OutLook won't Open

My System Windows & Pro 64Bit Outlook 2010
I had a power failure while my computer was on and outlook was opened. When power came back the system ran Check disk Windows and all other programs except outlook seem to be running fine. Outlook will not start in safe mode, system restore from 2 different
dates also failed. I get he following error message from outlooks opening screen and loading profile crash.
Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. Errors have been detected in the file C:\Users\Administrator.Arts-PC\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\artcobb_Hotmail.ost
How can I get this fixed?
Thanks in advance
Art

It seems that the data file(Ost) has not been closed properly while the power failure. System Restore would restore the configuration file to an ealier point but it doesn't work with data file.
Notice that you've got artcobb_hotmail.ost and I assum that you are using hotmail account, don't worry about it duo the data is stored in your mailbox online. We may first
run ScanPST.exe to check if we can fix the ost file at this time. If it doesn't work, we may delete the artcobb_Hotmail.ost and re-sync it when Outlook launchs again.
In addition, we may totally
create a new email profile in your machine and re-setup your mail account in Outlook to solve these. Thanks.

Earlier this week Apple released an update to iMovie that has fixed this for a lot of people. Are you running version 9.0.7? You can update to it by running Software Update or checking the Updates tab in the Mac App Store. If it's still crashing after the update, this seems to be doing the trick for a bunch of people: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4319

  • MobileMe has stopped working on my PC and now outlook won't open up without the error message.

All of a sudden, the MobileMe component has stopped working and I can't download Itunes without a Microsoft C++ error; Outlook will no longer open and this is a real problem for that is where all my swchedule and contacts are loaded.  Is this where I can get an answer?

    Well
    1. Never used it, yet Apple iTunes installed it
Mobile Me is nothing to do with iTunes, it is not installed by iTunes, it is installed by a user with Administrative rights (presumably you)
    2. The App/plugin/addon only started crashing recently
Which has no bearing on the fact that mobile Me closed 2 years ago.
    3. Even after uninstalling it, it was not completely removed - i.e. plugins still present in outlook. So buggy uninstaller.
Not for most of the users who had Mobile Me 2 years ago
Bottom line if you want to clean it, open registry editor and remove everything mobileme.
    And dont use itunes.
If that is what you want go ahead.

Hi mcclausky, you may need to manually remove a policy setting from the registry. You also should scan for malware that might have created this problem.
This article lists scanning and cleaning tools other Firefox users have found helpful: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].
To check your Windows registry for policy settings that might affect Firefox or other programs, I suggest consulting a Windows forum or Microsoft's forums. For example:

  • Firefox won't open links from Outlook when FF is started with admin privileges

    OS: Windows 7 64 bit
I usually start Firefox from a toolbar (PowerPro) which runs with admin privileges. Thus Firefox starts with admin privileges too. Under this condition links in Outlook won't open in Firefox.
But if I start Firefox with normal privileges the links in Outlook works as expected.

Under Tools > Options > Advanced look to see if the "check if Firefox is default browser on startup" Check this and then restart FF. If it isn't the default it should ask if you want to make it the default. Choose yes and it should open when clicking links again.

    Hello,
Many times i get the question why attachments in Outlook won't open when they are working at home (connected with WiFi).
When they open an .xls, Excel will start and will be starting op for about 1 minute and then comes back with a grey screen.
When they are at work (logged in on the domain) everythings works well.
    Does anyone have a suggestion?
    Thanks in Advance!

    Hi,
Did they use the same computer when they work at home and at work?

  • Outlook 2010 won't open after installing icloud for windows

    Hi,
Installed icloud for windows at work this morning after moving my MM account to icloud at home on my MBP.
Installed ok but after ticking the mail, contacts, calendar and bookmark boxes on icloud for windows Outlook 2010 starts but won't open and stays on the "Processing..." for a long time before I close it.
Also the icloud for windows control panel won't reopen except the time it opens after installation. I have tried removing it and rebooting but after it's installed, if you close the control panel it won't reopen although it's still running in Task Manager. Closing it in Task Manager and restarting doesn't make a difference.
Currently I removed, rebooted and reinstalled and only have the bookmarks ticked and outlook works ok but the control panel still won't reopen.
I am on a exchange server so don't know if this is part of the problem. Not real worried about mail but would like calendars working again.
Very thankful for any help you can offer.

I had the same problem after successfully moving from MobileMe to iCloud yesterday on my PC, ipad and iphone.
Today I couldn't open Outlook 2010. An Outlook dialogue box for my MobileMe email account kept asking for the email password, and although I put the password in, it kept re-appearing.
I turned off Norton spam temporarily, because I noticed Outlook was stuck processing the Norton plug ins at opening, and managed to open Outlook but the programme crashed every time I tried to access my email account settings (I thought I would try to delete the MobileMe email account).
I then opened the Control Panel for iCloud and unchecked the Mail with Outlook box, which has enabled Outlook to work again. The @me.com email account was gone when I checked the email accounts. I never needed to use the @me.com email account anyway.
How frustrating and such a waste of my time.
Does anyone know what difference it makes if the MobileMe/iCloud email is not connected to Outlook? Does it really make any difference when you have your email accounts in the iPad and iPhone anyway?

  • Blackberry won't receive messages when Outlook 2007 is open

Ok guys, I was facing a problem of emails not getting delivered when Outlook 2007 was open. Did some online research and found following:
Black berry internet services no longer support POP3 access, refer here http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB17407
Now, the only option is to enable IMAP in Google Apps/ Gmail. I configured my gmail using directions here: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78882
and for Outlook 2007, I configured IMAP settings using directions here: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=77689
Finally, I am getting emails both on Blackberry as well as Outlook 2007, without any synchronization problems. Issue closed!
PS: No need to reply. Just posting for benefit of the community.

Do a back up of your BBMessenger first (BBM > options > backup).
Delete BBMessenger from Options > Advanced > Applications.
Do a simple reboot on the BlackBerry in this manner: With the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot.
Now, download and reinstall BBM from www.blackberry.com/bbm using your BlackBerry browser.\

  • Outlook intermittently won't open

Recently people in our company have been getting the error: 'Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. The attempt to log on to Microsoft Exchange has failed.'
I've had a look at the knowledge base and seen the answers for people who have had similar problems. The "Outlook.exe /resetnavpane" and also deleting the mail profile and recreating it, both have some degree of success for a limited period of time.
The next day or even later on in the day if the program is closed, the issue can occur again. We've currently got people using Webmail but it's not a permanent solution. Sometimes doing none of those things but trying again a little later will open the program.
Any insight on the matter would be appreciated.
We are using Exchange 2010 on Windows Server 2008 R2. Our users connect through XenDesktop 7 Citrix machines or standalone machines.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
According to your description, I understand that Outlook client  can’t open occasionally with error “Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. The attempt to log on to Microsoft Exchange has failed.”
If I misunderstand your concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.
This error notice that Outlook client cannot connect to Exchange server, it may be caused by network interruption, abnormal Exchange service or server overloaded.
Please try to run Outlook with Cache mode for test. Besides, open Application Event log to check any related error message.
Additional, run ExBPA to test and get more details about your Exchange server.
    Best Regards,

  • Using Outlook 2007 I want to receive emails on my iPhone 4 only when Outlook is NOT open on my computer, as when away from home or want to quickly check email when computer is not turned on. Either ALL emails come to my iPhone or none at all.

Using Outlook 2007 I want to receive emails on my iPhone 4 only when Outlook is NOT open on my computer, as when away from home or want to quickly check email when computer is not turned on. Either ALL emails come to my iPhone or none at all. Is the setting I need to change in Outlook or on the iPhone or is it somewhere else?  I used to have this setting but transferring Outlook to a new laptop somehow turned it off.

No. You really can't do that. Not easily at any rate. You would have to set them both up to use POP3, but even then there is no way to guarantee that the phone won't poll the server prior to your computer doing so, pulling down the message from the server.

  • Safari won't open... spinning beach ball

Out of the blue this morning, Safari won't open. I click it, the icon bounces, and then I get the spinning beach ball. If I go to the Force Quit Applications window, it says it's not responding. Any ideas what may be causing this and how to fix it?
    -B

What is the exact wording of the message you see, and what are you doing when you see it?
These are the steps I took this morning, again, along with the wording.  Before these steps, I logged into my account through the Google browser, and verified that I had a purchase in October of OS X Lion:
1 - booted computer under recovery.
2 - Disk Utility - Repair Disk  (Result: The Volume New Macbook appears to be okay)
3 - Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions - (Result:0 Repaired - Permissions Repair Complete)
4 - Reinstall Mac OS - "Your computer's eligibility will be verified with Apple - OK
5 - "To Continue, you must agree to the terms and conditions" - Agree
    6 - Select New Macbook - Install
7 - signing into Apple Store  (Result: This Apple ID has not purchased Lion)
8 - rebooted and tried to launch App Store - back to spinning beach balls, along with all other internet apps; Safari, Mail, App Store, iTunes, etc.
Aps not affected: Google Chrome, Outlook (as long as I don't click on an email connected to an HTTPS server) and anything not on the internet.
I hope this helps and thank you for your advice.  I wish I could use my Snow Leopard disks; my dvd drive is broken.

after lion 10.7.3 update messed my mac had to restore from time machine now Outlook won't connect with microsoft exchange, any idea?

I've had a similar problem.  On my first boot up after installing 10.7.4,  Firefox would not open.  Crashed every time.  Safari was not affected.  I have no idea if it was related to the flash plugin, but I did install a the latest version of that a couple of weeks ago.
Here's what fixed it: a second boot up.
