Can I play music in iTunes via AirTunes AND my computer together? It seems that I only can choose between my Computer or AirTunes.

We have downloaded HDVSplit and it works brilliantly thanks - audio and video now in sync!
Another question .. it seems to output AVCHD rather than HDV .. can't seem to see anywhere to change the output format?
We are a bit worried that we might run into problems editing as we are producing a 45minute feature taking in approx 8 hours worth of footage ..
We are hearing stories that native HDV has a lot less overheads than AVCHD. Plus it seems a shame to have HDV footage which is compressed to AVCHD to edit.
In saying this we have found that the AVCHD rendered by HDVSplit seems better than other AVCHD footage we have viewed downloaded off a Sony CX12 camera, which is good news.
We have heard that Sony's DVGate works in a similar way to HDVSplit but retains the HDV format -- but as yet haven't located a Win 7 version.
We do have a CD with "Picture Motion Browser Ver 2.0.17 for HDV camcorder" not sure if that would work?

Airtunes and computer out of sync: traced to APX (n version)

I had posted this in the itunes forum, but I've now traced it to the airport express (n version). I traced it by running Airtunes (a utility that allow streaming of any audio content to an APX) and the problem did NOT happen. I'm running APX version 7.3.2. Here is what I originally posted:
When I stream music from itunes 8.1.1.10 to only the airtunes speakers, it 'hiccups' every couple seconds, skipping over tiny chunks of the music. it does not come over as silence; it's as if the music folds back on itself and a tiny chunk is skipped. this happens with any content. when I switch to my computer only, it's fine. this did not happen until very recently.

Without knowing the specs of your videos it is hard to say. I'm also running a Mac and am having no such issues.
My first thought is that you have something from a 3rd party installed that is causing conflicts. If all else fails try transcoding your mp4 files to a frame based codec using the Adobe Media Encoder. Pick one of the Apple production codecs or Jpeg compressed QuickTime.
Are you running a ram preview? Did you render your Premiere timeline? Are you new to AE?

Best Output to HDTV and Computer?

I just got a Micro four thirds cameras that takes 720 HD movies in avi besides regular stills in 12mb. What is the best Share output when I want to play on an HDTV? (I have a 1080 but do not have a Blu-ray burner in my computer; only a DVD burner)??

Alan, are you using a camera like the Panasonic Lumix GF1? That camera records video in one of the following formats: AVCHD-Lite or Motion JPEG.
I think what Alan is attempting to do it to burn the AVCHD Lite files onto a standard DVD and playing back 720 HD resolution on certain BluRay players such as the Sony Playstation's BluRay.
That said, I don't believe Alan's Premiere Elements version 4 supports AVCHD editing or burning and the improvement in quality you may be seeing Alan could be the upconversion to near HD quality that most BluRay players will do with standard definition material.
I think you are correct though that AVCHD footage can be burned to standard DVD's and played back in 720 HD resolution on certain BluRay players.
I'm rather out of my depth on high definition so Steve or John, please feel free to step in and correct my info if it is incorrect.

Getting the user name and computer name

I've been trying to find out how to do this, but can't seem to get it.
I have an AIR application that needs to get the user's login name, and computer name for verification. I can't find anywhere to do this. Is AIR able to get this information? Is there work arounds if there isn't?
It won't ever be a web app, just an AIR app.

Broadcasting through both Jukebook and Computer!

I know it sounds crazy, but can one (meaning me) "broadcast" my music through the Jukebox and Computer setting?? Why do I need this? Well, I have my ole' powerbook hooked up to my main stereo (via the computer's audio output), but my bedroom stereo is hooked up to my airport express. So I need my computer to play through the "computer" output setting for my main stereo, but need it to simultaneously play through the "jukebox" setting to play through my bedroom stereo. Any thoughts, questions, concerns??? Thanks

You need to use Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil software to do this, but apparently there will be a 3 second delay between the two.

Firewall Message with Airtunes and AppleTV

I am using iTunes 8.02 on a Mac running Tiger 10.4.11. I like to stream my music to my AppleTV (which is running the most recent version of the firmware). My wireless router is an Airport Express (running the latest v6.3 software).
In iTunes, I see a drop down menu showing me my AppleTV. When I select it, I see a pop up warning message:
"Your Computers firewall settings will prevent you from using Airtunes.
Please check your Firewall settings
Learn More Ignore Open Firewall Settings"
I click ignore and it works!!
But Why am I getting this message?
I have followed the instructions in:

I have even disabled "Stealth Mode" in Tiger's firewall suggested in the forums.
What am I missing?

You could only have one function at one time. (So you can't use your G5 and Apple TV on the internet while using AirTunes) as (AFAIK) the AirPort express can't be used as a 'wireless access point' at the same time as AirTunes.
To try and summarize
If you want to use AirTunes and have your computer and Apple TV connected to the same network with internet connectivity at the same time you can:
1. Purchase an AirPort Extreme base station.
2. Connect your cable modem to the AirPort extreme via ethernet, set up a WiFI network and connect your G5 and Apple TV.
3. Join your AirPort express to the AirPort extreme network via client mode.

I have 3 airport express units, an Ipod and a PC. I used the PC to set up an airTunes and the AirUtility can see all three of the airexpresses. The Ipod displays all of the airexpresses and I can pick any one to stream music to. PC won't - any ideas?

I'm having the same issue. After opening Audio Midi Setup in Utilities I noticed that the master volume slider of the Built-In Output is very low. I am not able to slide to get any more level out of the system.
Can you adjust the master volume on your system?

In your instructions, you say to use the same encryption type as the router has set up. well, I am using the WEP 64 bit encryption and the Airport Utility does not have this...it has 40 bit. Is this a problem, or do I have to be using a the same type of encrytion ?
WEP is available in either 40 or 104-bit, but is usually "advertised" as either 64- or 128-bit respectively. For example, 64-bit WEP uses a 40 bit key (also known as WEP-40), which is concatenated with a 24-bit initialization vector (IV) to form the 64-bit RC4 traffic key. So, WEP 64 on the Linksys & 40-bit is equivalent.
What concerns me more is the loss of bandwidth performance you are experiencing when connecting the AX. When the AX is configured as a wireless client it is acting just like any other wireless devices (computer, laptop, printer, etc.) and not like another router. This should cause little or no bandwidth loss. True the more secure the wireless encryption used WPA2 vs. WEP, the more overhead is required for security, but the differences you are seeing seem excessive.
It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference in the immediate area that is preventing your Linksys from providing a good clean signal.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like the following to determine potential areas of interference, and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them where possible:
For Macs:
o MacStumbler
o iStumbler, or
For PCs:
o NetStumbler

Delete file from iTunes Library and Computer

I convert a lot of my own TV shows for playback on iPad/iPod touch. Once I have watched the show I delete it from my library.
It used to be that when I deleted from my library, I would get a message asking if I wanted to delete from library only or from library AND computer. It does not ask me this anymore.
I went into preferences and clicked on "reset all warnings" but that didn't fix the problem. Any tips on how to restore this functionality?

What I mean is I don't want an extra copy of the file made when I add something to my library. I already have the file where I want it.
I did try your suggestion, and just as I suspected, it made an extra copy in a different location on my computer, then when I deleted it, yes, it asked me if I wanted to move it to the recycle bin, but it only deleted the copy, not the original.
I'm marking your response as helpful, as I can use it as a workaround if I can't find a better solution, but I have never done it this way before. I've always had full control over which folders my shows were in, and only one copy. And when I've deleted, it has deleted the original file, not just a copy of it.

iPod is recognized by iTunes and computer, but wil not sync songs. I have about 1400 songs and just got 40 more, and before I bought those 40 my iTunes was wiped out. I still had the files so my iTunes was filled up again. Now, when I connect my iPod to the computer it is recognized and then it says "do not disconnect" then after a few seconds it says "ipod update is complete- ok to disconnect". but it did not upload any songs. How can I make it work?

If your iPod shows up in Explorer under 'my computer' try changing the drive letter:
-- Click on Start=>Control Panel=>Admin Tools=>Computer Management=>Disk Management
-- Right-Click on the iPod and select “change drive letter”
-- Choose something further along in the alphabet that is unused (Usually, “M”, “N”, “O” or something similar)
-- Safely eject the iPod
-- Reboot the PC
Then restore your iPod to factory settings.

After doing some data mining, found out from community this is an long standing APPLE problem- which doesn't get much tech support in terms of fixes. I have an HPPavillion DV6 64 bit, Windows 7 OS . After reading an earlier complaint from 2009 in the support community, I ran diagnostics from ITunes which gave the following result. Can someone please help? (I'm not enough of a techie to know what I'm doing or how to locate /reinstall CD drivers. I am searching for driver disc but cannot locate.)

Doublechecking ... did you have CD/DVD drive tests checked when you ran those diagnostics? (I'm not seeing the CD/DVD test results down the bottom of the results where I'd expect to see them.)
