Output is not as good as the preview

This post is tied to the others, although I know from experience that older posts don't get answered especially if there are already replies....So this is a new one.
First, to clarify things, I already encoded my project (64 min 34 sec) in Compressor under custom settings and with the following quality settings:
Two pass VBR Best
Avg. Bit Rate: 7.0
Max Bit Rate: 8.3
Motion Estimation: Best
I then imported the assets into DVD SP and built and formated in separate steps. The preview of the film in DVD SP is fine...good even...but when I burn the dvd it looks and sounds like a copy of a copy. Picture is not as crisp, titles ( cooperplate bold, size 12 white font on black) is completely blurred and not legible, and the audio sounds distant and a little muffled at parts.
So the problem must be within DVD SP during the burning process since everything seems fine in the preview.
What should I do to get a better version of the dvd?

In the other thread, it is the same thread and subject, no need to start a new thread, sometimes it takes a little bit of time to get around to replying

  • Why is playback video quality not as good as the source?

Hi.  I'm not new to PrE but am new to the forum.
I've been using PrE 2 for about 7 years.  I got a newer computer running Windows 7 and basically was forced to upgrade to PrE 12 because PrE 2 didn't run very well on the newer machine. Once I installed PrE 12, I was eager to jump into my first project on this machine.
I expected that with a newer machine and the latest software, I would get outstanding results--hopefully much better than what I always got with PrE 2 on the old machine.  With PrE 2, it was not uncommon that the imported video seemed lossy on playback or for whatever other reason seemed not as good as the source video.
Unfortunately, the results on the new/new were no better than the old/old.  So I switched to my wife's (even newer) machine running Windows 8 and got the same results.  Then I thought that perhaps the output to DVD would be better than what I saw in the PrE editor.  No dice.
The video quality of the source isn't the greatest (see below), but I expected that the PrE 12 would be no worse.
    What went wrong?
Here's what i'm working with on the current project:
    Machine 1:
    HP EliteBook 8560w
Intel Core i7-2640M 2.8 GHz CPU
    Window 7 Enterprise SP1
    2 GB RAM
    360 GB available HD space
    Machine 2:
    Dell Inspiron 3521
Intel Pentium 2117U 1.8 GHz CPU
    Windows 8 Touchscreen
    4 GB RAM
    400+ GB available HD space
    Video Source:
    iPhone 4 video (MOV format)
Thanks for ANY help you can give me.
BTW, I noticed that Steve Grisetti is one of the frequent commenters on this forum.  In case you're reading this, Steve, I want to thank you and Chuck E. for your PrE books.  I purchased one several years ago and found it extremely helpful.  And surprisingly, I found that with PrE 12 I could still use the book that I purchased before because most of it was still relevant to the new software.  Still a great purchase!!

Please excuse if I mention things you may already be aware of, but I did not want to take anything for granted.
The installed RAM on Machine 1 is too low for HD work, and I wonder about the processor on Machine 2 even though it has more installed RAM than that on Machine 1. For now, I will bypass the usual drills and get to the source media and project settings.
    1. From what I can put together, your source media from iPhone 4 are 720p up to 30 frames per second. That usually translates into a variable frame rate which can be problematic for Premiere Elements. The variable can lead to audio out of sync, but not necessarily. If all else fails, then it is onto HandBrake or the like to change the variable into a constant frame rate.
    2. One of the features of version 11 and 12 is the program taking over the setting of the project setting based on the properties of the first video drag to the Timeline. Some times it does it OK, sometimes not. When not, then you set the project preset manually yourself based on what you know to be the properties of your source media. Please refer to the following which includes how to set the project preset manually.
    http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/04/pe11-accuracy-of-automatic-project.html
Based on what I have read about the properties of the iPhone 4 video, I would suggest the project preset (assuming a NTSC set up)
    NTSC
    AVCHD
    AVCHD-LITE 720p30
One of the important things to remember is that Premiere Elements 11 and 12 have as their default project preset
    NTSC
    AVCHD
    Full HD1080i30
and not the NTSC DV Standard of versions earlier than 11.
When 11 and 12 do not get the automatic project preset correct, they do not give you the closest fit, rather they give you their
default NTSC AVCHD Full HD1080i30 which is not going to be appropriate for 720p video.
Classically it is written if you have the correct project preset you should have no colored line over the content when you bring the video to
the Timeline manually set. But, just the variable frame rate can trigger the unrendered indicator (orange instead of red in versions 11 and 12).
So, rendering the Timeline would be indicated to get the best possible preview under these circumstances.
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on either of your computers?
    More later.

  • Why are animated gifs not displaying animations in the preview?

Why are animated gifs not displaying animations in the preview?
My coworkers and I are not seeing a animation in the preview pane in Adobe Bridge CS6 even when clicking the play button in the preview window. However, we do see a graphic of the first frame and one person sees 1 frame when clicking play and one other frame and then the animation stops, however, that is not the complete animation.
    I'm using Windows 7 32 bit
My coworkers are using a mac.
One coworker has apple OS Mountain Lion with a Intel Quad-Core Xeon – 64 bit system.
Is this fixable or in the works as a patch? Otherwise we have to open these docs in a browser in order to view them properly.

I've just come to the realization that some animated gifs do play fine and others do not. A coworker of mine suggests that if it's an animation made via Adobe Photoshop, it'll work in bridge but will not if it's made using something else.

  • After creating a new slideshow I export it with the  setting HD 1080p it is then saved as a .mov i then create a dvd in idvd and the quality is not  as good as the original photo's when viewed on the monitor or a TV, am i doing something wrong?

DVD's are only 640 x 480 (interlaced), so yes, the quality is not nearly as good.  You should probably create your .mov in DV format to best match the DVD format

  • ARQ: Role Import does not show roles in the preview

    Dear All,
Recently I upgraded our system to SP#14. Now when I try to import roles from NWBC->AM->Role Mass Maintenance->Role Import, it does not show roles in preview. Also, it does not import the roles specified. (either a range or full name of the role). It does not even give any error message.
I implemented SAP note#1897975 Role import does not show roles in the preview.
Still facing the same problem. Has any one faced this problem? Please suggest.
    Regards,
    Faisal

    HI Faisal,
This note(1897975) you have to implement in Plug-in System, try to check the same once and let me know if it resolves our issue.

hi every i just bought an ipad 2 . en the cams resolution it's not very good. is the the max grafh. or do i need to do something to have cams hd???

Both cameras on the iPad are low resolution, something like 1 meg each (the back camera is capable of 720P HD video). But the cameras are mainly aimed at FaceTime / Skype type video calls, and unless you have very good light you are unlikely to get good stills photos or videos from the iPad - you are better off using a compact camera or even your phone.

  • What good are the preview JPEGs? (newbie question)

    Dear Folks,
I'm new to converting raws to DNGs, and I can't seem to find any use for the preview JPEGs that DNG converter can embed in the file.
Mac OSX (10.4.11) doesn't display them in Finder windows (Icon view mode). Get Info windows can show me a small preview whether or not I embed a JPEG. Mac OSX's Preview program can't display DNG files whether or not JPEGs are embedded in them. I don't see any difference in the functionality of Bridge and Photoshop whether they're there or not.
That pretty well describes my entire photo workflow, so if previews really are irrelevant to it, seems to me I might as well leave them out and save a little processing time and disk space.
Am I missing something obvious? (probably)
    Thanks!
    Ctein

    Dear David (and Ramon),
Nope, no such implication whatsoever. I entirely understand the theoretical benefit. I've just been trying to find out if they'll benefit me.
BUT... here's an unexpected curiosity. I just ported one of my freshly-baked DNG file to a friend's brand new Mac, so it's running the latest versions of everything and it ought to be pretty much a stock configuration.
It can't read my DNG preview JPEG, either! When I drag the DNG file into the Preview app, it shows me a question mark, not a preview! I just double-checked, and I am generating the DNGs using the default settings in Adobe DNG Converter (medium JPEG, lossless compression, non-linear, no embedded RAW, etc.)
So, what's going on?! Ramon confirms that DNG previews should be viewable under Mac OSX. Either I'm doing something wrong (entirely likely) or there's something broken in A-DNG-C.
The DNG files I'm generating look perfectly fine in Adobe Bridge/ACR/Photoshop, by the way. It's something hinky with the JPEGs.
Anybody got a clue? I'm fresh out!

  • Arabic characters not displayed properly in the preview mode

    Hi,
I am preparing a tool in arabic and all arabic characters seem to be displayed correctly in the design mode, but become illegible in the preview mode or when exported in flash (swf). Help much appreciated.
    Gregor

    Hi Gregor
I think you're out of luck. There is no Arabic language pack for Xcelsius.
When you're in design mode, you're using the Windows OS features, but when you try to preview or export then Xcelsius begins the process of converting the xlf to a swf. And since there is no lang pack it doesn't know what to do with the Arabic characters.

  • Outputs can not be modified from the Interrupt VI !!

    Hi,
I was trying to use the timer1 interrupt to see how does it works. I activated the timer1 interrupt from interrupt manager screen and enabled the interrupt including the glibal interrupt enable. then i added a new VI to the project to use it as the interrupt service routine. i addeda global variable and i can modify the global variable from my interrupt VI. so far everything works good. but as soon as i add some simple code to modify the output bits of the MCB2300 (LED0 to LED7) it gives me some error. it builds the project, I can download it to the board but after running it stops the processor and gives some error. If I copy and past the same code from my interrupt VI to the main VI it works without any problem.
any idea why it reacts like this?
why I can not modify any outputs from my interrupt VI?
    Besrt regards

You should be able to just check a box named "Use thread" on the interrupt manager page.  Note that this option does add latency.
Here is the doc on the interrupt manager page:

  • Need report output same as its show in the previewer in the (.txt and .xls) format

I need an output file(in text and excel format) generated from the report builder exactly in same format as it shows in the Report previewer.
it should include all the labels as well as the data.
    Thanx in advance

    Dharmendra

    Hi Dharam
You can create text file output as seen on Live Previewer by generating to Text (File->Generate to File->Text). Ensure that you run Builder with the following command line parameter:
    MODE=CHARACTER
If the Builder mode is not character (BITMAP), it will generate PostScript file if you do a File->Generate to File->Text.
You can create Excel format output from Reports with Delimited output (File->Generate to File->Delimited). In the ensuing dialog box, choose comma (,) as the delimiter to obtain a CSV file. Export this file in Excel.
