Outlook Sync won't close in iTunes 8.1

I've found 8.1 to be a huge improvement as 7 used to regularly cause my computer to freeze up entirely. But I am having difficulty with the sync.
The sync itself works fine, but after syncing is complete and I close iTunes/unplug iPhone, the Outlook sync process and the iTunes Helper.exe won't shut down, even via task manager. I have to restart my computer to get it to stop, then everything is fine until the next sync. It's not a questoin of giving it time as last night I left it running to see if it just took a while to shut down. This morning they were both still running.
The strange thing is I'm not even using anything Outlook related with iTunes. I sync to Safari 4 for bookmarks but all my contacts/calendar/mail are done directly on the iPhone using the google exchange push, so there's no reason for the sync to Outlook to be running at all.
Any ideas on why this is happening and how to stop it please?

I have searched high and low for the right solution for this issue.  I'm on an HP Envy laptop, running iTunes 12, and just upgraded to Windows 8.1.
I tried the settings for bit rate as suggested above and it still didn't work, but I did solve the problem.
In iTunes I went to Preferences > Playback > Play Audio Using ... and changed the setting from "Direct Sound" to "Windows Audio Session"
Now my iTunes on my laptop works!

  • Outlook won't close with iTunes 10 Addin

    Hey Guy's
since I updated to iTunes 10 (on two pc's) my Outlook 2007 won't close completely. There is always a grey Outlook icon in the statusbar and I have to close it with the taskmanager. If I deactivate the Outlook Change Notifier (an iTunes Addin) my Outlook will work fine. Is there anybody else with this problem? Any solution? I'm using Windows 7 64bit.

I'm having a similar problem - since I updated to iTunes 10, my Outlook 2007 just isn't working properly. When I close Outlook, it doesn't compeltely close. Like you, I have the grey Outlook icon in the status bar and have to close it (which probably isn't doing wonders for the .pst file) Disabling the Change Notifier doesn't seem to make any difference. Also when I actually have Outlook open, my messages are not being sent or received correctly - it seems to just sit there saying receiving message X of X and doesn't do anything else.

  • Outlook won't close when iTunes Com Add-in is checked

I had a problem with Outlook not closing and figured out that if I unchecked the iTunes Com Add-in it would close properly. Now everytime I open iTunes it adds the Com Add-in back into the (Tools, Com Add-in) I even tried removing it but it always comes back, does anyone know a final fix to this?

Sorry, no anwser - but I have exactly the same problem, and really thought, that more people will have it, too...
To be maybe a bit more precise: It SEEMS like Oulooks closes, but there is still the icon on the right buttom, showing, that Outook ist still open in the background. Also my mails in the trash folder of outlook are not deleted, which is a clear sign, that outlook is still running.
This is - once again, after the "DEL key bug" extremly annoying! I don't use the Outlook sync function, so why is Apple touching my installation of Outlook, without asking me, and without giving me a chance, to reverse it? This is absolutely unacceptable!!

  • Outlook won't close after iTunes update

Any one else notice this after the last iTunes / Quicktime update?
After the most recent iTunes update, Outlook 2003 will no longer close completely. It stays active in the systray (that's the bottom right of the screen with the time) even though it's been closed appropriately.
The reason this is a problem is the following:
    - Outlook continues to pull mail off the POP server. My wife's iphone never sees new email because it's already been pulled by Outlook.
The workaround is to log completely off of that windows account so Outlook is forced to close. (There are several other workarounds, but that one is easy...)
    Any ideas?

  • Outlook 2003 Won't Close

After a recent iTunes update, Outlook 2003 will no longer close. It is putting a Com-add in "iTunes Outlook Addin". Once I disable, Outlook closes. How can I stop the add in from being installed? Everytime I open iTunes, it installs again.

It does this to me too. This must be fixed. IMHO there is absolutely no reason for iTunes to insist on installing an Outlook plugin -- I'm am using iTunes SOLELY for buying and downloading music.

There is no Info tab in Mavericks
if you use OS X v.10.8.5 or earlier. If you use OS X Mavericks v.10.9 or later, your contacts, calendars, and other info are updated on your computers and iOS devices via iCloud. For more information, see iCloud Help at icloud.com.

I have a new mac and want to sync my phone to the iTunes on it, but it won't let me manually manage without deleting all music on the phone already from another iTunes. is there a way around this?

    The best solution:
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.
An alternative which is really not what you should have to do, or the way it is intended to be done, if you properly manage your computer and backups:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
Sync transfer is one way, computer to device, matching the device content to the content on the computer (except purchased content as mentioned above).  For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will probably have to use third party commercial software unless you have an older model iPod. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):
    - Senuti - http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/

Do not regard your i-device as a reliable unique storage for your media. It is not a backup device and everything is structured around you maintaining your media on a computer which is itself backed up.

  • ITunes 7.7.1    Outlook Sync solution?

I just did an Mac software update and noticed itunes 7.7.1 download. Has anyone with Win XP found it and if so does it solve the Outlook Sync Client failure problem with iPhone 2.0?

Bezüglicher der Synchronisation mit der neuen Version 7.7.1 von iTunes stelle ich folgendes fest:
    - Normale Kalendereinträge werden in beiden Richtungen korrekt synchronisiert.
    - Bestehende wiederkehrende Erreignisse (z.Bsp.
Ebenfalls sehr unbefriedigend.
The relative synchronisation with the new version 7.7.1 of iTunes I determine the following:
    - Normal calendar entries are correctly synchronized in both directions.
    - Existences recurring Erreignisse (e.g. frame of birthdays) in the Outlook are still synchronized around one hour shifted. Thus uselessly.
    - Recurring Erreignisse on that the iPhone to be provided, is correctly synchronized.
    - Existing contact contacts from the Outlook have partly (probably during the summer time - CEST) around one day a shifted birthday on that iPhone. Likewise very unsatisfactorily.

  • IPhone won't backup during iTunes sync

Hi!  The last few times I've synced my iPhone 3GS in iTunes, it won't backup.  I get an error message after it goes through the other steps to sync apps and such. Normally the backup is step 1, then it does the other steps, but now it's skipping right to step 2 and then when it's finished gives me this message:
"iTunes could not backup the iPhone "Debbie's iPhone" because a session could not be started with the iPhone".  This is something I've never seen before.  Is there a fix?  It's making me nervous not having a current backup.
    Thanks, Debbie

Thanks, i've tried that already. It initiates the backup, but seems to backup one tune only, not the apps. The process takes less than a second, telling me that the apps did not transfer.

  • Is there way to sync mp3 files that won't upload to iTunes Match?

Let me briefly explain. I subscribe to iTunes Match. This works great except that there are a few large mp3 files (i.e., lectures) that won't upload to iTunes Match. I need to get those files on my iPhone or iPad. With iTunes Match on, all the uploaded music is synced but not those files. With iTunes Match off, I can easily add those files. How can I get these files to sync to the device and still use iTunes Match for all the rest of my music?

You can only remove them in iTunes on the computer.

  • ITunes won't close down.

Hi. First time of asking a question so hopefully I will include all sufficient information.
Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit.
iTunes latest version as of today (15 April 2015).
iTunes won't close down.  Continually freezes and I have to use Task Manager to close it down.  Any suggestions?

  • Itunes won't close

I got the latest iTunes on windows XP 64. I can open it up but when I go to close it. It won't close! I just keep pressing the exit button it won't close. Not even Alt+F4 works. Or File>Exit.

I have the same problem intermittently (though I have XP, not XP 64).
I can tell when the program is not going to close properly because iTunes DJ stops updating properly...it'll keep playing, but the counter will still be stuck on a previous song, and once I force-quit through Task Manager, none of the "last played" times from that song on are saved.  Happens at least once a day since I upgraded from 9 to 10.5.
When iTunes DJ is updating properly, though, it closes without a hitch.

  • ITunes to Outlook Sync has odd isssues

Almost too odd to explain, but...
Iphone 5, Ipad Mini, Windows 7 64 bit with Outlook 2003. Everything synced like clockwork until 5/19. That day there was an update I installed from Itunes 11.02 to 11.03 and a few Windows updates. Playlists and apps were syncing, but noting on contacts.
I tried dozens of online suggestions such as moving a few dll's to system 32, checking the outlook com plugion was enabled, reinstalling Itunes. I even rolled back to 11.02. Nothing made a change. Perhaps I was even getting more out of sync on contacts.
Somehow, something got contacts syncing starting to work again. I got everything cleaned up, even updated to 11.04. And then set off to test to be sure everything was now working as expected.
I can edit, create new, delete contacts -  but not everywhere!!! Everything you might expect works except:
    1. If I create a new contact on the iPhone, it will not show up in Outlook and,
    2. If I delete a contact in Outlook, it will never be removed from the iPhone!!
Now, I can do the reverse. Delete a contact on the iPhone and on next sync it disappears from Outlook. Create a contact in Outlook, and next synce there it is on the iPhone. Edit anything anywhere and the change is reflected in the other place.
Any idea what this could possibly be and how to get it working?
    Would appreciate the help.
    ~Bob

All solved, odd as it is.
To create a contact on the iPhone that syncs with Outlook, MUST have eiother email address or phone number.
To delete a contact from Outlook on the iPhone, MUST delete from Contacts, not Address Book.
It now all works. But I swear it did not used to be this way.
    ~Bob
