Output Audio to Input Audio

I own an iBook G4, one of the last, and I'm saving up for an electric guitar to go with my acoustic, and when I saw the Griffin cord that goes from the guitar to my mac, I imediatly thought "Then I won't have to by an amp!" Then I thought, "I can also record songs I write!" Finaly I thought, "Looks like that would work with my electric keybored, too!" I was very happy, then I looked a bit more closely at the cord and realized I needed an audio input port, which I don't have. I know Apple is excpecting us to be happy with our nice little internal microphones (ooh.) but I'm not. Seeing this cord I was tempted to get iLife '06 (I have '05) just for the latest GarageBand but I ran into this problem. So I go looking for a solution and find out there's a way to change this output port into an input port. I found it once, but I am unable to find it again. So please help me find it again, if you know. Thank You!

Hi yodadasoldja,
I think what you're looking for is the iMic which connects via USB.
AFAIK there's no way to change the output port to an input port, though I might be wrong…
Well done on getting one of the last iBooks. I love mine, the larger 13.3 MacBook doesn't really cut it for me.
Have fun,
Adrian

  • Can a sound card be configured to both output and input audio?

I am building a radio tester and would like to output a 1 kHz tone from the laptop's sound card, and then after its been through the radios, input the audio signal again and carry out a SINAD measurement on it.  I can get the VI's to carry out each operation separately  (that is, get one to produce and output a 1 kHz tone, and the other to read an input audio signal and produce a SINAD measurement), but I can't get the two to work together as required.
I think the problem is to do with the device number.  In both VI's the device number is set as 0, so does this cause a problem when running them together.  The tone is being generated fine, but but it appears that this is what the SINAD VI is measuring, not the input coming from the radio.
Does the device number refer to the sound card itself, and if so, is it possible to distinguish between the audio in and audio out ports?
    Any help would be appreciated.

You certainly can - just look at your Windows Soundcard settings and play
with them for a bit. Are you using Line in and Line out? (speaker that is).
What I do is test them separately then together. You don't need two sound
cards by the way though you must inhibit line in so it doesn't play through
the speakers otherwise the input and output get mixed together. The otehr
problem you should have is that teh sine wave will sound as if it is
intermittant - there is a fix for this.

  • Audio Wont Play Through Output When Usb Input is Connected

I have the "MXL Mic Mate" usb mic interface. It works perfectly in GarageBand, once I choose the Output to the Built-in output in preferences.
However in Logic, when the device is recognized, It can record (pick up the input audio) but the no sound can be heard coming from the output.
I tried going under the computers preferences and setting the default audio output but no luck.
Advice on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
    thank you.

You might need to check the settings in teamspeak.
What happens if you dont use team speak overlay? does the sound play normally from your headphones?

  • Can't get any audio ("no input or output devices") on MacBook Air, running MAC OSX 10.8.5

This happened today completely out of the blue.
I have tried some of the other suggestions posted here and other forums. I did a Disk Utility check and nothing seems wrong with the hard disk,
    Rebooted 3 times.
    Re-set the PRAM
Tried headphones (still no response from either audio volume key, as both show a circle with line through it,
and tried System Preferences on Sound, but I get the same message (no devices).
Tried to locate the preferences file called BezelServices that others have talked about, but can't find it...

  • No audio output on record enabled audio track

    Hi guys,
Not sure whether anyone else has encountered this issue with Logic X. When recording using an audio track once the record enable button is selected I am able to see input but the input doesnt go to any output so I am unable to monitor what I want to record. Once I record I am able to hear what I have recorded on playback. The issue has nothing to do with my audio interface as it does the same thing with the built in audio and output.
This problem doesnt exist when using audio instruments and it seem to have just started randomly.
    Please help!

I think this might help the discussion. I also have auto input monitoring selected. I can also hear the audio when I click the input monitoring button.

  • Dual 1.25 MDD audio/mic input jack broken--Need replacement parts??

Hello. I'm in need of the audio input/output 1/4" jacks on the rear of the logic board of my Mac dual 1.25 Mirror Door Drive tower. They appear to be assembled in one unit. It has "312HB" markings on it. Somehow the Mic input has physically broken and will not keep the 1/4" mic plugged in. Apple told me that I need to replace the entire board. I know that's not true. Everything works fine. I just don't have any audio/mic input. Does anyone know where I might find a replacement part or maybe even a junk logic board that I can grab the jack from and solder it onto my board? I've torn apart all my ancient PCs out in the shed and they don't have the same type units. Any help or tips would be great.
    Thanks much,
    Robert

I had started this quest when I found out that I could get several other brands of webcams other than the iSight. The problem is that most of the ones that I saw that did have a built in mic, needed to still be input into the audio in. I think I solved it tho. I finally won an iSight on ebay whch is supposed to have an internal mic and runs thru the firewire. I probably spent way too much but I know it's worth it to not have to deal with the headaches. The plug still bugs the heck out of me tho. I just always have to have everything in tip top shape.

  • How to use airplay speakers in multi-output device without crackling audio?

    Hi,
I would like to mirror the audio output from my mac mini to the built-in output and an airplay speaker.
Therefore I added a Multi-Output Device containing  the Built-in- and Airplay output, as soon as I activate the airplay speaker the sound is mirrored but unfortunately always with a crackling sound coming of the speakers set as "slave Device"... only the Device set as "Master Device" has clear sound, doesn't matter if it's the airplay speaker or the speaker (or headphone) directly connected to the built-in output.
I've tested this with a mac mini and an mac book air as audio source, same problem. Both were running Mac OS V. 10.9.2.
Does anyone have an idea what I'm doing wrong?

I'm using a 2011 Macbook Pro running Mavericks and current Apple TV (MD199HK/A 3rd generation) when trying to output audio to both Apple TV and built-in output simultaneously I suffer crackling and popping. I have this issue once I use Audio MIDI Setup (under utilities) to create a Multi-Output Devise. Once I use this multi-output devise made up of Apple TV and Built-In Output to get my music to both output devises at once BUT I get crackling sound on either Spotify or iTunes.
I've worked around this issue by using AirParrot. I select Apple TV in AirParrot with Audio enabled. The Apple TV then takes all audio output, then I select the 'Multi-Output Devise created in 'Audio MIDI Setup' and I have playback through Apple TV and Built-In Output without any crackling or popping.
Only minor outstanding issue is that whatever scenario I then run Audio Midi Setup in terms of setting various devises as Master Clock and resampling of sub devise I can't perfect the sync between Apple TV audio output and my local Macbook Pro, but close enough with the slightest hint of echo. Plenty of forums discussing Word Clock sync which is out of my league. Un-ticking drift correction on the 'AirParrot' audio output has them close enough, depends on how easily you can hear your apple TV output from the room where your Macbook Pro is and vice versa.

  • I am wanting in input audio to a MacBook Pro  running 10.9.4.  Since there is only the internal microphone as an input choice, how do I accomplish this?

I am wanting in input audio to a MacBook Pro  running 10.9.4.  Since there is only the internal microphone as an input choice, how do I accomplish this?

Not something I've ever done, but I found a 9-year-old article from MacWorld -> http://www.macworld.com/article/1041790/tapetocd.html - that explains it a bit. Apparently the only software that you need is GarageBand and a hardware interface. Just Google "copy audio cassette to mac" and you'll get tons of hits.

  • "ATI HDMI output: ATI High Definition Audio Device not plugged in"

Hi, I have a HP Pavilion p6210t PC running Windows 7. A few days ago, the sound stopped working, out of the blue. In Device Manager, it says ATI HDMI output / ATI High Definition Audio Device not plugged in." Computer is not connected with a TV, just a set of basic Logitech speakers.
I really have no idea how this might have happened. Any ideas on fixing this? I've rebooted and all that basic stuff, but nothing. Thanks!

Never mind, somehow the speakers were not set as default devices for sound. Fixed.

  • "AMD HDMI Output -AMD High Definition Audio Device not plugged in

i have an HP Pavilion dv6-6110us laptop. i have had this laptop for less than 1 month and the sound is not working at all. I checked to make sure nothing was muted, i uninstalled the soundcard and reinstalled it on Device Manager, and still, I cannot manage to get the sound back on. the audio settings says "AMD HDMI Output -AMD High Definition Audio Device not plugged in) ..but i have no clue how to "plug it in". Help!!!?

Hey! You essentially have two sound cards, including the HDMI. First, make sure you're using the ATI graphics card, and not the Intel, when you want to use the HDMI.
Next, go to Windows Control Panel\Sound
On the playback tab (which shows by default), WHEN YOUR HDMI IS PLUGGED IN AND WORKING, you should see two playback devices: Your internal sound card/speakers, and the AMD HDMI. All you need to do is switch between the playback device you want the sound to be channelled to. You can switch this at any time. I do this when watching in the other room via my projector, or in my comp. room. Just select the HDMI sound device and choose the button on bottom-middle "Set Default". This will change the "default device" tag to below the HDMI playback device. To reset, either unplug the HDMI, or switch it here. This is always the first place you should look when you have sound issues.
Because I switch quite often, I have a shortcut link on my desktop to this sound menu, for quick switching.
If this doesn't work, make sure you have drivers for your ATI video card installed. Check you exact model and make sure your bios is up to date. They have made for switchable graphics now, which is much preferable to the previous auto-detect switch. The drivers are updated, as well. The latest HP drivers for the ATI were released in November. You can install these, then install the latest AMD/ATI Mobility Video Driver package over the top to make sure you have the latest video drivers. Either of these packages includes the HDMI audio driver, which you may not have installed.

  • How Do I Output 4-Channel Discreet Audio?

Is there a way to output 4-channel discreet audio in FCP? We want channels 1&2 to be stereo and channels 3&4 to be mono.
    Anybody???
    thanks

well the first place to start, if you haven't done so already, is to set your project up with the output settings you are wanting to get.
with your sequence active, go to Sequence menu > Settings... then select the Audio Outputs tab in the settings window
you'll need to select 4 audio outputs with the channel grouping of the first pair set as stereo and the second pair as dual mono
you assign individual tracks in your sequence to the audio outputs by right clicking in the track on or around the track lock icon / autoselect icon, and selecting Audio Outputs from the context menu and then target track from its submenu
you may need to simply double up your tracks if you are trying to create both a stereo and mono copy of the same audio within the same timeline as FCP does use have a powerful enough patch bay paradigm for this purpose

Multiple Output Ports In Logic Audio.
Many people have had problems with Multiple Output Ports with Logic Audio I have come up with a solution that allows me to program 8 synths using 8 ports. Have a look at my site if you have problems with your Output Ports

For sure, your efforts have lead to a greater understanding of how the Environment works, and yes, your method would work, but it's really long-winded :-)
Another way to set this whole shebang up is to use Audio MIDI Setup to configure the 'Virtual" external synths, MIDI Ports, Receive Channels etc.
When you make an External MIDI track in Logic via the Library, Logic will automatically create the Multi-Instrument objects, preconfigured with the correct channels enabled.
The downside of this method comes with regard to Patch Names within the Multi-Instruments. You would need to set these up every time (or save as a template).
Note: do not use the "Manual" Multi's at the same time as the Audio MIDI Setup method.... you end up with 2 of everything in the Library (and potentially duplicates in the Environment).

  • Can't choose audio device inputs...

I can't seem to select the desired inputs on for my audio device in STP.
One day it worked, but most others I can't configure it.
I can choose the device in the inputs tab, but it only lists the device name (AudioFire4) and not listing the different inputs available..
Is there some trick to getting this to work in STP? Everything works great in all other apps i use.. Peak, Live, Logic..
How should I be configuring Soundtrack Pro?
OS and Apps are all up to date, and I'm using an Echo AudioFire4 firewire interface..

I am also perplexed and frustrated with this issue. I
have tried every combination and order of set-up but
can't get my M-Audio Black Box audio interface to
show up in STP. I can record just fine in GarageBand
but the interface doesn't even appear in STP. All
software is the latest including drivers, firmware,
etc. on the interface. I am wondering if the M-Audio
is just plain glitchy? Or is STP fussy?

UPDATE: After a lot of uninstalling and re-installing and plugging and unplugging (several times), I think I have stumbled upon the issue. Previously, I had the the interface plugged in through a Belkin powered USB hub. I tried plugging the interface directly into the front USB jack of the G5 and - voila - it works. I can see it and record through it in STP. Mystery solved, I guess. Could this be the problem some others have had in seeing their interfaces in STP? Good luck.
