Output file size

I have been away from doing video for some time.  Been doing still photos.  In that medium I have learned the tricks of the trade on how to change the pixels per inch and compression levels to minimize the size of the final product for better performance over the internet.  My question is what games do you play with videos to minimize the end product file size?

Jeff
Your views on the undernoted would be appreciated.
Recapping the example in post #29
File size F = B x T
Lets say bitrate B = 3000 (kB/s) and duration T = 5min = 300 seconds
Hence file size F = 3000 x 300 = 900000 kB
So returning to the previous example, instead of adjusting the Compression Ratio from 9 to 2.25, maintain the original compression ratio based on the original 3000 kB/s bitrate, that is 9. This means that when the Frame Size is now adjusted down from 640 x 480 to 340 x 240, the bitrate can go down in the same proportions. Namely from 3000 kB/s to 750 kB/s. This then reflects in the file size reducing accordingly to 225000 kB, showing a drop in file size in direct proportion to reducing frame dimensions.
I believe this addresses the original poster's request for guidance on file size parameters and shows a direct relationship between file size and frame size and also incorporates temporal compression considerations.
John
PS
Mathematically this can be expressed as:
Rearranging the Adobe File Size equation and introducing a codec compression variable:
File size F = (Frame Size K x Frame rate (fps)) x T
                                        C
Where K = ([Pixel Width x Pixel Height x Bit Depth] / 8) / 1024
and C = compression ratio of the codec
Therefore  F = B x T = (Frame Size K x Frame rate (fps)) x T ( T not equal to 0 )
                                                       C
Therefore B = (Frame Size K x Frame rate (fps))
                                        C
or
B (is proportional to) Frame Size
This shows mathematically that B the bitrate is directly proprtional to the Frame Size assuming Frame rate and Compression Ratio are held constant. Even if the Compression Ratio is not held constant, but allowed to vary through the compression process, the average/mean/notional Bitrate used to calculate the file size in the equation F = Bmean x T can still be considered to be a function of the Frame Size. This would be achieved by:
F = The Sum of  (B1 x T1 + B2 x T2 + … Bn x Tn) = Bmean x T
Again, this ignores container overheads and audio etc

  • Output file size doubled

I have created a movie in Premiere Elements that uses hi-def video, still images, narration and a soundtrack. The movie is about 1 hour long. Once the movie reached its final length of about 1 hour, the output file size of the movie to be burned to Blu-ray was consistently around 11 GB. For reasons I don't understand, the output file size has abruptly grown to 26 GB. I have not added any significant footage or effects since I reached the 1 hour mark. I've only made very small tweaks to the audio balance and transitions.
The only thing that I can think of that might have caused this growth is that I went into the project settings and turned off "optimize stills." I may also have turned on "maximum bit depth." When I clicked ok, Premiere Elements told me that it had to re-render the project, which i did so. Since then, though, i have re-enabled "optimize stills" and turned off "maximize bit depth." I have also re-rendered the project again. My file size is still 26 GB.
I am running PE on a 3.06 GHZ laptop with 6 GB of ram. Running Windows 7, 64-bit.
Has anyone else run into this issue?

File size is dependent on Bit-Rate and on Duration. If you have upped the Bit-Rate, you will see an increase in file size. Will the Project still fit on your BD? If so, and you want highest quality, the Bit-Rate and Bit-Depth can just stay higher. If space is an issue, then you can drop these down a bit.
Something else to think about and look for is has your Duration changed. This can be caused by "Orphans," out beyond where you intend your Timeline to end. This ARTICLE will give you some tips. This is easy to check.

  • Excel output file size is large - How to make it small in size?

    Hi,
An Excel file out put is too large when I get it from application. If I copy and paste the same content in an excel sheet , the size is too small.
    How can I fix this?
Excel output size from application - 12.4 MB - 4500 records
copy paste file size - 827 KB
    Oracle EBS 11.5.10.2
BI Publisher Desktop Version - 10.1.3.4.2
    Thanks in advance.

BIP generates an XHTML output with mime-type xls and thus Excel is invoked when it is downloaded. XHTML is text and therefore it is lenghty. When you copy and paste it in Excel you save it in binary format and compress.
My suggestion is create an excel template instead of rtf. Not sure if this is possible for EBS (open a ticket with Oracle Support to confirm you can use excel templates in EBS the version you have).
    Reference:
    http://blogs.oracle.com/xmlpublisher/entry/real_excel_templates_i
In this way your output will be a truly binary file with size much more smaller.

  • Media Encoder CS4 output file size varies--why??

I was batch encoding several files yesterday, and one of the files failed. Adobe Media Encoder provided no details, other than when I hover over the yellow exclamation point error icon, it says: "Error compiling movie. Unknown error." Very insightful.
Today I reprocessed the file same file with the same preset [FLV - Same As Source (Flash 7 and Higher)] and it worked fine. To check for instability on my machine, I actually ran the same job 10 times, and each job succeeded. But the curious thing is, even though I was using the same input file and output preset, I see that the output files vary in size. The output sizes are:
    30,739,977 bytes
    30,750,834 bytes
    30,750,504bytes
    30,750,654bytes
    30,739,928bytes
    30,740,044bytes
    30,750,615bytes
    30,740,001bytes
    30,739,979bytes
    30,750,637bytes
Now I understand that this variation is less than 10kB on a 30MB file, so it's prety small. But I am curious as to why the file size would vary in this way.
    Any ideas?

I would guess that you are overclocking your cpu and the cooler is not able to make the cpu cool enough and some calculations can go wrong. There are programs that put the cpu in a high load and check if it's running properly as expected. Give them a try.

  • Output file size restrictions - HD Video for YouTube

For over a year YouTube has removed restrictions on file sizes for individuals that want to do so.  The preset output in Premier Elements 11 for "Online - HD Video for YouTube 1920X1080" will not allow a video longer than 15 minutes.  I need to remove this restriction and be able to produce files to upload to YouTube without file size restrictions.  How can I do this?

    TheBanjoNut
You cannot. And, Premiere Elements 12 has the same YouTube limitations as 11.
You need to export your Timeline to a file saved to the computer hard drive, and then upload that file to YouTube at the YouTube web site.
At YouTube, you would need to explore the opportunities that it offers in the way of "extended times". It may require special accounts.
Without further details of your Premiere Elements project preset and the properties of your source media, I would generalize and suggest that you look at the follow choices for creating this file for upload to YouTube at the YouTube web site...
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    AVCHD
    with Presets =
    MP4 - H.264 1920 x 1080p30
    or
YouTube Widescreen HD (changing the settings under the Advanced Button/Video Tab of the preset)
Please review. If you have any further questions on this, please do not hesitate to ask.
    Thanks.

  • Output file size increases as export occurs?

    Hello,
I'm currently exporting a lengthy project in Adobe Media Encoder.  The settings are fairly straightforward I think, h.264 codec, 1280x720 @ 23.976 fps (i'm downgrading a bit from the native 1920x1080 files) ultimately leading to a .mov file.
I've exported many times but never bothered to look at the output file template that is created where I told the compressor to save the export WHILE it is being exported.  So I don't know if when i click on the file and it says zero bytes after a half hour of encoding, if that means something is wrong of it just won't show the file size until export is complete?

    Hi,
The file size cannot be determined unless the file is exported completely.  So please check the size of the file once encoding completes.

  • Lightroom Mobile output file sizes

I have started using LR mobile yesterday and can't figure out how to export, share or even save to the camera roll a full size resolution photo after I do my edit. There doesn't seem to be an option to allow me to choose the edited photo output size and all I get is the edited photo at around 2000 pixels. I understand LR mobile uses smart previews and the original file imported is smaller as a result, but the 2048 pixels output is smaller than what my client requires and this forces me to use other Apps to deliver my files on the go.

    120MB - WOW!
I am starting to look into the whole Adobe mobile dev tools - as apps are targetting devices with usually way smaller capabilites than common desktops - file size is possibly an important factor, right!? lol
You could take a look at some pure AS3 coding - Daniel Freeman seems to be having some fun in this direction with his non flexy AS3 mobile components library - MadComponents.

  • Will duplicating a slide cause the output file size to double?

I have a captivate project that consists of a single slide.
This slide contains an swf video on the stage. If I publish the
project, the output is 137 kb. If I go back to captivate, and
duplicate this slide ten times, the published output is 670 kb. Is
this a normal increase in merely duplicating a slide? I thought
captivate uses symbols to maintain a small file size, or is that
just adobe flash that does that?

To get 8 mins under 75 Mbs, you'll have to test bit rates in the 800Kb to 1.2 Mb range to see what you get for quality.
H.264 is sort of the go-to codec for Web delivery. But if you can, also check out the x.264 decoder, which has a strong following…particularly when it comes to lower bit rate files.
    Good luck.

  • Is there a pdf output file size limitation?

    Hi,
I have an rtf invoice template that worked fine in test environments. Now that it has been migrated to Production, it works except for this one invoice that has created a meta data XML file that is 2 MB, which is not that large, is it? Additionally, I cannot open the metadata file in html, it just hangs, but can in a text editor, so I have been chopping up the file into smaller pieces and can get pdf output of around 175 pages worth.
I've tried it with different sets of data from this file, and they work, just not the whole file. Is there some setting required for this to work?

Thanks, but what sort of infrastructure are you referring to? There are 8500 rows of data for this invoice at three levels which is not large, but some fields are 240 characters long.
I'm not getting an Out of Memory type of error. In fact, I'm not getting any errors, just that there is no output. pdf-compression is set to true. What else could I check?

And metalink note 1100253.1 states that this issue (java.lang.StackOverflowError) might be caused by a too large set of data to be sorted in the layout file. Recommendation is to removed the sort from the layout file and instead sort the data already in the data definition.

  • PDF file size too large

    Hi,
I have a report (6i and 9Ids) which contains an image (stored as a blob in the database (8i)). The size of the image in the database (and as a file) is just 750k. The image is sized to fit on to the A4 report page. If I set the desformat of this report to PDF the resulting PDF output file is 10mb in size. I need to make this report available over the web so this is too large. Has anyone got any ideas as to reducing the output file size?
I have tried the pdfcomp report parameter with no joy.
    Cheers
    Andy

    Hi Andy,
The image you are using might be a JPEG image. In 6i and 9i, while generating the PDF file, Oracle Reports always converts the image to GIF and embed it. This image type conversion increases the file size of the outputimage and hence PDF file size increases. This is fixed in Oracle Reports 10g.
In Oracle Reports 10g, you can select the outputimageformat based on your need, using either:
    1. commandline: OUTPUTIMAGEFORMAT
    (or)
    2. environment variable: REPORTS_OUTPUTIMAGEFORMAT
If your image in the database is a JPEG image, set the outputimageformat to JPEG. Hence, there will not be any image type conversion and the PDF file will be very small.
Please refer to the Publishing Reports manual to know more about the usage of these commandline/environment variable.

When running an xml publisher report the xml output leads to 9 mb and the excel output file leads to 20 mb. The records contained in excel file is 4000 records. When taking the excel records and copy to new excel file the excel file size is 3.5 mb only. Why does the oracle software generates 20mb file?
Does any one knows the answer please advice?

    Hello,
This issue is because the Excel output from BI Publisher is MHTML (XML Publisher generates XHTML) not binary .xls.
MHTML and XHTML are more verbose formats than binary .xls.
It will be large because the current Excel output is just an HTML and not compressed like PDF. Please use the workaround (save it as .xls file).  This is a known limitation of RTF layout templates.
BI Publisher Enterprise has a new feature True Excel Templates. The layouts generate binary Excel output.
Excel Output File Size Generated By BI Publisher is Very Large (Doc ID 760437.1)

  • PDF File Size Problem

    Hi,
I am using Adobe Acrobat Elements 7.0 in my computer to convert files like .txt and .doc to .pdf files. But currently I'm facing a problem with the converted .pdf file size. For example, my .doc file is 5MB and after I convert to a .pdf file, it becomes 10MB. The file size basically multiplies itself by 2.
I've tried converting .txt and .doc files and it gives me the same problem. I've tried reinstalling, tried all kinds of settings, and recreating user profile but it doesn't help. Can anyone help me? Thank you very much.

Sorry. The problem is caused when I want to password protect a .pdf using elements. So I used Adobe Reader to open the .pdf file then I'll print using Adobe Printer so that I can password protect it and output file size is actually 10 times the normal .pdf file.
    Please help!!
