exchange.
Following the adice I've seen online so far, I've:
I've made sure the auto discover in DNS points to the Exchange server.
I've disable auto-discover on the client, manually adding accounts, tried using their FQDN, local IP, LAN IP.
I've made exceptions to the proxie on the client.
Just not sure where to look next?  Appreciate any advice out there.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Before we go further, I'd like to confirm if your Outlook clients can work well when your Outlook MAC clients come across the issue.
If the issue only happens on your Outlook MAC clients, we can check the IIS log and confirm if there is any error releted to EWS. And you can recreate your EWS virtual directory to have a test.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
According to your description, users cannot connect to Exchange server 2013 both internal and external.
Please run Test E-mail AutoConfiguration in Outlook to check your autodiscover service. Also
reset your Exchange virtual directory to connect correctly. If the issue still continues after all configurations are setting properly, collect some Event logs would be helpful.
If there is any question, please post the results here for further analysis.

  • Outlook 2007 on XPsp2 OEM unable to connect to Exchange Server 2003??

    Hi
My outlook 2007 came part and package of the Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise Edition, and our SBS server runs Exchange 2003.
After setting up the connection in Outlook to connect too Exchange (when clicking test (check name) on configuration it is successful) --
The Error Message is so upon start up :
Cannot Open your Default e-mail Folders, You must connect to microsoft exchange with the current user profile before you can synchronize your folders with your offline folder file..
When disabling the cached exchange mode the error message changes however, but it is still unable too actually open outlook.
Cannot open your default E-Mail Folders. The Attempt too log on to the exchange server failed... (after in the configuration the test suceeded.)
The computer has a fresh copy of XP SP2 OEM, as well as Microsoft Outlook, only other software on is SQL server 2000 (All microsoft Updates installed). The active user is domain controlled and has the same credentials as is used by Exchange.
After selecting the checkbox under Control Panel -> Mail -> ......... "User Identification" -> Always prompt for login credentials no change is made to this error....
I then disabled the use of offline folders..... "could not open your default email folders. The information store could not be opened"
Please provide assistance in any way possible.... ASAP as well if possible.
    Thanks a lot
    Marc

    GedMarc,
I had all the same problems you had, and did the exact same things you did to no avail.
This is what solved my problem:

    1.
Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2.
Locate and then click the following subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\RPC
    3.
On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
    4.
Type DefConnectOpts, and then press ENTER.
    5.
Right-click DefConnectOpts, and then click Modify.

  • Cannot connect to an Exchange account in Outlook 2013 using "Microsoft Exchange Server or Compatible Service"

    Dear All,
I cannot connect to my Exchange account in Outlook 2013 using "Microsoft Exchange Server or Compatible Service".
    First I would like to present my network environment, I have 4 physical servers;
The first one is holding the Domain Controller 1, IP@: 192.168.1.10
The second server is holding the additional Domain Controller which it is DC2, IP@: 192.168.1.11
The third server is holding the Exchange 2013 Mailbox, IP@: 192.168.1.15
And the last server is holding the Exchange 2013 CAS-HT, IP@: 192.168.1.16
I am doing the steps below:
1-Creating a new profile in outlook and start configuring the exchange account by entering the IP address of the Exchange-CAS Server, 192.168.1.16
2-entering the account name: [email protected]
3-Go to "More Settings" > "Connection" > "Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP" > and entering the "Exchange Proxy Settings"
4-type the exchange CAS Server URL, https://192.168.1.16
5-Check the "Connect using SSL Only"
6-Authentication Settings: "NTLM Authentication", and pressing Apply
7-When I press the "Check Name" button, a message occurred> "The action cannot be completed. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action".
8-I go back to the "Exchange Proxy Settings" and I Uncheck the "Connect using SSL Only" and pressing Apply
9-i press the "Check Name" Button, a small window occurred to enter a Username and Password, so I enter the Administrator username and the administrator password and pressing "OK", but nothing is changed, I tried to enter my
username and password in the small window and I still got the same result.
I cannot verify the account name and I cannot complete the process.
    I appreciate you kind assistance.

    Hi,
To narrow down the cause, I’d like to recommend the following troubleshooting:
    1. Try to login the test account through OWA.
    2. Check the Autodiscover settings: get-clientaccessserver |fl autodiscoverserviceinternaluri
    3. Check the result of directly accessing the following URL:
    https://autodiscover.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml

  • Problem in connecting to exchange server

I have generated a certificate as specified in the link http://www.dylanbeattie.net/docs/openssl_iis_ssl_howto.html. It generates an X.509 certificate. I installed this certificate on pop3 server on Microsoft exchange server. I also installed the certificate on client m/c. On client m/c, a Java application is running, which tries to read mails from exchange server using SSL. But this exception occurs when I run my java application:

It seems I am unable to connect to exchange server using this certificate. While I also tried a free trial certificate from thawte, that worked fine. Could u help resolving my problem?
    Thanks

Peddard, you will have to be more specific on your settings. It's important to note that the iPhone's host name entry must resolve both internally and externally if it's going to work correctly. So, on your internal DNS server, you must make a mail entry with the same name as what you are publishing externally. In my case, mail.domainname.com is registered on our external DNS server with a public IP address. On the internal DNS server, mail.domainname.com registers to a 192.168.x.x address.
However, you can find in another post that in my situation, the iPhone would not work correctly on our LAN. It worked everywhere else but the issue seems to be that when on the Edge network and the LAN, there is conflicting DNS resolution. This was intermittent and unreliable at best.
Our workaround was to create a second network, simply wirelessly with a couple of Airport Extreme Base stations on a separate external IP address. Now, DNS resolved to the external address and it works like a charm. Not a fix, but a workaround.

  • Outlook 2013 not connect with Exchange server 2013 in internal network

    Hello All,
I Have two Exchange server 2013 in our environment. Both server install mailbox and CAS role. After configure exchange server 2013, Outlook 2013 not connect in internal network. I have configure outlook manually. i tried by using the suggestion from blog
but not work. Outlook show that Server cannot connect/ server name could not be resolved. in outlook setting i also put exchange proxy setting. In exchange admin center i have changed the OWA, OAB, Auto discover name. But still not work.
I know that outlook can be connect from external by using ssl certificate and publish outlook anywhere but i did my configure from internal network.
Can you please suggest as soon as possible.
    Thanks,
    Parvez

    Hi,
Firstly, I’d like to explain, same with external users, internal users use Outlook Anywhere to connect with Exchange server and use Autodiscover get all settings.
Thus, let’s try the following resolutions:
    1. run the following command: get-clientaccessservice |fl autodiscoverserviceinternaluri
    2. check if the host name in the above URL is in the DNS server and there is a DNS entry about the host name points to the proper IP address.
    3. Check if the above host name is in your certificate.
    Thanks,
    Angela

  • Nokia E 61 - Connecting To Exchange Server

We have just bought a Nokia E61 and are attempting to setup a connection to an Outlook Mailbox on our Exchange Server. The server uses digital certificates to authenticate and it is this that appears to be causing us a problem. So far we have been unable to over come this problem.
    Any ideas ??

It blanks out, shows me apple logo for about 20 seconds, and then asks me to choose Language, Country etc.  Same prompts that you get when you install iOS first time requiring me to connect to apple server to activate the phone. When you are done with everything your phone is as good as new
I have tried restoring it from iTunes multiple times, but it doesnt work. Sad, I cant downgrade to iOS 5.

  • SAP PI Connection Microsoft Exchange Server (Scenario Mail -- SAP PI -- File)

    Hi experts,
we want to connect Microsoft Exchange Server to SAP PI. POP3 and IMAP4 is not allowed on mail server side.
But the standard mail adapter in SAP PI  (configured as sender communication channel) only works with POP3 and IMAP4.
Can anyone help me to solve this problem
    Thank you for your help.
    Mario

    Hi Priyadshini,
The way that you have developed your java program can be different that the way that SAP did it. With pop3 in PI, as far as i know, it is no possible to change the read/delete properties that the mail server has by default, as Amit and Ilya mentioned you should try with the imap solution or to talk to the mail server administrators.
Are you sure that the messages is being deleted?, have you checked other mail folders in the user account?, may be the message is being moved.
    Regards.
