Outlook to iCloud, a horrible experience!!

I was so looking forward to iCloud for an efficient syncing of my Outlook (Win7 + Outlook2010), my iPhone and my iPad.  I inmediately panicked when I realized that the process entailed actually moving all my contacts and my calendar entries from the Outlook in my PC to the iCloud, deleting my Calendar and Contact files, and then moving new files labeled iCloud back to my PC.  The end result was disaster:
1.  Contact entries that i had carefully curated and catalogued (2413) over years were altered.
2.  Over 12 years of Calendar entries were completely messed up, especially as related to different time zones, categories and repeating events.  Events created by invites that were deleted or moved appeared again.
3.  And to make things worse, as proceeded to try to repair the damage, I noticed significant latency, making the task almost impossible if not time consuming.
Thankfully I had backed-up my Outlook just a few days before, allowing me to restore my original files.
What irked me the most is that none of this was documented and I was never provided warning or the option BEFORE my files were deleted. There is no documented option that I could find to reverse the process or warning to backup.
My expectation would have been to continue having Oulook as my master Contact and Calendar, and being able to sync with my iPhone and my iPad wirelessly on command (why else would an iCloud sync icon now appear on my Outlook?).

Hi Mrichburg1,
I am honestly sorry it has been this difficult to order a TV from us. It simply shouldn’t have been, and having both your orders cancelled would be frustrating for anyone. It sounds like you are now taking your business elsewhere. If there is anything I can do to retain your business please let me know.
Thanks for posting,

  • Error enabling "Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and Tasks with Outlook" in iCloud 3.0  Control Panel

Unable to enable option “Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and Tasks with Outlook” under iCloud 3.0  Control Panel.
Get following error when clicking checkbox to enable it under iCloud 3.0 Control Panel.
"Setup can't continue because Outlook isn't configured to have a default profile. Check your Outlook settings and try again."
    Have tried the following:
Uninstalled / reinstalled iCloud 3.0 control panel
Removed all mail accounts from Outlook 2013 except MS account
Confirmed Outlook was chosen for  “Always uses this profile” under Control Panel – Mail (MicroSoft Outlook 2013) – show profiles
Still get the same error when trying to enable the option under iCloud 3.0 Control Panel
PC is running Windows 8.1 (64 bit)
Outlook 2013 was just installed on the PC as part of new Office 2013 installation

    Two more things:
First, sorry for the bad spelling, grammar, and all of that. English isn't my first language and I'm so frustrated at this point I'm not paying any attention to it. Sorry!
Second, after trying to repair again the icloud 3.0 through the Control Panel of Windows, guess what? It made Offce to crash again! Now I will have to install it again.

  • I use a Win7 PC with iCloud and Outlook 2010 for syncing my calendar and contacts. I can enter data in my Outlook Calendar and it will appear in iCloud, but data entered in iCloud does not sync back to Outlook.  ICloud syncs to my iphone fine both ways.

I use Win 7 PC with iCloud and Outlook 2010 for syncing my Contacts and Calendar.  They have stopped syncing...mostly.
Now, appointments I enter on my local Outlook (iCloud) Calendar goes up to iCloud fine.  But, data I enter on iCloud directly does not come down to my local Outlook iCloud Calendar.  If I reboot the computer, the iCloud data shows up.
Also, Contacts I try to enter on my Outlook (iCloud) Contacts goes up to iCloud fine, but does not show up in my local iCloud Contacts.
All syncing works with my iPhone.
I have signed out of iCloud on PC.  I have stopped syncing and re-started.  No change.
I have an .aplzod folder for iCloud.  I have a separate Earthlink.net.pst email account in Outlook and a me.com.pst Outlook email account (which I don't actually use) listed under Data Files.
Any help would be appreciated.  Curious that Outlook will upload to iCloud but not receive downloads unless I reboot.  However, rebooting does not download the missing Contacts.

    Hi Jim!
You've started off with some good troubleshooting steps, so let's see if we can take this a little further and figure out what the issue is with your iCloud contacts and calendars. I have two articles here that will help you troubleshoot this issue a little further, but the troubleshooting steps for both articles are exactly the same, so I will lay those out for you here:
Note: When using iCloud Control Panel 2.0 and later, iCloud Calendar event descriptions in Outlook 2010 do not support text formatting (bold, italics, or underline), HTML, images, or attachments. The contextual (right-click) menu has also been disabled.
If you are having trouble with a PC (with Outlook 2007 or 2010) and iCloud Calendar, try each of these steps, testing after each to see if the issue is resolved:
Verify that you are using a Windows configuration that is supported by iCloud. For more information, see iCloud system requirements.
When enabling Calendars in the iCloud Control Panel, part of the setup process is to copy your Calendars data from the default Outlook ".pst" file to iCloud, and then remove the Calendars from the ".pst" file by placing them in the Deleted Items folder in Outlook. The Calendars data is then stored in the iCloud data set within Outlook so that changes can be pushed to and from Outlook by iCloud. Be sure you are looking for your data within the iCloud dataset within Outlook after enabling Calendars in the iCloud Control Panel. The deleted files can be seen by viewing Deleted Items within your Outlook Folder List. This is not iCloud removing your data; iCloud simply copies your data into the iCloud data set and then removes the local Calendars data by placing it in the Deleted Items folder.
Make sure your computer is online. Attempt to view www.apple.com and iCloud.com. If you can't connect to the Internet, your iCloud calendars and events will not update in Outlook. Click here for more information about troubleshooting your Internet connection.
Open a secure website to test if you are online as is necessary for iCloud Calendar. This also tests if the ports 80 and 443 are accessible. Outlook requires port 443 access to iCloud in order to push and pull updates to and from the iCloud Calendar servers.
Verify that your iCloud member name is entered into the iCloud Control Panel pane. See iCloud Setup for more information about setting up iCloud on Windows.
Completely close and reopen the iCloud Control Panel.
If you recently made changes in Outlook and they are not moving to your other devices or vice-versa, click the Refresh button in Outlook.
Turn iCloud Calendar off and back on:
    Close Outlook.
    Open the Windows Control Panel:
In Windows 8, move the pointer to the upper-right corner of the screen to show the Charms bar, click the Search charm, and then click the iCloud Control Panel on the left.
In Windows 7 and Vista, choose Start menu > All Programs > iCloud > iCloud.
Remove the checkmark in the checkbox next to Mail, Contacts, Calendars & Tasks, and click Apply. Wait a few seconds, then replace the checkmark, and click Apply.
Open Outlook and test to see if the issue has been resolved.
Ensure the iCloud Outlook Add-in is active within Outlook.
    Outlook 2010:
    Open Outlook 2010.
    Click the File menu.
Click Options in the left panel of the Outlook window.
Click Add-Ins in the left panel of the Outlook Options window.
Look at the list of add-ins beneath "Active Application Add-Ins" and verify that the "iCloud Outlook Add-in" is listed.
For Outlook 2007, follow these steps to verify the iCloud Outlook Add-in is active
    Open Outlook 2007.
From the Tools menu, choose Trust Center.
Select Add-ins from the left column.
Look at the list of add-ins beneath "Active Application Add-Ins" and verify that the "iCloud Outlook Add-in" is listed.
For additional information about managing Add-ins with Microsoft Outlook, see this Microsoft support document.
Restart your computer. This may sound simple, but it does reinitialize your network and application settings and can frequently resolve issues.

  • Horrible experience with HP Envy recovery image - Support Feedback

I've recently had a horrible experience trying to get an HP sleekbook to run an af initial recover reimage.
Most of this was because of HP support and them treating me like a criminal.
I purchased the laptop at the start of this week and the only thing I did was requested it to have 8GB of ram rather than 4GB and imediately reimaged using the minized image.
The reimage failed with the error "Detect some error during PININST_BBV"
The log indicated that the intel rapid storage driver had failed to install.
I read on the HP forums that people had reset the bios back to default prior to performing the reimage which had fixed this problem but it made no difference for me.
I then recovered it using the reset machine option from the recovery center. Which worked correctly.
But when I went to use the machine I saw that windows was no longer activated. I check the details and the showed that the product key was blocked. I did quick google on the partial product key and found that it was a key that was released and used for pirated copies of windows 8.
I rang HP and after explaining the situation was told that I had brought a used laptop that the product key had been stolen. I explained that it wasn't used and that I'd brought it brand new. I was told that I'd need to buy a new copy of windows 8 or get the product key from the shop I brought it from.
I explained that the product keys are encrypted in the UEFI and are read during the reimage. HP support told me again that they couldn't help me and that I'd need to buy a new copy of windows 8 or get the product key from the shop where the laptop was purchased.
After trying to explain how product keys work with windows 8 and new laptops and having the same comments copy and pasted to my screen I ended the conversation.
After all this I decided to crack open the laptop and remove the extra 4GB of memory and attempt to perform another minimized reimage. This actually worked fine and the OS got the correct product key and life was good again. I'm guessing that the blocked product key is used by HP to perform the initial OS install prior to reading the product key from the bios.
I am totally disgusted by HP's support and attitude towards me, the fact that they don't know how their laptops work nor care about listening to what a customer has to say.  I won't make the same mistake of buying an HP product again.

    Hey Relent0r....
I hear ya.... I have been doing support for over 20 years and recently HP have lost the meaning of "Customer Service".  All we did was take out the original drive and put in a new SSD (something we do everyday)
I had the same issue.  Product Key Blocked etc.... 0xc004e003 etc but after be told a very similar story to you... Sorry Sir, we cant help...
First issue was the I grabbed to Windows 8 Pro and not the Windows 8 Standard recovery DVD's... not a good first try but once we got the version right... followed the process below.... all done!
    Hope this helps!
Luckily one of our tech's found this procedure...
    Installation
Insert the original Windows 8 Professional 64bit Disc to the DVD drive and launch the boot drive order by pressing F9
In the driver order, select Boot from EFI File and hit enter. A window will open up, showing both the HDD/SSD and DVD drive along with a unique code next to each hardware device (This ID probably has something to do with Secure Boot).
Choose EFI Sector DVD and hit Enter
Then select <EFI> >>> <Boot> >>> Bootx64.EFI. After this system will blank out and then asked to Boot from DVD.
Press any key to boot from DVD. If it's done correctly, you'll see a HP logo starting up
After the DVD has finish initializing, Windows 8 setup screen will appear. click Next
Accept the EULA and then select Custom Install
Create a new partition on the drive you want to install the OS.
Note: Windows will create 3 additional partitions, along with the one for OS installation. This makes the drive as GPT.
    Install Windows 8
After installation and customization of personal settings. Go to Control Panel>System and you'll see Windows 8 is activated.

    Issues are usually network related
What is your internet speed? www.speedtest.net
6mbps is required for instant HD (you can switch to SD in the settings)
If on wifi try ethernet and www.istumbler.net to rule out interference
Make sure you're using your ISP's DNS

  • How to sync contacts between iCloud and Outlook without iCloud moving the contacts

    Hi,
When synching Contacts between Outlook and iCloud, iCloud moves away the Outlook contacts from the default directory, to a newly created data file.
This issue already existed with MobileMe Calendar, and now seems to have been "adopted" for the Contacts as well in iCloud.
This causes me many issues, including synching the same data with other devices and other PC's.
    Any work around?

Apples iCloud is not working with Outlook as it is making new folders isolated from the standard folder *.pst.
I have tested intensely and moved back to Google Sync (calendar) and iTunes (contacts, notes) as they sync properly with the standard folders in Outlook. Reminders sync still missing. Shame on Apple for delivering such a nonsens to us.

"iCloud requires iOS 5 on iPhone 3GS or later, iPod touch (3rd and 4th generation), iPad, or iPad 2; a Mac computer with OS X Lion; or a PC with Windows Vista or Windows 7 (Outlook 2007 or 2010 or an up-to-date browser is required for accessing email, contacts, and calendars). Some features require a Wi-Fi connection. Some features are not available in all countries. Access to some services is limited to 10 devices."

  • Is there a set up tutorial for using Outlook with iCloud

I am using Outlook on my PC (windows 7 and Outlook 2010)
    1. Is there a set up tutorial for using Outlook with iCloud?
    2.  Please clarify, I don't need to set up a XXX@me email account to get iCloud to sync with Outlook, correct?
    3.  My emails appear to by syncing, but the Outlook Calendar does not sync its Pre-Cloud entries with my Iphone and IPad.  Is this what is to e expected?
    4.  If I put a calendar entry on my PC's Outlook Calendar, it should sync with my Iphone and Ipad correct?  Again, what about entries that were made in Outlook before I signed up for iCloud?
I am hoping there is a simple step by step tutorial somewhere, because I am pretty disappointed with Apple about how confusing this is all becoming.

    Hello:
Sorry I can't bring you a solution but I am surprised your mail is working. Many of us with outlook 2010 seem to be having trouble sending. It seems apple's Pxx-smpt.mail.me.com server is rejecting the loging. I have tried it on three PC's with Win7 and Outlook 2010. It simply does not work after installing from the iCloud control panel. I have also manually configured the servers, encryption method, etc to no avail.
On the positive side, Calenda and contacts does work. First time around, the claendar duplictaed everything but I manually cleans it out. The iCloud calendar is a seperate calendar in Outlook. It seems to perform a sync with your local calendar one time. From them on, I beleive you need to use the iCloud calendar to have the same appointments show on each device. I renamed the defaut iClouds calendar to "iCloud Calendar". It's definatelly confusing and not seamless. It would be nicer to sync your OL calendar permenantly so you don;t see two or more.
Let me know your settings for iCloud email on Outlook. Try sending an email from the @me.com account.
    Thanks,
    Kevin
